Oh Say, but I'm glad I'm glad Oh Say, but I'm glad Jesus is coming my cups overrun Say, but I'm glad All right, take your Bibles and turn to John chapter number 12 John chapter number 12 in your Bibles and we'll have brother Shane come and read that for us John chapter 12 and the Bible reads Then Jesus six days before the Passover came to Bethany where Lazarus Was which had been dead whom he raised from the dead There they made him a supper and Martha served but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard very costly and Anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment Then said one of his disciples Judas Iscariot Simon's son which should betray him Why was not this ointment sold for 300 pence and given to the poor? This he said not that he cared for the poor but because he was a thief and had the bag and bear that Bear what was put therein? Then said Jesus let her alone against the day of my burying hath she kept this for the poor always Ye have with you, but me ye have not always Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there and that they came not for Jesus sake only But that they might see Lazarus also whom he had raised from the dead But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death because that by reason of him many of the Jews Went away and believed on Jesus on the next day much people that were come to the feast When they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem took branches of palm trees and went forth to meet him and cried Hosanna blessed is the king of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord and Jesus when he had found a young ass sat there on as it is written fear not daughter of Zion behold thy King cometh sitting on an ass is cold These things understood not his disciples at the first But when Jesus was glorified then remembered they that these things were written of him and That they had done these things unto him the people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave and Raised him from the dead bear record for this cause the people also met him For that they heard that he had done this miracle the Pharisees therefore said among themselves perceive ye How you prevail this prevailed nothing behold the world is gone after him and there were certain Greeks among them That came up to worship at the feast the same came therefore to Philip Which was of Bathsabah of Galilee and desired him saying sir. We would see Jesus Philip cometh and tell Andrew and again Andrew and Philip told Jesus and Jesus answered them saying the hour is come That the Son of Man should be glorified Barely barely I say unto you except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die it abideth alone But if it die it bringeth forth much fruit He that loveth his life shall lose it and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal If any man serve me, let him follow me and where I am There shall also my servant be if any man serve me him will my father honor him Now is my soul troubled and what shall I say father saved me from this hour But for this cause came I unto this hour Father glorify the name then came there a voice from heaven saying I have both glorified it and will glorify it again The people therefore that stood by and heard it said it thundered others said an angel speak to him Jesus answered and said this voice came not because of me But for your sakes now is the judgment of this world now shall the prince of this world be cast out and I If I be lifted up from the earth will draw all men unto me this he said signifying what death he should die The people answered him we have heard out of the law that Christ abideth forever And how say thou the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this son of man? Then Jesus said unto them yet a little while is the light with you Walk while you have the light lest darkness come upon you for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not Whether he goeth while you have the light believe in the light that ye may be the children of light These things make Jesus and departed and he did hide himself from them But though he had done so many miracles before them yet They believed not on him the saying of Elias the Prophet might be fulfilled What she spake Lord who hath believed our report and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed Therefore they could not believe because that a science said again He hath blinded their eyes and harden their heart That they should not see with their eyes nor understand with their heart and be converted and I should heal them These things say a science when he saw his glory and speak of him Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him, but because of the Pharisees They did not confess him lest they should be put out of the synagogue for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God Jesus cried and said he that believeth on me believeth not on me But on him that sent me and he that seeth me seeth him that sent me I am come a light into the world he that That Whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness And if any man hear my words and believe not I judge him not for I came not to the judge the world But to save the world he that rejecteth me and received not my words hath one that judges him The word that I've spoken the same shall judge him in the last day for I have not spoken of myself But the father which sent me he gave me a commandment which I should say and what I should speak And I know that his commandment is life everlasting Whosoever I speak therefore even as the father said unto me, so I speak let us pray Dear Heavenly Father Lord just pray that you just be with our pastor and thank you to be gathered in your house this morning Pray just be with the service today and tonight Lord in Jesus name. Amen Amen Amen so you're there in John chapter 12 and I'm preaching a sermon on the subject of the Son of Man The Son of Man and Jesus called himself the Son of Man way more than he called himself the Son of God and Actually, hopefully after this sermon you'll see that it's actually I believe May even be more significant that he's the Son of Man Obviously, we know that he's God and that that's a whole sermon and itself and the fact that Jesus is God We had the Trinity the Father Son and the Holy Ghost But the fact is is that he kept referring to himself as the Son of Man over and over and over again And what does that mean? Well, look at John chapter 12 verse 32 The people wanted to know that question, too But in verse 32 it says and I if I be lifted up from the earth