Fields and vineyards and make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds That all of you have conspired against me and there is none that showeth me that My son hath made a league with the son of Jesse and there is none of you that is sorry for me Or showeth unto me that my son hath stirred up my servant against me till I await as at this day Then answered doe egg the Edomite which was set over the servants of Saul and said I saw the son of Jesse coming to know to Hemelac the son of a high tub and he inquired of the Lord for him And gave him vittles and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine then the king sent on sent to call a him like the priest the son of a high tub and All his father's house the priests that were in no and they came all of them to the king It's all said here now thou son of a high tub and he answered here am I my lord? It's all said unto him Why have ye conspired against me doubt and the son of Jesse in that thou hast given him bread and a sword and has inquired? Of God for him that he should rise against me to lie in wait as as at this day Then him elect answered the king and said and who is so faithful among all the servants as David Which is the king's son-in-law and go with that thy bidding and it is honorable in thine house Did I then begin to inquire of God for him be it far from me Let not this let not the king impute anything unto his servant nor to all the house of my father For thy servant knew nothing of all this less or more and the king said thou shalt surely die I am elect thou and all thy father's house and the king said unto the footman that stood about him Turn and slay the priests of the Lord because their hand also is with David and because they knew When he fled and did not show it to me But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the Lord and the king said to do egg turn down and fall upon the priests and do egg the enemite turned and He's fell upon the priests and slew on that day four score and five persons that wear a linen a pot he fought and knob the city of The priests smote he with the edge of the sword both men and women Children and suckling and oxen and asses and sheep with the edge of the sword And one of the sons of a himalek the son of a high tub named Abiathar Escaped and fled after David and Abiathar showed David that Saul had slain the Lord's priests and David said unto Abiathar I knew it that day when doe egg the Edomite was there that he would surely tell Saul I have occasioned the death of all the persons of thy father's house Abide thou with me fear not for he that seeketh my life seek at thy life Be with me But with me thou shalt be safe in safeguard. Let's pray dear Lord Thank you for your word and thank you for this night where we gather continue to study from it I pray you be a pastor Robson filled with the Holy Spirit and help us all to be edified. Jesus name. I pray. Amen Amen, so you're there in first Samuel chapter 22 and we are continuing through where David is on the run if you will chapter 21 was the the chapter where David and the young men that were with him Actually ate showbread and him elect the priest gave him the showbread and we went through that whole story and Jesus brings that story up to to prove that they can that he could heal on the Sabbath day and that there's cases where Obviously when you're dealing with life and death or you're dealing with You know, obviously emergency situations that obviously What normally may be not used or lawful to be done There are cases where that can be done. So but it this is this is a horrible story really that we see here where that happens to the priests and to him elect and Something just just crazy that that saw what a lot would let happen and that he would command to happen But first of all in verse 1 here We see that it says in verse 1 it says David therefore departed thence and escaped to the cave of dolom Now if you remember he went the Gath, right? So if He got the sword of Goliath of Gath and then he fled the Gath and then when he went there, they were basically this is David This is the one that they said David is slain as ten thousands and then this is where he acts like a madman and so Basically he leaves there it comes to a cave and Notice what what what happens here? So he's in this cave and it says and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it. They went down there to him So at this point David before this I believe he had some young men with him But he pretty much didn't have he didn't have like this big Following this is where that following happens. So when you think about when he goes to Gath He's gonna go to the Philistines again to the same King But he's gonna have 600 men with him. Okay, so there is a big difference on how You know, obviously the state that David's in at this point compared to later on But at this point, I don't believe he has this big kind of like army of men that are coming with him right now but at this point his basically his family comes to meet him in this cave and And then in verse 2 here It says in every one that was in distress and every one that was in debt and every one that was this discontented Gathered themselves unto him and he he became a captain over them and there were with him about 400 men so basically if you think about it like the outcasts all the outcasts of Israel are basically coming to David and Coming under his leadership and he's kind of getting what we what most would probably look at is the refuse of the land Right, but this is something that's very akin to the New Testament and the idea of or just the idea of just salvation in general when it comes to That God is not called many wise or you know or those that are noble But that actually the the poor are rich in faith and those that are downtrodden and all of that are the ones that actually come to the Lord and It you know these these kind of is I you know, I would call like Misfits or outcasts end up becoming some of David's mightiest men Right now some of those are his own family, right? So the sons of Jeremiah Say that like five times fast Zeruiah is his sister. Okay, and There's three sons to her you have Joab Abishai and Asahel and they're in that those three, you know, the 30 mighties if you will and And Joab's not high up on the list. I mean he becomes captain of the host but then a Mesa is actually David's other sister's son and a Mesa was the captain of the host and there's that whole feud where Joab actually kills a Mesa But so a lot of these mighty men some of these mighty men are his own family Which makes sense because his family came down his father's house came down. And so you have his brothers you have his Which would be his nephews, right? So Joab, Asahel, Abishai would be his nephews and then And then all these other men, right? So you think about his three number one guys you know you have Eliezer, Adano and So you have these these other men that are in there you have Benaiah Don't don't let me get don't get me started on that guy that guy you don't want to mess with So I mean he's dead now, but I mean back then you don't want to mess with that guy, right? and so but go to Psalm 147 Psalm 147 and it just made me think of this as far as That these basically these these outcasts what I would I would you know, it's kind of what you see here They're in distress. They're in debt. They're just discontented You know basically that are downtrodden And in verse 1 so Psalm 147 verse 1 it says praise ye the Lord For it is it is good to sing praises unto our God For it is it is pleasant and praises comely the Lord doth build up Jerusalem. He gathered together the outcasts of Israel he healeth the broken in heart and Bindeth up their wounds and that's something that you see a lot when it comes to salvation But you think about just those that end up serving the Lord and a lot of cases are those that are kind of like outcasts in the world and those end up being the ones that are valiant when it