So you're there in Zechariah chapter one and we are continuing our study through the prophets or the prophets series and we got two more counting this one. So we'll have Malachi after this and then we'll be starting probably a different series that I want to do where I'm dealing with so-called contradictions in the Bible. But this prophet right here, Zechariah, if there is a book that's cryptic or just has a lot of crazy stuff in it as far as different things, symbolic type of stuff, it's this book. So when you're dealing with the Old Testament you have like Ezekiel, the major prophet Ezekiel and then you have Zechariah that's got a lot of cryptic stuff in it. So this book is not a book for if you just get saved and you're like alright let's dive into the milk of the word and you start reading Zechariah. So there's a lot of strong meat in this book but let's first of all see what time we're dealing with, who are we dealing with here. Verse one there, it says in the eighth month in the second year of Darius came the word of the Lord unto Zechariah the son of Erechiah the son of Ito the prophet saying the Lord have been sore displeased with your fathers. So first of all who is this Zechariah? Now if you go to Ezra you'll see the fact that he's mentioned in tandem with Haggai and we just got done with Haggai and Haggai was the prophet that was preaching about the fact that hey we need to start building the temple again. Now if you remember that timeline we're in the second year of Darius, we're in the second year of Darius here and we're just maybe a couple months later from when Haggai was preaching I think it was the sixth month of the second year of Darius, Haggai was preaching this and then the eighth month Zechariah but they're really preaching together. You'll see in Ezra that they're preaching together about this and this is when remember the work stopped and then Cyrus gave the decree, they start, they build the foundation, they do all this stuff and then you have these enemies that are coming in and then Darius has to make a decree to state okay no you need to build it and they're going back to work on it. Okay so Zechariah is really just there with Haggai doing the same thing and so that's the timeline. You're dealing with they're building the temple of God after the 70 year captivity, you know the Babylonian captivity and that's why in this chapter it talks about that you have been in verse 12 there talks about the fact that he was had indignation these three score in 10 years so three score is 60 plus 10 is 70 so he's basically talking about the fact that you've had indignation on this city on Zion for 70 years and he's basically talking about that in this passage. Now I don't and this is you know you could disagree with me on this I don't believe this is the same Zechariah that Jesus is talking about okay so go to Matthew 23 so Jesus actually brings up a Zechariah. So Zechariah, Zechariah however you want to say it I say Zechariah that's how it's written in the Old Testament is Zechariah and New Testament says Zechariah but to made its motto you know like a lot of times you'll see that so it doesn't bother me however you say it if you want to say Hosea or Hosea or Hosea however you want to say these names it's fine but he talks about Zacharias the son of Barachias so you can see the similarity here right because it says Zechariah the son of Barachias the son of Ido right and you may wonder is this who he's talking about I don't believe so but you know what I'm not a hundred percent dogmatic on this either but I'll show you who I do think it is I do believe the Bible talks about the Zechariah that Jesus brings up but in Matthew 23 and verse 33 it says ye serpents ye generation of vipers how can ye escape the damnation of hell now that wasn't part of what I wanted to get to but it's like that portion and I love Matthew 23 wherefore behold I send unto you prophets and wise men and scribes and some of them ye shall kill and crucify and some of them shall you scourge in your synagogues and persecute them from city to city that upon you may come all the righteous bloodshed upon the earth from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias the son of Barachias whom ye slew between the temple and the altar barely I say unto you all these things shall come upon this generation. So he's giving a harsh curse on that generation as far as if you remember in that generation you have the whole temple being destroyed not one stone is going to be left upon another he says later on and but you see Abel obviously Abel was killed by Cain right so that was the first person to be murdered was Abel and he was righteous it was it was obviously murder but then he talks about this murdering of Zacharias the son of Barachias and it says where they slew him was between the temple and the altar so you could say well this is the same Zachariah that's in you know that's the prophet and maybe they killed him later on you know they built this temple and then they killed him there you know it's possible okay it never mentions that and obviously Jesus would know whether this happened even if it wasn't written but go to 2nd Chronicles chapter 24 this is who I believe he's talking about okay but I can see why you'd be torn because Zacharias the son of Barachia right you could be like okay but there's there's a lot of Zacharias okay the Zachariah I'm going to show you is clearly not the Zachariah that that we're looking at in this passage because we're dealing way back in Joash's day King Joash okay so we're way before the captivity this is way after the captivity okay or you know right after the captivity 70 years past the Babylonians taking over so we're definitely talking about two Zacharias here and then later on it's going to be talking about the fact that there's another Zachariah that was basically teaching the Word of God and had understanding and visions and you can see how all these would conflate to be like oh that sounds like the same person because obviously Zachariah here is dealing with visions okay but this is who I believe Jesus is talking about notice what it says in verse 20 so you're in 2 Chronicles 24 in verse 20 and the Spirit of God came upon Zachariah the son of Jehoiada the priest which stood above the people and said unto them thus saith God why transgress ye the commandments of the Lord that ye cannot prosper because ye have forsaken the Lord he hath also forsaken you and they conspired against him and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the Lord where was this at in the court the house Lord thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him