will draw all men unto me And this is it says in verse 33 this he said signifying what death he should die And so, you know all those that the Calvinists out there that believe that Jesus only died for those that are that are elect No, he's the Savior of all men Especially of them that believe and the Bible teaches that if he'd be lifted up, he's gonna draw all men unto him Obviously not everybody believes but he wants everybody to get saved verse 34 though. It says The people answered him We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth forever and how sayest thou the Son of Man must be lifted up Who is this Son of Man? So that's the question this morning is who is this Son of Man? And why why does Jesus call himself the Son of Man? And what does that even mean to be the Son of Man? Go to Psalm 8 Psalm 8 so Psalm 8 and verse 3 and Son of Man isn't exclusively used by Jesus actually if the private most I Didn't look up all the times the phrase Son of Man's used, but I'll say this it All the times that's used in the New Testament It may be that it's either equated or it's it may be more in Ezekiel used for Ezekiel that that God keeps saying Son of Man Son of Man and Ezekiel is referred to as the Son of Man and What I believe just just on the surface what Son of Man means is that You're a human being that you you were born from Adam the I mean Adam means man And so basically I believe when you say Son of Man is it basically saying you have? Humanity right you have you are of that human race if you will And we're in Psalm 8 and verse 3 here just to show you that that we're talking about Son of Man We're just talking about being a man right that the man Christ Jesus and what I'm gonna get into is this great mystery that God became a man That Jesus isn't just God which I use that just very lightly there being like obviously that's a big deal that he's God, but what I'm saying is that he's God and he's man and This is a big deal because this is what separates Christianity from every other religion is that God became a man and Psalm 8 in verse 3 it says when I consider Thy heavens the work of thy fingers the moon and the stars which thou hast ordained What is man that thou art mindful of him or the son of man that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels and has crowned him with glory and honor Thou made his Tim to have dominion over the works of thy hands thou hast put all things under his feet All sheep and oxen yea and the beasts of the field the fowl the air and the fish of the sea and whatsoever Passeth through the paths of the seas So this kind of goes all the way back to Genesis and the fact that when he made man he made man in his own image and then he made made them male and female created he them and the fact that he made man to have dominion over all the animals of the earth and Goes all the way back to Genesis, but when we're talking about the Son of Man We're just basically saying Obviously Adam was a man, but everybody that's born of Man like the the children of men if you will They're all human beings well, and he is made of one blood all nations, so we're all of that same bloodline of Adam and Eve Eve is the mother of all living and But why is this significant that Jesus is saying he's the Son of Man Right he says it's over and over and over again the Son of Man will be lifted up the Son of Man must you know As Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly shows how the Son of Man be three days and three nights in The heart of the earth the Son of Man is gonna be lifted up the Son of Man You know and and I'm gonna be getting further into that But go to Hebrews chapter 2 Hebrew chapter 2 is actually going to quote Psalm 8 And I want you to see that obviously we're talking about The fact that this passage in Psalm 8 would be referring to us right this would be referring to that Everything was created For us to have dominion over it listen. We're not animals. We're not beasts I know that the world wants to teach you that when it comes to evolution And all that that we all came from monkeys or something like that But it's just not the truth the Bible says that we're created in the image of God And that the woman is the glory of the man and that we have you know he breathed into Adam the breath of life And he became a living soul You know the spirit of man returns unto God who gave it the spirit of the beast goes down to the earth there is a difference between Man and when I say man I mean mankind like man woman child right that there's a difference between that than the animals and So in Psalm 8 it's kind of hitting on that is that hey we have dominion over all these animals You know we have a conscience essentially and Hebrews chapter 2 and verse 5 Notice what it says here for unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come whereof we speak But one in a certain place testified saying what is man that thou art mindful of him or the son of man that thou visiteth him Thou made us to him a little lower than the angels thou crowned us to him with glory and honor and didst set him over the works of thy hands, so that's what we You know we're reading in Psalm 8 there keep reading verse 8 It says thou has put all things in subjection under his feet for in that he put all things in subjection under him He left nothing that is not put under him, but now we see not yet all things put under him notice in verse 9 But we see Jesus who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death Crowned with glory and honor that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man So when it's stating in here in Psalm 8 about mankind Jesus was made a little lower than the angels Jesus who's The Word of God from the very beginning who created everything he lowered himself it says that he who was rich became poor and Keep reading here because it's gonna. It's gonna clarify Well one it tells you why he did it right Why was he made a little lower than the angels for the sufferings of death right for the suffering of death? Crown with glory honor that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man the reason that he became a man Is so that he could die for us so that he could take our place And that's what it's gonna explain here in verse 10 For it became him for whom are all things and by whom are all things so we're talking about Jesus Christ who created everything in the beginning was the word and word was with God the word was God all things were created by him and for him and Without him was not anything made that was made But then it goes on to say here