comes to serving the Lord and When when you think about the fact that they're in debt or distressed you can think about how Jesus says in Matthew 11 28 come unto Me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest And it's you know that the idea is that they're already in this distress. They're coming to David and The last verse of this dealing with a biathar coming to them is the fact that with me you'll have safeguard, right? It's kind of like this idea like you'll have rest you'll have safety When you're with me, right and and obviously we have that with the Lord and Not to get ahead of myself there But that's kind of the thing that you see here that obviously there's many adversaries there. There's there's haters of the Lord There's there's people that are that you know want to destroy us But in Christ we have safeguarded in Christ, you know, we can be the the outcasts in this world You know come out from among them and be separate said the Lord I mean the Bible talks about us being a peculiar people that doesn't mean weird, right? It doesn't mean you know be this like backwards type of person that has no social skills The idea is that you're peculiar because you're different right you're set apart from the world You're you're not of the world right now to the world We would look weird, but we look at them and they're weird. So And I think you know, the world is getting so weird right now That they're looking at Christians as like that's normal. Like they're really seeing like hey, that's normal and Because it's just so strange nowadays now going back to First Samuel chapter 22 We see that you can see where he's getting this kind of band of men that are with him and obviously family in there as well, but just kind of like this this this group of This motley crew or this misfit crew of men, right? And so And they're rough around the edges, right? I mean, there's something there ends up being like sons of Belial within within the group You know, and so there's definitely some some people that are rough around the edges There's it's kind of like you got the good and the bad in there as well But in verse three, it says in first First Samuel chapter 22 in verse three It says and David went thence to Mizpah of Moab and he said unto the king of Moab let my father and my mother I prayed he come forth and Be with you till I know what God will do for me. So he's basically Dropping his parents off in Moab So what you have to understand and think about this if if Saul is coming after David how can he get to David? Through his loved ones, right? I mean, that's the typical way that people will basically try to Pull people out right if you're if someone's hiding or they're trying to find somebody though You I mean what what what happens at the end of this story will make you think like yeah There's nothing that would be past what he would do to try to get to David, right? but So he's basically has his father mother. So he's kind of he's hanging out in a cave You know at this point so he's kind of like, you know, can you can my parents today with you? It's it so you can understand like he loves his mother and father and if you remember when when David Kills Goliath it states that Jesse his father was was basically an old man at that point, right? He wasn't he was too old to go out to war now if you understand The age for war was 20 to 60 Okay, so that kind of tells you that he was probably above 60 when David killed Goliath now We're not like just you know 20 years removed here from when he killed Goliath, right? I mean he was a lad and We know that he's 30 years old when he begins to reign. So we're not at that point yet. Okay, so, you know His father could be in his 70s, you know, something like that 60 70 somewhere in there, right? I'm just speculating. I'm just saying like if he's not 50, we don't really know maybe he was in maybe he was like 80 when When David was going for it to kill Goliath, but I'll say this. I believe he was above 60 You know for the Bible to state that he was you know, he was a valiant man He's a man of war but at that point he was considered an old man And so he wasn't out there his sons were out there, but he wasn't out there, okay, so he's basically dropping off his parents and you can tell obviously he cares about his parents wants them to be safe and basically He's like he's basically asking the king. Can you can they stay here until I figure out what's gonna happen, right? What's gonna go down? And verse 4 here says and he brought them before the king of Moab and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the hold now Hold would be like a fortress of some sort now I don't know what that hold looked like how small that hold was, you know or whatever but basically he goes from a cave to this hold that is in Moab and Then in verse 5 it says and the prophet Gad said unto David abide not in the hold Depart and get thee into the land of Judah So you can see what's going on here. Is that he's going They were in Nob he goes to the dolom Then he's basically dropping off his parents in Moab and he's there in the hold But there he's over there with the king or his parents are over there with King And then Gad the prophet comes and says come back to Judah Okay, and when he comes back to Judah It says abide not in the hold depart and get thee into the land of Judah Then David departed and came into the forest of Harith So he goes from a cave to a hold to a forest So just kind of get the picture of where David is just he's in a field with when I mean He's just hanging. He's basically just out there in the wilderness wherever he's at basically hiding out He's not he's not living it up. He's not at the Hilton Right. He's not at the Ramada Inn eating, you know that continental breakfast or whatever I mean, he's out in the wilderness just living off the land essentially and doing what he can I mean, that's kind of where he gets to the point where he's eating the showbread, right? I mean he's out there just trying to survive and When you think about this when you go to the second Samuel when you when you read about Absalom and and then the council that's given The the bad council if you will right because you have the the good council which is to go out there and basically kill him now meaning like that would have worked but God obviously sent to destroy that and The the bad council was is that you know your father right, you know that You know, basically he's chafed, you know as a lion that's you know, robbed as well You know, it's like his men or like lion like men and you think about it like Ashland probably knows like hey This is what David had to do when Saul was after him And so David's no stranger to that so you can imagine how that council Like Absalom's just like yeah, that's right Because it's not out in left field Because it says that Dave is not going to be in this, you know, basically he's gonna be in some pit somewhere Well, yeah, I mean that's what he did. I mean, it's not it's not out in the ordinary. It's actually like yeah that that Yeah, he probably is okay, and so Reading through here you kind of see that Foreshadowing of how that council is really gonna hit to ask them because you'd be like, well, why does Absalom listen to that guy? Because what he's saying actually happened already and so it actually has a lot of validity But so he's in the forest and In verse 6 here is where Saul comes into the picture and Saul is just having a big pity party Okay, when I read this I just think all you know, all negative Nancy over here it's like let me let me let me just You know play the smallest violin for you, you know because no one feels sorry for you And then he literally says that that no one is sorry for me. It's just like It's just such a pity party Just baby attitude that Saul has here in verse 6 It says and when Saul heard that David was discovered and the men that were with him now Saul abode In Gibeah under a tree in Ramah Having his spear in his hand