but slew his son and when he died he said the Lord look upon it and require it well I think Jesus is requiring it so I think it's very clear this is who you're dealing with because it says that you swim between the altar right Jesus said between the temple and the altar and you're dealing with this court right and if you remember well if you know that the the altar is outside in that court right and he's basically saying between the temple and the altar in the court is where you killed him and murdered him and what was he doing he's preaching the Word of God he's preaching hard preaching wasn't he it's interesting that it brings him up because that's what Jesus is doing in Matthew 23 is just ripping their face off okay and the the thing is Joash Joash is the one that saved his life I'm sorry Joash Jehoiada is the one that saved Joash his life you remember Joash is what the the only person that was saved that what's her name good night Athaliah Athaliah the queen killed all the seed royal right and Jehoiada and his wife his wife like saved this child and saved him from dying and how does he reward him that's why I was saying he didn't reward his kindness because Jehoiada saved your life and you kill his son that's what happens in the story okay and so obviously it was wrong what they did it was murder what they did but that being said I think that's a different Zechariah a different Zechariah that you're dealing with when Jesus is talking there I believe he's talking about that story and not the Zechariah that we're dealing with I'm not saying the Zechariah didn't get murdered okay but there's nothing in the book of Zechariah that would make you think that maybe got murdered afterwards I don't know but I personally believe that that's who he's talking about okay but going back to Zechariah chapter 1 you say what are you gonna get into well I can't get into everything this is not an all-inclusive like all the cool stuff that's in Zechariah and by the way there's a lot of cool stuff that's in Zechariah if you ever think that you know the Bible just read Zechariah I challenge you you think you know everything about the Bible read Zechariah read Ezekiel and then come back and talk to me okay because every time I read through those books I'm always like man what is that talking about you know and there's nothing that's like well that contradicts anything and it contradicts salvation or anything like it's just like what is that talking about specifically what are we dealing with here now the first thing that I want you to see here and I'm gonna kind of link to is Zechariah talks about these horses okay different color horses but you'll see that they they are very similar to the colored horses that is it horses of color or colored horses which one should I say right I don't want to offend horses today right I'm joking I just said colored horses and I'm like man I almost feel bad about that so anyway in Revelation 6 and what I want to show you is that there's four different horses of color there's the white horse the red horse the black horse and then there's the the pale horse right well in Zechariah it talks about these horses with different colors that are very similar to that and look at Zechariah chapter 1 verse 8 here okay and I'm just gonna kind of go through some different things here and some things that I think are kind of stand out in Zechariah some things that I normally would pick out that I just not going to go into because sake of time there's 14 chapters we're not gonna be able to go through everything but certain things that kind of stick out that I think are kind of good tools to take into the New Testament and look at verse 8 here says I saw by night and behold a man riding upon a red horse and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in the bottom and behind him were there were their red horses speckled and white then said I oh my lord what are these and the angel that that talked with me said unto me I will show thee what these be and the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said these are they whom the Lord has sent to walk to and fro through the earth and they answered the angel of the Lord that stood among the myrtle trees and said we have walked to and fro through the earth and behold all the earth sit is still and is at rest okay now go to Revelation chapter 6 Revelation chapter 6 because I do believe these horses have a certain color for a certain reason okay I don't think that you really need to understand it to understand what Revelation 6 is talking about I believe it spells it out in Revelation okay that what these horses represent right as far as what's going on during these horses okay so what do we see these horses talking about they go to and fro through the earth and they say that they that the earth is sitting still and is at rest what's another word for that peace okay they're at peace the world is at peace that's what it says in Revelation 6 and verse 3 and we had opened the second seal I heard the second be say come and see and there went out another horse that was red and power was given to him that sat there on to take peace from the earth and that they should kill one another and there were given unto him a great sword so see the correlation here as far as what this red horse represents okay and the fact that he's saying that it's at ease and in Zechariah 1 in verse 15 it says and I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease for I was but a little displeased and they help for the affliction so he's basically saying you know these horses are going out saying that the earth is at rest it's at ease and and God is displeased that they're at ease and at rest so what do you think there that's gonna happen here he's going to take that ease away he's gonna take that rest away okay now go to go to Zechariah chapter 6 because in this passage you'll see not just the red horses but you'll see you'll see the black the white and in this passage it says gray it says grizzled and bay horses okay and I believe this would be your pale horse if you will okay so if you're like what is this pale horse like I guess this grizzled and bay type of horse and so I'm gonna explain to you what I believe these horses are because it keeps talking about them going to and fro through the earth okay and it is actually gonna tell you what these these horses in Zechariah okay now when we get when you're in Revelation I don't believe these are like God's horses that he's using okay I'm gonna explain that in a second here you're like man we're getting deep well we're in Zechariah what you expect okay