On this Wednesday evening to hear your word be preached and we sing praises to you Lord Lord we ask you to please bless our pastor as he comes forward to preach the message that you lay on his heart and Lord We ask you to give us all yours to hear and let us all be edified and Lord We love you in Jesus name you pray. Amen Amen So I forgot to mention there is a sign-up sheet back there So if you know, you're gonna compete in the chili cook-off You can sign up on the back there. So we'll leave that up again You don't have to sign up if you want to make up your mind the last minute and come with chili like skulk said he's Gonna do then it's no problem at all. And yeah, I forgot to turn my cell phone off again So, like I said, I don't follow my own. I don't follow my own advice. All right Let's see. So we're taking a break from the Old Testament this week next week probably maybe for a little bit I'm not sure how long to be honest But we're gonna deal with a subject here and that is the subject of speaking in tongues In 1st Corinthians chapter 14 is known as the great tongues chapter to those people that like to promote this gift that they think They have where they speak in an unknown tongue I'm pretty sure everybody in here knows I'm talking about right when I say speaking in tongues You've maybe seen the videos of the the Charismatics, you know, the what's that guy's name Kenneth Copeland? Benny hands, I mean they're all the basically not all but most of the TV evangelists claim to have this gift Tons of churches in this area are I mean they they either practice this or they're at least sympathetic towards those that do And I'll just tell you one of my my stories. I don't know if I brought this up here or not. I may have But I was stationed in New Orleans, Louisiana and it seemed like every church that we would go to You know, it'd be non-denominational right and you'd go you go through the service and at the very end They'd have an altar call and then all of a sudden it turned into a charismatic nightmare, you know just and it was the first time I was exposed to that while I was stationed there and we would often just go from Just keep going back to these churches because it just seemed like we just couldn't get away from it You know, I remember we went to one church for like a year before I finally learned the truth And that's by the way what happens when you remain ignorant, you know regarding the truth. They're in God's Word You just kind of put yourself through Torture and torment and things like that. And so, you know when I was younger, you know, we did that and we We would be like Asking the pastor so is this a Pentecostal Church? No. No, we're not Pentecostal. We're non-denominational There's just the Holy Spirit of God comes on us at the end of the service and it wasn't all the time Which was weird. It was probably a majority of the time and I remember him even saying like, you know I'm thinking about moving that altar call and the Holy Ghost service to like a special service for the core members You know because a lot of people get freaked out by it when they come in They don't know it and I'm like hmm. None of this stuff makes sense Eventually, I learned the truth and you know left and I was ashamed that I even belong to that Church for as long as we did But nonetheless, I remember towards the end of our time at this church I had to do some training in San Antonio. And so I figured wow, you know, I think John Hagee's a Baptist I'm gonna go I'm gonna go over there and I'm gonna go visit his church. So I went to the Sunday evening service I'll never forget it. I walked in there I picked a seat, you know kind of in the middle in the back kind of like how you guys do You know kind of center yourselves in the middle towards the back Right at the same thing and now this guy comes in and he taps me on the shoulder and he's like, excuse me, sir But I have to sit there And I was like where you know, and he's just like I have to sit right here And you know, I wasn't very polite back then I said is your name on the seat somewhere and he's just like oh You said something like you you'll see why I have to sit there in a minute, but I do have to sit there I sit there almost every service and you're gonna see at the end of the service wise. I like fine You know what? I'm a guest here. I don't want to start any trouble So I just got up and moved, you know, and I was ticked and so the service goes on John you know towards the end of the the service John Hagee son comes out and like preaches like a 10-minute sermon on something and Then all of a sudden the band comes out while he's finishing preaching his message, right? And the music kind of you know gets you in that mood, I guess right they start producing the feeling that we've been talking about You know, you know that worship style feeling right? They start getting the emotions going here. I'm like man. What's going on here? It's kind of sounds like the dirtbag church that I you know attended wasn't in Louisiana And all of a sudden John Hagee son starts babbling right and he's like Just like that, that's what it sounded like I'm like, oh man these guys too These guys too and that bozo that tapped me on the shoulder, right? He jumps out of his seat and he's like brethren Menini he goes on to to claim to interpret everything that this guy just said and guess what the message was about money Right, give me the money, you know, you can keep all your belongings you can keep your beliefs We don't care if you preach heresy. Just give me the money That is all this message was about and it was 2004 and I remember him thinking now Maybe this was 2003 and he's like 2004 is gonna require X amount of dollars to pay the bills and we got to protect our pastor because after the service John