and all his servants were standing about him. So basically he's in Ramah. He's under this tree He's got a spear with them and it's basically that they found out where David's at right there. They're basically finding news about David being discovered and It's kind of like hey, we saw him over here. You know, we we know that David's moving around. Okay, and It says in verse 7 then Saul said unto his servants that stood about him here now you Benjamites now think about this He's up Benjamin, right? So you kind of have this idea that right now the kingdom is kind of in shambles a little bit and Saul the Benjamites are loyal to Saul and obviously Judah is loyal to David now Even when the kingdom is being taken away from David by Absalom for that little short period of time when David comes back It's Judah that has to plead for him to come over all of Israel And so you can kind of see how their tribe their family tribe is kind of on the side Benjamin's on the side of their guy Saul and Judah's on David's side which if you think about where's David at he's in Judah And so he's that's why it says Benjamites, you know Because probably a lot of the men that are with Saul were from Benjamin. Just be honest but it says Will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards so he's kind of bribing them He's kind of like, you know, it's you know Is he gonna give you all this stuff like I gave you and just kind of buttering them up as far as like hey I take care of you. Is David gonna take care of you like I do? It says and make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds That all of you have conspired against me. I Mean it kind of it kind of sounds like a madman at this point, right? Just like my son's conspired against me David's conspired against me all of you have conspired against me It's like no none of that's true No one is conspiring against you, right? But what you have to understand is that the wicked flee when no man pursue it But the righteous are bold as a lion is that the wicked are constantly like this paranoid like You know Think about this if you're if you're in sin, for example A lot of times you're in this state of kind of paranoia or you know Because you have this kind of overarching guilt that's there but if you're if you're living right and you're doing everything you should be doing and someone like is You know throwing an accusation out there or whatever. You're just kind of you brush it off because you're like that's false. That's wrong They're idiots, right? But whenever you're dealing with the fact of having kind of this overarching You know like you're in sin or something like that you're constantly thinking like they're talking about me they're coming after me this is about me and In most cases it's not You know and in this case none of this had to do like no one was conspiring against all that we know of right? I Mean Jonathan was not conspiring against all he's just saying don't kill David David wasn't trying to assert authority He was just winning battles, right? It's not like David's like hey It's my turn to reign get off the throne but you don't see that at all and so it's just this this he's paranoid and he's just constantly thinking everybody's against him and Why because the Lord is not with him. So When you're not walking in the Lord and abiding in Christ, then you don't have this piece you have this this constant kind of mentality and it's just not at peace and so I Want all girls look at me. I want you. I want a seat between each one of you that means spread out now There is like no one over there besides brother Dave so you have plenty of room spread out and stop talking to each other now when it comes to keep reading there in verse 7 that Saul's Aaron Rhema and he I'm sorry in verse verse 8 there It says that all of you have conspired against me And there is none that showeth me that my son hath made a league with the son of Jesse So he's basically like no one told me about this. It's like who knew about it, right? I mean think about this when when when Jonathan made this covenant with David, you know Basically about like how they're not going that they're gonna preserve each other's houses no matter what happens No one was there. I mean even the young man that was there to pick up the pick up the arrows He told me go home. He had no idea that David was even there So he's just like no one told me about that. It's like well, how can they tell you about it Saul? They weren't there and maybe they heard it in passing but then it's like this hearsay stuff, right? It's not like they heard it with their own ears So he's basically like no one told me about that and there is none of you That is sorry for me. I Mean talk about a pity party. I mean, this is the definition of a pity party. It's like none of you are sorry for me You know that my son is You know made this covenant with with the son of Jesse and that basically you're all just conspiring against me. I Mean what a little baby. I mean, that's all I see here It's just like a whiny little baby when it comes to what's going on, but this is what sin will do to you It'll take away your confidence. It'll take away your boldness and it will cause you to be a whiny little brat And so whenever you know and Whenever someone's whiny or looking for a pity party, it just tells me that hey, you're not real You're not you're not full of spirit Because don't tell me that you're you're being filled with the spirit and you're having a little pity party on yourself let's say you have not given the spirit of fear, but a power and of love and of a sound mind and If you are not in the state of peace listen the fruit of it what you know One of the pieces of the fruits of the spirit or fruit of the spirit is peace So Saul is not at peace here. He is not he's not he doesn't have confidence. He's not exuding boldness here he's exuding weakness and He fear I mean think about this is all coming back to fear. He's afraid that everybody's against him He's afraid his own son is against me. He's afraid Dave, you know, he's afraid of David I mean, how many times does it say that he was afraid of David because David behaved himself wisely Because the people because the people loved him But none of that proved that David was conspiring against him or that his own son was conspiring Yes, or that his own men were conspiring against him. He's just paranoid and he's paranoid because obviously the Lord is not with him in this and He is constantly just going against the commandment of the Lord and it says there is none of you that is sorry for me or Showeth unto me that my son has stirred up my servant against me to lie and wait as at this day Now that's just a blatant lie Right and what you're gonna see with Saul here is that he makes a bunch of railing accusations against well them, right? I mean at this point he's making a railing accusation against his men And saying you're conspiring against me. My son's conspiring against me And now he's saying that you know My son is you're not showing me that my son is stirred up my servant to lie and wait against me Is David lying in wait for Saul? Is he just like guy I'm about to get him I mean throughout this book you'll see that that's definitely not the case because actually there's two different accounts where David could have killed him And he doesn't do it which just completely annihilates that false accusation So it's just this railing accusation after railing accusation against against his men against his son against David about what he thinks that they're about and This is really the you kind of see the state of a Christian that is not Living for the Lord a Christian that's that that is in sin and that is disobedient To the Lord. This is this is their mentality. This is where they're at mentally They're in the state of paranoia, fear, there's no peace You know great peace have they which love thy law and nothing shall offend them You want to have peace? Well, then you need to abide