we're not exactly going to the milk here so we had the milk this morning not really but I was on vacation do you think I was gonna come back and preach something like really light no ain't happening so and Zechariah 6 and verse 1 it says and I turned and lifted lifted up my eyes and looked and behold there came four chariots out from between two mountains and the mountains were mountains of brass in the first chariot were red horses in the second chariot black horses in the third chariot white horses and in the fourth chariot grizzled and bay horses sound familiar now these aren't in order as far as the seals go right because you have white black you have white red black pale in the four seals right but you see all those colors here okay no so it says in verse 4 it says then I answered and said unto the angel that talked with me what are these my lord and the angel answered and said unto me these are the four spirits of the heavens which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth okay so these horses these different colored horses they are the four spirits of the heavens okay now we saw what the red horses rep the red horse would represent right or red horses would represent is basically taking peace from the earth okay you say well how does that relate to Revelation 6 because obviously we know that those seals all that stuff that's going on that's not God doing that right that you know that when the fifth seals open it says how long the Lord will thou not avenge our blood right so we know that God isn't doing that but what you have to understand is that Satan is a counterfeiter okay what is Satan accused or what is he saying that he wants to do in Isaiah 14 I want to be like the most high so is it any marvel that the first horse that shows up is this white horse and what is Jesus going to show up on when he comes to the Battle of Armageddon on a white horse okay and what you have to understand is that what Satan's trying to do is counterfeit what God has okay that's why the Antichrist you know the Antichrist is not going to come out and say like he's the devil he's gonna say I am Christ okay when you see false Christs and false prophets they're gonna say I am Christ okay so he's going to be the counterfeit that's why he's gonna even die and rise from the bottomless pit you know and he's trying to counterfeit what God does so what you're seeing is this big counterfeit of the white red black and and pale horse if you will of what the devil and the Antichrist are doing okay but that's why he's mimicking what God already has okay God has these four spirits of the heavens which are you know visually speaking they're they they look like these horses of different colors that have different things right they do different things and so you can look back at Zechariah meal and see what God's about to do to the heathen right he's gonna take peace from them and he's going to obviously you know there's gonna be pestilences and all that stuff with you know and death and all these different things that those horses if you look at those four seals what do you see you see wars you see peace taken away you see pestilences and famines and you see death right you see people dying okay and that's what God uses and Satan is the counterfeiter okay so those horses in Revelation it's not by accident okay just as much as the devil is trying to look like God he's trying to be like the most high so he wants to do what God does and he wants to you know basically look like the God of the universe okay so I don't wanna get too deep in that okay maybe we'll do that when we get into Revelation 6 or something like that when I go through that whole book go through Zechariah chapter 3 Zechariah chapter 3 so you know when you're first reading through Zechariah I see those horses those things that kind of stick out to me because I'm always thinking like Revelation with the and you know the world knows this as the four horsemen right okay the four horsemen of the apocalypse and you know that stuff is not what God's doing but it's Satan mimicking him okay Zechariah 3 and verse 8 Zechariah 3 verse 8 this is an interesting one because it talks about the branch okay and maybe I'll do a whole sermon on the branch dealing with that's Jesus but it talks about the stone that has seven eyes okay so bear with me here okay but I'm gonna explain this and you notice that I'm usually going to the New Testament to explain what's going on okay when you're looking at Zechariah you need to go to the New Testament and see okay how does this explain this okay sometimes Zechariah can give you a little more information but if you don't understand what you're even looking at then that's not gonna help you you need to know what is this talking about first of all New Testament is going to show you what it's talking about and then you can see okay there's a little more detail maybe in Zechariah that we didn't have in the New Testament because obviously it's pointing you back to it Zechariah 3 and verse 8 it says here now Oh Joshua the high priest thou and I fellows that sit before thee for they are men wondered at for behold I will bring forth my servant the branch so for sake of time I don't have time to go into all the places that the branch is brought up but it's brought up in other prophets as well but it's talking about the Lord Jesus verse 9 it says for behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua upon one stone shall be seven eyes behold I will engrave the graving thereof set the Lord of hosts and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day you're like what are you talking about right a stone with seven eyes okay well go to Zechariah chapter 4 Zechariah chapter 4 because it's gonna you know reiterate or basically give you an idea of what we're talking about and then I'll take you to Revelation because Revelation is gonna really tell you what this is about okay so get this you got this stone that's laid before Joshua and it has seven eyes on it okay seven eyes on one stone and Zechariah chapter 4 and verse 1 it says the angel that talked with me came again and waked me as a man that has wakened out of his sleep and said unto me what seest thou and I said I have looked and behold a candlestick of all of gold and a bowl upon the top of it and his seven lamps thereof and seven pipes of the seven lamps which are upon the top thereof and the two olive trees by it upon I'm sorry one upon the right side of the bowl and the other upon the left side there up okay so what do we see here we see this candlestick with seven lamps on it now this is something that's in the temple of God