Hagee bounces out the back Door and gets in like an armored limo because somebody I guess tried to shoot him back in the day You know and and I guess the bookstore nor ATM in the lobby is not enough to Cover the expenses, but I just remember thinking like man. This can't be biblical, you know I was saved and I was just like I need to get to the bottom of this and so eventually, you know led me to the to the truth, but The this this this idea of speaking in tongues what the charismatic say and what a lot of people say They say it's a heavenly prayer language, right? and then and some of them even go as far as to say that if you're truly saved That the evidence that you're saved is that you'll speak in tongues, right? and what they say tongues are is basically the Holy Ghost takes over your body and Basically causes you to speak in this unknown babel. There's not a known language on earth, right? It's just this mystery language or a heavenly prayer language that only you or I'm sorry Only the Holy Spirit and God knows that way the devil can't listen in to your conversation Right, and so I mean that's blasphemous in and of itself, right? Because if you think about it, they're giving the devil way too much credit. It's like haven't you ever read job? I mean did not Satan have to go and ask permission to touch job did God not set boundaries and he listened He followed he knew right and so, you know, that's that's basically where it goes I'll just tell you right off the bat before we even get started. You're not gonna find one Single verse in the Bible that mentions anything about a heavenly prayer language this language That's net that's not a spoken language here on earth. That's just some mystical Holy Spirit given language that only you and God know Okay, doesn't it doesn't exist now In the Bible real quick where we're gonna go over this again here But the word tongue or tongues is either the organ in your mouth or it's a known language on this planet That's what tongues are. Okay. Now before we get into that and really Disproving it we're gonna go through several I think I have nine nine different points on when speaking in tongues would be unbiblical Okay so we're gonna go through that and then we'll get into what it actually is and then we're gonna get into the purpose and then Next week, we're gonna get into a little bit more of the meat of this doctrine and we're gonna answer commonly refuted verses We're gonna take the scriptures that are commonly twisted by these people at the door and we're gonna go through them So and also these these questions or these points that I'm gonna bring up my goal is to basically make a half sheet kind of like we we do with a prayer sheet and basically print these up with a scripture references not the whole verse but just References and then maybe laminate them give them to you guys so you could just keep them with you Maybe keep them in your Bible keep them handy either memorize them or just keep them to where you can call upon them because you Never know you get somebody saved and they're mixed up by the four square people or the Pentecostals and you know You can pull these out and just show them very clearly from the Bible why these things are wrong Okay, so you're there in 1st Corinthians chapter 14 We're gonna look at verse 23 now number one. When does speaking in tongues? Violate scripture. So when does speaking in tongues violate scripture number one when more than three? Speak during the church service. Okay, so When more than three speak during the church service look at 1st Corinthians chapter 14 verse 23 It says if therefore the whole church be come together into one place and all speak with tongues and there come in those that are Unlearned or unbelievers. Will they not say that you're mad now look at now jump down to verse 27 and says if any man speak in an unknown tongue Let it be by two or at the most by Three and that by course and let one interpret. So what is he saying there? He's saying if now keep in mind he's talking to the Corinthians here now We're the Corinthians in obedience to God not at all. The whole book is a giant rebuke to the Corinthian Church, right? So what they're doing here is not biblical at all and Paul's trying to set them straight And he says if any man speak in an unknown tongue Let it be by two or at the most by three, right? And then he says and then that by course meaning one at a time Right and he says one at a time because we need to let things be done decently and in order That's how God wants the service ran and then he says and let one interpret. Okay now I don't know if anybody here's ever watched a Pentecostal church service or a charismatic church service on TV, or maybe you've attended a service but Do they just have two or at the most three people speaking in tongues when that happens no, right? They usually have just random people throughout the service doing it right this. Oh the Holy Ghost fell upon me, right? I think I brought up a few weeks ago that video the Holy Ghost hokey-pokey, right the Holy Ghost hokey-pokey I forgot what the church name was there that promotes that it's not important. But basically during that right? It's the same thing to get the music going right? They try to rile up your flesh get your your emotions up high and then they basically Hypnotize you into thinking that the Holy Ghost is taking over your body this and that and people start You know twirling around like like like idiots and they start babbling and this so-called tongues language That's basically a church service that that's basically a Pentecostal church service. That's what it is But what I want you to understand here is that when more than three speak at a church service they are in Violation of scripture now who here wants to go to a church