Matthew chapter 9, we're continuing on with our study through Matthew and there's a lot of interesting things in this chapter. It starts off here that he entered into a ship and passed over and came into his own city and so obviously Jesus, he was in Capernaum and all that stuff before in chapter 8 and so the first thing that we see here is that the story where this man that was sick of the palsy and and basically how his friends and stuff like that brought him in through the through the roof and everything and so in verse in verse 2 there it says and behold they brought to him a man sick of the palsy lying on a bed and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy son be of good cheer thy sins be forgiven thee now in other places it talks about how they literally take the tiles of the roof out and for sake of time I'm gonna take you those passages but they lowered him in so you can definitely see you know why Jesus is like seeing their faith as far as like you know just the extremes are taking to get this man to them but but one thing you know what's the palsy so palsy you know even today is a medical term dealing it basically refers to various types of paralysis okay which makes sense because he's in a bed and so he's not walking and the whole point of the story is that he's he's he's arising and walking out of there you know taking up his bed and walking out but notice that it says here he saw their faith and it says that son be of good cheer thy sins be forgiven thee and throughout this chapter you're gonna see a lot of you know your faith has made you whole your faith your faith your faith is gonna keep saying that and so this is a theme throughout the Gospels is the your faith has made you whole that the lepers you know the ten lepers and all those other different things that and that's in Luke but just different places where it talks about how his faith and notice that he says this before he heals them of that so the priority of healing the soul over the body okay meaning that he first says to him your sins are forgiven you and then later on he to prove to them that he has the power to forgive sins he's like I take up your bed and walk and so I think about this in the fact that now there are there are there's another story where he heals this this one man and then later on he says does thou believe on the Son of God and so there's the kind of the backwards realm of that too but when I think about this I think about mission work the mission work of going out and and you know like we're gonna build some houses for these people out the pygmies and all this other stuff and we're gonna go to Haiti we're gonna go all these different places and we're gonna go feed the hungry and all this stuff it's like what about their soul though it's not that that's not a good thing to do meaning like it's not bad to feed the hungry and it's not bad to build a house for somebody but what's the main priority is that their soul gets saved that their soul is forgiven of their sins and the thing that's interesting though is what it says here is when he says son be of good cheer thy sins be forgiven it because actually later on it's gonna say daughter when he's talking to the woman that's healed with the issue of blood and you say well that's interesting that he calls him son which I believe is referring to the fact that they're children of God okay if you think about John 1 12 very famous passage but as many as received him to them gave you power to become the sons of God even then that what believe on his name so they saw their faith and he says son be a bitch you know be a good cheer thy sins be forgiven II you think Galatians 3 where it says you're all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus so and what's great about this passage is later on we see with daughter is that it's not just to men okay and I'm sure there's some crazy religion out there there are some crazy sect of Christianity be like only men can get saved it says it gives you the power to become sons of God not daughters of God you know it's ridiculous but all that to say is that there are cases where talks about that you're my sons and daughters and so when I see daughter I always just like seeing that because it really is you know shows and this whole white this weird idea that you know like women are gonna become like a man you know like a 33 year old man at the resurrection it's really strange you know if that was the case then you would be called a son of God you know spiritually okay anyway but you may ask to yourself because obviously we believe in the Trinity and you say well why would the son why would the son of man because the whole thing is in the story he's saying that you may know that the son of man has power on earth to forgive sins and you say well you know how is he calling him son if he's not the father okay well go to Hebrews chapter 2 Hebrew chapter 2 I just want to kind of explain this a little bit why I believe he could say son or why he could say daughter so Hebrews chapter 2 in verse 10 that's what it says it says for it became him and obviously we're talking about Jesus in context here it says in verse 10 of Hebrews 2 for it became him for whom are all things and by whom are all things and bringing many sons unto glory to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings for both he that sanctified and they who are sanctified are all of one for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren saying I will declare thy name unto my brethren in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee and again I will put my trust in him and again behold I and the children which God hath given me and it says notice in first much then as the children are made partakers of flesh and blood he also himself likewise took part of the same that through death he might destroy him that had the power that even the devil and notice in verse 17 says wherefore in all things that behooves him to be made like unto his brethren so the one thing that you keep seeing over and over again is the fact that he is you know brethren me meaning brother brother brother brother is that that relationship of the son with us but you know why would he why would he say son why could he say son or why could he say daughter well if you remember he's gonna be called the everlasting father right not because he is the everlasting father but because why he came in his father's name he did the works of his father and this is where this really does apply and the fact that the words that he speaks are you know basically he's the messenger and we talked about this a little bit with how you know an angel can literally say you know I you know like speak for God meaning it didn't say thus saith the Lord it just