So you're there in second chronicles chapter 36 and as you can see that's the last chapter in second chronicles so we're at the very end of the that the kings and Get my chart out here And so as you can see at the end here We just did Josiah last week, and then we have Jehoahaz Jehoiakim Jehoi kin and Zedekiah and then Babylon, you know, we have Babylonian captivity there now I want to kind of just recap this or kind of simplify this Okay, because this can get confusing as far as when did it get taken captive what's going on all this stuff? So we'll get into the details here in a second But Jehoahaz was the the son that they set up to be king first Okay, so the people took him to set him up to be king he only reigned for three months because Pharaoh Nico came in took him out and basically You know put in his brother Like him which he named Jehoiakim. Okay, so Jehoiakim is really the son that's gonna end up raining for 11 years Jehoiakim is gonna die after 11 years and Jehoi kin his son or Jeconiah is the one that's gonna start raining after him, but that's when the captivity is happening Okay, so when you when you want to start the the 70 year captivity, it's happening at that point or Jehoi kin or Jeconiah is taken captive After Jehoi comes rain, that's when that 70 year captivity is going on. Okay, so when you go to Daniel It'll talk about Jehoi come and all that and it'll talk about Jeconiah, you know and his captivity and all this stuff it'll kind of use Jeconiah as Your marker as far as how long are they into this captivity as far as how long is Jeconiah been in captivity? Does that make sense? Zedekiah is where you're like what's going on with this? Okay, because after you know Nebuchadnezzar came in and took Jeconiah captive and all of Judah captive he set up a king Nebuchadnezzar set up a king of Josiah's sons Zeddekiah Okay, so he sets him up and he rains for 11 years kind of like Jehoiakim, but he rebels and then Nebuchadnezzar comes back and completely annihilates Jerusalem Like destroys Jerusalem destroys the temple That's not when the captivity started before that like 11 years before that but with Zedekiah that's when everything was completely annihilated Okay so ultimately when they were taken captive it wasn't supposed to be a complete annihilation as far as like Just everything being destroyed and all that stuff that was Zedekiah really caused that okay So I hope that makes sense that really when Jehoiakim after his reign and Jeconiah is about the rain That's when the captivity starts. Okay, and And then when you get the Zedekiah they're in captivity already because Zedekiah is under the rule of the Babylonian king He's like a because you know Nebuchadnezzar is the king of kings, right? You know lowercase king of kings, but you know, obviously Jesus is the king of kings But he rules over all these different provinces. And so he was over top of Zedekiah, but Zedekiah rebelled Okay, so they're in captivity technically at that point, but that's where you can kind of get confused We should read through here and like okay saying have okay, then he came in and destroyed it like after that Okay, because there's two different things happening there first or taken captive then after 11 years They are completely decimated. Okay, but they'd already been captive for 11 years at that point Okay, so that's when you're reading through Ezekiel you're reading through Jeremiah and you're reading through these different prophets You know, you'll see it was in the such-and-such year of Jeconiah the captivity of Jeconiah That's the marker as far as how far into this 70 year period are we okay? And so I wanted to give that little caveat that preface if you will as far as what's going on here because there's a lot of stuff happening in this one chapter and So, but first we see Jehovah has so what happened with Josiah. Well Josiah Went to war with Pharaoh and eco and if you remember he shouldn't have done it and even Nico said don't come up to me. God is the one that told me to go take these people out and What are you doing fighting against me? And we know that was from God's mouth because the Bible says it was and So Josiah just went up and then he ended up getting killed by an archer so at this point where we're at in the story is that okay Josiah dies and The people take his son. Jehovah has and set him up as king. So in verse 1 there You know second chronicles 36 It says then the people of the land took Jehovah has the son of Josiah and made him king in his father's stead in Jerusalem Jehovah has was twenty and three years old when he began to rain and he rained three months in Jerusalem and the king of Egypt put him down at Jerusalem and condemned the land in all and a hundred talents of silver in A town of gold and the king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother king over over Judah and Jerusalem and Turned his name to Jehoi come and Nico took Jehovah has his brother and carried him to Egypt Okay, so go back to 2nd Kings chapter 23 2nd Kings chapter 23 really this story this one chapter story right here is broken up into basically two it two chapters in a little bit because at the end of chapter 23 24 and 25 is What's condensed into second chronicles 36? but we see the same thing with Jehovah has it gives us a little more information about Jehovah has But basically what happens he said he's rains for three months and then Nico comes in takes him out puts his brother in in as King and makes Jehovah has come back to Egypt with him. Okay, you know, I'm gonna he's gonna end up dying there So that's where he stays until he dies So in verse 31, so 2nd Kings chapter 23 verse 31 Jehovah has was twenty and three years old when he began to rain and he rained three months in Jerusalem and his mother's name Was a mutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libna and He did that which was evil on the side of the Lord according to all that his father's had done So now we see that okay Jehovah's wasn't a good king. So it's not like they took out a good king here so he was doing evil on the side of the Lord within those three months, I guess and And then verse 33 and Pharaoh Nico put him in bands at Ribla in the land of Hamath Then he might not rain in Jerusalem and put the land to tribute of an hundred towns of silver in a town of gold And Pharaoh Nico made Eliakim the son of Josiah King and in the room of Josiah his father and turned his name to Jehoi Come and took Jehovah has away and came to Egypt and died there Okay, so kind of the same thing that's going on there But basically you see the Jehovah has not much to be said about it besides he did evil inside Lord He only rains for three months, but really isn't that the way it goes. Joe has three months. Oh, you come 11 years Jehoi can three months and then Zedekiah eleven years So it's really three months eleven years three months eleven years. You want to remember how these go down? Now they're all brothers meaning Josiah's sons except