It's not Wednesday Just some church announcements pretty much everything that was this morning applies this evening as well So all the church times are normal this week and then sewing times Don't forget about the regional sewing times on Monday and Wednesday, and then as I'm thinking about that What we have for salvation's this week, I know we kind of had some throughout the week Was there one on went and Monday, and then you had one yesterday or something like that Not on not a not our not on Monday. I'm sorry Wednesday One yesterday, and then what we have today, I know I know your your guys's group had to was there any others One Three and okay at the trip where you got one up to up to Timberline So and you got and you guys have one and one so that's six for today And then two during the week so eight total So good job with the sewing We're a little down from last week We had 144 last week, so let's step up your game But but that's good Actually the last all of February we had 14 one week than 8 8 and 144 obviously for purposes of the mission trip and then 8 this week, so Kind of staying around that range, which is awesome, so That keep up the good work with the soul winning and then our chapter memory For the month Colossians chapter 2 so I know some of us are diving into that if you're still in chapter 1 Just keep plugging away at that You will not regret chapter 1 or memorizing chapter 1 And then and then just get to chapter 2 whenever you can so in this if you're going for The whole book then just kind of stick in and and wherever you're at no matter what month you're in just keep going forward with that Then Galatians 2 6 is our memory verse for the week, and we have The chili cook-off, so I think we've decided And we're not gonna have like separate judges, but we're gonna have everybody just vote And so we'll have to have an age restriction on that at some point. I guess right I mean at some point we got to have like some mark where because we don't be like You know like Lily should be able to vote, and you know like Bella and stuff like that so we got to have some kind of like some kind of age limits to where they can actually vote what think about that later, but We don't want to give it for these whole families kind of like win, so we'll sweep it You know because everybody vote for their own, but I'm pretty sure like every family pretty much is like making their own chili, so So whoever has more kids wins Anyway But Yeah, I don't know how else to really do it besides just the fact that I And we were talking about we like oh everybody's gonna vote for their spouse are they though I? Don't know I don't know about that so Anyway, it'll just be fun but It's gonna be a prize. We've been discussing this then a man wins They get a pair of Duluth pants If a woman if a woman If a woman wins then they get a dress not from Duluth, okay, we won't do that to you Well we'll figure out where obviously I have no idea where to buy a dress at that's like real nice or anything like that so So Anyway, that's gonna be the prize now obviously we won't order to the dress or the pants till the winner is declared But that's the incentive And if you don't like Duluth, then what are you doing here? I'm joking you don't have to wear Duluth But I think it'd be fun to have a prize and so If you're wondering who had the idea for Duluth as being the prize, you know well we all know who that is the greatest sales manager Brother Dave is the the number one sales manager for Duluth this year so That being said though we are gonna have we're gonna we're gonna have a prize For whoever wins, but we're gonna basically do a vote so whoever gets the most You know and they can be anonymous But the spouses will be like peering over there, you know to see who they're voting for But it should be fun. So that'll be this Saturday at 3 30. And so Hopefully as many people can make it out that it's possible And then we got the birthdays anniversaries and then just be in prayer for all the ladies on the pregnancy list here And then be in prayer for all the ladies in general or especially those that just had little ones And so just praise the Lord for all that About all got four announcements Yeah, that's it so birthday is gonna come and Sing one more song, but after he's done with that brother Shane, I believe yeah, brother Shane's gonna be reading Genesis chapter 25 for us Are you waiting for something All right, take your song books and turn to song number 96 Song number 96 in your song books. We'll have brother Shane come and read that for us Genesis chapter 25 if you found your place. Amen Then Again Abraham took a wife and her name was Keturah and she brought him Zimran and Jokshan and Medan and Midian and Ishbaq and Shuah and Jokshan begat Sheba and Dedan and the sons of Dedan were Ashurim and Letushim and Li'umim and the sons of Midian Epaph and Ephir and Hanuk and Ebedah and Eldiah all these were the children of Keturah and Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac but unto the sons of the concubines which Abraham had Abraham gave gifts and sent them away from Isaac his son while he yet lived Eastward into the East country and all these are the days of the years of Abraham's life, which he lived 103 score and 15 years then Abraham gave up the ghost and died in a good old age an old man and full of years and he was gathered to his people and his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Makbila in the field of Ephron and the son of Zoar the Hittite which is before Mamre the field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth There was Abraham buried and Sarah his wife and it came to pass after the death of Abraham that God blessed his son Isaac and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahora and Now these are the generations of Ishmael Abraham's son who whom Hagar the Egyptian Sarah's handmade bear on Abraham and these are the names of the sons of Ishmael by their names according to their generations the firstborn of Ishmael Nebajoth and Kedar and Abdiel and Mibshim and Mishma and Dumah and Massa and Hadar and Timah and Jeter and Naphish and Kedima, these are the sons of Ishmael and these are their names by their towns and by their castles twelve princes according to their nations and these are the years of the life of Ishmael a hundred and 37 years and he gave up the ghost and died and was gathered unto his people and they dwelt from Havilah and assure that is before Egypt as thou goest toward Assyria and he died in the presence of all his brethren and These are the generations of Isaac Abraham son Abraham begot Isaac and Isaac was 40 years old when he took Rebecca to wife the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Pateram the sister to Laban the Syrian and Isaac and treated the Lord for his wife because she was barren and the Lord was entreated of him and Rebecca his wife conceived and the children struggled together within her and she said if It be so why am I thus and she? went to inquire of the Lord and the Lord said unto her two nations are in thy womb and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bows and the one people shall be stronger than the other people and the elders shall serve the younger and When her days to be delivered were fulfilled behold there were twins in her womb and the first came out red all over Like a hairy garment and they called his name Esau and after that came his brother out and his hand took hold on Esau's heel and his name was called Jacob and Isaac was three score years old when she bare them and the boys grew and Esau was a cunning hunter and a man of the field and Jacob was a