says this is what God said and he's just speaking on the behalf of God okay so the father you know I believe when he says that he's speaking on behalf of the father saying son arise and there's many verses on this but good or very good John chapter 8 and verse 28 so I don't want you to get tripped up on this and be like oh you know modalisms right I don't think you were okay a little facetious there but but all I have to say is that this really is where this applies you know why is he called the everlasting father you know well he did go around saying son your sins are forgiven a daughter your sins are forgiven II because he's coming in the name of the father and he's coming on behalf of the father and he's speaking the words of the father and you think about this and even in John 3 at the end of the chapter there it says the father love of the son have given all things into his hand okay and notice in John 8 verse 28 it says then said Jesus unto them when you have lifted up the Son of Man then shall you know that I am he and that I do nothing of myself but as my father had taught me I speak these things and he that sent me is with me the father hath not left me alone for I do always those things that please him go to John chapter 12 verse 49 John chapter 12 verse 49 so notice that you know what the father had taught me I speak these things and I do nothing of myself okay so the father is always in there you know when when when he's speaking or he's doing these things so you got to understand that the father can speak through the son and say son my sins be forgiven thee and obviously he he is the Godhead bodily you know in him is the the Godhead bodily okay meaning that the father was in him I'm in the father the father and me and the Holy Ghost obviously there too and so the fact that the father would be speaking through him is not and what it would make perfect sense but in John chapter 12 verse 49 it says for I have not spoken of myself but the father which sent me he gave me a commandment what I should say and what I should speak and I know that his commandment is life everlasting whatsoever I speak therefore even as the father said unto me so I speak okay so it's not a big deal right if he's saying son my sins for be forgiven thee when he says you know I have not spoken of myself now this goes into the Holy Ghost because what the Holy Ghost what the Holy Ghost what's to say about the Holy Ghost the Holy Ghost will not speak of himself but what but what the words of the Sun so what the Sun says so what do you have ultimately with the Holy Ghost you have the words of the Father coming down through the Sun through the Holy Ghost and so you know you know it makes perfect sense honestly and I can go to a whole bunch of other verses but John 14 10 it says believe is thou not that I am in the father and the father and me the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself but the father that dwells in me he do with the works okay so that's how that's why that makes sense okay because I don't believe that you know when it comes to it says in first Peter talk about beget me begetting us it talks about it says that elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father who has begotten us again until a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead okay and so but you also got to take the relationship you know obviously we're brethren with Christ right and we're joint heirs with Christ and you know we're adopted sons he's the only begotten son but we're the adopted sons we're also the bride of Christ okay so sometimes these relationships you can't take it too far okay because we're not literally marrying Christ like I would like I married my wife you know we're not all women okay so it's kind of like that that representation but it's showing a picture there that we're married to him and dealing with the fact of salvation and you think of that that picture of marriage how we we basically you know the old man died right and that's the only way did you get remarried right you know after death and then and then we marry we were married to Christ and there that pictures in Romans and all that stuff so anyway I I don't think anybody would get tripped up on that but I just know you know with the modalist stuff that's out there they're gonna be like see you know Jesus the Son of Man said son therefore that makes him the father okay but it all goes back into that he was called the everlasting father he's not the father and the person the father but he was speaking on his behalf okay now going back to Matthew chapter 9 in verse 9 there and it says and as Jesus passed forth from thence he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the receipt of custom and he saith unto him follow me and he arose and followed him now this is the Matthew that I believe wrote Matthew okay so this is where Matthew comes into the picture okay and so obviously before this Matthew's not in that picture as far as what Jesus is doing with his disciples so I don't believe that you know he had the twelve disciples like immediately when he started his ministry he was picking him up as he went but go to Luke chapter 5 because there's gonna be some more information about Matthew and actually Matthew has another name and so in Luke chapter 5 and verse 27 and we'll see some other information that ties into the story that's gonna follow here so Luke chapter 5 verse 27 it says and after these things he went forth and saw a publican named Levi sitting at the receipt of custom and he said unto him follow me and he left left all rose up and followed him so now we see Levi and say well that's a contradict no it's just a he has two names John Mark I mean a lot of these guys were actually I don't want to steal my Thunder because obviously in the next chapter we're dealing with the twelve disciples that are named off and a lot of them have different names okay or they use different names I mean Simon Peter I mean just different names some names were given to them and all this other stuff and so Levi's just another name that that Matthew has maybe he had a middle name you know Matthew Levi I don't know but all I have to say is that he's called Levi he's also called Matthew and but it also says that he's a publican now this is important because what comes next in the story and in Matthew we don't see this but in Matthew it looks like he just goes into a house he's actually going into Levi's house he's going into Matthew's house and Matthew and Levi here it's a notice what it says in verse 29 and Levi made him a great feast in his own house and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down with them so when the Pharisees are gonna start rebuking Jesus for this Matthew's one of the