in Christ And you know that that song trust and obey Yeah, I kind of have mixed feelings about that song because I've heard people I've heard preachers Sing that song and I know what they think that it means like their trust and obey Like you gotta obey to be saved, right? You gotta have Obedience to be saved, you know, like you got it and it's what they mean by that is obey the law, you know But really trust and obey to be happy in Jesus Not to be saved but to be happy in Jesus see there's a difference between you know being saved and having your joy Fulfilled right and being happy in the Lord and having peace the peace that passes all understanding, you know Obviously that happens spiritually the moment you get saved But that can happen also physically in this life if you abide in Christ if you are obeying his commandments if you do You know love him and keep his commandments that there is this peace and confidence and boldness and I don't about you But I don't like being in that state We've all been there right? We've all been there in a state of fear and a state of you know This kind of like paranoia. I Don't like that, okay I don't want to be in that state the way to not be in that that type of state right there is to Abide in Christ. Well, how do you abide in Christ? Everybody we know that we know him if we keep his commandments. He that abideth in him sinneth not So you want to know him you want to perceive him you want you know You want to abide in him keep his commandments And not be rebelling against what he is telling you to do so go to verse 9 there because Basically hit he's just calling out his servants I mean that could just imagine that they're just like I don't know what you tell you like, right? It's not like they know where David's at. They're sitting there with them It's like they're you know, like they're all just hiding this information. They're like, you know where he's at You're not telling me right? You're not sorry for me. You don't feel bad for me. It's like man Give me a break And so you can imagine that he's only making it worse for himself too Because listen when if you have a leader That's just like if I just got up here and be like you guys aren't you don't feel bad for me enough Aren't you sorry about what I got to go through? Aren't you sorry about my work schedule? Aren't you sorry for me? Don't you have pity upon me? You know, I'm like up here like have pity upon me, you know my friends And I'm not going through anything really, you know, it's just this pity party and you're just like suck it up buttercup You don't have anything that's going on. That's even I mean There's people that have real problems that they're dealing with and you're over here. Just like crying about something. That's not even real Right, you're worried about something. That's a phantom It's this phantom fear of like people rising up against salt and none of that is even true so in verse 9 here Doeg Doeg the Edomite now, this is this is a piece of garbage right here Let me put on the pot of shell piece of garbage. Okay, that's who this guy is. I Believe this guy is a hater of the Lord. I believe this guy is a reprobate now I don't believe Saul is I believe this guy is now Saul is a great example based one and one great example of how far a Christian can really go You know when you think about I think about like Solomon. I think about David I think about I think about Saul as far as when you think about like, okay, what can a Christian do? you know, what is what's a Christian cape I believe are capable of doing and And then then you'll see you'll see these these sons of Belial now it doesn't calm a son of Belial, but you know when it comes to the fact that he's They keep calling them the Edomite Edomite Edomite constantly through here and I'm gonna show you why I believe personally That that's that this guy is but either way this guy's wicked. Okay, let's say this guy isn't a child of the devil I mean this guy is wicked now. He's a snitch here. So he's gonna snitch on David in Verse 9 it says then answered Doeg the Edomite which was set over the servants of Saul and said I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob to Himelech the son of Haitham and He inquired of the Lord for him and gave him vittles and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine so You know When you think about I mean, yeah I mean Doeg was there because notice what it says in verse 7 of the last chapter which kind of foreshadowed this right? So when they see eating a showbread and all this stuff's going down with the sword of Goliath and everything in Verse 7 of the last chapter in chapter 21. It says now a certain man of the servants of Saul Was there that day? Detained before the Lord and his name was Doeg and Edomite The cheapest of the herd men that belonged to Saul Now later on we'll see that David knew that Doeg was there and he even thought in his mind. This isn't good Okay Now me I believe Doeg like David knew this guy wasn't a good guy Okay. Now the thing that's interesting about Doeg is what it says about him in verse 7 there It says detained before the Lord Now, what does the word detained mean? Right if I detain somebody am I being detained right? You know like that You know, I what being arrested or basically being held captive or and it says before Okay. Now, I don't know if the priests are detaining him or if it's just this is the Lord saying the Lord is detaining him And you can think about it this way that basically he's kind of like holding Doeg back you know and So he's not he's not in this good state. I think about Barabbas Barabbas was being detained when Jesus was being put on trial. What was he? He was a murderer for sedition murder and robbery is what what he was being detained for and he was set free and Jesus was killed right and So when it comes to Doeg here I believe we see a little more info here about this guy what this guy's about David looks back and says I knew that he would he would tell Saul He knew it. He knew he knew in his mind. He's like I just knew that that's what's gonna happen So it's not like this guy is it like he it's just some random dude there David knew who this guy was He knew what type of person this guy was the Bible the narrator stating that the Lord is detaining him okay, and so Saul is about to lose him Okay meaning like the Lord's kind of holding this guy back from being as wicked as he is I believe and And Saul's basically letting them loose and in verse Verse 11 So basically Doeg kind of he spills the beans about a himalek Basically helping David out But do you remember the story with him like did did the David come up and say hey, I'm running away from Saul and You know, I'm just I'm fleeing Saul. He's trying to kill me Is that what a himalek is that what he told him like no, he said that he's on some secret errand for the king And then he can't tell him about it so in a himalek's mind You know according to David. I mean he's doing something for the king But it's so Saul calls a himalek in his house to him Verse 11 there It says then the king sent to call a himalek the priest The son of Ahitub and all his father's house the priests that were in in Nob and they came all of them to the king and Saul said how he are here now the son of Ahitub and He answered and he answered here. Here am I my lord and Saul said unto him why have you conspired against me thou and the son of Jesse in That thou has given him bread and a sword and has inquired of the Lord for him that he should rise Against me to lie in wait as at this day again railing accusation That is not what a himalek did he did not do that so that he can lay in wait for him and That he's conspiring against him right just false accusation. That's being made there now railing accusation doesn't necessarily mean It's false. It just means it's unfounded right. It's something you don't know you're just making an accusation Could be true, but it's still railing accusation Even if it is true