plain man dwelling in tents and Isaac loved Esau because he did eat of his venison but Rebecca loved Jacob and Jacob sawed pottage and Esau came from the field and he was faint and Esau said to Jacob feed me I pray thee with that same red pottage for I am faint therefore was his name called Edom and Jacob said sell me this day thy birthright and Esau said behold I am at the point to die at what profit shall this birthright do to me and Jacob said swear to me this day and he sware unto him and he sold his birthright unto Jacob Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils and he did eat and drink and rose up and went his way Thus Esau despised his birthright. Let us pray dear heavenly father. Lord. Thank you to be just gathered in your house tonight I just pray you fill pastor with your spirit I just pray we could learn from your word in Jesus name. Amen There in Genesis chapter 25 and we are continuing our study or our series through allegories of the New Testament or the New and Old Testament and we're gonna be jumping into Jacob and Esau so actually when it came to I'm sorry Isaac and Ishmael we kind of already hit that Because we had the one that where it literally states that the two covenants the allegory is with Hagar and Sarah and In that you kind of have Isaac and Ishmael So it's kind of talking about the mothers but then it's talking about the sons and so there's definitely that allegory So we that was the first one we ever hit and so we're kind of coming past that now We kind of went back before them with the allegories So we had Adam and Jesus obviously the first Adam the second or the last Adam And then we had Cain and Abel then you had Sarah and Hagar and then obviously Isaac and Ishmael representing the two covenants And then now we're getting into what I believe is an allegory as well Which is Jacob and Esau now I want to preface this that there's a lot more in here than I'm probably gonna be able to cover when it comes to the allegories here and I'm gonna try to hit as much as I can so, you know These could probably be more than one part when it comes to this as far as all the little pieces that you can see throughout Here the point of this is really just to show you that they would be an allegory and then you can kind of study that Out look at it and see all the different pieces and parts that would apply but what I want to focus on here is obviously where Jacob and Esau are born and Like I said when it comes to Jacob and Esau you can probably look at their lives past this and even see representations of this allegory as well So I don't Just not enough time to really get into every little piece there But in verse 21 there He says and Isaac and treated the Lord for his wife because she was barren and the Lord was entreated of him and Rebecca His wife conceived one thing I just kind of want to mention here is the fact that he was 40 years old It says in this passage when he got married and he was 60 years old when these children were born so that was a 20 year waiting period on having children and So I know some you know obviously are waiting to have shown I know people personally and even family that's waiting to have that want to have children and and Having trouble and stuff like that So there's a 20 year gap there where Isaac was waiting to have children and so I just want to kind of show that there that you know The Lord can open up a womb, you know 20 years later and all that obviously Somewhat point to be like well, they lived a little longer back then Still even if you looked at the amount of time that they lived compared to what we lived That's still a pretty decent amount of time. Even if you were to try to look at the ratio of it verse 22 there It says and the children struggled together within her and she said if it be if it be so Why am I thus and she went to inquire the Lord and the Lord said at her two nations are in thy womb And two manner of people shall be separated from thy vows And the one people shall be stronger than the other people and the elder shall serve the younger And when her days, I'm sorry when her days To be delivered were fulfilled behold there were twins in her womb so obviously that makes sense because there's two nations and And they're struggling it in the womb together there verse 25 it says in the first came out read all over like in hairy garment and they Called his name Esau and after that came his brother out and his hand took hold on Esau's heel His name was called Jacob and east and Isaac was three square years old when she bare Them and the boys grew and Esau was a cunning hunter a man of the field and Jacob was a plain man dwelling in tents And Isaac loved Esau because he did eat of his venison, but Rebecca loved Jacob Okay, so I kind of want to stop right there with the story with Jacob and Esau there to kind of get into this allegory First of all, we see here that Straight up in the story where they're born They they they're basically the two children are being represented as an allegory for two different nations I mean you see that clearly mentioned here is that you have two nations in verse 23 there two nations are in thy womb and Two manner of people shall be separated from thy vows now obviously Rebecca didn't give birth to like nations of people like physically. Okay, there was two children and like in and With these allegories, you're gonna see a lot of this where you're dealing with twins Okay, like I said, I believe Cain and Abel to be twins. This clearly states their twins. Okay they're gonna see another allegory later on when we get to it dealing with twins and it just really kind of shows you and I'll give brother Chris credit because he was talking to me about this where I was talking about there's one conception but two birds and the idea that you know when we're talking about this first testament and Second Testament or this Old Covenant New Covenant and the idea that you have the conception from the very beginning was to Okay, and the idea is from the very beginning. It was meant to be two is meant to be twins if you will and But obviously these stories are going to show you how it plays out and the oldest is always the one that comes first Obviously which is representing the first covenant the Old Covenant and then the second Twin is representing that New Covenant And so you kind of see these same things being represented throughout But hopefully as we go through here you kind of see different in each one of these allegories is kind of kind of highlight different aspects, right and So hopefully you kind of see that that there's different things that are kind of being brought to light about the difference between the first covenant and the second covenant But I go to Romans chapter 9 and reading this story here This should help Romans 9 make a lot of sense because a lot of Calvinists will go to Romans chapter 9 to try to say basically that That from that from the womb God elected someone to get saved Or they they chose someone to go to hell meaning this is that like basically Unconditional election is what they're trying to prove with this But what you have to understand is that when we're talking about Jacob and Esau in the story where they're born It's literally states that they're representing two nations and two manner of people Okay, so when you know that when you read Genesis 25 now when you go to Romans chapter 9 that should be in your mind Right that that's what these that's what Jacob and Esau represent two nations two different manner of people and then when you realize that it's like Oh, okay You know and it's even stating that these nations are going to be