people that he's rebuking him for sitting with okay it's actually Matthew's house okay he's the one that made the feast but he's also a publican so you can see why it what it says in verse 30 says but there but there scribes Pharisees murmured against his disciples saying why do you eat and drink with publicans and sinners and Jesus answering said unto them they that are whole need not a physician but they that are sick I came not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance so basically he's he's you know the publicans he's eating and drinking with publicans and sinners now I don't believe that say that we're dealing with like murderers and all this we're dealing with publicans okay so these are obviously not the the best people in the world but this comes out to you know when it says that he's calling sinners to repentance I believe you're not necessarily talking about salvation you're dealing with the fact that you're dealing with the prodigal son type of deal when you look at those passages Luke 15 is all about this okay talking about leaving the 99 sheep to go after the one sheep that that flood you know that that went astray and talking about sinners coming under repentance or the prodigal son those are all saved you know they're already a sheep they're already a son and so what you're dealing with here is that Matthew he says follow me now if he wasn't saved yet would that make sense to say come follow me you know you get saved eventually but come on go ahead and follow me listen following Christ happens after you get saved okay and so in this passage I do believe you are dealing with it could be believers but what it comes down to is that even in church there has to be some kind of grace meaning that let's say someone gets saved they come into church you got to give them a chance to at least clean up let's say they were in a grievous and let's say they were in a 1st Corinthians chapter 5 sin okay you know it's like as soon as they come through that door you're out you know like like you're in a baseball game or something like that you're out get out the door you know like what this means is that there has to be some chance for them to at least see that they they have a problem does that make sense like if you were to if let's say we we want a whole bunch of people Christ and they all had like each one of them had like a sin that would be worthy of being kicked out of church you know let them come to church and let's preach on it let's deal with it you know if I have to I'll talk to them personally stuff like that but you know give them a chance give them a chance to repent does that make sense it's not this like let's throw them out immediately type of thing now obviously if it comes down to they're just like no I'm gonna still live with my girlfriend no I'm still gonna be an extortioner no I'm still gonna do this or that then obviously at that point you know 1st Corinthians 5 we needed you know they need to be cast out trying to reconcile them all that stuff but one of the biggest cases when it comes to church discipline I think of the story of Jezebel and Revelation and it's Jesus that I gave her space to repent and she was in some really grievous sins okay now I think it's up to the pastor to judge how much space now space is not years okay I'm just gonna be honest with you it's not gonna be it's not gonna be that long okay but what I'm saying is that it may be it may be a few a couple weeks and maybe a few weeks and it may be something that you know it just depends on the situation how much a person if someone's that been a Christian all their life and then they come in here have that problem that's different than someone just got saved and has no idea what the Bible says about anything does that make sense so there's gonna be different circumstances but what it comes down to is you know having mercy you know having mercy on on those you know on sinners you know that are saved and yes we do need to tow the line when it comes to in the church and keeping it clean keeping it pure getting 11 out right but we also need to have a little bit of grace a little bit of mercy when it comes to some of these things and some of these things could be things that aren't even things to be kicked out for right some people may have problems or they have issues or let's say someone's smoking or something like that I have an issue smoking obviously I'm against smoking you know and I don't want my kids to think that that's good and stuff like that you know what I mean but that's not a 1st Corinthians 5 case where I'm gonna kick someone out for that okay so you got to have mercy and all that and that's where it comes down to in verse 13 of Matthew 9 actually I wanted to hit this first because this is something that just came out about vaccines this is a great verse when it comes to vaccination okay let me let me take a commercial break on on what I think about vaccines and people forcing you to take vaccines it says they that are holding me not a physician but they that are sick okay now first of all I don't care if vaccines did the job every time and there and there was no repercussions to it there was no adverse effects the government should never be forcing you to put anything into your body you know this whole argument that the government should have any saying this is ridiculous okay second of all vaccines all of them have a risk of adverse effects whether you believe it causes autism or not every single vaccine has the potential of having adverse effects whether it be death whether it be I mean it's like any drug that you would take you have the the risk and I remember when Holly and I we were talking to the doctors we were talking about how we didn't want to give Claire you know the MMR and these different things and stuff like that and and you know the doctor was nice you know you know our pediatrician hasn't pushed us on this okay because some doctors are just like we're calling CPS you know and all this garbage so anyway all that to say is that you know when it comes down to it he was saying well I give it you know I wouldn't give it to your child unless I gave it to mine and change the cost of tea in China to me okay but here's the thing is that I said could you I said unless you can guarantee me that there's no chance that something would happen to my child and no doctor is ever going to give you that guarantee because they know they can't and millions upon millions of dollars have been spent out by our government for children that been hurt by vaccines okay and so you know I haven't preached a whole sermon on vaccinations and all that stuff but when it comes down to this you know my my my thought process is this right here if you're not sick you don't need