if you don't know for sure and you're just making some blatant accusation But in this case, we know it's not true, right? It's not only just the railing I mean, it is just a false accusation that's being thrown out there and And you know, obviously You know when it comes to this we got to be very careful as far as what kind of accusations we're making about people Even if we're like, I'm like really sure that this person's doing something or this person thinks this about me I have to hold back and so I know for sure right instead of just making a statement About like hey, you know This person said this about me. It's like well if I don't have the receipts, you know if I don't have like the evidence behind that I need to just keep that to myself and Maybe true but at the same time, you know We Need to not just throw out accusation that people and when it comes to this in second Peter chapter 2 in verse 11 it says where Whereas angels which are greater in power and might bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord talking about people in authority or if you think about that the angels dealing with Devils right as far as Making a railing accusation because obviously Michael the Archangel didn't bring a rattling accusation against the devil But it says that these as natural brute beasts made to be taken and destroyed speak evil of the things which they Understand not and shall utterly perish in their own corruption. Basically, they're speaking about things. They don't know right This is what we got to be careful with that when it comes to doctrine as well Especially I mean things in the Bible that are really vague or doesn't give us a lot of information A lot of times people really park it on on things that are just very Kind of absent in the Bible right and they really just want to talk about they want to just dig deep on things that Aren't talked about in the Bible Right, I think about the Watchers Okay in Daniel, you know have that story with with Nebuchadnezzar and how he's humbled and they're just like the Watchers and then they'll make this whole doctrine out of it It's just like dude one chapter it says this and you're like just making up stuff I and they just make up stuff and it has to do with angels and has to do with stuff like that But I mean there obviously is this this angelic realm of you know, obviously flaming, you know Chariots and the spiritual realm and angels and devils and stuff like that But what you have to do with that is stick to what the Bible teaches on that and not speak beyond it Not just be like well You know, this is what I think is going on out there. It's like you don't know that You don't know all those different elements stick to what the Bible says on it and don't go beyond that Well, we would call extra biblical doctrine, you know, meaning like it's past what the Bible is teaching on that so when it comes to this this comes with accusations, but this just comes with doctrine and that You don't want to get in false doctrine stick with what the Bible says and not talk about what it doesn't say, right? It's like well, it doesn't say that these people don't exist Right, or it doesn't say that this isn't you know That's a bad way of looking at doctrine and you're just opening yourself up for false doctrine and some weird You know Doctrine that's gonna mess you up in the end, you know when it comes that Emma sit down go sit down in your chair so What verse did I stop on there so go to verse 14 verse 14 so So a himalec You know answers him it says in verse 14 it says then a himalec answered the king and said And who is so faithful among all thy servants is David Which is the king's son-in-law and goeth at thy bidding and is honorable in thine house Did I then begin to inquire the Lord for him be it far for me? Let not the king impute anything unto his servant nor to all the house of my father for the thy servant knew Nothing of all this less or more and that is true. He didn't know of any of this stuff Now what Saul is saying is not true anyway, right Right. It's not like Dave is conspiring against him and laying in wait. So Saul just making this this stuff up It's all just in his mind of what's going on there. So That's not even true. But either way a himalec didn't know about it And he's just stating that he's like, I don't know and he's stating Why would I think that David will be conspiring against you? I mean think about it What about David what has he ever done that make you would make me think that? To where I should be like casting him out like a leper or like, you know, sending him off and change to you, right? There's just nothing there that would make him think that let alone. It's not true. So what you can feel for a himalec and and for his house and everything because this is gonna be a tragic story here because in verse 16 it says then And the king said thou shalt surely die a himalec thou and all thy father's house And the king said unto the footmen that stood about him turn and slay the priests of the Lord so he basically he has his footmen that are with him and He's stating You and your house are gonna die a himalec and he tells them. Hey go kill them and What happens here is something that I think we all need to take note of is that there are cases where Civil disobedience is warranted Okay Meaning this is that what does it say here? It says because their hand also is with David and because they knew knew when he fled not true false accusation It says and did not show at me But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the Lord So his servants wouldn't do it They're just like no not doing that. They knew they knew that this was a wicked commandment that's being made They knew that Saul didn't have the right to just kill these people for whatever reason he's saying Emma go back to the mother baby room right now now so when it comes to this this is this is a wicked commandment and it needs to not be obeyed and His servants didn't obey or his footmen anyway didn't obey it But this is something that we need to realize when it comes to our government that we don't just obey the government no matter what Now government it has its purpose and God ordains government, but there's a higher power and when it comes to this There's always a higher power and God is the highest power This is the highest power when it comes to what is right and wrong. I Don't care what the US Constitution says, I don't care what government officials say I don't care whether it's federal state county Town whatever, right That this is the final authority and now we're to basically the Bible talks about how we are to obey every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake But if the ordinance is just blatantly against the commandment of the Bible, then you're not to obey that commandment And go to Romans chapter 13 Romans chapter 13, let me just show you that really quick the idea here is that They were right to not obey Saul And there's this weird mentality out there that we just need to obey the government and And no matter what no matter who's giving the commandments no matter if the commandments are completely against There are there are I've heard preachers basically state that It's okay to break God's commandment Is if like your father said it to you or if it's some government official said it to you or whatever. That's Garbage and that's why you have wicked You know governments do crazy stuff to people because people are just following orders Listen, if you follow orders of somebody and that order is Against a blatant command in the Bible then you are guilty You're not immune from that you're not you're not innocent from that action if you do that Just because someone higher up than you commanded you to do it, you know, I mean, that's what a lot of people say Well, I was just following orders Whether it's the police whether it's the you know the Nazis whether it's you know, whether it's dealing with Stalin and his men or Pol Pot or whoever