Separated from thy vows. I mean it's giving it to that point that from coming forth from her vows Are two different nations and manner of people So when you get the Romans chapter 9 and verse 6 here says not as though the Word of God had taken none effect For they are not all Israel which are of Israel neither because they are the seed of Abraham Are they all children but in Isaac shall I see be called that is they which are the children of the flesh? These are not the children of God but the children of the promise are counted for the seed now we kind of already saw that with Isaac and Ishmael and the idea That just because you're the seed of Abraham doesn't mean that you're of Isaac Okay But it says keep reading there in verse 9 there says for this is the word of promise at this time Well, I come and Sarah shall have a son and not only this but when Rebecca also had conceived by one even by our father Isaac for the children being not yet born Neither having done any good or evil that the purpose of God according to election might stand not of works But of him that calleth it was said unto her the elder shall serve the younger as it is written Jacob have I loved But Esau have I hated so these two phrases here the elder shall serve the younger Well, we just read that in Genesis chapter 25 go to Malachi chapter 1 Malachi chapter 1 because that other phrase Jacob Have I loved but Esau have I hated That's in Malachi So when you understand that the elder shall serve the younger that's not talking about the physical Jacob and the physical Esau It's talking about those two nations. Okay, because actually when you read through Genesis, you'll never see where Esau is is serving Jacob okay, you don't see that actually see the quite the opposite You'll see Jacob bowing down to him as he's walking towards him and giving him gifts So you don't actually see Esau the man serving Jacob the man but you do see the Edomites which is the nation that came forth from Esau serving Israel Okay, and being subject unto Israel you do see that and you do see that Israel is a stronger nation in the Bible than Edom Now when it comes to your in Malachi chapter 1 when it comes to Jacob and Esau I Thought about maybe like going on to different ones here because this one definitely is an allegory of the children of God and children of the devil Okay Meaning that Jacob and Esau Jacob have I loved but Esau have I hated Obviously if God hates you then you're a child of the devil Okay, and so you can definitely see that allegorical Item there, but I want to show you some where it's also allegorical for the Old Testament and New Testament. Okay And we kind of hit on that last week when we're dealing with Cain and Abel because Cain was up that wicked one Right, and so it's kind of the same thing where you can look at Cain and Abel It's like the children of God and children of the devil, but it also represents the first covenant and the second covenant Okay, now in Malachi chapter 1 and verse 1 it says the burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi I have loved you said the Lord Yet you say wherein hast thou loved us. What's not Esau Jacob's brother said the Lord yet? I love Jacob and I hated Esau and Laid his mountains and his heritage ways for the dragons of the wilderness now at first cup when you're looking at it You're like, okay. Did he hate the person he saw and you know and all that Well, look at verse 4 there whereas Edom said We are impoverished, but we will return and build a desolate places Thus said the Lord of hosts they shall build but I will throw down they shall call them the border of wickedness Notice this the people against whom the Lord hath indignation forever So we're talking about Jacob have I loved by Esau have I hated we talking about the person Esau and the person Jacob Are we talking about the nations? Okay, because sometimes the nation will be called the nation, you know, like it would just be like the the nation of Esau but Esau Jacob was given the name Israel and So the man Israel there was a person named Israel But then we usually when you think when you say Israel, you're usually thinking of the nation, right? same thing Esau was given the name Edom and The same thing applies there is the fact that he's given that name Edom But when you hear Edom, you're usually thinking of the nation of the Edomites, okay, you're not thinking of the man So that being said is that when you see Jacob have I loved by Esau I hate you could be saying you could say it this way Israel have I loved but Edom have I hated and you're dealing with the same thing Okay, because as it's this in the in the the character, it's the same character But also with the nation is the same nation and sometimes God will even talk to the nation of Israel and call him Jacob Okay Or it'll talk to the nation of Edom and call me Esau, you know that happens in the Bible So that being said is that when you understand that we're talking about nations here and you know The elder shall serve the younger that's talking about the nation of Israel nation of Edom when you're talking about Jacob Have I loved but Esau have I hated that's talking about the nation of Israel and the nation of of Edom and so that being said is that That helps you understand first of all Romans chapter 9 But it also shows you that even from the beginning when they're born they're used as an allegory I don't think you can get around that. Okay, I think it's very clear that Since Jacob have I loved by Esau have I hated he's talking about children of God children of the devil. Okay What I thought about actually Which is kind of a different allegory was Noah and his three sons because you know What we're seeing here is like twins or two different sons and like or just two different people representing Obviously these covenants and I can see someone saying like well, you know, well Noah had three sons and you know There's your three covenants But that's another summer for another day, but I I do think there is an allegory there But I think it's more so dealing with the fact that in this world you have children of God and you have children of devil But you also have just unsaved people Okay, so you kind of think of Shem being the children of God Ham being the children of the devil and Japheth just being like unsaved children of disobedience children of wrath Another sermon for another day not preaching that right now But I do think that there is an allegory that would be applying there now go to Deuteronomy chapter 32, Deuteronomy chapter 32 Deuteronomy chapter 32 now dealing with This allegory of Jacob and Esau says Jacob have I love Esau I have I hate it and it's stating in Malachi that with Esau or Edom It says that he had indignation with them forever Okay, and he hates them. Okay Okay, let's let's stay along that line there and see okay What does the Bible teach about this now Deuteronomy 32 and verse 15 Okay, Deuteronomy 32 verse 15 because what I'm gonna submit to you is that I believe Esau would represent the physical nation of Israel That was rejected You know that first covenant is rejected. It's not regarded, right? It's rejected of God and the kingdom of God is taken from them and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits They're up. Okay, just right up in front. That's what I'm trying to get across here. Okay, you're dealing with two different nations He's taking it from that nation rejecting them Okay, and he's giving it to a nation bringing forth the fruits they're up Okay, the elder shall serve the younger and you know, Jacob have I love but Esau have I hate it So when you're dealing with Esau in this