in verse where did I leave off their verse verse 11 there? For for both he that sanctified and they who are sanctified are all of one For which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren saying I will declare thy name unto my brethren in the midst of the Church while I sing praise unto thee and again I will put my trust in him and again behold all the children which God had given me Notice the verse 14 for as much then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood He also himself likewise took part of the same that through death. He might destroy him that had the power of death That is the devil and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject of bondage So notice that he's talking about the children right what the sons of men right the children of men He had to become one of us so that what so that he could destroy death so that he could take our place right so he could taste death for every man and Deliver us from that bondage notice in verse 16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels, but he took on him on him the seed of Abraham So he's saying he didn't he wasn't made in the likeness of angels Because unto which the angel said he at any time thou art my son this day have begotten me the idea here is that he took on the seed of Abraham and particularly we'll see the seed of David and Keep reading there in verse 17 wherefore and all things that behooved him to be made like unto his brethren that He might be a merciful and faithful high priest and thanks pertaining to God to make Reconciliation for the sins of the people for in that he himself had suffered being tempted He is able also to succor them that are tempted because he was tempted in all points like as we are yet without sin We have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities We have a high priest that is both God and man right Melchizedek and Before the Old Testament Melchizedek was the son of God Melchizedek was here on the earth and he was in a physical body But he didn't have flesh and blood. He had neither beginning of days nor end of life neither father nor mother and Then you had the Levitical priesthood which was just man Right and they had infirmities they all died and they didn't continue because of reason of death but Jesus because he continued with ever have an unchangeable priesthood and that priesthood is You know there were after the order of Melchizedek after an endless life and so not to get it That's a whole nother term for another day dealing with Melchizedek, but the idea here is that this separates What what Christianity teaches what the Bible teaches from every other religion in the world Now obviously salvation separates You know as far as that salvation is by grace through faith not of works That it's eternal life and that you can never lose your salvation that it's it's once saved always saved It's just by faith in Jesus Christ that you're saved right that separates You know the Bible from everything in the in the world right because every other religion teaches Well, I need to be a good person. I need to live a good life and whatever religion you're in there's either like the eightfold path of Hinduism or something like that or Buddhism I think and then then there's like the the five pillars of the faith of like Islam and then there's basically every religion you think of like the Church of Christ they have like the seven eight ten steps Salvation and one of those is you need to believe but then you got to repent of your sins You got to get baptized you got to do all this other stuff. You got to speak in tongues or something What the Bible teaches separates from every religion that's out there Okay The truth is going to stand out and one thing that stands out about Christianity is The fact that God became a man that God became one of us Listen Judaism does not believe that Judaism believes They believe there's a God and they would say there's one God they don't believe in the Trinity They believe there's one God one person, but then they'll say that Christ is just a man He's not God. He's just a man. He's gonna be some political leader that's gonna bring. Peace sound familiar I think I read about that in Revelation It's called the Antichrist How about Islam Islam same thing they have their imam idea or whatever they call them That's going to come and he's just gonna be a man, but he's gonna be a political leader That's gonna bring peace and world peace to everybody But he's also not God and the thing that that Muslims will argue with you is that They'll say we don't not believe that God is a man that God can be that God will be a man Or is a man or anything like that and they reject the fact that Jesus Christ Well, they'll just say that Jesus was a man But they'll reject that he's God and they won't put those two together like the Bible actually teaches So the fact of the matter is is that when Jesus says he's the son of man That is a significant thing that he's saying every single time. He says it and you may say well, man I wish you would just say he's the son of God every single time, right? But you know what? I believe is that what's what's more significant than all that is the fact that God became a man and that he's declaring that Almost every time he's talking to somebody's like the son of man is the one that's gonna be raised from the dead The son of man is the ones gonna be seated at the right hand of the father That's a big deal right you have the son of man you have the man Christ Jesus There's one God and one mediator between God and men the man Christ Jesus And he's seated at the right hand of the father forever and ever and obviously the man Christ Jesus is also God But Don't lose the fact that he it that he became flesh Let's look at some verses on that first Timothy chapter 3 probably one of the More famous verses on this first Timothy chapter 3 and verse 16. I Remember reading through the Bible for the first time when I got saved and You ever read you read through it you're like man, I wish it would have said this You know, I wish it didn't say this over here. That's hard to explain Right and you'll see him call himself the son of man over and over Like why does he just say the Son of God the Son of God the Son of God the Son of God, right? But here's think the Bible's right God's right Jesus was right to say that and it's like it's later on that you realize the significance as far as why It was so important that he was saying that And obviously he didn't deny that he was the Son of God. He didn't deny that he was God But at the