okay there's the the golden candlestick right that has seven lamps on this okay now what you have to understand is that in heaven this stuff exists everything that Moses did was the pattern of what was in heaven so right now there's an arc of the Covenant in heaven there is the golden candlestick in heaven okay and it says that there's seven lamps upon there while we see this stone with seven eyes that's mentioned in chapter 3 chapter 4 we're talking about this candlestick that has these seven pipes that go up to these seven lamps if you will and keep reading there in verse verse 4 or 10 I'm sorry so chapter 4 verse 10 it says for for who had despised the day of small things for they shall rejoice and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven what seven talking about the seven lamps okay they are the eyes of the Lord which run to and fro through the whole earth now if you were reading through this and you never read Revelation you're gonna be like what are we talking about here okay so we talk about this stone that has seven eyes okay then you go over here we have these seven lamps which are the seven eyes of the Lord okay go to Revelation chapter 1 Revelation chapter 1 Revelation chapter 1 Revelation chapter 1 Revelation 1 in verse 4 and what you're gonna see here is there something in Revelation it talks about these seven spirits of God and you may have wondered what that is okay so whether I'm confusing you or helping you understand this I don't know but so we're talking about these seven eyes on this stone which are seven lamps which are the eyes of the Lord and then we're gonna deal with this set which are the seven spirits of God now notice what it says in Revelation chapter 1 and verse 4 says John to the seven churches which are in Asia grace be unto you in peace from him which is and which was and which is to come and from the seven spirits which are before his throne go to Revelation 4 verse 5 Revelation 4 and verse 5 so you may have read through Revelation be like what is this time why did these seven spirits of God well Zechariah actually was talking about this okay that what's in heaven right he's seeing what's in heaven he's seeing this golden candlestick with seven lamps and he's talks about this stone that has seven eyes and in Revelation 4 verse 5 it says now out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices and there were seven lamps a burn a fire burning before the throne which are the seven spirits of God okay so those seven lamps that you see in Zechariah chapter 4 what are they they are the seven or the seven spirits of God go to Revelation chapter 5 verse 6 Revelation chapter 5 and verse 6 Revelation chapter 5 and verse 6 now this is all going to come together okay we have these seven eyes which are seven lamps which are seven spirits of God okay and Revelation 5 verse 6 does not be held and lo in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts and in the midst of the elders stood a lamb as it had been slain having seven horns and what seven eyes which are the seven spirits of God sent forth into all the earth see how that all comes together because Jesus is the stone which the builders rejected which has made the head of the corner he is the lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world and he has the seven spirits of God upon him which go out forth throughout all the earth which are the sevens eyes of the Lord okay you're like what are these spirits well go to Isaiah chapter 11 Isaiah chapter 11 and verse 1 you're like good night how many places do we have to go to to put this together yeah we're dealing with the cryptic passage okay when you read Revelation do you really understand that you see this lamb as if it had been slain and seeing these seven eyes okay which are seven lamps that are before the throne which are the seven spirits of God okay you're probably wondering what's this talking about and notice what it says in Isaiah chapter 11 verse 1 and it shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse and a branch shall go grow out of his roots sound familiar Zechariah 3 the branch my servant the branch and then the stone with seven eyes notice in verse 2 and the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him the spirit of wisdom and understanding the spirit of counsel and might the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord count those spirits there's seven the spirit of the Lord the spirit of wisdom understanding counsel might knowledge fear fear of the Lord okay seven different spirits that are mentioned there now what you're dealing with here is you're dealing with attributes right you're dealing with you know you think of wisdom for example the spirit of wisdom wisdom is personified in Proverbs okay talked about wisdom with her seven pillars okay and you know basically seeking her and wisdom is liking unto the virtuous woman if you will and I did a whole sermon on that but wisdom is personified but wisdom it says that basically I was with the Lord at the beginning you know when the foundation of the earth was laid right it's basically talking about wisdom going wherever the habitations of men are okay and you deal with these seven spirits these seven eyes of the Lord which are the spirit of wisdom the spirit of understanding the spirit of might all these different attributes are going to and fro through the earth okay I don't believe they're actual like persons right like you have these seven persons you know of the Spirit of God or anything like that I believe you're dealing with what it says in Isaiah 11 but these are upon the Lord Jesus okay that means the spirit Lord's upon him the spirit of wisdom on the spirit of understanding all these are upon him and that's why you see this lamb as if it had been slain why because he was he died for our sins and then he had he has seven eyes okay now horns I don't know if I want even the horns are usually representing crowns right and you know that's something else for another day that's not even in Zechariah so so you see this stuff with the with and there's in Zechariah chapter chapter 4 as well deals with the two all of branches okay which are actually Moses and Elijah I believe which are the two witnesses that are mentioned in Revelation chapter 11 I don't want to get into that right now that's another rabbit trail but in this one passage here from Zechariah at the end of Zechariah 3 through Zechariah 4 you're dealing with a lot of stuff that's been mentioned in Revelation from the two olive branches or all of trees that are the two witnesses that are gonna come down and prophesy to these seven lamps