allegory of like the first covenant new covenant or the first covenant second covenant You're dealing with the fact of a nation of Israel That Esau would represent that does that make sense that the physical nation of Israel that was in that first covenant That's Esau just as much as in the allegory of in Galatians chapter 4 the physical nation of Israel is Hagar and Ishmael It doesn't make sense. Where is obviously that physical nation of Israel we know come from You know Isaac and down that line, but spiritually speaking They are Ishmael. They are Hagar spiritually speaking. They're Esau Okay, that's what I'm getting across here is that those that were of Israel in that first covenant they are Esau and notice it says in Deuteronomy chapter 32 because this is talking about the children of Israel right here in Deuteronomy 32 and verse 15 But Jeshurun waxed fat and kicked Thou art wax and fat thou art grown thick thou art covered with fatness Then he forsook God which made him and lightly esteemed the rock of his salvation They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods with abominations provoked a him to anger They sacrificed them to devils not to God to gods whom they knew not to new gods that came newly up whom your fathers feared not of the of the rock that begat thee thou art Unmindful and has forgotten God that formed thee and when the Lord saw it he abhorred them. Do you see that right there? He abhorred them now. That's another word for hate. Okay, it Says because of the provoking of his sons and of his daughters. He said I will hide my face from them I will see what their end shall be for they are a very froward generation notice this Children in whom is no faith Now I want you to remember that line right there children in whom is no faith Okay, and that God abhors them and that he's hiding his face from them. Okay verse 21 They have moved me to jealousy with that with that which is not God They have provoked me to anger with their vanities and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation For a fire is kindled in mine anger and shall burn to the lowest hell and shall consume the earth with her increase and set On fire the foundations of the mountains now that last verse right there really didn't I didn't have to read that But that is the first mention of hell right there And we are dealing with people that he abhors people have no faith and He's gonna provoke this nation to jealousy Does that sound familiar because that's quoted in the New Testament go to Romans chapter 10 Romans chapter 10 What nation is he going to provoke them remember this this this allegory of Esau and Jacob is what two nations one stronger than the other The younger is stronger okay, and there's two nations and That he's gonna Anger him with a foolish nation meaning this is that you're dealing with the Gentile nation the heathen nation, right? meaning you're dealing with the Gentiles that he's going to provoke them to anger and notice it says in Romans chapter 10 verse 17 So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God The reason I bring this up is because we're dealing with children that have not faith that have no faith Okay, faith coming by hearing here by the Word of God, but I say have they not heard Yes, verily their sound went into all the earth and their words into the ends of the world But I say did not Israel know First Moses says I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people and by a foolish nation. Will I anger you? And you know what when it says by them that are no people That's what it says in first Peter. It says the fact that Those which were no people in time past but are now the people of God which had not obtained mercy But now have obtained mercy and we are a holy nation a royal priesthood of peculiar people and the idea here Is that that nation is made up of all believers? Jews and Gentiles, but that nation that Israel of God if you will that spiritual Israel is a more powerful nation And it's it's stronger and it's going to provoke that other nation to jealousy and that's what and I don't have this in my notes But in Romans chapter 11, that's what what Paul is bringing up He's like that I may provoke the emulation those of my flesh right meaning that he's trying to provoke them to jealousy to say hey, you know what these promises are ours and you should be taking part of that and That's what you're dealing with here You're dealing with from the those that are of the physical nation of Israel to those that are of that spiritual nation and remember in Romans chapter 9 where It states they are not all Israel which are of Israel That can only be true if there's two different Israel's, okay Because that wouldn't make any sense. He's saying they're not all Israel which are of Israel Well, if you're of Israel, but you're not of but you're not all Israel. There has to be two different Israel's Okay. So in this allegory, there's an Israel that God has rejected and there's an Israel that God loves. Okay, and When you're talking about which one he rejected obviously you're talking about that physical nation as a whole he rejected and You know you could look at all the parables from the parables that Jesus taught with the fig tree and how it withered away and it was Rejected and all these different parables that Jesus led up to the point where he says the kingdom of God is taken from you And given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof That's what we're dealing with here. He taketh away the first they may establish the second and Which one came first though, which one's the eldest? Well, the old okay, very simple but the old one is the older one it's the elder one that's the one that's being rejected and The new or the younger is the one that's being accepted. That's stronger. That's obviously loved by God now Go to 2nd Thessalonians chapter 3 because a point I want to make here is that Esau have I hated okay, and when it's stating this that you know, I abhorred them in Deuteronomy 32 Children and whom is no faith. I have a major a major point I'm trying to get across here What I want to get across here is the fact of these people that have no faith. What does that represent? Okay Besides that they're lost besides that they're you know, obviously you're gonna go to hell because You know only those that believe on Christ are gonna be saved and go to heaven but in 2nd Thessalonians chapter 3 and verse 1 2nd Thessalonians chapter 3 and verse 1 Says finally brethren pray for us that the word of the Lord may have free course and be glorified even as it is with you And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men for all men have not faith Okay, so we're dealing with the fact that there's unreasonable and wicked men that have not faith There's Deuteronomy talks about this nation of people that he hates and that our children in whom is no faith Okay, let's keep going here in 2nd Timothy actually go to go to I want you to go to John chapter 12, but in 2nd Timothy chapter 3, I've read this one so many times I feel like you don't need to go there But you can if you want 2nd Timothy chapter 3 and verse 6 says for this sort are they that which creep into houses and lead Captive silly women laden with sins let away with divers lust ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth Now as Janice and Jamborees withstood Moses so that these also resist the truth men of corrupt minds Reprobate concerning the faith. So obviously those that are reprobate concerning the faith would be those that have no faith. Okay, and John chapter 12 and verse 38 Jesus is speaking here It says in verse 38 that