same time the point that's getting across here is that he became a man Because Every religion chokes on that right they strain at that they strain at an app and they swallow a camel right and But this is significant because why did he become a man what did we see the what was the reason for why he became a man? So that he could taste death for every man. See every other religion had they have no advocate They have no propitiation for their sins Ask Islam who took takes away their sins or who paid for their sins ask Buddhism or ask you know any other religion that's out there who paid for your sins And if they don't believe that Jesus is God, you know, like you think of you think of Mormonism or you think of Jehovah Witnesses So a man took away your sins Like it was just a man Was he how is he perfect then if there's only one that's good and that is God then The only way that this can work is that God himself became one of us. He was sinless and He took he was the sinless sacrifice that took away our sins Hereby perceived we the love of God because he laid down his life for us Now in 1st Timothy chapter 3 and verse 16 it says and without controversy Great is the mystery of godliness God was manifest in the flesh Justified in the spirit scene of angels preached unto the Gentiles believed on in the world received up in the glory We're talking about Jesus, right? We're talking about the fact that Jesus was you know, he was God was manifest in the flesh so when Jesus here in the flesh that was God in the flesh and Listen great is the mystery of godliness Understanding the Trinity trying to comprehend the Trinity I guess is the way I would I would look at this Not easy, it's a mystery Because there's nothing to compare it to my daughter Clara. She she'll often ask me we'll talk about the Trinity We'll talk about the fact that God is three persons one God and she's just like, how does that work? You know, it's hard to explain. It's hard to it's hard to pin down You you can have ways to explain be like the universe is made of time space and matter Time doesn't space space doesn't matter But if you didn't have one of those it wouldn't be the universe and you can use those things But ultimately they all come short of really comparing to God because there's none like him and So great is the mystery of godliness, but here's the mystery specifically that's talked about here. Is that God was manifest in the flesh? How could how could God become a man? How could God be a hundred percent God hundred percent man right at the same time? How can that happen? It's a great mystery, but here's the thing We take it by faith. I Haven't seen God personally to notice it to be able to explain to you and I don't even know if I if I were to Go up in the heaven right now and see God that I could come back and even explain it to you It'd be like explaining a new color Right. Imagine that there's new prime color out there Explain it, right Because colors you either like purple for example be like well if you mix blue and red together you get purple And you could try to explain it that way But imagine explaining a new sound a new color that you did nothing to compare it to Explain a being with nothing to compare it to Explain God who's also a hundred percent man Explain that right. It's a mystery. That doesn't mean it's not true or real. Okay, so this is a great mystery Okay, and this is why people by and large that are in other religions They just don't comprehend it and what a lot of religions do is instead of instead of just taking what the Bible says by faith They simplify God and say well, we believe that there's one God Therefore the Trinity doesn't exist or while we believe that God is the spirit and we believe that God, you know Obviously from everlasting everlasting. So how could he be a man? Right, and it's just like well, you don't understand it. Therefore. It doesn't exist Do you understand gravity Now I could there's theories on what how gravity works has to do with you know Mass and bending space and all of that right and you could you can look at you know Special relativity and you can look at all these different theories that are out there, but in the end It's a theory And the thing is is that You said I I'll guarantee this if you're on top of this building you're gonna believe that gravity exists whether you understand it Or not, right? You're like, I don't want to jump off this because I know that if I do it's gonna hurt So when it comes to the mystery of godliness, listen, the Bible is our final authority And there may be things that we can't comprehend completely, but we take it by faith And listen, the Bible's not it's not and I'm not saying this is illogical Is that it's not logical it's just the fact that there's certain things that we're just like I can't grasp I can't Compare it to anything right and John 1 14 very similar Concept here as far as in the beginning was the word and word was with God and word was God but in John 1 14 It says and the word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory the glory is of the only begotten Of the Father full of grace and truth So that word which was with God and was God as well That was in the beginning that all things were made by him was made flesh and We had to take that by faith and listen This is the big thing that that as far as the doctrine that we believe is that we have to believe that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh And if you don't believe that you know those that are preaching that Jesus Christ isn't come in the flesh They're a deceiver and an Antichrist the Bible says according to 2nd John and 1st John or 1st John and 2nd John 2 OCD anyway Go to Galatians chapter 4 Galatians chapter 4 Galatians chapter 4 The Bible says that the word was made flesh and And Galatians chapter 4 verse 4 says but when the fullness of the time was come God sent forth his his son made of a woman Made under the law to redeem them that were under the law that we might might receive the adoption of sons And again the whole reason of why he came in the flesh was to die for us You know the the idea is that I Am the verse that I'm trying to think of is alluding me at the moment but Christ came into the world to save sinners or Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners And I'm I know it's the first Timothy, but anyway the idea is that the reason he came into this world is to save sinners Even when he was talking to Pilate he's like for this hour came I into the world when he's about to go to the cross So The whole reason why he's coming