you're dealing with right when you're dealing with like wicked governments that did crazy horrible things our government has done plenty of that where people are following orders and they killed innocent people and The Bible teaches against that this story is definitely a story that we see where innocent people are about to be killed and certain people said no not doing it and Romans chapter 13 verse 1 it says let every soul be subject unto the higher powers notice powers not people not government officials Not it doesn't say be subject unto the you know To the president to the higher powers for there is no power But of God the powers that be or ordained of God just because the government the power the government is ordained doesn't mean that he ordains Every single person in the government Okay That's the the the the stupid logic that people have they'll say well, you know Biden is ordained by God Well, if he is he's ordaining Biden to basically damn our country to hell Not a good thing Right because God can obviously put people in there to oppress you But it is not a good thing listen and in one easy way To prove that God does not ordain everybody is besides the Bible says that they have set up kings But not by me is the fact that the Antichrist who is a man Is going to be put in power and his power and his seed authority was given to him by the dragon not by God Okay, so when people think when they want to say well God, you know, it gets into this Calvinistic view of like everybody You know, he's a puppet master up there like putting everybody into positions No, there are people that put in the position that God didn't put into that position position I mean literally when it talks about making a king it says you were to put in who I appoint You know what that mean? I mean for that to even make any type of logical sense that means that they could put in somebody that they that he didn't appoint So When it comes to this, you know It says in verse 3 there said for rulers are not a terror to good works By definition a ruler that's ordained by God is not a terror to good works So if there is a ruler that's a terror to good works They are not ordained by God Simple as that So and listen, maybe there's a ruler that was you know, basically doing good and all that well God ordains that But that same person that just starts going down and being wicked and doing contrary to that no longer ordained by God Same thing with a pastor right if a pastor is ordained for a position and he's qualified But then he disqualifies himself no longer is that ordination, you know God Putting that on him. I mean he even states to Ephesus that he's gonna take away the candlestick from that pastor if he doesn't repent So it can be taken away When it comes to that appointing it was taken away from Saul I mean literally says that that he rejected Saul from being king and that he doesn't regard him as being king So yes that can happen and so There's this weird idea there and also know this is that in Ecclesiastes 5 8 It says if thou see See is the breath of the oppression of the poor and by and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province Marvel not at the matter for he that is higher than the highest regard it and there be higher than day It's not saying that God ordained that oppression and that perversion of judgment He's just saying that they're the highest of everything God obviously who's the highest power He's regarding that meaning like he's seeing that and there's higher than them meaning that there's always someone up higher In the chain now ultimately God's highest up in the chain But if you think about it, like if there's someone oppressing you there's there's always usually someone higher than that I mean unless you're dealing with the President of the United States oppressing you personally I mean think about that. Okay, the President of the United States is literally personally Giving you like this this this this horrible judgment You know or execute, you know when it comes to the highest level There's someone higher Okay, and obviously God is higher if it got to that level, but no one's usually at that level No one most people aren't at that level with like the Supreme Court or with with President of the United States when it comes to judgment being dealt out and so there's always higher up when it comes to that now Doag the Edomite Is going to end up doing what these other men wouldn't do in verse 18. So in 1st Samuel chapter 22 in verse 18 It says and the king said to Doag turn now and fall upon the priests and Doag the Edomite turned and he fell upon the priests and slew on that day Four score and five persons that did wear a linen ephod. That's 85 priests That Doag kills That's insane Now is Saul excused from this because he's not the one that literally did it No way. I mean David was he excused from killing Uriah? Because he's not the one that did it. No, it says thou has killed Uriah with the sword of Ammon So just because it was some other nation you caused that to happen you purposely Caused everybody to pull back when he was in the heat of the battle and you caused that to happen You're the one that killed him Saul has the blood of those 85 priests on his hands He's not the one that physically did it But the blood is on his hands and You know just because you're the one that gives the order doesn't mean that you're immune from it actually No, if you're accountable for it, both of you are and But Doag doesn't stop there. Now what you have to understand is that when you're dealing with people really wicked people and this happens a lot in the Bible where God will basically put a oppression on Israel and He'll state, you know, I was I was you know Roth with them a little but you went to basically I'm paraphrasing but basically like you've got you went too far you took it too far Right, which what you have to understand is that? Because they take it too far to you know Like if you're gonna let if you're gonna live for the world and you're gonna get the punishment of the Lord Well, sometimes that punishment comes and sometimes the people that are putting that punishment on you Go too far go farther than what God would want them to go But God's not like this puppet master where he's holding them back from everything Meaning that he even states in the Bible that that they go too far and that he's gonna punish him for going too far right That he basically caused Babylon to take out Israel or take out Judah but they went too far on how they did it and That's why you see the punishment of Babylon to where no one's gonna inhabit it So there's a there's a Nineveh is the same way with this area, but basically Assyria takes out northern Israel and Because when they took them out They they were the way they took him out was too far to the Lord, you know, basically then Nineveh was completely annihilated To the point there's no inhabitant and same thing with what the Calbee ends with Babylon and all that so Same kind of thing happens here is the idea that Saul was like telling to kill a himalek And the priests there, you know following these priests. He doesn't stop there Those keep reading there in verse 19. It says so he slew the the 85 persons and knob the city of the priests smote he with the edge of the sword both men and women and Children and sucklings and oxen and asses and sheep with the edge of the sword So he just literally went into town. Just just annihilated the town They didn't stop at the priests. No, he kept going and just killed everybody there And you think about this the Lord was detaining him This guy was already wicked. This guy was basically like just wanting To do this to do this type of stuff and the Lord was holding the back from it. Saul let him go Saul let him go and he went further than Saul even told him to do Now if he would have just done what Saul said, it would have been wicked as hell, right? It would have been horrible But to go that far You know, you can