a physician and you know I'm not against parents that vaccinate you know what I mean and when it comes down to is that as a parent you have to weigh out what you think is best for your child it's not the state's problem it's not the state's prerogative it's not the government and listen if if my child gets the measles and dies from the measles then it's on me that I didn't take a precautionary step okay but I'm taking that risk okay I'd rather take the risk of them getting the measles or having that problem then putting some substance into them that potentially wouldn't even you know she may never get the measles but then that ends up giving her some autoimmune problem or you know just the horror stories that you hear and listen you say well you know it's a small percentage yeah but it's still a percentage and maybe that could be your child would you can you live with yourself and the government doesn't give a rip about your children and then and if you listen if you think that the government cares about your children then I need to do a whole sermon on being gullible okay I was in the past there's a sermon on being gullible you know it was a good one but all I have to say is that every time I read this passage I think of vaccinations I don't know I don't know maybe just because that's what's in our day today but I automatically think about vaccinations and the fact that you know it's like the flu they're constantly you go to the to the you know to the CVS or something like that they're like have you got your flu shot no stop asking me I don't want the flu shot I haven't had a flu in like years right so and in that one so shoddy as it is like half the time they don't have the right strand so you're just putting something into your body that won't help at all you know so then you're just taking a risk for no reason so anyway advertisement on why you know what I think about all this stuff that's going on with the backs vaccinations and all that stuff anyway I gotta get I gotta get to this point so Matthew chapter 9 and verse 10 I think another sermon idea is coming up in my head Matthew 9 verse 10 is where we get to the story in in this but I'm sorry verse 13 is what I wanted to get to it says but but go ye and learn what that meaneth I will have mercy and not sacrifice for I'm not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance so the mercy aspect now Hosea chapter 6 and verse 6 go to Hosea chapter 6 and verse 6 because when Jesus says this learn what that meaneth it's probably a reason you should probably go back and see what he's talking about okay because notice what you're dealing with here you're dealing with publicans and sinners that Jesus is eating with that are probably believers okay I would say Matthew is definitely a believer right describes the Pharisees are not believers but yet they're more righteous but you have saved and lost what's what there's a big difference there but he says you know I have mercy and not sacrifice is interesting because in Hosea chapter 6 and verse 6 it says for I desired mercy and not sacrifice and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings isn't that interesting you know the fact that you know God that you're a believer that you have knowledge of God and in Jeremiah chapter 9 I think about this passage to when it says he that glorious let him glory in the Lord it's calling you back to Jeremiah chapter 9 where this is actually quoted from because what does that mean it's kind of like I'll have mercy and not sacrifice he says learn what that means mean have the knowledge of God that's better than burnt sacrifices is knowing God but also when it says he that glorious let him glory in the Lord what does it mean by that well in Jeremiah chapter 9 verse 23 it says thus set the Lord let not the wise man glory in his wisdom neither let the mighty man glory in his might but not the rich man glory in his riches but let him that glories glory in this that he understandeth and knoweth me that I am the Lord which exercises loving kindness judgment and righteousness in the earth for in these things I delight set the Lord so it's always good to go back to that and it's interesting he's like go learn what that means you know go look that up is what he's basically telling them to do you know and it's kind of like have you not read where he gets into that later on as well with the Pharisees because Kyle you look at it and you're like they're judging these publicans and sinners but doesn't it say in Matthew chapter 21 that the publicans and sinners you know the publicans repented the hedge on the Baptist and you when you saw it repented not that you should believe on him you know and it goes into that whole aspect and that's what I believe you could even be calling back to there but Matthew chapter 9 and verse 14 we get into this this this little it's kind of like a parable he's putting here a little bit but this whole new cloth old garment discussion that Jesus has he has here and I've heard people say different things about this and sometimes I think when you see new and old the the first inclination is old and New Testament okay you can't always do that okay old doesn't always mean like we're talking about the Old Testament or new doesn't mean we're talking about New Testament and I'll tell you why you know and I'll show you what I believe this is talking about so in Matthew 9 verse 14 it says then came to him the disciples of John saying why do we in the Pharisees fast off but that disciples fast not so notice the question is saying why are we fasting but your disciples are not fasting so one's fasting one's not fasting okay and notice what Jesus says it says in verse 15 and Jesus said unto them can the children of the bridegroom I'm sorry can the children of the bride chamber mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them but the days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken from them and then shall they fast so he's not saying they'll never fast okay but he's saying you know it's kind of just on the surface what is he saying why would they fast if I'm here you know now there's going to come a time when they will fast when I'm taken away you know and so it's basically saying there's a time to fast there's a time not to fast okay and then he goes into this whole discussion with new wine old bottles new cloth old cloth and it says no man putteth a piece of new cloth on an old garment for that which is put in to fill it up take it from the garment and the rent is made worse neither do men put new wine into old bottles else the bottles break and the wine runneth out and the bottles perish but they put new wine into new bottles and both are preserved so what what's he saying here sometimes don't