in the reason is being made flesh is so that he'll save us from our our sins and the way that he does that is by being becoming one of us to take our place and Go to a Philippians chapter 2 and while you're going to Philippians chapter 2. I'm going to read Romans 8 3 says Says for what the law could not do and that it was weak through the flesh God's sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin condemned sin in the flesh Now the Bible says that in him is no sin It says who did no sin neither was guile found in his mouth And it says for you have made him to be sin who knew no sin That we might be made the righteousness of God in him So we know that he was made in the likeness of sinful flesh mean he was tempted in all points like as we are Yet without sin though So he went through everything we went through he he but he was sinless through all of it and The reason that he did it again is to condemn sin in the flesh the fact that who his own self bear our sins in his own body on the tree and The idea is that he had to do it when Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane If you remember he says to the Father If it be possible let this cup pass from me and he's basically he states something to the effect of I know all things are possible with the And if it's possible Basically if there's any other way For this to be accomplished then let this cup pass, but we know the answer to that there wasn't another way It had to be that way it had to be that Jesus Became one of us to die for us and that he would take bear the sins of the world He is the propitiation for our sins and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world The Bible says and Philippians chapter 2 and verse 5 it says let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus Who being in the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal with God? So Jesus didn't think it robbery equal with God now listen for us to be equal with God that would be robbery because we're not We're adopted sons. He's the only begotten son, okay, but He he's not he's not it's not robbery for him to be equal with God notice in verse 7 But made himself with no reputation it took upon him the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men It was the Bible says in that the other place in Romans 8 It says he sent his son in the likeness of sinful flesh Why because God was manifest in the flesh the word was made flesh? Keep reading there. It says and being found in fashion as a man He humbled himself and became obedient unto death even the death of the cross Wherefore God also hath highly exult exalted him and given him a name Which is above every name that if the name of Jesus every knee should bow of things in heaven and things in earth and things Under the earth and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father So in the same passage where it's saying he became a man to die for us He's also everybody's gonna confess that he's Lord So he's the the man Christ Jesus, but he's also the Lord that's from heaven He is God as well Go to us Psalm 132 Psalm 132 Let me show you another place in the Old Testament Prophesying about the fact that that God was going to become a man You There's actually a pat in the last passage I show you is going to be Kind of what where the sermon came from as far as like why you know well besides the fact that obviously it's good Good to teach on this doctrine but as far as correlating something from the Old Testament a New Testament and Kind of seeing the bigger significance as far as why it was such a big deal that he said what he said Okay, because sometimes you'll see he'll say something and everybody's losing their minds right and you're just like okay You know, but why why is it such that big of a deal right of what he's saying? Until you tell you kind of correlate some things you're like, whoa They knew what he was saying and they knew what that that what that meant. Okay, but in Psalm 132 in verse 11 here And notice what it says the Lord has sworn in truth unto David He will not turn from it of the fruit of thy body. Will I set upon thy throne? So who's saying they're gonna set upon his throne? the Lord By the way, that's all caps words. I mean you're dealing with Jehovah, right? You're dealing with the Lord I mean, there's no doubt that we're talking about God here And he's saying of the fruit of thy body. Who's the die referring to David? Right the fruit of thy body well, I Set upon my throne So in Psalm 132, we see that God is saying I'm going to of the fruit of your body Sit on your throne So personally go to Acts chapter 2 this is quoted in Acts chapter 2 Just so you know that this is talking about Jesus Acts Chapter 2 so this is more of a Bible study. I know Obviously Sunday morning. Sometimes you're ready for a rip-roaring sermon where I'm hanging from the chandelier that we don't have and Or you know some kind of top but this is definitely more of a Bible study type sermon but I do believe it's something that When you're reading through and you see him referring to himself as the son of man over and over again Hopefully after the sermon you're like, yeah He's he's deaf. He's the son of man and that's a significant thing to be stating because that's what separates Christianity from every religion in the world. And by the way, it's not like the Old Testament didn't teach on this right So people want to say well the Jews, you know, they just it wasn't taught until then I'm showing you Old Testament where it says that God's gonna sit upon David's throne of the fruit of his body I'm showing you places in the Old Testament where it's stating that he was gonna become a man. How about Genesis 3? Where it says her seed and thy seed, right? I'll put enmity between the woman thy the woman or the in the woman talking about the serpent and the woman in between Thy seed and her seed it shall bruise thy head and thou shalt bruise his heel from the fall of man It stated that that Christ was going to come through her seed Which means the virgin birth that the virgins gonna conceive and bring forth the son and now shall call his name Jesus and That that idea of God coming in the flesh was from the very beginning So it's not in the corner Obviously in New Testament is a lot more revealed right hindsight is 20 20 But in Acts 2 and verse 29, it says men and brethren Let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David that he is both dead and buried and his sepulchre is with us unto this day Therefore being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that are the