for Jehoi kin Okay, or Jeconiah Jeconiah is the son of Jehoi come. Okay, and so You know, it really is the sons I named the sermon the sons of Josiah, you know It's because that's what you're dealing with both Jehoi Come and Zedekiah who are the ones that are really raining for a long period of time are both sons of Josiah okay, and Jehovah has his two, but he only rains for three months, but But the two that you're gonna remember or you're gonna hear a lot about Is Jehoi come and Zedekiah meaning that when you go to Jeremiah, it's Jehoi come and Zedekiah, right? Those are the two that Jeremiah is just Pronouncing judgment against and just preaching against you just see those names over and over and over again So really it would be exhausted for me to show you all the information about these guys Because I'd have to go through the whole book of Jeremiah. So we're not gonna do that tonight I'm condensing this into the fact of okay. Here's some highlights or Lowlights, however, you want to look at it as far as these these kings are concerned, but Jehoi come He was a like him originally. He was named Jehoi come But he rains for 11 years until the captivity, okay, so really Jehoi come if you're look at this chart I know we we put Babylonian captivity down here But really at the end of Jehoi comes rain is where the captivity started at the end of Zedekiah's when it was completely decimated okay, so but for sake of You know trying to simplicity we just wanted to show you where the Kings were at, right? So, but all I'd say is that in and second Kings chapter 23 and verse 35 We see Jehoi come coming into the picture It says in Jehoi come gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh But he taxed the land to give the money according to the commandment affair. It sounds about like our government, doesn't it? This is a side note. This isn't in my notes, but isn't that true? They're like, oh we need this new program Let's just tax the people for it Well, you know everybody's just like oh, well, I need the government to help out the government should be doing this Where do you think they're getting that money from they don't produce anything All they do is just you know, pillage the civilians and what they make so yeah, it sounds about right So I already don't like Jehoi come But he exactly the silver and the gold of the people of the land of Everyone according to his taxation to give it unto Pharaoh Nico Jehoi come was 20 and 5 years old when he began to rain and he rained 11 years in Jerusalem And his mother's name was Zebuda the daughter of Padiah of Ruma and he did that which was evil and the sight of the Lord According to all that his father's had done. So he's obviously not a good king actually none of these start off being good kings check and I kind of has a Redemption if you will but they're all evil meaning they all they're basically saying they do evil inside the Lord. Okay Going into the next chapter so second Kings chapter 24 because we're still talking about Jehoi come It says in verse 1 in his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up and Jehoi come became his servant three years Then he turned and rebelled against him and the Lord sent against him bands of the Calvary Chaldees and bands of the Syrians and bands of the Moabites and bands of the children of Ammon and sent them away Against Judah to destroy it according to the word of the Lord which he spake by his servants the prophets Surely at the commandment of the Lord came this upon Judah to remove them out of his sight for the sins of Manasseh according to all that he did and Also for the innocent blood that he shed for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood which the Lord would not pardon I know Ari hit on this when I was talking about Manasseh, but you know our country is in this same boat Meaning that we're murdering 3,000 babies a day and the Lord will not pardon that Okay, Josiah stayed the hand of judgment, but it's time And that's what he's saying here is that this is why it's going down this is why they're going into captivity is because of Manasseh and all the innocent blood that was shed and so but Going on from that go to Jeremiah chapter 22 and thing is with what we'll see is Is Kind of the order of events so when it says that in the days of Nebuchadnezzar meaning that Jehoiachim reigns for actually four years before Nebuchadnezzar Comes in or he's reigning for three or four years, and then he's he's under Babylonian rule if you will he's kind of like his servant and Then he's gonna rebel against him and by the 11th year. They're gonna be completely taken captive Okay, so this is kind of like a process of it's not like they just came in one year, and they're all gone Okay, it's the fact that he was reigning as king in Jerusalem and then It actually you know what we'll see and I don't know if I have it in here But it's just so much to talk about with these stories to really condense it all you really just have to read a lot of this stuff When Jehoiachim starts reigning who put him in power who set him up Pharaoh and Eco Nebuchadnezzar is gonna take out Pharaoh and Eco But then that means that Nebuchadnezzar is now Kind of ahead you know heading up Jehoiachim, so it's kind of like he loses Pharaoh and Eco and gains Nebuchadnezzar That's really kind of what happens with Jehoiachim, okay? and notice in Jeremiah 22 Jeremiah has a lot to talk about with Jehoiachim like I said I just want to go through some of these passages with Jehoiachim Because it'll give us some information about him, and you know what the Lord had to say about him What Jeremiah said to him and said about him? And this isn't going to be all-inclusive because there's just so much about it in Jeremiah, but Jeremiah 22 In verse 18 therefore thus saith the Lord concerning Jehoiachim the son of Josiah king of Judah They shall not lament for him saying ah my brother or ah sister They shall not lament for him saying ah Lord or ah his glory He shall be buried with the burial of an ass drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem Wow, so that's what God has to say about Jehoiachim and obviously judgment was coming upon him Go to Jeremiah 25 Jeremiah 25. It gives us a little more of a chronological order as far as when Nebuchadnezzar came into the picture when he started reigning and In other passages it talks about how Nebuchadnezzar in his first year took out Nico took out Egypt but in Jeremiah 25 verse 1 It says the word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year Jehoiachim the son of Josiah King of Judah that was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon So in his fourth year that was Nebuchadnezzar first year and if you remember how long was he servant a servant? Nebuchadnezzar for three years so I would say that would be six years in his six years when he started rebelling and Then by the 11th year You know, that's when it was completely taken captive So you kind of have this? Okay, he's under