that's in violation of Scripture and this is just one Could probably show you a ton and like I said, we have nine but this is one So when somebody comes up to you and they said hey, hey brother, you got the spirit you got the spirit Hmm Holy Ghost fall upon you. Does your church worship right? Do you have the spirit? Do you guys speak in tongues? You know at our church We have all kinds of people that speak in tongues Ask that person will do they all do it during the same church service and they're gonna tell you yes More than likely that's what they're gonna say and then you can bring them right here It says if any man speaking in an unknown tongue, let it be by two or at the most by three and that by course Right in that by course meaning at their turn and let one interpret meaning to explain what the heck the guy is saying Right. That's what he's talking about here. All right, so let's move on here number two When does speaking in tongues violate Scripture so we already got number one, right when more than three speak at a service number two when women do the speaking When women do the speaking, okay, you say are you a chauvinist? Are you a feminine? Are you a you hate? Ladies, no, look at verse 34 It says let your women keep silence in the churches for it is not permitted unto them to speak But they are commanded to be under obedience as also Sayeth the law. So what does Paul do here? He cites Scripture He cites the written word as his authority to basically tell them. Hey, let your women keep silence now I don't care who you are I'm willing to bet that just about any charismatic any Pentecostal service has women that do the tongue speaking Joyce Meyer Does she not speak in tongues Beth Moore? I don't know for sure, but I think she's one of them who else Paula White Right. She speaks in tongues. Who else? Anybody know any of these other false woman prophets surprised should have looked him up But you know, there's so many of these days. This is like just take your pick right? Just take your pick Just look at the TBN crowd the the televangelist types, right? But you know what? There's a lot of female co-pastors around here that claim to speak in tongues We've talked to them out solely and they'll bring that up In fact, we were so any what a couple months ago member that lady at Pentecostal II, you know, we knock on her door Right. We're believers from Christians. I think brother David told her that BAM shuts the door before she yells. I'm a Pentecostal damn I mean, what is that the love of God? Huh, is that how you we show Christ we love him by slamming the door on other Christians faces But these but what this doctrine does is it leads to arrogance right because these people aren't reading the Bible They're trusting in this false So-called revelation that some bozo claims to have that he's getting from God and we'll get more into that here in a minute But number two when women do the speaking, okay And I'm telling you right now all just about all charismatic services have women that speak in tongues, right? So now we're up to two violations of scriptures who wants to go to a church where they have two violations of scriptures And these are major offenses. I mean, this is very clear. This is crystal clear Look, we're not always gonna agree on every single doctrine, right? I mean or every single little point or interpretation I should say okay, but this is pretty darn clear. I didn't write this This is God's Word and I'm not saying that women don't have anything intelligent to say In fact, they probably have more intelligent things to say than we do but nonetheless God has ordained this to be so and when you violate it, you're violating his word You're saying you don't matter to me. I don't care what you have to say. I know better Okay, so number two when women do the speaking All right So number three when does speaking in church in tongues at church or in general violate scripture? Number three is when the speaker Interprets for Himself look at verse 27 So when the speaker interprets for himself verse 27 says if any man in an if any man speak in an unknown tongue Let it be by two or at the most by three and that by course and let one Interpret like verse 28, but if there be no interpreter let him keep silence in the church and let him speak to himself and to God I've been you know, I've been to a lot of these these types of things. I've seen them on TV I've watched them a lot of times these church services some guy will just randomly pop up during the service You know or during the music or during the announcements and it was blue blue blue You know just just rattle off these false words and it's always like the same five words Just over and over and over again mixed with just random sounds and it always sounds like Hebrew ish You know what? I mean that's that's what always sounds like and then that guy or that gal will then proceed to Interpret what he just said, right? That's unbiblical according to the Bible So if you have the gift of speaking in tongues and keep in mind There's no such thing as heavenly prayer language if you claim to have that gift You would be in violation of Scripture if you interpret yourself He says but if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church and let him speak to himself and to God Okay number four When There is no Interpreter look at verse 28 again It says but if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church and let him speak to himself and God So number three number four very similar, right? So when the speaker interprets for himself, there's a violation of Scripture and when there is no interpreter Then in the guy attempts to do the same thing that guess what he's in violation of Scripture that Church is violating God's Word so now we're up to four Okay And