fruit of his loins according to the flesh He would raise up Christ to sit on his throne He's seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ that his soul was not left in hell Neither his flesh did see corruption this Jesus had God raised up whereof we all are witnesses So you can see a couple things here. Is that who's who's gonna be sitting on his throne Christ? well in Psalm 132 who's sitting on the throne the Lord and The Lord was going to become what he's gonna take be the fruit of David's loins in Romans chapter 1 it says that he was going to be at the seed of David and this was a fore-promise of the Holy Prophets that he that he was gonna be at the seed of David according to the flesh But then he was declared to be the son of God with power according to the resurrection of the dead Meaning that he's both the Son of Man and the Son of God at the same time, okay Go to Isaiah chapter 9 Isaiah chapter 9 Another Old Testament passage showing us that God was going to come in the flesh And obviously Isaiah 9 does correlate with Isaiah 7 14 Which is that a virgin shall conceive and bring forth the Son and now it's our call is named Emmanuel Which being interpreted well in the New Testament says with being interpreted as God with us Right so Emmanuel that's what that name means is God with us But in Isaiah 9 6 Isaiah 9 6 for unto us a child was born unto us a son is given and the government shall be Upon his shoulder and his name shall be called wonderful counselor the mighty God the everlasting father the Prince of Peace Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end upon the throne of who? David upon his throne To order it and to establish it with judgment with justice from henceforth even forever the zeal the Lord of hosts will Perform this like is this talking about Jesus. We'll go to Luke chapter 1 Luke chapter 1 Luke chapter 1 Luke chapter 1 of verse 31 Luke chapter 1 of verse 31 And this isn't all the passages where it talks about this so these are private bigger ones that you would look at As far as okay where in the Old Testament does it say that God was going to become a man? That he was going to take on flesh But in Luke 1 verse 31 it says behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb and bring forth the Son and shall call his name Jesus he shall be great and shall be called the son of the highest and the Lord God Shall give unto him the throne of his father David And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever in his kingdom there shall be no end sound familiar That is Psalm. I mean, that's Isaiah 9 7 right there, right? In verse 34 then said Mary. It's the angel how shall this this be saying? I know not a man Why because she's a virgin right this is the virgin birth and the angel answered and said unto her the Holy Ghost shall come upon Me and the power of the highest shall overshadow thee therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God So This obviously the virgin birth is so important when it comes to the idea of who Jesus is That's why we celebrate Christmas. I mean Christmas really does show you hey He he's come in the flesh like this promise of God becoming one of us came came to pass and that the Son of God the Word was made flesh and dwelled among us and Go to Luke chapter Luke chapter 20 Luke chapter 20. I Can't remember if I think I did a whole sermon on this idea of the root and offspring of David But this kind of encapsulates what I'm talking about and the fact that when he's the son of man He's also the son of God at the same time, you know in the fact that he's God, but he also became a man, okay and And Luke chapter 20 in verse 41. This is actually brought up in a lot of the Gospels when Jesus questions them this right and It says in verse 41 and he said unto them. How say they that Christ is David's son? And David and David himself saith in the book of Psalms the Lord said unto my Lord sit thou on my right hand Till I make thine enemies thy footstool David therefore calls him Lord. How is he then his son? Okay, so that's get what he's saying here is that Christ is supposed to be the son of David, right? and that's that's brought up a lot in the Old Testament, but he's saying if Christ is the son of David then why is David calling Christ Lord then right because it's kind of backwards that The son would be called or I'm sorry that the the father would be calling the son Lord Okay, it goes the other direction, right? Here's why in Revelation 22 Revelation 22 in verse 16 Revelation 22 in verse 16 what they weren't getting. Okay. What they weren't understanding is that Christ is both God and man And they were missing that this is that mystery of godliness God was manifest in the flesh that Christ wasn't just a man and that Christ wasn't just God right that That the Christ is both and it says in verse 16. I Jesus so we know who's talking here So verse 16 I Jesus have sent my an angel to testify unto you these things in the churches I am the root and the offspring of David in the bright morning star. So here's how it works Jesus created David. He's the root of David Because he created all things and you know in the beginning was the word and word was with God the word was God The same was in beginning with God and all things were created by him and for him, you know And without him was not anything made that was made. I'm mixing those two up. Forgive me but He created everything so he's the root of David, but he's also the offspring of David he's the seed of David because he was born of the Virgin Mary and Flesh it was put on put on him now go to Daniel chapter 7 Daniel chapter 7 You're like good night. We're getting in the Bible prophecy now Slightly But this is kind of what prompted this sermon if you will as far as like talking about the son of man This is the last point I'm gonna make and then we'll be done But the idea here as far as what's stated here Or this prophecy if you will So Daniel chapter 7 we're talking about Well, what you have to understand is that in Daniel or in the Old Testament in general You have to take the New Testament put a flashlight on that because there's there's sometimes where you'll be talking about his first coming and then sometimes you'll be talking about a second coming and sometimes that'll be in the same sentence and As you know, there's a few thousand a couple thousand years that are between that right now, right? From his first coming in a second coming because he hasn't come yet but So when you're looking at it, you know when you're looking at passages in Daniel and stuff like that