Nico's rule or you know kind of under his authority a little bit for three years under tribute You say well is he really under authority? Well, I mean if you're being taxed, are you really free not according to Jesus? You know then are the children free, you know talks about as far as giving who gives tribute but he's under tribute So that means they weren't really free from Egypt for three years then three years under Nebuchadnezzar and then he rebelled against them For the remaining years until he was taken out. Okay Go to Jeremiah 26 Jeremiah 26 just to give you an idea who Jehoiachim is he ends up killing a prophet that prophesied against him Jeremiah 26 This is a man named Urijah, okay so in Jeremiah 26 in verse 20 it says and there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the Lord Urijah the son of Shimei of Kirjeth-jearim Who prophesied against the city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah And when Jehoiachim the king and with all his mighty men and all the princes Heard his words the king sought to put him to death But when Urijah heard it he was afraid and fled and went into Egypt and Jehoiachim the king sent men into Egypt namely Elnathan the son of Akbar and certain men with him into Egypt and they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt and brought him unto Jehoiachim the king and slew him with the sword and cast his body into the graves of the common people and now this is an interesting topic right here because Urijah was preaching just what Jeremiah was preaching But he was afraid and he fled Jeremiah didn't do that notice in verse 24 nevertheless the hand of Ahicham the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah that they should not give Him into the hand of the people to put him to death Now I want to speak about truth. I was talking to brother Anthony about this and it's just go to Revelation chapter 3 Just because I think this is a good topic to talk about here This is one of those verses where you know for the longest time is a little Cryptic or I had an answer, but I never really like was just sold on it I Preached this before but I believe this verse is saying this outright actually pastor me. He is the one he called me up He's going through the revelation right now, and he's like I'm gonna try to convince you on something here And I'm like, alright, let's see what you got and he was talking about this verse and as soon as he started talking about I'm like you got it Yeah, I was like one of those things where the light bulb just clicks and all these verses are just going through your head and you're Like that's it. That's what it is. And so revelation 3 in verse 10 And you might probably know this verse from where the pre-tribbers love to take you and say well We're not gonna go through tribulation all this stuff Her Revelation 3 10 it says because thou has kept the word of my patience I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation Which I'll come upon all the world to try them that dwell upon the earth now probably preach a whole sermon on this but if you look at Nebuchadnezzar for example with a Shadrach Meshach and Abednego and If they didn't bow down to the image, it says this same hour You'll be cast into the furnace of fire and what happened to those three men did they die Not a hair their head was singed and this is obviously talking about, you know in an end times application But when you had the mark of the beast, I believe this is saying that if you keep the word of patience So you're following the Lord you're doing what you should be doing and you don't back down God will keep you from that hour of temptation I believe this is a promise to all believers that will do that And I preached this before because you look through all these passages and you're like all the men of God didn't stand down They were fine Right show me a prophet in the Bible, you know be barring the Lord Jesus Christ and you know John the Baptist But in the Old Testament all the prophets that stood up for the Word of God Show me the ones that were killed for the for doing that or that like you see Jeremiah He was put into the pit. He's put into the mire I'm sure he wasn't having a good time other prophets were given bread of affliction and water affliction but they were all brought up out of that and Your I job I believe was a good guy and you know, he was preaching the Word of God But he was afraid and ran And he end up dying Jeremiah I'm not saying he wasn't afraid. Okay, but he stood his ground and he didn't die and I think that's something to think about when it comes to this now obviously your joy comes wicked for killing this man You know for just preaching the Word of God but when it comes to you know, if we're you know, Lord willing in the end times and when when the Great Tribulation happens and you say well We're gonna be the first ones picked off, you know, because we're out there doing the work with Lord I don't believe that for a second. Actually. I believe quite the opposite. I Believe when that that you know The decree is going around that we need all bow down to this image and worship the mark of the beast So we're gonna be put to death I believe God's going to protect those that are serving him and keeping his word above everybody else So don't let don't let that be a you know, like oh we need to go and hiding we need to do this or that We know we need to keep standing firm and God will protect us and in those cases There's not even a hair of your head shall perish Sounds like Shadrach Meshach and Abednego to me and again I'm gonna preach a whole sermon on that because I told him I was stealing it from him Not stealing it, but it's a good it's a good truth and it's something that I preached before But that verse I believe is a text verse for that application as far as what that's talking about the hour of temptation You know, he said to the Peter in the garden when he was in the garden of Gethsemane said could you not watch for? our You know pray watch that you enter not into what temptation And there's so much to that again. I need to get off that because that's another sermon for another day But it's an exciting truth when he told me that I'm like you got it You know It's like one of those things where it's just like everything starts opening up and you're like there's no way that's wrong Because there's so many verses that go into that But going on from that go to Jeremiah chapter 36 Jeremiah chapter 36 And this is a famous story where Jehoi come and his minions if you will End up burning the Word of God Actually, they cut it up first and then they burn it And they're just like they just hate it so much. They don't want to hear it You know, they cut it up with a penknife and then they throw it into the hearth. That's what happens here. So For sake of you know time I'm not gonna go through the whole chapter here But starting there in verse one just to get some idea where we're at in the time frame here Says it came to pass