the saying of his eyes the prophet might be fulfilled which he spake Lord who hath believed our report and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? Therefore they could not believe Because that Isaiah said said again He had blinded their eyes and hardened their heart that they should not see with their eyes nor understand with their heart and be converted And I should heal them Say what what's your point? What are you trying to get across here? Okay Well Esau represents someone that God hates and someone that God hates has no faith Okay, you see that over and over again. No faith reprobate concerning the faith in who children in whom is no faith Okay, go to Romans chapter 4 Romans chapter 4 because remember Esau represents The first covenant. Okay, that's what I'm trying to get across here Obviously you can see how Esau would represent just children of the devil Okay at the same time so a lot of times in these allegories There's like an allegory that you could use over here with those two same thing with Cain and Abel Like I said, you know, that's definitely an allegory of that's not that's not just an allegory They straight-up are right you have Cain who's of the wicked one and you have Abel who's obviously a saved person that had faith And and all that I personally believe that that Esau was a saved man I don't believe that God hated the person Esau. Okay, I Believe that God blessed him and I believe we'll see Esau in heaven. Okay, but for allegorical purposes He's used as kind of a bad person Nebuchadnezzar I believe is a saved. I believe he got saved. Okay, but he's also used as a picture of the Antichrist Okay, like Nebuchadnezzar would picture the Antichrist when you think of the the burning fiery furnace and the image That's set up above him and people having to bow down to it, but he got saved Okay, so when you're dealing with the person themselves, they may not fully represent the allegory. Okay, meaning this is that Some things that they did in their life may represent it but again Esau I don't believe was The person was hated by God but the nation that came forth from him was and what what he represented as far as in this allegory is Because I believe he represents not only the children of the devil. He also represents this first covenant and so what the point of trying to get across here in verse 13 of Romans chapter 4 is As for the promise that he should be the heir of the world was not the Abraham or to a see through the law for through the but through the righteousness of faith For if they which are of the law be heirs faith is made void in the promise made of none effect Because the law worketh wrath for the where no law is there is no transgression What I'm going to show you here is that go to Galatians chapter 3 is that? That the law would make faith void and vice-versa meaning this is that knows what it says in Galatians chapter 3 Galatians chapter 3 and verse 11 Galatians chapter 3 and verse 11 it says but that no man is justified by the law on the side of God It is evident for the just shall live by faith and the law is not of faith But the man that doeth them shall live in them. So what I'm trying to get across here is that Esau Allegorically represented a man of no faith But the law is not of faith Okay But then you have Jacob who would represent faith, okay, so Esau represent the law and And and all that now when it comes to that There's so many different avenues you can look at here dealing with how these represent that but I wanted to point that out First of all is the fact that Jacob have I loved but Esau have I hated well those that he hates are those and children in whom is no faith and You know that that they're unreasonable or wicked men and for all men have not faith Meaning that that's been taken away from them. Okay, they're reprobate concerning the faith, but the law is completely separated from faith Do you see that? That's why the law has nothing to do with salvation because it's either a faith or it's of the works of the law You can't mix those two and same thing with grace, you know The Bible says and if I grace it isn't no more of works Otherwise grace is no more grace and it goes the same way the other direction, but at the same time You know what? We have access into this grace by faith So faith is stating here is that the law is not a faith and if it's by the law then faith is made void Okay, does that make sense faith is made void if the law is involved at all So the law has nothing to do with faith and faith has nothing to do with the law. Okay, they're polar opposites Just much as loving something and hating something's poly up polar opposite We're showing that the first covenant what does that represent the law Condemnation it's the ministration of death and condemnation whereas the New Testament the New Covenant is that of grace and righteousness and reconciliation, you know faith Okay, that's what we're dealing with here now go to a Colossians chapter 2 Colossians chapter 2 now when it comes to the elder servant the younger you can definitely see obviously that you Can look in the physical manner of Serving like the nations like Israel and Esau serving and you can think about how You know the physical nation of Israel is serving the spiritual nation of Israel. But what I get out of this is that What was the purpose of the first testament? What was the purpose of the Old Covenant? It was to point to the New Covenant basically what I believe to serve As what I'm going to show you here as a shadow of things to come It was to serve as a picture of a time then present It served a purpose. Okay, and it served the younger Because everything that the the Old Testament did was to look forward to what the New Testament was going to do Okay, look what it says in Colossians chapter 2 and verse 16 Colossians 2 and verse 16 it says let no man therefore judge you in meat or in drink or in respect of unholy day or holiday or Of the new moon or the Sabbath days which are a shadow of things to come but the body is of Christ Okay Go to Hebrews chapter 9 Hebrews chapter 9 Hebrews chapter 9 You say man, you're always in Hebrews. Well, we are talking about the first covenant second covenant We are so this is a whole series on like Allegories of the Old Testament New Testament. So yeah, we're gonna be in Hebrews But Hebrews chapter 9 and verse 1 here Notice what it says it says then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service in a worldly sanctuary For there was a tabernacle made the first wearing was the candlestick in the table in the showbread Which is called the sanctuary and after the second veil the tabernacle which is called the holiest of all Which had the golden censer in the Ark of the Covenant overlaid roundabout with gold wherein was the golden pot that had manna and Aaron's Rod that budded in the tables of the Covenant and over it the cherry beams of glory shadowing the mercy seat of which we cannot Speak particularly now when these things were thus ordained the priest went always into the first tabernacle accomplishing the service of God But into the second when he went the high priest alone Once every year not without blood which he offered for himself for the errors of the people The Holy Ghost is signifying that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made Manifest while as the first tabernacle was yet standing. So what was the purpose of why they couldn't go past that veil? It was to point out that it was not That that new way has not been made yet Okay You see how it's serving to show a purpose here that only the high priest could go past that but no one else could go