Sometimes you have to try to figure out are we talking about the second coming or his first coming? but I believe this passage is is talking about His second coming in general here and we're talking about that final kingdom that one world government That's going to come into place and the Antichrist and all this stuff, right? But in Daniel 7 9 it says this and I beheld till the thrones were cast down and the ancients of days Did sit whose garment was white as snow and the hair of his head like the pure wool His throne was like the fiery flame and his wheels as burning fire a fiery stream issued and Came forth from before him Thousands thousands ministered unto him and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The judgment was set and the books were opened This is actually going all the way up to the right white throne judgment right here when you had the books being open Yeah, the book of life But then you have also the books Which I believe you're talking about the Bible and people being judged according to their works the great white throne verse 11 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake that's the Antichrist I beheld even till the beast was slain and his body destroyed and given to the burning flame Verse 12 as concerning the rest of the beasts. They had their dominion taken away yet their lives were prolonged for a season in time Notice the verse 13 here. I saw in the night visions and behold one like the Son of Man came with the clouds of heaven And came to the ancient of days and they brought him near before him and there was given him Dominion and glory in A kingdom that all people nations and languages should serve him His Dominion is an everlasting Dominion which shall not pass away and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed So notice that it says who's coming in the clouds the Son of Man Okay, one like unto the Son of Man and he's coming and he came to the ancient of days So when you think about the ancient of days, I believe in the right here. We're talking about God the Father, right? God the Father sitting on the throne the Son of Man's coming to the ancient of days coming to God the Father you say Well, is this just a man then right because you say well, you know, this kind of looks like it's just a man Coming in the clouds. Well look down at verse 21 And what I want to show you is that he's also called the ancient of days He that comes in the clouds is also called the ancient of days It says in verse 21 I beheld and the same horn made war with the Saints and prevailed against them until the ancient of days came Who's coming? To save us who's coming in the clouds the Son of Man, but he's also called the ancient of days Because God for example is an all-encompassing term that can mean the Father Son the Holy Ghost or kid You could say that Jesus is God you can say the Holy Ghost is God you can say the Father's God Right same thing with Lord like Jehovah that applies to all three So you'll see where there's passages talking about the Lord sitting upon his throne. Guess who that is Jesus, but you also see the Lord You know talking about the Father or you'll see the Lord talking about the Holy Ghost, you know the Spirit of God The same thing with the ancient of days. I believe that applies to all three So in the same passage, you'll see one like unto the Son of Man that's coming in the clouds and then ancient of days came Right and it says in judgment was given to the saints of the Most High and the time came that the Saints possessed the kingdom Okay, so I don't want to get too much into the weeds on on Daniel and getting into the prophecy there But do you do you do see that there was a prophecy that the Son of Man? Was coming in the clouds, right? So the one time in the Old Testament were Son of Man that phrase Son of Man is used in being attached to Jesus He's coming in the clouds Obviously in Isaiah, I'm sorry in Daniel 9 is the one place where Messiah is used and That's where it says Messiah shall come and it says and Messiah is gonna be cut off But not for himself right because we know that Jesus came to die for us and for the sins of the people so you'll see that as well, but But go to go to Mark chapter 14 and this is what kind of prompted my you know, just this sermon idea here is that Okay, so now you know that when he says he's the Son of Man what is he saying there he's saying he's God in the flesh that God became a man and That he is walking on the earth as a man and that is God with us right And that the Son of Man he keeps calling himself the Son of Man the Son of Man the Son of Man And they're even saying like who is this Son of Man, right? Or they say, you know, you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up but who is the Son of Man? Who is this Son of Man? Notice when they're questioning Jesus and they're they're trying to find something to pin on them to put them to death in verse 60 here So mark chapter 14 verse 60 It says and the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus saying answers thou nothing What it what what is it which these witness against thee But he held his peace and answered nothing again the high priest asked him and said unto him art thou the Christ the Son of the Blessed and Jesus said I am And you shall see the what Son of Man sitting on the right hand of power and coming in the clouds of heaven What's he what's he referring to Daniel chapter 7 right Daniel chapter 7 the Son of Man coming to God the ancient of days coming, right? And it says then the high priest rent his clothes and said what need we any further witnesses? Ye have heard the blasphemy what think ye and they all condemned him to be guilty of death You see how that has I mean listen. Well one he's saying I am the Son of the Blessed, right? I am the Christ. I am the Son of the Blessed. I am the Son of God, right? He's saying yes to that but he's also saying The so I you're gonna see the Son of Man coming in the clouds. Who's that? you're gonna see Jesus the Son of God the Son of Man coming in the clouds and They're just like I mean you can imagine like that significance that they're seeing with that, right? Daniel 9 is where the Messiah is gonna come Daniel chapter 7 We're talking about this one like unto the Son of Man coming in the clouds Go back to mark 13 because actually it states this okay mark 13 one chapter behind there in verse 24 So mark 13 Matthew 24 Luke 21 are obviously famous passages on end times Mark 13 and verse 24 says but in those days after that tribulation the Sun shall be darkened and the moon shall