in the fourth year Jehoi come the son of Josiah king of Judah that This word came unto Jeremiah from the Lord saying take the role of a book and right there in all the words that I have Spoken unto thee against Israel and against Judah and against all the nations from the day I spake unto thee from the days of Josiah even unto this day It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them that they may return Every man from his evil way that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin So, you know first thing I see here is that God is still merciful and wanting them to turn things around Isn't that amazing after all that stuff? He's still saying, you know, I Don't want to do this right now, you know If they'll turn it's kind of like a Josiah thing if they have a tender heart, you know He'll still have mercy here I do believe that it's gonna happen eventually, but he's still merciful and long-suffering throughout this whole period So he says write this on a roll right a roll of a book go to verse 20 And they went into the king into the court But they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elisha ma the scribe and told all the words in the ears of the king So they basically put the roll somewhere else and they just told him what the roll said, right? So the king sent Jaha Juhudah Juhudah Juhudah Juhud I have you say that to fetch the roll. So they're like go get that roll And he took it out of Elisha ma the scribes chamber and Juhudah Juhudah Read it in the ears of the king and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king Now the king sat in the winter house in the ninth month and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him And it came to pass that when Juhudah had read three or four leaves He cut it with the penknife and cast it into the fire That was on the hearth until all the roll was consumed in the fire. That was on the hearth yet They were not afraid or rent their garments Neither the king nor any of his servants that heard all these words So man talk about someone who didn't like the Bible, right? They just cut that thing up and cast it into the fire and actually if you read other places It talks about how the king did that. Basically the king was given the commandment to do that. So it wasn't just that Juhudah However, you say his name doesn't really matter. I'm sure he's in hell right now But you know you run into people like that, right? They just don't like the Bible I mean we ran into a guy like all there's contradictions in that thing, you know, and You know, no one ever tells you what they are, right? There's contradictions in there I've written by man, you know all this stuff and people just have there's certain people that just have disdain for the Word of God and You know, it does come down to the fact that I think that they just don't like what it has to say you know, why do people hate, you know what we believe because they hate what the Bible says on these issues and But Daniel chapter 1 Talks about Jehoi come and again Jehoi comes At the end of his reign and the captivity that happens after that. That's the marker as far as the captivity so We're gonna get into Zedekiah, but I mean at the same time Jehoi come the end of his reign really shows us. Okay, when does this 70 year period start and it and I'm not going into how you know all the stuff about that, but obviously it talks about the How many years did the land didn't have rest? They didn't do the Sabbath every seven years where the land would rest is how many? Years, how many Sabbath they missed is how many years so that means there was 490 years that they didn't do it And all that now Daniel chapter 1 In verse 1 it says in the third year of the reign of Jehoi come king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon into Jerusalem and besieged it and the Lord gave Jehoi come king of Judah into his hand with part of the vessels of the house of God Which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his God and brought the vessels into the treasure House of his God, so it's basically it starts off talking about when it started besieged it But that's not not when they went captive because we see later on that. It's in the 11th year of his reign Okay, that's when this happened. So he's kind of jumping forward that okay. Everything was taking in there and go back to 2nd Kings chapter 24 because we're gonna see that because Jehoi come dies and then that's when everything is taken captive stuffs taken into Babylon and all this So 2nd Kings chapter 24, and this is really where we start off this captivity of Babylon So in 2nd Kings chapter 24 in verse 6 it says so Jehoi come Slept with his fathers and Jehoi Ken his son reigned in his stead so just just so you know when we look at other places Jehoi Ken and Jeconiah are the same person. Okay, so when you're reading through Jeremiah, you're gonna see Jeconiah, Jeconiah, Jeconiah or Coniah It's just just shortened, you know instead of putting the J on there. It's just Coniah Okay So when you're looking up this guy You're gonna see him mentioned in other forms and it says in verse 7 and the king of Egypt came not again anymore Out of his land for the king of Babylon had taken From the river of Egypt unto the river Euphrates all that pertaineth to the king of Egypt So you see where he takes out Nico? Jehoi Ken was 18 years old when he began to reign and he reigned in Jerusalem three months and his mother's name was Nahashta the daughter of Elnathah Elnathan of Jerusalem now in another passage when we were reading through 2nd Chronicles it says he was 8 years old This is a great case of co-regency. Okay, so this isn't a mistake So if you read that, you know 8 years old in one place 18 year olds in another place It's just stating the fact that he was co-reigning with Jehoi come and that fits right, you know Because Jehoi come did reign for 11 years So that would fit in that time frame as far as like a 10 year Time frame there that basically his him and his son were reigning together. Okay, it's giving you extra information I do not believe this is a mistake in the Bible Yeah, so we've already covered a lot of those so-called contradictions in the Bible But in verse 9 there it says and he did that which was evil on the side of the Lord According to all that his father had done so Jehoi Ken or Jeconiah Did evil inside Lord? It says verse 10 at that time servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against Jerusalem and the city was besieged So you see that he's reigning for three months before they took them captive So it's kind of giving you that information that Jeconiah was king there Verse 11 and Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against the city and a servant. I'm sorry verse 12 and Jehoi Ken the king of Judah went out to the king of Babylon he and his mother and his servants and his Princes and his officers and the king of Babylon took him in the eighth year of his reign now this eighth year of