I know three and four very similar but it's important because you're gonna find both scenarios at sure at these types of churches For example on Wednesdays when there's not that many people around right a lot of times one guy It's usually the same guy the same gal will pop up and claim to do this babbling and then interpret it for himself or they'll Just sit down and say the spirits not ready tonight for you guys here. You'll it'll be revealed at a later time I've seen that as well. Okay, so that would be number four when there is no interpreter at all Somebody just just you know runs off the mouth and starts babbling and it doesn't explain what he's saying. Okay, that's that That's unbiblical. That's a violation of Scripture and that's a big deal. So I mean, I mean think about this stuff, you know These things are in the Bible for a reason and I mean we just just started this We've just started this and seen four major things that all of these churches do that they all violate But yet when you bring this up to a lot of them, what are they saying? Well, you're misinterpreting the Bible right? That's a lot of times what they'll say you're misinterpreting the Bible or you doubt God, right? I've heard that one numerous times. You're saying that God can't do this. I never said that look. It's like look I'll play your game. God could turn you into a cheeseburger if you wanted to Right. I mean God could just make you vanish if you wanted to he's all-powerful. We understand that we're not limiting God What we're simply doing is pointing to the Bible in what it says as the authority and they don't like that And you know why because that lifts up God over man, right they want their revelations. They want their acts They want their righteous so-called righteous deeds to be made manifest in the congregation and a lot of times these these guys that pop Up and claim to speak in tongues. They'll be like, you know Oh God's so happy of what all the ham sandwiches we gave out downtown last year and we need to give out more and Guess why money we need money. It's always back. It always goes right back to that dollar Every single time and look not against money. We need money to run the church But when it's every single revelation for God is like come on, you know you if you read the Bible from front to back It's not all about money right and which is by the way another indication that they don't read the Bible All right, so let's move on here number five When the speaking of tongues violate Scripture when there is confusion look at verse 33 When there is confusion First Corinthians 14 33 says for God is not the author of Confusion but of peace as in all churches of the Saints and then jump down to verse 40. Let all things be done decently and in order now if you don't agree with me, I challenge you to just go watch a service just watch a Pentecostal charismatic type church service what you're gonna find is a bunch of people doing the hokey-pokey rolling around the aisles Flapping their mouths claiming to speak in tongues, right? And what does that tell you that that's confusion if you've ever been a part of the service and praise God if you have not Been but if you ever did or if you ever have you know It's nothing but confusion because people are just just babbling and crying and screaming That's confusion and God is not the author of that Right. God is not the author of that You know what else this reminds me of is these these camp meetings that I don't know if anybody's seen the videos that Pastor McMurtry's had out right about these camp meeting singers what they do They'll be singing a song and all of a sudden they just start screaming and crying. Guess what? That's confusing Songs were made to be saying, okay They weren't made to be you know Stopped in the middle of and then just break down and screaming and and by the way What does that produce that produces these buzzes to run around the aisles jump in the baptistries and do all these weird acts? That's confusing That's a violation of scripture. That is bad. That is wrong. That is not okay That's no different than these pedicastal bozos So number five when the speaking in tongues violates scripture when it causes Confusion and I will tell you right now. It causes great confusion in these churches because nobody does what's being said You know, I sometimes I wonder if the person even doing the speaking understands what really if they understand like hey, you know You're probably possessed There's a strong possibility there. All right, let's move on we got to get through these here number six number six windows speaking in tongues violate scripture number six is when self-control is lost when self-control is lost look at verse 32 and the spirits of the prophets are subject Unto the prophets. Okay, so read that again. What does it say and the spirits of? The prophets are subject to the prophets turn to Romans chapter 8 keep your place there, but turn to Romans chapter 8 now Go talk to a charismatic Here's what they're gonna tell you. Yeah, okay Just go up to him and say hey explain to me what this speaking in tongues is what like what exactly happens? You know what they're gonna tell you they're gonna say, okay. Well during the service the Holy Ghost He comes down on the church service, right? He comes down on the service and he fills people up with the spirit, you know people that are saved He basically takes over the service and then people he gives people utterance Okay, he gives people this utterance and then that's revelation from God That's what they'll say and and then you ask them. Do you have any control of that say? Oh, no, it's all God It's all the Holy Ghost. He basically he takes over your whole volition He takes over your whole countenance and basically makes you do