understand why Saul ends up dying the way he dies There is a sin unto death And I would say that that that definitely does it now obviously the Bible talked about too that he dies in battle Because he inquired of the witch, you know the witch in Endor but Think about all the stuff he did before that and that this this right here. I mean Definitely you can see Being just that he would die the way he dies now When it comes to Doeg the Edomite The reason I believe is bringing up Edomite is Because of what that nation entails what that means to be an Edomite now go to Malachi chapter 1 Malachi chapter 1 and it gets into this idea of Jacob have I loved but Esau have I hated and Esau The person I believe was a saved man. I don't believe he was a reprobate I don't believe they got hated Esau the person but when you're talking about Jacob have I loved but Esau have I hated We're talking about the nations. Okay, and when Jacob and Esau were in when they were in Rebecca's womb It talks about that there's two manner of people and two nations that are there now what you have to understand is that Those nations are an allegory for the children of God and the children of the devil Those that love God and those that hate the Lord. Okay, and when you look at this in Malachi 1 verse 1 It says the burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi I have loved you said the Lord yet you say wherein hast thou loved us was not Esau Jacob's brother said the Lord yet I love Jacob and I hated Esau and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness whereas Edom said we are impoverished and We will return and build a desolate places thus at the Lord of hosts they shall build but I will throw down and they shall call them the border of wickedness and The people against whom the Lord hath indignation forever So that's the dichotomy that you have now is everybody in Israel saved right? No, of course not, right? But the allegory there is that Edom you're dealing with those that God has indignation with forever, right? You're dealing with those that God hates and I believe that Edom that the reason that he Keeps being brought up that he's the Edomite the Edomite the Edomite is because it's kind of calling you to that fact that we're dealing with this cursed nation that he's of and That the Lord's detaining him he's being detained before the Lord and It's just like and David is gonna look at this guy and he's just gonna be like I knew it I knew that that was gonna happen. Look at verse 20 1st Samuel chapter 22 It says and one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub named Abiathar escaped and fled after David So one of the sons escaped from this slaughter It says an Abiathar showed David that Saul had slain the Lord's priests and David said in Abiathar I knew it that day when Dohag the Edomite was there That he would surely tell Saul Now why did he know that I believe the same reason why Jezebel Knew to find sons of Belial to accuse Naboth the Jezreelite Because what they do they bring up a false accusation, right and they end up killing him and She knew that there there's certain people that that's what their nature is And I believe David obviously a man after God's own heart he has discernment he knows that that guy's a bad guy that guy is gonna snitch that guy is a wicked person and He's looking back and just like I knew it I knew that guy was gonna do something I knew that was gonna I knew you know and so obviously he can't do anything about it now But notice what it says here, and he's kind of coming to terms with this that David It says in verse Verse the end of verse 22 there. It says I have occasioned the death of all the persons of thy father's house David is at a little at fault here Because he didn't really warn them He didn't tell him the truth he didn't tell him like the truth he told him that he's on some secret errand David should have just told him what's going on And you know what if Abiathar or I'm sorry if a himalek would have said hey You know I'm gonna turn you into the king. It's like well It is what it is but the idea here is that David's realizing like I caught it ultimately it's because David was there It's because of him like helped him and him like I mean you think about it if you would have just told him like like Hey, I know you fed me, and he gave me this but just so you know I'm on the run and Dave is about to he wants to kill me so you might want to watch out Might want to prepare yourself You know at least give him the heads up To where he's not just like going about his daily business like oh, I just helped David out No big deal there, and then this comes down on him And so Dave is not the one to pull the trigger so to speak, but obviously You know he it's this idea of Blood being on your hands because you don't warn somebody Ezekiel talks about this and the idea that if you warn somebody And let's say something bad happens to them. You know because they don't take the warning Well, then the blood's on their hands you warn them. That's all you can do same thing with soul winning, right? we can't win everybody, but we can warn them and If they don't get saved you know the blood's on their hands. We gave them an opportunity But if we don't warn them and this goes for preaching as well if I don't warn you about sin or about certain things That will get you into hot water or will cause you know Horrible things to happen to you if I don't warn you about it, and then you end up doing it The blood's on my hands So I believe that it kind of applies in that direction now Is that the same as the blood that's on Saul's hands no, right? There's obviously different levels as far as what you're dealing with there when it comes to accountability you know so You're not in the same accountability when it comes to that okay So but at the same time David recognizes like hey you know I I Set this up to where this could happen Right what I did and where I you know what I did over. You know with a himalek it wouldn't happen this would not have happened if you wouldn't went over there and And all that so, but I love this blast verse here In verse 23 says abide thou with me fear not For he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life But with me thou shalt be in safeguard and So David is basically taking him in it's like he's trying to kill me too, but with me. You'll be safe and I just think about this when it comes to the Lord and the fact that If they hated me they'll hate you If they try to if they kill Jesus they're gonna they want to kill us too, right? That's just as simple as that But with with God we have safeguard right we if God before us who can be against us and Go to Hebrew chapter 13 in verse 5 Hebrew chapter 13 in verse 5 Hebrew chapter 13 in verse 5 It says let your conversation be without covetousness And be content with such things as you have for he has said I will never leave thee nor forsake thee So that we may boldly say the Lord is my helper I will not fear what man shall do unto me And just having this peace that passes all understanding knowing that there's adversaries that are out there, right? There's a door of effectual open to us when it comes to soul winning, but knowing this is that there are many adversaries Then there's adversaries when it comes to soul winning. There's adversaries when it comes to preaching the Bible. There's adversaries for just living godly I Mean, like I said Cain killed Abel Because Cain's works were evil and his brothers righteous, right? That's crazy to think that that's That you'd be persecuted just for being good just for doing right, but it's the it's facts And so but with the Lord we have safeguard Just like with the I mean David I believe he did have safeguard but how much more with the Lord I think about this when it comes to like my children and the fact that obviously They're in safeguard when they're with me But safeties of the Lord and So ultimately, I will do everything I can to keep them safe, but I'm