look too far into what he's saying all he's saying is that it makes you don't you don't put things that are opposite with each other okay meaning like new with old those are opposite right and Ecclesiastes 3 is where I think where he's going out with this okay meaning that there's a time to mourn and there's a time not to mourn okay because that's what he's they're saying you know can the the children of the bride chamber mourn while the bride groom is with them and so he's basically saying it's not a time to mourn but there will be a time to mourn does that make sense and so it comes into the fact that you know like loving something that you shouldn't love or hating something that you shouldn't hate right there's a time to hate there's a time to love but don't do it in the wrong time right you have to have discernment as far as when you're supposed to mourn when you're supposed to rejoice right and that's what he's kind of explained to him is like it's like putting a new piece of cloth on an old garment that's how ridiculous it is or putting new wine into old bottles so he's kind of given an illustration as far as why it's out of place it's just not in it's not it's not what you're supposed to be doing but Ecclesiastes chapter 3 and verse 1 it says to everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heavens so I believe what he's doing is he's calling back and giving an example of Ecclesiastes chapter 3 but this but in his example and what he's answering is fasting right and we don't see fasting here but basically you put fasting in here say there's a time to fast and there's a time not to fast right but in this passage it says a time to be born a time to die a time to plant and time to pluck up that which is planted a time to kill in a time to heal a time to break down a time to build up a time to weep and a time to laugh a time to mourn and a time to dance isn't that what we're dealing with you know he's saying how can we mourn why the you know bridegroom is with us and it goes on and obviously it ends with a time to love it and a time to hate a time of war and a time of peace and it's kind of like I think I appreciate a pretty little sermon I was actually at Friendship Baptist Church about not shedding blood and blood the blood of war and time of peace when I talked about Joab how he killed Abner and he killed a Mesa but he killed them in a time of peace so it was wrong right so now normally when they were in when they were in battle together if he would have killed Abner that would have been fine right but it was out of place and therefore he was judged for that because he killed Abner when they were in peace they were they had a truce they weren't at war okay so there's a time of war there's a time of peace there's a time to kill him there's a time to heal the time to love time to hate so you had to put it all in the right place and so don't put it out of place but in Romans chapter 12 verse 15 it says rejoice with them that do rejoice and weep with them that weep okay so it's kind of like if you're at a funeral you don't just go in there and just be like let's party okay now obviously want to try to uplift people okay but you've got to be there with them in that okay I'm not saying you can't laugh at a funeral but what I'm saying is that you need to be still in the morning state with them okay and keep the laughter you know don't go crazy with your laughter okay you don't come in there like all jovial like nothing's wrong okay and so same thing if someone's rejoicing don't be negative Nancy okay don't be Debbie downer you know when you put everybody's just having a good time you're like oh what was me you know I had a horrible week it's like well thanks for that we were having a good time until you came in here so I believe that's what it's talking about here okay and I don't believe it's talking about old and new one big reason is when you look in another passage it talks about old and new wine it says the old is better well we know the New Testament is better so that doesn't work out very well does it okay so anyway but go back to Matthew chapter 9 Matthew chapter 9 and verse 18 we see the story so there's two things going on in this this kind of a story here is that it starts off with this ruler J Iris which doesn't name him here but we'll see you know and Luke and the other story names who he is but then in the midst of that this woman that has the issue of blood for 12 years is getting healed and then it comes to her so it's kind of like it starts off with the one and then in the middle it's dealing with someone else and it comes back to it okay so Matthew chapter 9 and verse 18 it says while he spake these things unto them behold there came a certain ruler and worshiped him saying my daughter is even now dead but come and lay thy hand upon her and she shall live and Jesus arose and followed him and so did his disciples now go to Luke chapter 8 and verse 41 Luke chapter 8 and verse 41 just so you can see him some more information as far as what this guy's name is and we actually get a little more information about his daughter too in verse 41 of Luke chapter 8 it says behold there came a man named J Iris and he was a ruler of the synagogue so we see not only his name but also that he wasn't just a ruler because in the other places just said a certain ruler but he's the ruler of its synagogue and he fell down at Jesus feet and besought him that he would come into his house and he had one only daughter about 12 years of age and she lay a dying but as he went went the people thronged him okay and it goes into the story as well what went there but now we see that it's only his only daughter and she's 12 years old and so that's interesting I find that interesting because how long did this woman have the issue of blood 12 years I don't know what the significance but that is but I just wanted to mention that meaning that this this girl that's going to get raised from the dead it you know basically as long as she's been alive is this woman had that issue of blood ok so as you read down in Matthew chapter 9 dealing with the woman that was to see with the issue of blood so in verse 20 of Matthew chapter 9 it says behold a woman which was diseased with an issue of blood 12 years came behind him and touched the hem of his garment for she said within herself if I may but touch his garment I shall be behold but Jesus turned him about when he saw her he said daughter be of good comfort thy faith hath made thee whole and the woman was made whole from that hour now interesting that faith has made the whole and he calls her daughter and so saying kind of the same thing that we saw at the beginning of the chapter dealing with he saw their faith he says son thy sins be