which are seven eyes upon this stone that's laid that are the seven spirits of God that are mentioned in Revelation okay see all that information that's just packed in those two areas right there and Revelation does give you a lot more light okay just to be honest with you when it comes to those all of the two olive branches there's no real new information that I can see in Zechariah 4 that you don't get from Revelation so going back to this is more so all that's what that meant Zechariah 4 right so it gives that flashlight okay that's what that meant back there but it doesn't really give you as much new information if you will going back to it go to Zechariah chapter 9 Zechariah chapter 9 I'm just kind of showing you some prophecies that were fulfilled that are mentioned in Zechariah and one of them is the fact that Jesus was gonna ride upon an ass or the cult the full of an ass right that that's how he was gonna make his entrance and this was fulfilled obviously when he went into Jerusalem and they laid down the branches saying Hosanna to the Sun you know and glory to God in the highest and Hosanna and it goes through all that they lay down the palm branches all that stuff Zechariah 9 verse 9 Zechariah 9 verse 9 it says rejoice greatly Oh daughter of Zion shout Oh daughter of Jerusalem behold thy King cometh unto thee he is just and having salvation lowly and riding upon an ass and upon a cult the full of an ass and I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the horse from Jerusalem and the battle bow shall be be cut off and he shall speak peace unto the heathen and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea and from river even to the ends of the earth as for thee also by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water so you definitely see you know Jesus is coming to save us right he's saving us from hell and you know there's a whole sermon in there that you could be preaching on that as far as that whole passage he's gonna speak peace to the heathen and obviously that middle wall partition is being broken down there's peace between Jew and Gentile all that stuff is going on in this passage but that's where that comes from so when you see that and you know in Matthew and all and all the other Gospels that mention it it's coming from Zechariah now go to Zechariah chapter 11 Zechariah chapter 11 this one's interesting because this one is brought up obviously in the New Testament but it's not attributed to Zechariah it's actually attributed to Jeremiah okay but it's not written in Jeremiah okay so you'll see this but this is it shows you that a lot of the prophets were preaching the same things other prophets were preaching you just may not have been written in their books okay so Isaiah may have been preaching a bunch of stuff that Jeremiah did which we know he did right we see a lot of overlap of Jeremiah's preaching against Babylon and and Isaiah is preaching a Babylon so it's not a marvel that other prophets were preaching the same thing Zechariah 11 verse 10 it says and I took my staff even beauty and cut it asunder that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people and it shall and it was broken in that day and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the Lord and I said unto them if you think good give me my price and if not forbear so they weighed for my price 30 pieces of silver and the Lord said unto me cast it unto the potter a goodly price that I was prized at out of them and I took the 30 pieces of silver and cast them to the potter in the house of the Lord then I cut asunder mine own staff even bands that I might break the Brotherhood between Judah and Israel so one thing to notice here is that who's being priced God right who's talking here he's talking you know in first person saying that they give me my price and if not forbear so they weighed for my price 30 pieces of silver who's talking the Lord the Lord is saying I take my staff even beauties and I and I broke and I break my covenant which I had made with all the people and if you know this you know the beauty and bands these are these two stabs that he's talking about in this passage and in the end he breaks both of them okay which makes sense because he broke the covenant that he had with Israel not because it's because of the finding fault with them right finding fault with them because they continue not in this covenant and he regarded them not said the Lord and so it's interesting that he's talking about breaking this covenant breaking this staff that he has and and then he's talking about the fact that he that that he's gonna be sold okay his own people right he came into his own his own received him not and we know that Judas is the one that ends up doing this okay go to Matthew chapter 26 Matthew chapter 26 and verse 14 now this wouldn't be the first place I would go to like show the deity of Jesus but this definitely shows the deity of Jesus okay because he was the one that was portrayed for 30 pieces of silver and Zechariah it's God that's saying that you price for me you know 30 pieces of silver I mean even other places you know when it says they pierced my hands and my feet you know that the idea that it's that personal pronoun that that he's using there and in Matthew 26 and verse 14 says then one of the twelve called Judas Iscariot went with the chief priests and said unto them what will you give me and I will deliver him unto you and they covenanted with him for 30 pieces of silver and from that time he sought an opportunity to pray to betray him so 30 pieces of silver is what they covenanted and said hey we'll give you 30 pieces of silver for Jesus okay go to Matthew chapter 27 verse 3 Matthew 27 verse 3 it says then Judas which had betrayed him when he saw that he was condemned repented himself and brought again the 30 pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders saying I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood and they said what is that to us seed out to that and he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed and went and hanged himself and the chief priest took the silver pieces and said it is not lawful for to put them into the Treasury because it is the price of blood and they took counsel and bought with them the potter's field to bury strangers in wherefore that field was called the field of blood unto this day then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet saying and they took the 30 pieces of silver the price of him that was valued whom they of the children of Israel did value and gave them for the potter's field as the Lord appointed me so this