his reign That's not talking about Jeconiah's reign. Okay, that wouldn't make any sense. He's only three years three months, right? Later on you'll see that it's consistent with this is Nebuchadnezzar's reign So in the eighth year of Nebuchadnezzar's reign, okay, and so Which makes sense because if it's in the third year of Jehoi Ken that Nebuchadnezzar started his first year in his fourth year, you know that that time frame you had eight years to To three what do you have you have 11 and that's 11th year? I know it's math. It's late But basically it all adds up as far as that world. So the eighth year. This is a Nebuchadnezzar's reign. Okay that this happened verse 13 and he carried out fence all the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king's house and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the Lord as the Lord had said and he carried away all Jerusalem and all the princes and all the mighty mighty men of valor even 10,000 captives and all the craftsmen and Smith's none remained saved the poorest sort of the people of the land and he carried away Jehoi Ken to Babylon and the king's mother and the king's wives and his officers and the mighty of the land those carried he into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon and all the men of might even 7,000 and craftsmen and Smith's and thou a thousand all that were strong and apt for war Even then the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon So this is clearly captivity right that we see here that's going on. He's taking everybody the only the poorest sort So pretty much all the mighty renowned people are taken out and brought into Babylon. Okay, so Now Jeconiah, that's not really the last time we see him mentioned, okay So, you know with with Jehoahaz he's like he went into Egypt and died. All right, he's done There's no more to his story really But Jeconiah is actually first of all, he's he's in the genealogy of Jesus. Okay, go to Matthew chapter 1 Matthew chapter 1 Matthew chapter 1 we'll see the genealogy genealogy of Jesus And So Matthew 1 verse 11 it says Joe and Josiah's begat Jeconiah's and his brethren About the time they were carried away to Babylon and after they were brought to Babylon Jeconiah's begat Zalathiel and Zalathiel begot Zerubbabel Okay, so when you if you know this genealogy sometimes it skips certain people, right So we know that Jehoiachim was actually the son of Josiah, but he's not mentioned in genealogy Just goes straight to Jeconiah's and it says and his brethren Okay So here's something I want to cover because there's so-called contradictions in the Bible right when it comes to was Zedekiah Jehoiachinaiah's brother or his uncle, okay Well go to 1st Chronicles chapter 3 1st Chronicles chapter 3 and here's where it gets even Harder to decipher because there's actually a Zedekiah. That's his brother and a Zedekiah. That's his uncle. Okay, and But it says Jeconiah's and his brethren I believe that's talking about his uncles Okay, because actually in the Bible a lot of times you'll see like Joe Jacob calls Laban his brother My brother Laban and that's his what is his mother's brother right because Laban and Rebecca were brother and sister Rebecca had Jacob and remember Jacob went and worked for Laban. Well, he says my brother Laban Well, it's his uncle right, but it's his mother's brother And so sometimes in the Bible it'll say brother or sister and sometimes they could be talking about your aunt or your uncle Okay, so and you say why are you bringing this up because in one place it says that he sets up Jehoiachinaiah's brother Zedekiah in another place. It says he sets up his father's brother Zedekiah, okay. So which one is it? It's his father's brother. Okay. It's just that in one place It's saying brother as it would use in some other places to mean like your kinsmen. That's your uncle. Okay So it's like my dad's brother is my brother if you will Or my mom's, you know sister is my sister, but we would say aunt or uncle, okay now in 1st Chronicles chapter 3 and verse 15 It says this it says the sons of Josiah were the firstborn Johanan the second Jehoiachim the third Zedekiah the fourth Shalom Okay, so we see that Jehoiachim is in there and we see a Zedekiah there then the sons of Jehoiachim Jeconiah his son Zedekiah his son Okay, so Jehoiachim had two sons here Jeconiah which we're talking about right and Zedekiah, so Zedekiah was his brother, but he also had an uncle that was Zedekiah So this is where people will be like well, you know one place it says is this Zedekiah another place It says that no, it's talking about the Zedekiah. That's his uncle Okay, so you always go with the plate the passage that can't be taken another way when it says that he took actually his other His name was Mattaniah, and he says he changed his name to Zedekiah Okay, and so And it says his father's brother. Okay, you can't really get around that that it's your father's brother You can't take that and say well, that's actually your literal brother, right? But when you say well his brother Zedekiah was made King well, there's plenty of other passages where it says, you know, my brother Laban my brother So-and-so and it's talking about an uncle. Okay, it's just like when you say father sometimes that can go up a couple tears or if you say son that can go down a couple tears or a Thousand or not a thousand but it can go a lot right the son of David, you know Jesus is the son of David, but obviously there's many generations in there till you get to that But you know when you see Jeconiah the sons of Jeconiah Zelathiel his son sound familiar because when you look at that genealogy You see Jeconiah's begat Zelathiel and Zelathiel begat Zerubbabel. So this is that same Jeconiah that's going on there Go back to second Kings chapter 25, I know this stuff isn't exactly the earth-shattering stuff, but I want to kind of just this is where there's a lot of so-called contradictions because This story of what happens here is mentioned in so many different passages, right? Jeremiah will have an account second Kings will have an account second chronicles will have account and even when you get to like Cyrus It's mentioned in second Chronicles second Kings Ezra, you know, and it's just mentioned a lot So when other people are mentioning it Sometimes there's more detail other things are being mentioned or it'll be worded in a different manner and people are always trying to pick that Apart but in second Kings chapter 25 and verse 27 I want to show you this because Jeconiah is actually brought up again and It talks about During his captivity that there's a certain point where he's brought up out of prison. He's brought up and basically exalted During the captivity. So in second Kings chapter 25 verse 27, it says in the came to pass in the 7th and 30th year of the captivity of Jehoiachim king of Judah in the 12th month on the 7th and 20th day of the month that evil Merodach king of Babylon in the year that he began to