into that second Tabernacle which if you think about the tabernacle There's like this one half where a lot of the priests could go But there's past that veil where the Ark the Covenant was only the high priest could go once a year. Okay? But keep reading here. It says in verse Verse 9 which was a figure for the time then present in which were offered both gifts and sacrifice that could not make him That did the service perfect as pertaining to the conscience Which stood only in meats and drinks and divers washings and cardinal ordinances imposed on them until the time of Reformation But Christ being common high priest of good things to come by a greater and more perfect Tabernacle not made with hands that is to say not of this building neither by the blood of goats and calves But by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place having obtained eternal redemption for us So what was what was the first habit? It was a figure for a time then present it served the younger, right? The whole point was to show you. Okay. Why is this veil here to show you that? That the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest Okay, and when that was rent from top to bottom even physically speaking That showed that there we can enter by a new and living way even by his flesh, you know And it talks about that in Hebrews later on. Okay, so the point here is that It was a shadow of things to come. It was a figure for a time then present go to chapter 10 verse 1 So you see these phrases that keep being mentioned But the point when you go through like Leviticus or you go through You know these different things that they did the feast and all this stuff they all represent something All right. I know I did a sermon about the Feast of the Lord, but they all represent something Okay, something that Jesus was going to do And you think of the Passover the first fruits the Feast of Weeks like all these different things that were done They were done to show you what God was going to do They represent something but every sacrifice has a meaning to it It has some kind of figure where it's showing you okay, here's what Jesus is gonna do this represents this this represents that They were physical things that they did and it was a physical tabernacle that they had but there's a greater and more perfect tabernacle which is in heaven and All that blood that they shed of the bulls and the goats. That was all the picture the true blood Which is the blood of Jesus Christ You know that that all was just a picture It was all a figure it was all a shadow of things to come Notice what says in verse 1 of chapter 10 for the law having a shadow of good things to come Straight up says it the law has a shadow of good things to come see how it serves the younger Serves a purpose. Okay, because the one thing I want to get across here is that the first testament was not like You know a mistake It was all planned it was that way for a reason it was all to serve as a purpose and it's to serve the younger it's to serve the New Testament and it's to serve the second and when you're dealing with twins here, the first is serving the second and You see that over and over again keep reading there It says for the law having a shadow of good things to come and not the very image of the things can never with those Sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers they're on to perfect But then would they not have ceased to be offered because that the worshippers once per should have no more conscience of sins So yeah, I mean why you keep sacrificing all these sacrifices if it's taking away sins. No, it's because it doesn't actually cover sins Verse 3 it says but in those sacrifices remember it's again every Again made of sins every year for it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins Wherefore when he cometh into the world He said sacrifice and offering that what is not but a body has not prepared me and burn offerings and sacrifices for sin Now has had no pleasure then said I lo I come in the volume of the book It is written of me to do thy will Oh God above when he said sacrifice and offering and burn offerings and offering for sin that would it's not neither has pleasure therein Which are offered by the law? Then said he lo I come to do thy will. Oh God He taketh away the first that he may establish the second Do you see how the law is? A picture for a time then present it pictures, but it serves a purpose. It's serving the younger It's in subjection to the younger and just like Esau would be serving Jacob okay in that allegory Now obviously there the New Testament stronger And we saw that in many places but it straight-up says it in Genesis 25 that When it's talking about the elder shall serve the younger it says that the one people in verse 23 The one people shall be stronger than the other people. Okay, but notice what it says here And I'm just gonna get give some little points here and I'll be done to be honest with you There's a lot of different things I can get into here when it comes to Jacob and Esau's life, but in Genesis 25 verse 25 It says the first came out red all over like in hairy garment and they called his name Esau and after that came his brother out and it and his hand took hold on Esau's heel and his name was called Jacob and East and Isaac was three score years old when he when she buried them. So we see that Esau is You know like Obviously this this hairy child, I guess, you know and and basically It states here that his brother took him by the heel, but it also says obviously What does it represent that the nation's stronger? Okay That's what this is representing taking him by the heel and it's showing the strength of the younger In this birthing process here and obviously they were striving together. Okay, and And Wouldn't you not say that the Old Testament and the New Testament are at complete contrast with each other? Because the law and faith are at complete contrast with each other. Okay, the law and grace The the law was given by Moses a grace and truth came by Jesus Christ Okay, there's a stark contrast there of those of those two two thoughts but in Hebrews chapter 1 the one thing I want to point out here is is the fact that He talks about Talks about Esau being like red and all over like in hairy garment, okay And what does that represent? Okay, if you're going to say that that Esau is like the first covenant and Notice what it says in Hebrew chapter 1 It says God who at sundry times and in diverse manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his son whom he hath appointed heir of all things by whom also he made the worlds, okay now there's obviously contrast between the first covenant and second covenant because obviously the first covenant Or even before that you had the prophets that were basically declaring God's Word but in the New Testament we have the Lord Jesus Christ himself the Son of God is you know in these last days hath he spoken unto us by his son and Obviously, there's a lot of other things with the New Testament. That's awesome The fact that the Holy Ghost is inside indwelling us and you know, we don't you know, basically he's our teacher and all that But what I want to point out is the fact that I believe Him being like this hairy garment represents being like the prophets Okay, the time of the prophets if you will and I'm gonna point to you John the Baptist Okay, John the Baptist go to Matthew chapter 3 Matthew chapter 3 and verse 4 Matthew chapter 3 and verse 4 Matthew chapter 3 and verse 4 Because John was clearly a prophet, okay, actually he was the greatest prophet to be born among women That's what the Bible