is what Jeremiah spoke right it doesn't say as it is written in the book of Jeremiah it says it's fulfilled which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet okay so it doesn't have to be written in Jeremiah so when you look back at Zechariah it doesn't say it exactly like that it doesn't have to because he's not saying as it is written in Zechariah this is what said you know Zechariah was preaching something similar right and it was said similarly that you know the price for me 30 pieces of silver and they gave they cast them to the potter in the house of the Lord it says in Zechariah okay and what is basically stating there what does that mean means that they purchased the potter's field because it was cast in the house of the Lord and they didn't want to keep the money in the house of the Lord because it was blood money okay and that's what you're dealing with there in Zechariah and that was fulfilled obviously when Jesus was portrayed go to Zechariah chapter 12 Zechariah chapter 12 now this one right here like obviously the 30 pieces of silver is very well known Jesus coming and riding upon an ass the colt the pole of an ass is very well known this one I don't know if it's very well known but it's obviously something that is very parallel to other passages in the Bible in Zechariah chapter 12 verse 3 it says and in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces though all the people the earth be gathered together against it so this burdensome stone okay notice what says in Matthew 31 I'm sorry Matthew 31 Matthew 21 there is no Matthew 31 so Matthew 21 dealing with the stone which the builders rejected it's interesting because you see in Zechariah chapter 3 this stone that's laid that has seven eyes then you see the fact that that he's gonna make in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people and the idea that Jesus is this stone this rock of offense okay and you know this stumbling stone if you will that they stumble at and just that the whole world stumbles at and the fact that they think that you're saved by your works okay that's essentially what that stumbling stone is but Matthew 21 verse 42 Matthew 21 verse 42 it says Jesus said unto them did you never read in the scriptures the stone which the builders rejected the same has become the head of the corner this is the Lord's doing and it is marvelous in our eyes therefore say unto you the kingdom of God shall be taken from you and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof and whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken but on whomsoever it shall fall it will grind him to powder and interesting that Zechariah is talking about this burdensome stone that's going to if they burden themselves with it it will cut them in pieces okay and it's basically saying you fall on the stone you're done the stone falls on you you're done right there's nothing you can't put anything to it and if it comes on you you're gonna be broken in pieces okay nothing's gonna touch this stone okay and it's a burdensome stone because people were stumbling at that stumbling stone and trying to gain their own righteousness through the law and you know what Israel by and large stumbled at that something so and guess what people are still stumbling at that stumbling stone okay now go to Zechariah chapter 12 and verse 10 now this passage here I might be hitting on when we get into Isaiah 59 okay this is the Zionist like love verse right here okay this is the verse that they always go to to say that when Jesus comes back all the Jews are getting saved okay now I want I'm gonna read this and I want you to tell me that's what you saw here okay Zechariah 12 verse 10 and I will pour out upon the house of David and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem the spirit of grace and of supplications and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced and they shall mourn for him as one mourneth for his only son and shall be in bitterness for him as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn now let's look at this now if you go to Zechariah 13 1 when you go to the next chapter there it says in that day there shall be a fountain open to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness now this is clearly talking about the fact that taken away our sins when he died on the cross for our sins okay when he returns the second time the Bible says he's gonna be without sin unto salvation that he is done dealing with sin I mean read Hebrews chapter 9 okay he died for sins once he's not coming back to deal with sins he's gonna it's without sin unto salvation the Bible says so it's not like he's coming back the second time to deal with sins okay when he's dealing with sins he's punishing sin is what he's gonna be doing not forgiving sin now go to John chapter 19 John chapter 19 let's talk about this verse because this is a verse that just ripped out of context they go to Matt they go to Roman chapter 11 and say and then they they come back to this verse Roman chapter 11 is never quoting this verse this is not quoted this is not as it is written in Zechariah or as it is written that they shall look on me whom they pierced that's not in Romans 11 but somehow it's like like a magnet they just go back to Zechariah it's like you should have went back a little further because it's actually in Isaiah 59 okay I don't want to spend too much time on this but maybe I will just because I don't know if I want to spend that too much time on Isaiah and Isaiah 59 on this but in John 19 this is where this comes from they shall look on me whom they pierced or basically how this would be fulfilled verse 33 it says but when they came to Jesus and saw that he was dead already they break not his legs but one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side and forthwith came there out blood and water and he that saw it bare record and his record is true and he know that it that he saith true that you might believe for these things were done that the scripture might that the scripture should be fulfilled a bone of him shall not be broken and again another scripture said they shall look on him whom they pierced okay so him being pierced in the side it fulfilled two scriptures and the fact that not one bone was broken so they were gonna go and break all their legs so that they die and but it also fulfilled the fact that they're gonna look on him whom they pierced now I think this this passage has twofold importance okay one is for the time at hand right that there's people standing there when they pierced him and he's saying I saw it right isn't that like the big point