not give her light and the stars of heaven shall fall and the Powers that are in heaven shall be shaken gnosis and then shall they see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with power great power and glory and Then shall he send his angels and shall gather together his elect from the four winds from the uttermost part of the earth The other most parts part of heaven. This is the rapture my friends This is where it in first Thessalonians chapter 4 in verse 15 It says for this we say unto you by the word of Lord that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep for the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout with the voice of the archangel with the trump of God and the dead in Christ shall rise first and then We which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air And so shall we ever be with the Lord This is that that famous rapture passage, but who's it say is coming in the clouds the Son of Man? Do you see the significance? Do you see the significance as far as why he says you'll see the Son of Man coming in the clouds Daniel chapter 7 you'll see when when he states this to the to the the high priest and to all those that are trying to Kill him when he says the Son of Man is coming to class. What's he alluding to Daniel chapter 7 in? the fact that he is the man Christ Jesus he is God in the flesh and They rejected it. Obviously. They were like, this is blasphemy And go to revelation chapter 14 the last thing I'll show you here is really you say where's rapture in revelation Well, all that being in mind, okay Daniel chapter 7 mark 13 mark 14 The Son of Man coming in the clouds Revelation 14 knows what says in verse 14 Revelation 14 and verse 14 it says and I looked and behold a white cloud and Upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of Man almost like verbatim I mean it may actually be verbatim what it says in Daniel chapter 7 one sat like unto the Son of Man Having on his head a crown a golden crown and in his hand a sharp sickle and another angel came out of the temple crying With a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud sounds like the voice of the Archangel, doesn't it? It sounds like with the shout the voice of the Archangel, right It says thrust in thy sickle and rape for the time has come for thee to reap and for the harvest of the earth For the harvest of the earth is ripe And he that sat on the cloud thrust in a sickle on the earth and the earth was reaped now you could look at Matthew chapter 13 dealing with the harvest is the end of the world and obviously the reapers are the Angels and you could look at all that and show you obviously and in Revelation 14 is a little more simplistic Metaphorical allegorical how you want to look at it, but you see that phrase who's coming in the clouds the Son of Man What did Daniel chapter 7 say who's coming to? Save the Saints from you know, the beast overcoming them the Son of Man coming in the clouds And then when he's standing on trial He not only says that he's the son of the blessed that he's the Christ He says and you shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven See the significance of that statement And when you see the fact that it says that God there there is one mediator between God and and men the man Christ Jesus No other religion has a mediator For in order for them to have a mediator that he asked that you had to have someone that became one of us Someone that is one of us to take our place there has to be a substitute this is the Substitutionary death, okay You know, I guess I don't know if that's a big theological term or not But that's basically what they what they call it. Is that when Jesus died on the cross, it's the substitutionary death We were to die physically what Jesus do he died on the cross? He died physically his body's in tune for three days three nights and we died in our sins Where would our soul go went to hell? His soul was not left in hell neither his flesh did see corruption and The fact that he rose from the dead he says I am the first and last time he that liveth and was dead behold I'm alive forevermore Amen and had the keys of hell and of death How do you do that because he's the son of God and he's the son of man and that son of man is a very Important thing to understand that he was and he claimed to be that More in the New Testament than claiming to be the son of God, although he was but to me It's kind of like we know he's God right? Whereas we're usually trying to convince people he is God but the idea is like the thing that's more miraculous is that God became a man and That he put on flesh and then he was made like us and what was the ultimate goal? To die for us the son of man came to seek and to save that which is lost That's why he became a man that's why he became one of us and it was the only way Say well, there's there another way that it could have been done if there was the father would have told Jesus There was another way when he's in the Garden of Gethsemane but that was the only way the only way is the fact that the father gave the son to be the Savior of the world and I hope all that makes sense You know, I know it's more of a Bible study when it comes to that But hopefully when you're reading through the Bible when he says I'm the son of man The son of man is Lord also the Sabbath Those terms should mean a little more to you when you when you when you hear that when he says that he'd be like, yes He is the son of man because he's God in the flesh. So let's end with a word prayer to Heavenly Father We thank you today Thank you for a word and just think for a beautiful Sunday and just pray to be with us throughout the rest of the day I pray to give everybody safety and travels, but also just help us to stay healthy and Heal us from any illnesses or anything like that and Lord I pray to you to bring us back at the appointed time and be Be with us as we go out soul winning pray for open hearts and the Lord for many souls to Receive you and Lord. We love you. Pray also in Jesus Christ name. Amen So they will come and sing one more song and then we'll be dismissed All right, if you would take your song books turn to song 303 Song 303 in your song books And if you would stand We'll sing my faith looks up to the song 303 my faith looks up to the Lamb of Calvary Save your divine Now hear me while I pray Take all my guilt away. Oh Let me from this day be holy Thine May thy rich grace impart strength to my fainting heart my zeal inspired As thou has died for me. Oh May my love to thee pure warm and changeless