that's what Jesus said Obviously Jesus is obviously greater a greater prophet But obviously dealing with human humanly speaking John the Baptist was the greatest to be born of women And it says in verse 4 of Matthew 3 in the same John had his raiment of Camels hair and a leather girdle about his loins and his meat was locusts and wild honey now There's a passage in Zechariah, which I'm not going to go to but it basically talks about not wearing a rough rough garment to Deceive meaning this is that talking about Not regarding the prophets not listening to the prophets basically We're not even gonna wear a rough garment to make it look like we're even a prophet Okay, and even with John the Baptist that you know, what went you out for to see a man clothed in soft raiment Well, he's wearing camels hair and a leather girdle. Okay, so they wore rough garments and I don't think it's You could say that Esau was a smooth man. Okay, meaning like he was a rough guy the point that being is that when Jacob obviously was Basically trying to get the blessing from his father. He had to put on like goatskin like fur I mean that's intense. Okay, like And he and he thought it was Esau. Okay I mean, that's that's the thing that you got to think about there is that he literally put on like goat fur And he's just like that's my son Esau so that he was obviously a hairy man, but he's a rough guy right and When you're dealing with the prophets it talks about in Matthew chapter 11 verse 13 It says for all the prophets and law in the law prophesied until John. I Believe John was the last prophet of the Old Testament Okay, meaning that Jesus obviously brought in the New Testament. And so once that happened, you no longer had the law on the prophets Okay, because that's why it says in Hebrews God who had sundry times in diverse manners spake in time passed unto the fathers by the prophets Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his son. There's a shift there. Do you see that between the prophets and now? okay, and you can see a stark difference between the Old Testament New Testament and the fact that Esau would obviously represent like the time of the prophets if you will. Okay, and not saying that's a bad thing, right? I'm not saying like it was wrong for John the Baptist to wear this Camel's hair garment. Okay, or it's wrong to be like some like grizzly bear hairy guy, you know I mean like that obviously is not wrong It's just what does it represent and I believe it represents the Old Testament it represents the prophets if you will. Okay, and And then in the New Testament, you know dealing with you know being stronger like the the New Testament being stronger I'll just give you one passage here, but Hebrews would just say this over and over again. It's better. It's better. It's better promises Stronger it's greater. It's more excellent. Like it just says it's over and over again So I don't want to belabor that in Hebrews But Matthew chapter 12 go to Matthew chapter 12 verse 38 because Jesus says this many times basically talks about other prophets But he's like I'm greater than that. Okay so when you're dealing with Esau being like this hairy garment if you will or like what would kind of represent like John the Baptist who was You know wearing this hairy garment and what was John the Baptist did he come first or second when it came to Jesus, right? He came before to prepare the way of the Lord, right? He was there to serve to bring in the Lord and he even says, you know, you know, basically talking about the fact that he must increase but I must decrease and in the fact that You know, I'm not worthy even to lose the latch it of his shoes and Just on and on and the fact that He's stating that Jesus is greater than him Okay He came first to prepare the way and you kind of see that prophet to Jesus kind of representation with John the Baptist in there But dealing with Esau you can definitely see how John the Baptist would represent there with Esau being like a hairy garment But in Matthew chapter 12 verse 38, it says then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered saying master We would see a sign from me But he answered and said unto them an evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign and there shall no sign be given it Given to it but the sign of the prophet Jonas Whereas Jonas was three days three nights in the whale's belly So shall the son of man be three days three nights in the heart of the earth the men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation shall condemn it because they repented at the preaching of Jonas and Behold a greater than Jonas is here the Queen of the South shall rise up in judgment with his generation and shall condemn it For she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon and behold a greater than Solomon is here So he's kind of pointing out Old Testament guys, right? You know, Jonah Solomon You're like what Solomon a prophet while he wrote Proverbs and Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon I'm gonna say yes on that one, you know, obviously he was moved by the Holy Ghost To write those scriptures, so he's greater than them. He's stronger than them okay, and When it comes to this go to go back to Genesis chapter 25 Genesis chapter 25 and verse 27 I'm Trying to pick out a little little pieces here one I was thinking about that I don't have in my notes, but it talks about Esau selling his birthright. I Mean that's a great example Of basically what Israel did I mean they had the birthright they had the promises, right? The covenants were given to them and they sold it. I Mean they said he sold it for pottage, but literally it was sold for 30 pieces of silver Preferably, you know went through Judas. They as a whole rejected him for 30 pieces of silver They sold him and that was the price he was valued at was 30 pieces of silver and the price that he gave his birthright was for a thing of pottage and So that being said you can definitely see how that would represent as well And you could go down the line with the story of Esau and Jacob and how Esau wanted to kill Jacob Okay, and you say well, you know Jacob Jacob did wrong him Like I said, you're dealing with humans here, but the aspect of like, you know Basically Esau wanting to kill Jacob would also apply with the fact that the children of the flesh Persecute the children of the spirit right? I mean the idea there is still the same with that allegory I'm throwing some out there because like I said, you could go down this line of Esau and Jacob and showing you that representation But there is a stark difference between these two characters. Okay in Genesis 25 verse 27. It says the boys grew and Esau was a cunning hunter a Man of the field and Jacob was a playing man dwelling in tents Now on the surface stark difference Okay ones in the field ones in tents ones a cunning hunter ones a plain man now When I see that as far as obviously, you know, this is why You know Isaac loved Jake or loved Esau because of his venison it had to do with what he was good at Okay, and there's I'm sure some application they're dealing with Loving, you know the meats and the drinks and divers washings and going into that aspect of of the first covenant And all that but what I want to point out is it is what it says about Jacob Okay So I was kind of talking about Esau and how he kind of represents that prophet the hairy garment and all that Jacob is described as a plain man Now plain I believe is just basically saying there's nothing there's no like thing that just stands out about him He's just like a typical Plain, you know guy. Okay, and I don't