actually drawing from this particular phrase here where it says the time when kings go forth to battle the time when kings go forth to battle now what's interesting about that phrase is it's trying to give us a little bit of a clue as to the fact that the entire calendar year wasn't necessarily an entire battle season so there's seasons for war and there's seasons not for war and when david is supposed to be going out to war notice he ends up tearing ends up staying back at home and boy what a mess this chapter is this chapter is just a giant mess we see david gets involved in all kinds of sin that sin leads to worse sin then there's even friendly fire as a result of david not going forth to battle now this is just kind of a a secular thing but if you kind of study history and i think you can kind of see this same thing in the bible too but in secular history as you kind of study throughout history when people go out to battle especially in this time or in previous times it would be during the spring or summer why because a lot of these places during the winter it'd be impossible to go through the snow or the sleet or all the difficulties of of battle and war in fact if you actually know anything about world war ii adolf hitler after pretty much dominating uk they took hitler initially took over france and then he went and dominated uk and instead of finishing the job he ended up going and taking on russia at the same time now he actually had taken over a lot of russia and i'm of course ignoring some of the other battle he invaded poland and he took all that that was just so quick that i just didn't even mention it but he like basically just took over almost the entire european continent just like that very quickly but he went and actually took over portions of ukraine and he's going towards into russia but after he won that battle he kind of had this like really high prideful attitude where he didn't want people to ever retreat for any reason so the soldiers just had to be in the front of the front lines well the russians took advantage of that and so the germans what they did is after they had conquered you know large sections of russia they asked and they said hey why don't we just go ahead and retreat you know 75 miles or 90 miles off of the borderline that we've conquered so that russia can't just drill us with artillery shells but it's like no there's no retreat so basically just the the german soldiers had to stay right on the front lines and what russia did during the winter is they just sat there and just shot cannon just artillery at the german soldiers for just like the whole winter and of course because it's winter in russia you know we're talking about feet of snow we're not just talking about inches we're talking about feet of snow and blizzards and just just you can't travel in this you can't drive tanks around you can't do anything well the german soldiers also didn't have winter outfits with them so in fact a large portion of the army just died just due to having not proper uniforms just being on the front lines you know maybe that was his god not allowing hitler to literally take over the world because if he had been a little bit smarter and and and been more tactful in his military prowess he probably could have not wasted like a million soldiers during that winter but often military conquests and soldiers they have to winter you know even the apostle paul if you look in the book of acts which is way further in the future than we're talking about now but even at that time whenever they were traveling to rome they were going to have their ship winter somewhere why because the the ship can't travel during every single month of the year so when we get this context it's basically saying hey the battle itself war itself isn't going to be january 1st to december 31st there's going to be a season during the year which is what the time when kings go forth to battle okay so that's just kind when do they go out to battle in the bible summer and you know what i was thinking it's like every year now there's a really specific time when there's a battle raging it's called june yeah and you know what it's not for kings to go ahead and back down and tarry by the stuff no no they're supposed to go forth into battle in june they're supposed to go out and they're supposed to war okay but we have a lot of people that are just not willing to battle they're tired of it or they're sick of it you know what the bible tells us that we are supposed to fight i want to prove this go to first timothy chat number six go to first timothy chapter six i want to look at a lot of places in the new testament now of course we're reading some old testament in the old testament when they went to war it was literal physical war they were physically and literally killing people okay real battles real weapons where they're slaying men but in the new testament that has changed god god no longer wants us to go forth and do these physical exploits where we're calling the arms or we're going out and doing a physical fight the bible says that we were a spiritual fight and a spiritual battle look what says in first timothy chapter 6 verse 12 fight the good fight of faith so notice there is a good fight but that good fight is of faith it's not a physical battle it's not a call to arms as much as we may even desire that you know sometimes i'll be honest with you i'm kind of like you know what sometimes i just want to get the physical sword out okay but we understand that we need to get the spiritual sword out okay go if you would to second timothy chapter two now i'm not we don't use this to just dispute or or discount the idea of personal self-preservation or self-defense i am all for when i am going to defend me or my family from an immediate threat i don't fight a spiritual battle i fight a physical battle okay and you know what that's why i carry a gun and that's why i believe you should carry a gun and i believe that you should be willing to defend and fight for your family and you know what if someone broke through my house it will be a physical battle now i'm not saying i won't pray for jesus to help me in that moment but i'm going to use every ounce of my physical being to stop that threat and defend them and defend their honor because you know what we have a right and a privilege to do that in the state of texas and you know i believe it's biblical okay the strong man is not going to just allow all of his goods to be taken in his house you have to bind me first okay and i'm not just going to lay over and take it obviously jesus does talk about allowing people to you know slap you on the cheek or whatever take advantage of you take your coat sure but you know what they're not going to take my life and they're not going to take my wife's life or my children's lives or anything like that okay they're certainly not going to do it at church we will i will defend this church and there are other men in this church where we physically defend but what we're talking about is defense not war war is the we're being the aggressor okay now there is an aggression war that we fight that is the spiritual one so when we're being aggressive it should only be spiritual when we're being physical it's only defensive okay first or second timothy chapter two look what it says in verse three thou therefore endure hardness is a good soldier of jesus christ no man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life that he may please him who have chosen him to be a soldier here's the thing you are a soldier in god's army whether you like it or not and you know i have to i have to admit apparently women are in the military okay you know children are in the military right but we all have our roles okay we all have our place and at the end of the day we are all soldiers of jesus christ and as a soldier we are to war but let our war not be with this life with carnal matters but let it be spiritual matters look at chapter four we're still