that. That's what they'll tell you mark my words That is what they teach. That is what they say But what does the Bible say it says and the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets So if there's a spirit taking over people's bodies in a church service You're in violation of Scripture if you're to even if that's not the case, but that's what you're saying Then you are in violation of Scripture. So back to this heavenly prayer language garbage Romans chapter 8 look at verse 26 It says likewise Romans chapter 8 verse 26 Likewise the spirit also help with our infirmities for we know not what we should pray for as we are But the spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which can not be uttered I Don't know what it is But every time I get into us a discussion with a Pentecostal they want to bring you to Romans chapter 8 verse 26 And say see this here is an example of the Holy Ghost taking over your body in praying for you because we don't know how We ought not to pray, but there's one Big huge problem with that and that's the end of the verse what part of the end of the verse do you not understand? It says look at the semicolon It says but the spirit itself maketh intercession for us, right and then they'll stop there and then they'll say with groaning see And that's why they're up there Like a bunch of possessed zombies, okay, but what they don't they don't ever read past groanings which says which cannot be uttered Which cannot be uttered It's like I've heard these these these these pastors try to defend them the this garbage doctrine and Every time that they're forced to read this verse even in a modern version the tone of their voice drops considerably, and you know why? Because they know that what they're reading contradicts the point. They're trying to make okay The Holy Ghost does not take over anybody's volition anybody's body anybody's spirit and make them speak to the congregation It doesn't happen you're not gonna find that at least not in our day, okay You're not going to find that at all here So this idea of using Romans chapter 8 verse 26 to prove your point of a heavenly prayer language is a bad idea Because that's not what the verse is talking about at all It's basically saying you know the spirit helps us because we really don't know how to pray you know it makes intercession for us So who's doing the praying us with a spirit? Okay, and it's silly It's it's just it's this is mind-blowing, but leave your place there Go to Hebrews chapter 1 Hebrews chapter 1 so when The speaking in tongues violates scripture number six when self-control is lost because in 1st Corinthians 14 32 It says and the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets so the Prophet has the choice Right has the choice to either listen to the spirit or not and we see that through the Bible I mean didn't Jonah try to reject that I mean a lot of times the prophets would be like oh I know I'm supposed to speak the truth, but I don't you know, but they wouldn't do it so More on that later like I said, this is just a very basic overview tonight And we're gonna come back and and go through these again We're gonna review these and then we're gonna basically take what people say about these and explain that as well, so Let's move on here number seven when does speaking in tongues violate scripture point number seven is when it results in new Revelation when it results in new revelation, or I guess you could say when it contradicts the Bible Which a lot of times it does not always look down at Hebrews chapter 1 look at verse number 1 It says God who at sundry times and in diverse manners Spaken times past unto the fathers by the prophets verse 2 hath in these last days Spoken unto us by his son whom he hath appointed heir of all things by whom also He made the worlds now go to Revelation chapter 22 So the Bible says that in these last days God has spoken to us by the Lord Jesus Christ Right and we know that he is the word and we're gonna go over those verses here in a little bit. So My question is why are people teaching the opposite? Why are they saying that they're getting new revelation today? Because every every Pentecostal service claims to get new revelation You know, who else does that the Mormons, you know, who else does that the Catholics, you know, who else does that the Muslims? I mean take your pick. I Mean take your pick and by the way, that is a hallmark of a cult When you have to go to a physical man another sinner to get your revelation. I Mean think about it. We talked to a guy on what was it Saturday a Mormon guy? I mean he's all in the Mormon Church and he told us what Russell Nelson says which is their prophet their apostle They're their chief dog over there in Utah. What he says goes what he says trumps the Bible He told us that and I thanked him Hey, thank you for being honest with me because a lot of these other people out here just won't But how is that different than being a Pentecostal? Right. The only difference is they just have people that pop up, you know, like like little Moles in their service and just spout stuff off and then they claim to interpret it or they have somebody else interpret it You know and then all this is new revelation from God. This is gonna be a great year You know as long as we give our dough you give them you give us enough money, you know We're gonna have a good year. It always goes back to that but the Bible says something different The Bible says that when it results in new revelation, it's not in here, right? That's not from Jesus Christ that you're in violation of Scripture So revelation 22 look at verse 18 He says for I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book If any man shall add unto these things God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in