believe it means he's weak Okay, because obviously he took his brother by the heel Okay, but if you think about it being a cunning hunter of the field it's kind of like this skill if you have that's kind of I Guess admired and I think of one other person that's called like basically a hunter before the Lord and that's Nimrod You know in the Bible and I'm not saying Nimrod was a bad person I'm just saying that that's kind of he's kind of had an accolade. That's an accolade is given or basically An attribute of somebody it's kind of like someone that's expert at war or someone that's a cunning hunter These are these are kind of like things that you could pin on somebody and say hey that guy's special That guy's got this skill right that's above other people Whereas Jacob's a plain guy now. He's obviously when you read about Jacob. He's a hard worker. He's a good guy he's a good godly guy right, but he's not a guy that's got like these natural like Abilities that maybe other people are born with or just have tendencies to that make sense Now what I think about immediately is how this would apply to Jesus right and how this would apply To our Savior go to Isaiah 53 Isaiah 53 in verse 1 Isaiah 53 in verse 1 Like I said There's many others here, you know after the search you like you miss this you miss that Listen, there's some things that I just you know It just takes so much time to go through but there may be things that I'm just missing and you may see it you may Even bring it up to me later. I'll be like, what about this part? What about this part? Because there are a lot of things that would fit. Okay? But in Isaiah 53 in verse 1 it says who has believed our report and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant and as a root out of a dry ground Notice this he hath no form nor comeliness and when we shall see him there is no beauty that we should desire him So when you're talking about Jacob being this plain man, I think of the Lord Jesus You know the Lord Jesus was you know, obviously, you know perfect in every way and righteousness and all that but he wasn't like You know the best-looking guy in the room, you know he didn't have like the idea here is that There's no it's not like you're gonna look at him be like that guy, you know Like everybody gravitate gravitates to like the best-looking person in the world. That's not why people are gravitating towards him it's because he's the Son of God and when I see that he's a plain man, obviously Jacob we see later on is a godly man and obviously God God will bless him but You know how that represents into Jesus and all that Other things, you know when you're dealing with Jacob and Esau You could go down the line with their lives and see how those would represent But these are just some points that I kind of was just picking out and seeing just in this story right here that I'm sure you could find other ones in there Okay, and just and couple that but the main point that I'm trying to get across here. Is that Jacob have I love at Esau I have I hated Okay, the elder shall serve the younger if you think about those are the two phrases that are really pinned to those two guys as far as being like With those two together. Does that make sense? Like you could obviously see things that are talked about with Jacob in one hand and Esau over here But when you put those two together as twins Jacob have I love Esau I have I hated the elder shall serve the younger And how that represents I believe the Jacob have I love at Esau I have I hated shows you that The children in whom is no faith and that that in there With the law it is not a faith. The law is not of faith. That's how that fits right there and then obviously You know Jacob would be the other side of that equation and then the elder serving the younger the idea that All of the first covenant was to serve the purpose of bringing in the new that's what the purpose was it was the serve for the new and It wasn't a mistake and These allegories I believe are show you that this was not a mistake. This was planned from the beginning from conception, you know, and And so that being said is that there's gonna be other places where? There's gonna be another set of twins that I'll mention but there's just gonna be other cases where there's just two people that are mentioned That kind of show this allegory of Old Testament New Testament I Don't know how maybe I'm gonna go through Because I you know going through this one I thought of and I found another one that would apply, you know dealing with You know those differences so If you think of one, let me know because right now I you know The one that I thought of recently was Rachel and Leah actually Leah and Rachel There is Paninna and Hannah Those are like two women that kind of just someone mentioned which I definitely see how that would represent it There's ones that are very clearly like Saul and David Zara and Pharise, I'm gonna get into that that one. Those are twins. Okay, Ephraim and Manasseh That's one that I've hit when I went through Genesis But that one is very good when it comes to showing you that that dichotomy between the Old Testament and New Testament So there's there's some in there that are Like I know off the top of my head like here's how I'll explain this This is what you're trying to get out of it But there's other ones where it's like I can kind of see it a little bit But I don't know if it's a whole sermon so but if you have any thoughts or any ones that you kind of think of in the Old Testament that would foreshadow the New Testament and just show that Those two covenants let me know because I'm always interested To see if there's other ones that I haven't seen before so but that's a Jacob and Esau. Like I said That one is clearly a dichotomy of the children of the devil children of God For sure, but I think it also you can see in there that Old Testament New Testament And so if I were to look at Jacob and Esau and you say what's the allegory of Jacob and Esau? The first one I would say is the children of the devil children of God That makes sense. Like that's the one that's just like that one just screams out at you of what that's talking about. Okay, but Secondarily I can definitely see how it represents the Old Testament and New Testament as well Okay, so I just want to put that out there that hey if I was gonna look at it this as an allegory I'm gonna probably pick that primary case to really talk about more than any other but there's also secondary in there as well. So So hopefully you're enjoying this I like going through these I like seeing these different things But if you ever see anything after I preach the sermon Point them out to me I'm always interested in learning different pieces and parts that maybe you saw that I didn't so let's end with the word prayer The only father we think today Thank you for your word and just pray to be with us throughout the rest of this week and keep us all healthy be with Those that aren't feeling well, I know a lot aren't feeling well right now and just pray to heal Them and keep us all healthy and safe where we love you for else in Jesus Christ name Amen, but they will come and sing one more song and that will be dismissed Take your song books and turn to song number 93 Song number 93 and if you would stand we'll sing art thou weary art thou languid song number 93 Are thou weary art thou languid art thou sore distress Come to me saith one and come he be at rest Hath he marks to lead me to him if he be my guide And his feet and hands are wound prints and his side Is there diadem as monarch that his brow adorns Yea crown and very sure t bar