forgiven thee why because of the faith that that that that they had other passages it talks about how you know all these people are he's like where it talks about virtue went out of him he's like who touched me I always find it hilarious because the disciples like all these people are thronging and you're saying who touched you like everybody's touch you you know and obviously he's pointing out that there's someone that got healed but as you keep reading there with with how he ends up healing the daughter the only daughter of Jairus if I can get that out but it says in verse 23 it says when Jesus came into the rulers house and saw the minstrels and the the people making a noise he said unto them give place for the maid is not dead but sleepeth and they they laughed him to scorn but when the people were put forth he went in and took her by the hand and the maid arose and the fame hereof went abroad into all the land and so and you can look at this too you know it says she's not dead but sleepeth you know when it talks about Lazarus it says Lazarus sleepeth and it's talking about how he's dead but you think about this she's not dead because save people aren't dead you know but those that sleep in Christ you know talking about the body's dead right so we as Christians don't really ever die you know it obviously we have everlasting life so you know if you ask for the bodies to be present with the Lord but even our body I you know it's dead but but Jesus is saying it's just sleeping why because it's gonna arise all that this day that sleep in the dust they're gonna raise up so that's why it kind of likens the body being dead to sleep this isn't soul sleep okay you know that's a weird doctrine it's not biblical but but anyway as we move on here we're dealing with another two men that he heals are these two blind men so in Matthew chapter 9 and verse 27 it says and when Jesus departed thence two blind men followed him crying saying thou son of David have mercy on us and when he was coming to the house the blind men came to him and Jesus saith unto them believe ye that I am able to do this they said unto him yea Lord then touched he their eyes saying according to your faith be it unto you and their eyes were opened and Jesus straightly charged them saying see that no man know it but they when they were departed spread abroad his fame into all that country so it's kind of like with a the man with a legion you know it's like don't tell anybody about this and then he spread it abroad everybody so in the and obviously these men did the same thing but there's something just interesting now this is a physical basically he's being healed you know they're being healed of blindness right but you can definitely see the spiritual application when you're dealing with salvation because notice what Jesus says it believe that I am able to do this and they said yea Lord and he says according to your faith you know be it unto you and so I see the calling on the name of the Lord but I also see the fact that what are you believing that he's able to do what he said you do being fully persuaded that what he had promised he was able also to perform right so you can definitely see that picture of you know calling on the name of the Lord and you know asking you shall receive and a lot of times you know there's this there's another story about a blind man is like what what will you do what do you want me to do for you it's like it's obvious hey you know I'm blind you know but but he still wants you to ask right he knows what you need right he knows before you ask what you need he knows that everybody needs to get saved it's not like he's like man I didn't know you needed to get saved you know so he's obviously knows that but he wants you to he wants you to pull the trigger he wants you to ask for it you know he wants you to believe on him and so but I just thought that was interesting on like how that there's a good little picture there of salvation but Matthew chapter 9 and verse 32 Matthew chapter 9 verse 32 he casts out a dumb spirit so it's interesting some of these cases you know like some people are blind but they're not possessed but then some people are possessed and they have like like they can't hear or they can't speak and and so it's kind of interesting on how sometimes that works so just because someone is blind doesn't mean they're possessed okay just because someone can't speak doesn't mean they're possessed and you know or they're deaf they're not it doesn't necessarily mean they're possessed but I do believe this stuff is still around okay I preach a whole sermon on being possessed with devils and how that's still around obviously a believer can never be possessed because greater is he that is in you than he is in the world but I'm believers I obviously it could still happen but in Matthew chapter 9 and verse 32 it says as they went out behold they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil and when the devil was cast out the dumb spake and the multitudes marveled saying it was never so seen in Israel but the Pharisee said he cast without devils through the prince of the devil's blasphemy against the Holy Ghost we haven't got there yet but Matthew 12 it's gonna restate this as far as they're saying that he he cast out devils with with Satan himself right is it Beelzebub so obviously they're blaspheming him there but in another passage which I'm not gonna read the passage but in mark 9 you see another place where he he casts out this dumb and deaf spirit out of a man and it was the one that you know his disciples couldn't cast him out and all this stuff and this is where Jesus famously says unto that that man it says if thou can't believe all things are possible in him that believe it so it's not just in John we're talking about believing okay how many times did you say faith faith believe is thou that you could do this you know and we're in Matthew okay now obviously John's the most clear right that's where you're gonna have the John 3 16 the John 3 36 the John 5 24 you're gonna have all those great verses that are unequivocal right but even in all these stories you're gonna see faith like faith that may be whole and in some places it even says only believe you know and it's like just very clear that it had nothing to do with the works did any of these people do any good works no I mean these people are just coming up to them and he's healing them it's grace it's faith you know it's great these are physical salvations the picture the true salvation right in some of these cases I believe they're getting saved spiritually as well but in some of these cases they may have already been saved but they had an infirmity now obviously the devil one that wasn't someone I was saved before