reign Did lift up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah out of prison now First of all, I want there's so much information that's mentioned right here. First of all evil Merodach was the son of Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar would have been the son of evil Merodach, right because when you're going through Daniel You just see Nebuchadnezzar Belshazzar, right? But what we see here is that How long did the king I mean the king? Nebuchadnezzar reigned up to the 37th year this captivity until evil Merodach took over and an evil Merodach Reigned up till the 70 years right or well Belshazzar You have to look at what year he was reigning and all that and I didn't look that up So but basically you can look up the timelines as far as when these kings reign But it shows us so much information just in that as far as that goes But in the seventh and thirtieth year of the captivity and I did a whole sermon on I forget what I called it, but it had to do with the tribulation and basically the timing of the rapture as far as going in that line there and if you remember you had the the ten days of Tribulation in Revelation 2 we went through that timeline as far as the Feast of the Lord with the Feast of the Trommets in the Day of Atonement and Then I use this as an example where you had 37 years 37 years into 70 gave you a certain amount of time Which matched up perfectly with that timeline as far as how much until the rapture that 1335? You know days, you know blessed to see that waited and coming to the 1305 and 30 days and how that matches up perfectly here And this is a great correlation that Jeconiah was in captivity until the 37th year Which matches up perfectly with that so it's it's it's a kind of a cool little parallel there but notice what happens when he's taken out of prison verse 28 and he spake kindly to him and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon and Changed his prison garments and he did eat bread continually before him all the days of his life And it and his allowance was a continual allowance giving him of the king a daily rate for every day all the days of his Life, I mean there's so much you can see there with the rapture and seeing the fact that you know We're given you he was changed his garments Right and how the body would be a change of garments and the fact that you know He's raised up and this throne above all the kings in Babylon how you know We can be sitting upon Thrones all these different things that would apply spiritually But Jeconiah is kind of an interesting character, right? Because you know, he obviously did evil inside Lord But he found grace in the eyes of the king of Babylon and he lifted him up So evil Merodach started reigning and he's just like all right Jeconiah You know, it's time for you to be lifted up. And so it's interesting a change of Kings, right? There's so much that you can get into as far as you had the king that was on the earth Which is the Antichrist the Lord Jesus Christ sets up his kingdom And when he sets up his kingdom, you know, he he brings everybody up with them that are obviously his but Anyway, that's an interesting thing with Jeconiah So we don't see you know, he he gets taken captive, but that's not the end of his story and so but The end it here. We have Zedekiah. So second Kings chapter 24 second Kings chapter 24 Zedekiah Jeconiah's uncle and here's where you're gonna see it plain as day that it's his uncle and I Just wanted to mention that to you that that's how I answer it. That's how I you know when it says it's his brother It does that sometimes So in second Kings chapter 24 and verse 17 It says and the king of Babylon made Mattaniah his father's brother King in his stead and changed his name to Zedekiah Zedekiah was 21 years old when he began to reign he reigned 11 years in Jerusalem and his mother's name was Hamutol the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah Now that's interesting because who else was the same had the same mother Jehovah has So Jehovah has and this Mattaniah who is Zedekiah had the same mother. Okay You say well what that makes sense because they're all of Josiah well, they always have these multiple wives. It's like every time you have these sons there's always multiple wives and it's just kind of It catches your eye when they have the same mother doesn't it? You know when they're like, oh, okay That's the same mother, you know, you actually have two kids of the same woman so Yeah, Josiah wasn't perfect, but he obviously was a good king Uh verse 19 there he says and he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord according to all that Jehoiakim had done for through the anger of the Lord it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah until He had cast them out from his presence that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon So go to second chronicles chapter 36 second chronicles chapter 36 Again when you read through Jeremiah I hope this outline or just kind of going through this will help you when you're reading through Jeremiah when you're seeing Jehoiakim And all the stuff that's being said to him And knowing where you're at in that timeline that when Jehoiakim's raining they have not gone into captivity yet when Zedekiah is raining They are in captivity, okay And What's interesting about Zedekiah? Is that the thing that Jeremiah keeps saying to him is do not flee Do not flee Just go captive willingly into into Babylon and everything will be fine And he keeps telling him that just trust in the Lord and go into Babylon and he didn't listen What did Jeconiah do? Jeconiah went out and met the king and went willingly with Nebuchadnezzar turned out all right for him, didn't it? And But Zedekiah doesn't listen obviously, but in the second chronicle chapter 36 and verse 10 it says and when the year was expired King Nebuchadnezzar sent and brought him to Babylon with the goodly vessels of the house of the Lord and made Zedekiah his brother king Over Judah and Jerusalem. So we're up to the speed here. Zedekiah's made made a king instead of Jeconiah verse 11 Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when he began to reign and he reigned 11 years in Jerusalem And he did that which was evil on the side of the Lord and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet Speaking from the mouth of the Lord. So we see that Jeremiah is obviously speaking to him trying to get him to humble himself Verse 13 and he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar who had made him swear by God But he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart from turning unto the Lord God of Israel Wherever all the chief of the priests and the people transgressed very much after the all the abominations of the heathen and polluted the house of the Lord which he had hallowed in Jerusalem and the Lord God of their fathers Sent to them by his messengers rising up at times and sending because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place