here I saw and bear record and he that by record and I know this is true because I saw it you know it's like very clear that I saw this happen he was pierced okay there's other people that saw this okay but in John 16 verse 19 when it's talking about people mourning as for an only son they're obviously sad that this happened okay they're actually mourning for the person that died right and I don't think it's a coincidence that it's first firstborn and for your only son right it's talking about this because it's the only begotten Son of God that died on the cross okay so I think that that's very important to see there but in John 16 verse 19 notice what Jesus is saying to his disciples because he's talking about how he's gonna go away but he's gonna come back and they're just like I don't know what you're talking about you know yet a little while and I go away and a little while I'll be back you know like he's basically saying this back and forth and they're like what are you talking about in John 16 verse 19 says now Jesus knew that they were just desires to ask him and said unto them do you inquire among yourselves of that I said a little while and you shall not see me and again a little while and you shall see me really rarely I say unto you that you shall weep and lament but the world shall rejoice and you shall be sorrowful but your sorrow shall be turned into joy so who's sorrowful is it everybody sorrowful no he's talking to his disciples that believed on him they're sorrowful but the world's gonna rejoice there's a stark difference between the way his disciples felt when Jesus died and the way the world felt when Jesus died now keep reading there says a woman when she is to travail hath sorrow because her hours come but as soon as she is delivered of the child she remembereth no more the anguish for joy that a man is born into the world and ye now therefore have sorrow but I will see you again and your heart shall rejoice and your joy no man taketh from you this is what I believe Zechariah is talking about that when Jesus dies and you're gonna look on him who may appears they're gonna mourn for him as if they lost their only son or their firstborn son there's gonna be this great mourning and they're gonna go into the houses apart I mean if you've read the story and all the Gospels they're mourning and they're just like off in their houses mourning about it then they go back and they don't you know they're basically saying you must be you know delusional because there's no way that he rose from the dead like they didn't want to believe it they were just in a deep mourning for the fact that Jesus died okay now go to Revelation chapter 1 or Revelation chapter 1 because I do believe this is twofold when it says they shall look on him whom they appears I'll say this the only place that that's mentioned in that phrase they shall look on him whom they appears is in John 19 where he's at the cross hanging on the cross and people are saying I saw this okay so if you want a really technical version as far as what this verse is talking about it's talking about the day that Jesus died on the cross and he was you know pierced with a spear and those around him saw it most of them were rejoicing but you know what there were people that were mourning and they were mourning as if they lost their only son okay that's what that scripture is really talking about now if you want to look at like a dual meaning or how it's gonna also be turned in another light notice Revelation 1 and verse 7 Revelation 1 and verse 7 because the only other place that this is mentioned it is mentioned when he comes back the second time but notice what it says Revelation 1 verse 7 behold he cometh with clouds and every eye shall see him and they also which pierced him and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him even so amen now I don't believe that wailing when you see wailing and gnashing of teeth weeping wailing and gnashing of teeth or wailing in general you're not dealing with mourning like you're mourning over losing a loved one okay you want to get some more you want to put some more teeth on that go to Revelation chapter 6 Revelation chapter 6 in verse 15 so when Jesus comes in the clouds which is happening in at the end of Revelation 6 here it says in verse 15 and the kings of the earth and the great men and the rich men and chief captains and and the mighty men and every bondman and every free man hid themselves in the dens and the rocks of the mountains and said to the mountains and rock rock I need stop drinking coffee fall on us and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne and from the wrath of the lamb for the great day of his wrath is come and who shall be able to stand though when Jesus comes in the clouds listen all they that pierced him are gonna see it now here's the thing though with that no one alive right now is actually seen like saw him pierced okay or actually physically pierced him I believe when Jesus comes in the cloud every eye is gonna see him that means everybody in hell is gonna see him everybody's going to see him you say well how is that possible because he's God that's how it's possible okay you're like that's here as a cop-out no he's God he's I mean he can be everywhere in every moment okay but when he comes in the clouds I believe when it says also they that pierced him okay well first of all let's say that was talking about people that are alive then you're talking about the Jews okay you're talking about people that subscribe to the religion that glories in the fact that they killed Jesus okay so what are they doing when they see him they're wailing that's what they're doing you know what the rest of the world is doing they're saying after the the rocks fall on us you know what Jesus said that the world was going to rejoice when when when Jesus dies they're not gonna be rejoicing when he comes back the second time and they look on him whom they pierced okay so this passage to say that like well this is when all the Jews are gonna believe on Christ it's crazy okay first of all I believe that was fulfilled when Jesus was on the cross and they were looking upon him whom they pierced okay I believe that's when that was fulfilled and in Revelation 1 7 is basically stating that yeah everyone's gonna see him even the people that pierced him are gonna see him okay and it's really just giving you a big bigger indication that hey every eye is going to see him okay when he comes in the clouds everyone's gonna see him and I believe that includes people that are in hell those people that had Jesus crucified are gonna see him coming in