that right but what I'm saying is that sometimes you are just dealing with a physical you know healing there but but as we are looking at the end of the chapter here in Matthew chapter 9 and verse 35 this is a great soul winning passage here but in in Matthew chapter 9 verse 35 it says and Jesus went about all the cities and villages teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every sickness and every disease among the people amen to that it says but when he saw the multitudes he was moved with compassion on them because they fainted and were scattered abroad as sheep having no Shepherd then Seth he unto his disciples the harvest truly is plenteous but the labors are few pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that he will send for labors into his harvest and so that's how we we end the chapter there with with this awesome passage dealing with labors and the harvest but notice that he was going around preaching the gospel of the kingdom and I've already preached on this the gospel of kingdom is the same gospel okay it's the everlasting gospel it's the gospel of Paul it's the gospel of Christ the gospel it's the gospel okay there's no difference but he's going around preaching this but then he was moved with compassion and of some have compassion making a difference and others save with fear pulling them out of the fire hating even the garments spotted by the flesh you know we need to have compassion when it comes to the lost when it comes to those that need to get saved and it's really showing us that hey the harvest is plenteous but the labors are few and we know that to be true how many people are actually out soul-winning I haven't run into him yet I've not yet run into a soul-winner that's not of our church you know or a church that I attended at the time you know like a church when I was at a manual you know I never ran into other soul winners I just ran into heretics you know like you know witnesses or Mormons or something like that and so that tells me that the labors are few not many people are doing it and so I go to Luke chapter 10 because this same phrase is mentioned but notice what's being done before it says this phrase now in Matthew 9 you're dealing with Jesus preaching the gospel he's going into the cities and villages and into the synagogues and he's preaching the gospel the kingdom well Luke 10 you're dealing with actually the 70 men that he sent out so first he sends out his 12 two by two but then he sends out the 70 but in this case he mentions this and I believe this is a mention he mentions over and over again okay so that I don't believe this is like in timeline as far as Matthew 9 but nowhere did it say that he only said this once okay meaning that he's pricing this over and over again to them as far as the fact they need to go soul winning but in Luke 10 verse 1 it says after these things the Lord appointed other 70 also and sent them to and to before his face into every city and place whether he himself would come so first of all you see you know why do we go to two by two right here he sent him to and to he did the same thing with the 12 and he sent him into every city and place okay so go you into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature so we're gonna go everywhere but notice that it says whether he himself would come so Jesus didn't just say go out and do this he did it himself and so he he's the the greatest leader when it comes to soul winning when it comes to anything you know Jesus is we need to be following his steps in every way but notice what it says in verse 2 it says therefore said he unto them so notice says therefore said he unto them right so what's he they send them two by two into every city and it says the harvest truly is great but the labors are few pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that he would send forth labors into his harvest go your ways behold I send you forth as lambs among wolves and so that's what what what we're dealing with with soul winning maybe that's because we're going out meek we're going out as lambs you know when we go out soul winning that's not where I'm gonna rip face you know that's for the house of God that's for the pulpit you know now don't get me wrong if I ran into a heretic or something like that or I was I had to rebuke someone sharply you know so that others would fear that's a different case but when it comes to soul winning that's what you should be avoiding that right you should be avoiding the heretics in one one or two madam in admonitions and reject them and get on your way right if you're if you're throwing down on somebody you're not really being that productive okay you'd be more productive giving the gospel to somebody we go to John chapter 4 John chapter 4 is another place that deals with this harvest okay meaning that the harvest truly is great but then you may say well when do we go you know when do we go out soul winning whenever you can you know there's no there's no like time not to go now obviously you're not gonna go at midnight and start knocking on someone's door okay that's not what I'm talking about okay what I'm talking about is like you're not gonna say well when I'm you know such-and-such age or when I got this in order when I got that in order no listen we need to go now we need to go as soon as we can and as often as we can but in John chapter 4 verse 34 Jesus said unto them my need is to do the will of him that sent me and to finish his work say not ye there are yet four months and then cometh harvest behold I say unto you lift up your eyes and look unto the fields for they are white already to harvest and he that reapeth receiveth wages and gathers fruit unto life eternal that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together and here and is that saying true at one soweth and another reapeth I sent you to reap that whereon you bestowed no labor other men labored and ye are entered into their labors so it's talking about basically there's this big harvest has been going on listen when you got saved when we get went out when you started going out so winning it's not like you're the first one that did it okay meaning that this has been going on since the beginning of time okay we're just going we're just jumping into it okay it's like this trains been going okay it's just like get on and so that's what he's saying he's like you're jumping into other men's labors why because the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith you know if no one was so winning before you then you didn't get saved okay how did you get saved so you're jumping into the train just like we are and so just get in the harvest is ripe the harvest is white on the harvest it's ready to go all you need to do is