But they mocked the messengers of God and despised his words and misused his prophets until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people Until there was no remedy So when he's speaking to Zedekiah if you remember this is remember the prophets that's like slapping Jeremiah saying which way you know, like and it Jeremiah is saying listen This is a this is a long-term captivity 70 years and you remember that the other prophets are like no it's only three years It's only like such and such. It's gonna be over in like two and You know, he they came he would bring in this. Uh, Uh What was it this yoke? And remember they broke the yoke And he's basically saying you're under the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar, you know deal with it Just settle down and be in captivity unto them and he's just like saying just let it happen This is the the Lord's will and they're like no they break the yoke and then God's like i'm gonna make a yoke of iron And basically all these prophets keep saying to him just stay there set up shop You know Live there abide there. You just do what you got to do to stay in this captivity And it's going to be for a while Okay, they didn't want to listen and that's when they were rebelling against king Nebuchadnezzar And this is where the judgment comes and even when that judgment's about to come or when the judgment's coming He's telling Zedekiah listen, it'll be all right. Your family will be right. You'll be all right. Just meet him out there You know don't flee from him If you flee from it you're going to die or you're all your children all your sons are going to die And he's warning them and they just would not listen Because sometimes doing the thing that God tells you to do doesn't seem like the thing that you think should happen, right? Like it'd be kind of like, you know, just stare down that bull and just run straight after it and you're like What are you talking about? I should be running the other way And just just do it. That's what God tells you to do do it. It may not make sense to you It may seem like you're going to die that way But that's the way that God says if you're going to live you just need to do it that way And I know i'm not going into all the scriptures because I could show you all those scriptures where it says that You know where he talks about all these things and all the admonitions that he gives to them Time would fail me to show you all that stuff. But really what it comes down to is he didn't listen and he fled So notice what happens to zedekiah and his children so in second king chapter 25 verse 4 Second king chapter 25 verse 4 It says and the city was broken up and all the men of war fled by night by the way of the gate between two Walls, which is by the king's garden now the calabes were against the city roundabout and the king went the way toward the plains So did he listen to jeremiah? And I know i'm not showing you these verses for sake of time because it would just take a lot of time to show you All these verses but he didn't listen to jeremiah when he said the lord says if you just stay here and just be taken captive It'll all be fine. No he fled and Go to i'm sorry in verse uh verse five there It says in the army of the calities pursued after the king and overtook him in the plains of jericho and all his armies And all his army were scattered from him So they took the king and brought him up to the king of babylon to ribla and they gave judgment upon him And they slew the sons of zedekai before his eyes and put out the eyes of zedekai and bound him with fetters of brass And carried him to babylon The last thing zedekai saw was the death of his sons That's exactly what jeremiah said would happen, but he did not listen to the word of lord. He would not hear the reproof He he mocked his messengers. It wouldn't hear what they had to say So sometimes when you're reading through the bible you say man, I don't want to do that That seems it doesn't seem it seems counterintuitive, you know, like to to go into the belly of the beast if you will And to do this or that you just need to do what god tells you to do And if god says you'll be safe, you're going to be safe If god says go into that burning fiery furnace, you'll be safe Guess what? You're going to be safe in there and you're not going to be safe outside of it if you go outside of his will So there there's a way which seems right onto a man but the end thereof are the ways of death And i'm sure if you're in that situation you say yeah, I need to get out of here I don't want to be anywhere near Nebuchadnezzar. I'm going to flee from them that makes sense You know that makes sense in your mind that that's what you should do But if god is saying listen, no you need to just go up to the king And everything will be fine But that takes faith, right that takes a lot of trust to do something like that and uh but Obviously because he rebelled because of all this the wrath of the lord was kindled against jerusalem So not only are they now still in captive captivity, but now the whole city is going to be demolished So go to second chronicles chapter 36. I would read to you the rest of second king's chapter 25 but It's pretty exhaustive meaning that it goes through all kind of more of the details of it, you know So if you want to see more of the details of what happened Uh while this was being destroyed and all this stuff get into that But second chronicles chapter 36 kind of gives you this the sum of what's going on So In verse 17 it says therefore he brought upon them the king of the caldees Who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary? And had no compassion upon young men or maiden old men or him that stooped for age He gave them all into his hand And all the vessels of the house of god great and small and the treasures of the house of the lord And the treasures of the king and of his princes all these he brought the babylon and they burnt the house of god And break down the wall of jerusalem and burnt All the palaces thereof with fire and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to babylon where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of persia To fulfill the word of the lord by the mouth of jeremiah until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths for as long as she laid desolate She kept sabbath to fulfill the three score in 10 years. So here you see the 70 years that it says that it's going to be This captivity and that's when obviously cyrus came into power and all that of persia So we see here that what happened in verse 19 they burnt the house of god and break down the wall of jerusalem And if you've read esra, what's esra about building the house of god What's nehemiah about building that wall again? Right because after 70 years cyrus made a decree And they started building the temple of god again And that temple that they built in esra's day And in nehemiah's day and the and the city being