This book and I've heard people say well, this is just talking about revelation and it's true He is talking about the book of Revelation but there's tons of other scriptures that we could point you to that would Tell you that God doesn't take it too kindly when people change his words, okay So this applies to the entire Bible here God is not happy with anybody that would change his word and I'm telling you a lot of times That's what they're doing. They're changing the word. I've heard these people You know pop up and babble in this tongue stuff and then translate this message and what are they saying? We got it. We got to make sure that people that come in here repent of their sins, you know, that's another big one Right. Well that didn't come from God that didn't come from Jesus Christ that clearly contradicts the Bible that clearly contradicts the Bible so let's move on here go back to You know what go to 1st Corinthians chapter 12 for this next one go to 1st Corinthians chapter 12 So point number seven is when it results in new revelation So if you go into a church and they have some new revelation, you know the watchtower, you know Basically the watchtower society right isn't out. That's the Jehovah Witnesses right in the watchtower society Yeah, when they release their their newsletter and or or what do they what do they have apostles anybody know? That's some kind of a council up there. It's more devil's right more and more and more apostates You know when they release some new interpretation of the Bible guess what that's they're in violation of Scripture They're in violation of God's Word So let's move on here number eight when does speaking in tongues violate Scripture number eight when everyone is Exhorted to seek the gift of tongues so when everyone is told that they can have the gift of tongues when everyone is Pushed to try to seek the gift of tongues. That's a violation of Scripture If you don't believe me first Corinthians chapter 12 look at verse number eight. It says four to one is This yeah first Corinthians 12 8 4 to 1 is given by the spirit the word of wisdom to another the word of knowledge by The same spirit verse 9 to another faith by the same spirit to another The gifts of healing by the same spirit to another the working of miracles to another prophecy to another discerning of spirits to another diverse diverse kinds of tongues to another the interpretation of tongues But all these worketh that one and the self same spirit dividing to every man Severally as he will now where in that passage does it say that tongues is the most important gift? Where does it say that that's evidence that you're saved? Where does that say that everyone should be exhorted to seek the gift of tongues now? I think it's Kenneth Copeland that has a book out on the market that that claims a it will teach you how to speak in tongues and It's it's basically this Mormon garbage. You know well. I mean think about it What do the Mormons always say here read the Book of Mormon? You'll get a burning in your bosom, and that's how you'll know it's true right right back to the feelings That's what the devil does he plays on emotions. He's concerned about the flesh, and how you feel right? It's the same thing that they do that That's the same thing the Pentecostals do right and that's probably what that book says I haven't read it But I'll bet you if you were to read it It's probably got a lot to do with making sure that you get you know in tune with the music probably going up to the Front and basically putting yourself in a hypnotic state, and they probably don't use those words But basically getting you to that hypnotic states where you open yourself up to who knows what? Right and what else this does is it makes people fake? Because you get involved into one of these churches Everybody seems to be doing it and they look down on you because you don't have this gift because it's not available It's the whole thing's false right and so what happens is a lot of people Then we'll just begin to fake it so they can fit in right so that's another thing that you're gonna find a lot With this gift now look at verse number 28 1st Corinthians 12 28 says and God has set some in the church first apostles secondarily prophets thirdly teachers after that miracles then gifts of healings helps governments and Diversities of tongues now look at verse 31 But covet earnestly the best gifts and yet show I unto you and more Excellent way so at the end of the list in verse 28 What does it say Diversities of tongues meaning diversity is language It's the last one mentioned right and he says hey But covet earnestly the best gifts and yet I show you a more excellent way So what man does what the Pentecostals do is they lift up speaking in tongues up here above everything right above all doctrine above all truth Right, but the Bible says no no no it's down here You guys have it wrong, and they don't want to see that they don't want to admit to it because they like human Humanity and their human achievement doctrine right over the truth. That's what it boils down to that's all it Is it always goes back to pride it always goes back to what we do look how much God loves me He gave me the special language that nobody else has and you know what else that doesn't make some respect for persons That's another thing that they promote. Oh, well. I don't know why you don't have a brother, but I do it's like Talking about you guys are crazy All right, we got to move on here last one So number eight remember when everybody is exhorted to have this gift or to seek it. It's a violation of Scripture So when you knock on the Pentecostals door is like you know really pushing us on you in saying You know if you don't have you're not saved or our whole church You know