just get in there and start picking unless it says the labors are few it's not gonna be hard meaning that there's not a shortage you know you're not out there like man there's not there's not enough people to win there's there's infinite I mean listen the doors open I mean it's kind of like if you just had like a cornfield over there and you're just like all right go over there and pick it it's like no one else is there so you could just start picking everything as you want and so that's the way we need to look at it and listen you know he that goes forth and weepeth bearing precious seed shall doubtless come again with rejoicing bringing his sheaves with him and so it's gonna happen you're going to reap when that when the harvest is that plenty is and the labors are that few meaning that the demand you know for labors is so high that you know there's just a surplus you know it's kind of like if there's just too much of the product and not enough people to get it it's gonna be overflowing and so about when you're dealing with that you're dealing with going into other men's labors but you're also dealing with the fact that some some so and some reap meaning that there's some people that so the word but they don't get the reap at that point and you know I want to look at first Corinthians 3 just to show you this meaning that don't get you should never get discouraged if like let's say you gave the gospel to somebody they didn't get saved and then someone else gives them the gospel and then they do get saved okay don't get discouraged I'd be like oh man I wanted to win them okay listen you get a reward just as much as that person that won them okay meaning that don't look at it as I you should just be glad they got saved okay it shouldn't really matter who won them or who got to pray the prayer with them okay because there are cases where you know I've worked on somebody I've given the gospel over and over I tear down all these walls and I tore down all these arguments and they're just like right on the cusp and then that someone you know one of my friends will talk to him and like for like two minutes and they're like yeah I'm ready to get saved okay now think about that who labored more with that now it doesn't mean that the person that ended up winning them you know as far as praying with them didn't labor a little bit but you got to look at it as like the amount of labor it's not necessarily like in the end if they got one they got one but then there's there's different rewards based off your labor okay and and even if you don't win somebody I do believe you're gonna get rewarded for your labor it's kind of like if you worked in the field you still worked you still tried you still toiled but in 1st Corinthians chapter 3 verse 5 it says who then is Paul and who's a Paulist but ministers by whom he believed even as the Lord gave to every man I I have planted a Paulist watered but God gave the increase so he's showing kind of like you know planning within the ones watering it's kind of the same thing as sowing and the other ones reaping it says so that neither is he that planteth anything neither he that waters but God that giveth the increase now that doesn't mean that there's you're not thing but it's just meaning that the most important thing is that God's that God's given the increase they're getting saved right but notice what says in verse 8 it says now he that planteth and he that waterth are one meaning that it's not you know if you're reaping if you're not any better than the person that was laboring with that and watering it and all that stuff does that make sense okay you're not any better or worse or anything like that but notice what it says right after that says and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own what labor we are laborers together with God you're God's husbandry you're God's building okay so I don't think anybody's getting bogged down with this and these are getting upset if someone won somebody or whatever but it's kind of like we go out so wanting sometimes and we have the you know the silent partner or stuff like that and you know I've had the cases where you know you're getting the gospel and they just they're just not ready to pull the trigger but then you're like silent partner we'll just kind of jump in and say something it's like that just clicked with them for some reason okay and then they lead him in a prayer listen you're both in there on that okay it's not like the person that just jumped in there just had the great illustration that that won him over it's like well they got the reward you lost it all you know like that's not how it works okay meaning that and I do believe that the silent partner is still gonna reward for being there and praying and being that silent partner and doing the job of a silent partner okay each each person is gonna be rewarded according to his own labor okay so but also in 2nd Corinthians 5 it talks about knowing therefore the terror of the Lord we persuade men you know obviously you know what's the big what's the big motivating factor you know for going so wanting is because we know that if they don't get saved you're going to hell and so obviously we love we want we want to for the love of people we don't want to see him go to hell but but this is a great passage that's obviously a great thing to remember Jesus compassion for the lost and the fact that he knows that there's so many people that need to get saved and we need to constantly be thinking about that as far as how many people and listen a lot of you have been soul winning for a while now and you can probably remember that person that was just ready to get saved and just when you got there they were just eating it up and they were just so glad you got there just remember there's nothing there's others out there like that you want motivation just remember that there's someone out there that is just wanting you to give them the gospel and is waiting for you and you know where you go you know and so it's just always remember that that's why experience is such a good thing meaning that if you didn't go soul winning you never know that you never know that there actually are people out there that are just wanting you to come knock on their door and give them the gospel so that's it with the word prayer daily father well we thank you for this evening and pray that you'd help us all to feel better I know a lot of people aren't feeling well and feeling under the weather but also I just pray that you would you'd give us safe travels and Lord I pray to be with Holly and I as we travel out west and Lord just pray to you bring us back safely as well and Lord we love you we thank you for your word and we pray all this in Jesus Christ's name amen