rebuilt. That's the the temple in the city that jesus walked in Jesus walked in But the city that was before that it was completely demolished Right, it was just rubble and so uh That's what's kind of going on there as far as the the timeline I hope that helps when especially when you're reading through the prophets because you can get because sometimes it'll recap It'll be like all right in jehoykim's day and we're like, I thought we were talking about zedekiah But it'll kind of go back into uh another time with Jehoykim and said this is what was said to him and then it gets back into the story of zedekiah If you just know, okay Jehoykim was before zedekiah And after jehoykim is when the captivity started And zedekiah is in the captivity. That's when it's going on, but he just would not Bow the knee if you will to babylon and his prophets were prophesying lies If you remember ezekiel ezekiel was preaching You know the same thing where these prophets were saying, you know, go flee over into egypt go do this or that And that's not what god wanted them to do. He wanted them to just stay in captivity Just live there abide there and be under the rule of babylon. That was the will of god And you know if you just understand what jeremiah is preaching a lot of false doctrine will go out the window You say what are you talking about? I I think I preached on this when we were talking about the rapture. There's people out there that don't believe there's a rapture And they'll go to ezekiel chapter 13 And if you don't know what i'm talking about don't worry about it but There's in ezekiel chapter 13. It's talking about these these people it says the prophets will sew pillows to all arm holes And it says it'll cause my people to fly, you know teach my people to fly Okay And people will say well see, you know, it's wrong to say that we're going to fly and go up into the air and into the rapture I'm, not joking. That is a doctrine out there and i've heard people say, you know There's not really a rapture because ezekiel 13 says that you know The false prophets were saying you should fly first of all You need to get an understanding that fly flee flight is talking about running away Not flying like a bird Okay, second of all the pillows were on the arm holes of the false prophets Not the people that were trying to fly they really think that we're like what we like, uh, wildly coyote And we're putting pillows on our arm holes and we're trying to flap away and fly and that's supposed to picture the rapture I know this is fringe. Okay, but i've heard people say this garbage Where it's like, oh, you know ezekiel 13 teaches there's no rapture We're not going to be caught up in the clouds. You mean like first thessalonians says we're going to be caught up in the clouds I think i'm going to take that clear scripture over top of that But you say what's your point with all that because if you understand that jeremiah is saying stay there Don't flee Then that passage makes perfect sense when all the prophets think flee He's causing them to fly so that they die Makes perfect sense, but you got to know it's kind of the structure of events and I think that's important When you're going through Uh, the prophets is like what's the structure, you know, what's the chain of events that's going on here? Jehoi come rain for 11 years after his reign Captivity started 70 years start that clock 70 years Jeconiah was in that captivity and all the captivity is based off his captivity, right? That's when the 70-year mark. So when it says in the fifth year jeconiah's Captivity guess what? You're five years into that 70 years And then you get right after jehoi come really you get zedekiah zedekiah rains for 11 years. So 11 years into the captivity That's when the house of god is burned to the ground and and the the walls burn to the you know, everything's destroyed And then you get into daniel if you want to you know as far as what's going on in babylon with all that stuff so But when you're going through jeremiah ezekiel, it's good to have that structure because it's going to help you It's going to help you understand Why is he saying these things to you? Why is he saying, you know, and some of these things are cryptic, you know Like the armholes, I don't know why they're putting the pillows on their armholes. You know what I mean? Like You know, what's they're trying to scare them like you're trying to like You know do this or that But there's some weird doctrines out there and people pull that stuff out But they have no foundation of why jeremiah is even preaching that or why ezekiel's even preaching that and so You say why you get fired up because people tell me this type of stuff and then they won't even listen to clear scripture And you're just like really ezekiel 13. That's my text passage for the rapture Not first essalonians 4 not matthew 24 not revelation Ezekiel 13 Or they'll say well, you know ezekiel 18 ezekiel 33 talk about turn from your iniquities And that soul that sent it it shall die and they'll say well that's you know Yeah, because ezekiel's where I go when I go to find clear scriptures on the gospel, right? And you know, they they always go through these cryptic passages But if you understand the context and why he's saying what he's saying Then you understand that ezekiel 18 and 33 is talking about physical salvation And talk about getting right with god and as believers and as people of god if you get right with god God's not going to destroy you And then when you're talking about these pillows you can understand, you know that he's talking about fleeing don't flee, okay So that was the side trail. That was the rabbit trail tangent if you will But I enjoyed going through this king series. Um, I hope you did too And you know this chart Hopefully after this you can name The kings of judah I understand if you don't remember all the kings of israel Frankly, they're not that important I mean obviously ahab and some of those big the big guys like Gu and all that stuff are ones that you're going to remember but some of these it's just like they're mentioned in passing But you should try to remember these kings because when you're reading through the prophets or you're reading through that It'll help you understand where you're at in the timeline, okay? And having this, you know in your bible or nearby as you're going through that could help you with that but You know just some interesting stuff. Hopefully you learned a lot. I learned a lot studying it anyway, so Let's end with the word prayer the holy father We thank you for today And thank you for the souls that were saved and lord just prayed to be with us throughout the rest of this week And I pray that you would uh be with those that aren't feeling well And uh heal those that are sick and and keep us healthy help us not to get sick And lord, uh, I just pray that you'd help us bring glory to your name throughout the week and lord We love you prayer else in jesus christ's name. Amen