still human Right. There's there's still things that I can't stop Even if I would give my life for it, I still maybe not be able to stop it, right? but with the Lord their safety and This really comes down to Saul Saul Doesn't have the Lord on his side. He's he's a paranoid little girl. No offense to the girls out there But you know the Bible does talk about the fact of the men being like women You know in battle and it does come down to you know, the fact that that they are they're afraid, you know and all this stuff now so when it comes to Saul he's paranoid. He's afraid He's just it's like this phantom fear that's going on and the Lord's not with them The Lord is rejected to him from being king. The Lord's not upon him And then David on the other hand is being filled with the Spirit Because you know, it talks about how the Spirit of God came upon him from that day forward When he was anointed and you have David over here Who is safe and he can have boldness now David has times where he despairs But he encourages himself in the Lord and obviously a lot a lot of the Psalms you can kind of think about these times that he's Going through here where he is trusting in the Lord and not fearing what man shall do unto him and he constantly talking about adversaries that are like it's supposed to be his friends and all these different things and How we can apply that to our lives that hey, I want to have that peace that passes all understanding I want to have that boldness and The disciples prayed for boldness and When it comes to life, I don't know about you, but I just want to have I just want to be confident I want to be confident what I'm doing is right. I Want to have boldness that what I'm doing is right Because I don't want to go around the world. I don't want to live life in this state of fear and paranoia. I Want to live my life in a state of just like yeah what I'm doing is right and I don't have anything to worry about And if I suffer it's for righteousness sake You know, I don't be worried that I'm like doing something wrong and then I'm gonna get punished for it or whatever It's like anytime you think that you're doing something that's illegal. There's this state of worry, isn't there? Now obviously if you're doing something that's illegal, but it's illegal with the Word of God Then you can still have boldness right because hey, you know, God's laws Trump whatever supposedly illegal out there Right if they make it illegal to spank your children, for example Or they make it illegal to do certain things that are just straight-up told for you to do in the Bible Okay, that's what I'm talking about so This passage here is a is a horrific story when it comes to the 85 priests that were killed but then also all of the town of Knob that city of Knob and the fact that Men women children sucklings all the cattle basically just killed all I mean basically do I treated them like they amalekites And It's just interesting that that Saul couldn't kill ever, you know He couldn't do that when God tells him to do that But then he has this this wicked person doe egg come in and go beyond what Saul even tells him to do For example, I mean I don't even know if there's 85 priests worth of a Hemilex house, right? So think about this when he calls a him like he says you come up your father's house and the priests And when he says to follow him he tells him to fall on the priests But he has to understand that he's specifically talking about the house of a himalek So it's even further than that. I believe he kills like priests that maybe weren't even at the house of a himalek He just kills everybody and then he's just like I'm not done there I'm gonna go into this whole town and it's basically like this guy has been wanting to do he's been Who knows what he was doing there at the house of the Lord when when David was there? but he's just waiting for that leash to be taken off of them and Woe unto Christians to take the leash of the of the haters of God off to go after the saved And unfortunately, that's happens today That because you're because Christians are envious of Other Christians that are doing something for the Lord. They'll actually side with haters of God Just to be against us or to be against those that are serving the Lord and that's wicked to be Decide with the haters of the Lord And to use them Doesn't mean that the part that doesn't mean that that person is not saved but alright Saul You know Saul's life didn't end well and when people do that when you think about like, oh, you know these these, you know, these these Benjaminite Christians out there that are just like, you know just Cal town to the to the sodomite agenda or to you know, whatever is going on out there and They're just weak in there and they're actually coming against those that stand up for the truth and that are preaching, right? It's easy to get really mad at them and I'm not saying it's wrong to be mad at them Right because that you definitely have a cause But what you understand is that the Lord sees it When it comes to perverse judgment and all that the Lord knows what's going on there and When it comes to Saul, you know what David does? He doesn't take it into his own hands And there was a couple times there's a couple times that we'll see where he could have but he doesn't and He even states in the second time when when you know, he could kill Saul And he said he says no the Lord the Lord will do it Vengeance is mine said the Lord I will repay and We have to have that mindset that even those that are our enemies and those that are even saved that are enemies You know what? Just put just let the Lord deal with it And You know, I I believe the Lord he it takes faith obviously to know that the Lord regards that he sees that but I I'm actually scared for their sake When I think about that type of stuff when I think of like pastors and and Christians that are openly condemning men of God and Christians that stand up for the truth in this wicked and perverse generation that we live in When they are condemning them and basically siding with the enemy siding with haters of God All I can think it was like well on Because I mean the Lord has come at him, I don't know when But it's not gonna end well for them But I'm not gonna be the one that does it. I just let the Lord deal with it and That's a great lesson that we see with David is the idea of loving your enemies and To Let the Lord deal with it And the New Testament obviously hits on that as well That's why it's always funny when people are just like well the Old Testament says to hate your enemies. It's like where? Chapter and verse actually, I have a whole book here that we're going through to show you an example of a man for God's own heart loving his enemies and Almost to a fault actually when you get into the second book of Samuel there to where actually he needs to like You know love his friends too, right? So let's end with the word prayer the only father we think of today Thank you for your word. Thank you for the book of 1st Samuel I'm afraid you helped me to preach through it correctly and would help us to learn from it and to use it for our lives And Lord, we thank you that that we have safeguard with you that you are stronghold in a time of trouble and Lord that that we can Trust in you that you'll never leave us nor forsake us and that we we shouldn't fear What man can do unto us Lord because if you're for us who can be against us and Lord just help us to have That confidence help us Lord to walk In your spirit and to to keep your commandments as much as we can to be in peace with you And Lord just pray that you be with us throughout the rest of this week. I pray Specifically specifically that you be with with Paula Crandall and Lord that you would heal her be with her and Help her to get over This thing that's going on right now in the hospital and and Lord just pray that you'd be with us as we go back home Give those give us safety travel or safe travels and Lord.