in second timothy look at chapter four verse seven the apostle paul describing his ministry how does he describe it verse seven i have fought a good fight i have fought a good fight that's what we want to do we don't want to be the ones like david just staying at home we want to be the ones that say hey i fought a good fight i battled i did something go to first corinthians chapter nine go to first corinthians nine so i'm giving you a lot of bible now because i i'm gonna preach a lot after that all right so first corinthians chapter number nine notice the bible is telling us that we need to fight okay first corinthians chapter number nine look at verse 26 there i therefore so run not as uncertainly so fight i not as one that beateth air notice the apostle paul's also using language here about fighting sometimes we have to fight even ourselves our own flesh and our own personal desires that's another battle that's constantly raging but let me tell you something there is a true battle out there go to athesians chapter number six go to athesians chapter number six and i think that you know modern christianity doesn't really seem to employ some of their children's songs but one of the most popular children's songs out there that almost i mean i learned it all the time was the lord's armor you know you're learning about god's armor and you're learning about you know putting on the helmet of salvation and you're learning about the shield and you're learning about the breastplate of righteousness i mean who who sang that song when they were a kid in sunday school okay me all right there was there was other people in there you know there was a couple hands that went to some liberal churches like me all right we we would sit there and we would sing about the helmet of salvation and we're singing about the sword and we're singing you know we've got our feet shod and and like you know you got other songs that we've sung with the kids i'm in the lord's army who knows that one all right hands all over okay good finally song we can relate to right but we sing all these songs but then it's like okay modern liberal okay andy stanley what's my marching orders then what am i shooting you said shoot the artillery what am i shooting at you said i had a sword am i we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities against powers against the rulers of the darkness of this world against spiritual wickedness in high places now notice though what it's saying it's saying we're not wrestling against flesh and blood but you know what it is saying we are wrestling against principalities we are wrestling against powers we are wrestling against what the rulers of the darkness of this world who are the rulers of the darkness of this world i wonder you know i mean i wonder what country is like one of the most dark countries and i wonder who these people are i wonder who against the spiritual wickedness and high places is i mean this is really obvious folks it's the joe bidens of this world it's the it's the george soros's of this world okay and frankly speaking it's the jews of this world it's also the false prophets of this world and we're supposed to wrestle with them we're supposed to fight them we're supposed to shoot the artillery at them we're supposed to fly over them and drop bombs on them okay all of all of the analogies we're supposed to go out there and we're supposed to be on the offense against them not just always defending ourselves okay that's what and of course it gives us all these different pieces of the armor look at what it says in verse number 70 and take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit which is the word of god now how do you do damage how do you actually slay you slay with this this is what slays this is what does damage against these people is the bible is the word of god that is how you slay and of course you know part of our battle is going out and just preaching the gospel man john 3 16 will really slice through a lot of that false doctrine won't it ephesians 2 8 and 9 is a nice just hack i mean just hacking just all kinds of false doctrine right i mean we just go out there we just act 16 30 and 31 yeah and john 3 16 and you know we're just slaying all the false doctrine off of these people so they can get saved you know and we just we that's part of it but you know what that is not the only part of our battle folks every verse in the bible can be used to slay and it can be slaying the rulers of the darkness of this world the the spiritual wickedness in high places all the the different things that are going on in this world and you know what summer is no different there is a time for us to go out into battle and to slay go to jude chapter one go to jude chapter one the bible is telling us to fight i think that there's a lot of christians and i get this comment a lot from a lot of people especially people that are close to me it's like why don't you just focus on the gospel you know they love they love that we preach the gospel they love that we do so they love that i preach john 3 16 and they love that i preach act 16 31 they love that i preach ephesians 2 8 9 they love the fact that i care about people going to heaven they they love the fact that i care about last lost souls and then they'll say but do you have to preach about leviticus chapter 20 you have to preach romans chapter one what if what if you just stop talking about of like wonder what what does this mean what is it talking about well if you and i decided to go on a mission trip to africa and we we're going out and we're knocking doors and we're kind of a little would be in real life i mean what it the goal and the here the goal of the lion roaring is to strike so much fear into its prey that it paralyzes it so then it's just easier for the lion to go and attack it or get it so the whole goal is just to paralyze it and make it scared and afraid now let's translate this to what it's trying to say it's saying the prince saying the rulers are like roaring lions what are they doing they're trying to just strike fear into the city into the people trying to just paralyze everybody trying to cripple them trying to cause them to just feel like they can't do we'll burn your city they're trying to put headlines out there where certain men will literally defend themselves from from criminals they'll shoot a criminal and then they'll have headline faces criminal charges faces life in prison for defending himself i i don't remember the city you can look at i think it's new york or something maybe chicago there was a city recently where someone came in to rob the store with a gun at gunpoint and he got in a scuffle with the owner the owner took the other guy's gun in the scuffle and shot and killed him and they put him on criminal charges for illegal possession of a gun you know what they're doing they're roaring like don't even defend yourself you know they're just trying to cause our whole country you know i mean there was somebody in austin that was a an uber driver or something and he was driving at at night and he got caught in one of these like stupid protests at night or something his car is parked a guy walks there's all these people surrounding it threatening it a guy walks up with a an ar lifts it up points it right at him and so he shoots and kills the guy that was aiming the gun at him right well now he was like facing criminal charges and he even got found guilty by some leftist lunatic judge oh what does it say her judges are evening wolves they gnaw out the bones till the morning some leftist wicked judge condemned him and i heard that greg abbott was supposedly going to pardon him but i don't even know did it it's like this is the country that we're living in just like this one whoa under that country whoa into that city whoa into that area whoa into that place you know where a baptist church their sermons are literally being evaluated by judges whether or not it's okay it's like how is that the