they seek it or they have it we should all have it It's evidence That's a violation of Scripture because nowhere in the Bible does it does it lift it up above the other gifts and nowhere in the Bible are we told to seek that the Bible says it, but to cover prophesying right cover a covet If you're gonna cover something cover something righteous covets something that's good like preaching Right and that's something that we can all come Even the ladies because you can go out and knock on people's doors and preach the gospel Which is a whole lot more than these fools are doing So number nine number nine. This is the last one that I have for you right now When the speaking tongues violate Scripture number nine when it does not edify the church when it does not edify the church So back to first Corinthians 14 look at verse number four First Corinthians 14 look at verse number four He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifyeth himself But he that prophesyeth edifyeth the church I would that ye all spake with tongues But rather that ye prophesied for greater is he that prophesyeth Than he that speaketh with tongues except he interpret that the church may receive edifying So that's why I said number nine is when it does not edify the church and a lot of times when these people have these Special music altar calls and everybody's just doing this kind of stuff and a lot of times. There's no interpretation or now They're just babbling in there and they're they're fake language and nobody's interpreting which violates number point number four that I gave you Right, that's what's going on The Bible says that doesn't edify anybody if I just start coming up here and I start speaking French to you, right? That's not gonna edify you if I start speaking any languages you all don't understand that doesn't edify you because you don't know What's wrong and who does that remind you of? Catholic Church Right, don't they have those Latin services? Yeah, they do they do right they I remember when I was in the military just to get out of doing KP I would often go to whatever service I could you know and a lot of times it was a Catholic service and guess what the Guy was up there. Just I guess speaking Latin and I just said that I'm like, well, this is cool Cuz I don't have to listen to anything he's saying, you know, I could just sit here and not do peal potatoes or whatever it is But that's a violation of Scripture because nobody in there spoke Latin These guys don't speak any Latin and I kind of wonder if that guy does either I just wonder if he listens to an audio tape kind of like storm did in there and memorize some words and then come up And just spit him out. I don't know but either way it doesn't edify the church. And so it's a violation of Scripture Now jump down to verse number 12 It says even so ye for as much as he are zealous of spiritual gifts Seek that you may excel to the edifying of the church, right? So don't ever let somebody say this is kind of a rat a little bit of a rabbit trail Don't let somebody come up to you and say hey, you know, you just don't have any gifts, right? You you just maybe you just don't have it. Maybe you just don't not good enough for the ministry Maybe you're just whatever it doesn't matter because here Paul saying hey seek that she may excel at edifying So it is something that you can do to you I mean you can seek that means you have to look it means you have to study means you have to practice Right, you have to be talking with people you have to get biblical knowledge so that you can edify somebody. That's what he's saying It's not just oh, you know, you know only I have this gift or I don't have this gift of edifying, right? We should all seek to edify every one of us now Some people are more gifted in that area than others, right? But nonetheless, even those people that are gifted in that they have to put it to practice For example, if you don't come to church, how are you going to edify people in church? What are you gonna do it? We're gonna send me a text message later. You know, I mean, how's that? That's that's not seeking to edify. But let's move on here jump down to verse 26 Verse 26 how is it then brethren when you come together every one of you hath a psalm? Hath a doctrine hath a tongue hath a revelation hath an interpretation Let all things be done on to edifying. Okay turn to Deuteronomy chapter 28 Deuteronomy chapter 28 So number nine When does speaking in tongues violate scripture and they said when it does not Edify the church you're gonna find that in all kinds of services You know what else that reminds me of the Christian rap You can't understand what they're saying half the time same with the Christian rock You can't understand the words that come out of their mouth, right? So how is that supposed to edify but that's definitely another sermon for another time So let's move on here. And like I said, we're gonna go over these nine things again briefly next week I'm gonna have I have that sheet for you And and we'll go over that and we'll kind of go over some Things that people might come at you with with some of those scriptures. So just keep that in mind We will revisit it. So we're gonna move on here now We've already done the violation to scriptures. I mean think about it. That's not okay And if you can show somebody who is honest nine of these things and they still want to argue You're wasting your time going any further at that point. All right, you really are But but like I said, these aren't designed to necessarily to bash people but there are people out there that are Legitimately and genuinely confused you get somebody saved right and and then now they're thinking like, okay Well, what about all this other stuff though, right? And did they have something they