the clouds that's why he says you shall see my face no more until you shall see the you know it basically says I'm gonna misquote it now but blessed is he that come into the name of the Lord you know basically when you see him coming in his glory and he even says these people you're gonna see all these people from the east and the west sitting with Abraham Isaac and Jacob and you yourselves thrust out okay so this passage here been ripped out of context tried that they try to shove it in there with Roman chapter 11 and it's just like the square peg into like a triangle hole and they're just like get in there and every single time they read that passage like go back to Zechariah I'm like what are you doing you know that passage literally is in another book it's in Isaiah and I'm gonna get to that so that's to be continued when we go to Isaiah 59 because I'm gonna really bring that one home but this is just a little preview and Zechariah here as far as that's concerned now go to Zechariah chapter 13 Zechariah chapter 13 and verse 7 you know one day I'm gonna learn my lesson not to drink coffee before I preach on that second sermon because it happens every time or at least switch the water before I start preaching so this last thing I'm going to show you here and again we could spend I could spend hours going through Zechariah going through all these different things you know you know it talks about Jesus feet you know standing on the Mount of Olives and how the Mount of Olives has this great record you know obviously depicting that the second coming of Christ right the sermon you know or the the all of it discourse if you will where he's talking about you can get all this different stuff you talk about the Feast of Tabernacles in chapter 14 you talk about the woman that has the stork wings that carries the the lead you know to Shinar and but you know there's a lot of cryptic stuff you can get into that we just can't do in one sermon so Zechariah 13 verse 7 here Zechariah chapter 13 verse 7 this is something that Jesus talks about being fulfilled when he's in the Garden of Gethsemane okay verse 7 awake a sword against my shepherd and against the man that is my fellow set the Lord of hosts smite the shepherd and the sheep shall be scattered and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones so Jesus quotes this you remember he was talking about the fact that all of you are going to be offended of me and that's when Peter's like no you know some may be offended but not I I'm ready to die for you and that's when Jesus said you're gonna deny me three times before the cock crows right so but in the Garden of Gethsemane they all fled okay and this is the scripture that that's stating that now there's interesting things in this verse you know that kind of just pop out to me you know it says against my shepherd and against the man that is my fellow and the idea of you know the trinity and the fact that you think of uh Hebrew chapter one where it says uh but unto the son he said thy throne oh God is forever and ever except for righteousness except for thy kingdom that was loved righteous and hated iniquity therefore God even thy God hath anoint anointing thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows and the idea just that terminology of fellow um and the shepherd and just that terminology that's being used for Jesus and he is the shepherd and bishop of our souls he's the chief shepherd he's the great shepherd he's the good shepherd and he is the chief shepherd of the everlasting covenant the blood of the everlasting covenant that says in Hebrew chapter 13 and so yeah they they you know how many times you see that they they sold him for a price of 30 pieces of silver that they are going to pierce him you know they're going to look on him whom they pierced right so they pierce him here it's talking about them smiting the shepherd and so there's a lot in here about the first coming and what Jesus is going to do okay there's also a lot about the second coming and what you're going to do second is packed with prophecy it's packed with prophecy of Jesus coming the first time and the second time and you can definitely see that if you're in the old testament before you have the new testament as this flashlight you can definitely see why his disciples were struggling with when was his kingdom coming right because all this is in that book right it's all like in those 14 chapters and you don't know that there's this big break between that okay and even in Jesus even after that when they were writing the new testament you have Paul and you know Paul I believe he thought that it was going to come in his day okay and that being said it's just something that you know it obviously we're back here 2,000 years later from when Jesus died and rose again from the dead or almost 2,000 years and we're we're thinking like how did you not see that you know the new testament is showing that so clearly but you can definitely see how these things are just like lock and staff or in this chapter is talking about something that actually happens before the next or after the next chapter and so you never want to go into these books like Zechariah even Daniel as being like okay I'm going to take this and try to fit it into anything in the new testament you need to take the new testament and see how all this fits okay because a lot of stuff is going to be very cryptic it's going to be harder to understand but when you have the new testament it's going to shed a lot of light on that okay and you know just something that you need to know when you're going into Zechariah is it's gonna be fun so but you know this is why it's good to have a lot of bible memorized and to read the new testament a lot if you've read through the new testament a lot and then go to Zechariah you're gonna be like oh that's in the new testament that's in the new testament that's in the new testament and the new testament is going to help you go back to it and kind of make a lot of sense of it so that's Zechariah we got one more book and the prophets and then we're going to move on to something else so Malachi will be the next one or the last one but let's end with the word apparently father we thank you today thank you for your word thank you for the book of Zechariah lord help us to understand it and help us to to learn from it use it and lord we just thank you for it and lord just thank you for the salvations today and throughout the weeks and and lord for the baptisms this morning I pray to you to be with us throughout the rest of this week and lord we love you and pray else in Jesus Christ's name amen