have could they have questions? They have honest questions and guess what you can be the one to straighten them out I mean, it's these things are crystal clear. These are gross Violations of God's Word, you know and let me just say this too You read the book of Corinthians here you read chapter 14. They weren't claiming to have some special prayer language it doesn't even mention that they're rolling around in the aisles and barking like dogs and Doing the Holy Ghost hokey-pokey or any of that stuff So it was messed up as the Corinthians were at least a lot of them are saved At least they were just messed up using the real gift which is languages. All right, so just keep that in mind This what we have today is worse than what you're eating here. All right, so All right, what are tongues in the Bible I mentioned this at the beginning of the sermon I'm just gonna give you one verse for each Each thing here and number one is languages. So what are tongues in the Bible? I said there are languages or the organ in your mouth. Here's an example Deuteronomy 28. Look at verse 49 Deuteronomy chapter 28 verse 49 it says the Lord shall bring a nation against thee from far from the end of the earth as Swift as the eagle flyeth a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand It like I said you do a search on the word tongs the word tongue in the Bible It's languages or the organ in your mouth. Okay, this is just one verse just one quick example turn to Judges chapter 7 Judges chapter 7 You're not gonna find this heavenly prayer language garbage anywhere in the Bible it doesn't exist It's made up it's false. It's straight from hell and you know what? That's where a lot of these teachers that promote this stuff are going. I mean, let's look. Let's just face it right now People that promote speaking in tongues, you know what you're gonna find you're gonna find women preachers You know what you're gonna find repent of your sins, you know what you're gonna find the rock and roll music You know what? You're gonna find emotionalism and all sorts of heresies. You're gonna find ecumenical ISM I mean you're gonna find just just nothing but biblical violations that I haven't even brought up yet Alright, so just keep that in mind where this heavenly prayer language tongues doctrine is is supported or practiced You're gonna find a lot of heresies and like the the proverb says where there's smoke There's fire and that's the case with this doctrine. So Number one, what are tongues in the Bible? They are languages number two. It is the organ in your mouth Judges chapter 7 look at verse number 5 so he brought down the people into the water and the Lord said unto Gideon everyone that Lapith of the water with his tongue as a dog lapith him shalt thou set by himself Likewise everyone that boweth down upon his knees to drink So here's just a an example that you can go to to show somebody. Hey, here's just two quick examples Here's uh, I mean you go to it. We're gonna go to turn to Acts chapter 2 I mean, they're all throughout the Bible right just know a place to go to show somebody Hey, this is either a language or the organ in your mouth, right? It's never taught in the Bible that there's a secret language that the Holy Ghost Basically makes you say and it's a prayer that only God and you know And that the devil cannot interfere with that is just blasphemous to say the least So let's continue on here though with what our tongues according to the Bible Acts chapter 2 is a great place to go To show this gift in action here. So Acts chapter 2. Let's go through some of these verses here Look at verse number 1 it says and when the day of Pentecost was fully come they were all with one accord in one place and suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a Rushing mighty wind and it filled the or filled all the house Where they were sitting and there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire and has sat upon each of them verse 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance So in this instance, he's giving them utterance, right? He's actually giving them language and you know what that's used for to preach the gospel. That's what it's for Okay. Now what I'd like to bring up to these Pentecostal people and say well Okay, if the Holy Ghost comes down on your church service, where's the where's the tongues of fire? Do you see them? Well, that was just an axe yeah exactly Exactly pal exactly. Look at verse 5 and there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews devout men out of every Nation under heaven. So you've got every nation under having you have Jews right and keep in mind These people are gathered there. They don't all speak the same language Right. And so when it says a verse for they're all filled the Holy Ghost began to speak with other tongues What the what the charismatic wants you to believe is okay, they're spill there. They're filled with the Holy Ghost and all of us and they just go I Need $100 by tonight Cash from each and every one of you. Otherwise God's gonna be you know, that's that's that's just not what's going on here It's basically just summing up this event here. They're filled with the Holy Ghost They begin to preach the gospel. Okay, there's a lot of stuff that's happening here But what they do is they just want you to see the here and now and say see we're exactly doing that The Holy Ghost takes over our service and people get filled with the Holy Ghost and all of a sudden Hey, they speak in tongues, right? not not what's going on here verse 6 it says now when this was noised abroad the multitude came together and were Confounded because that every man heard them speak in his own language All right, now what I'd like to do is ask some of these pastors around here that promote this garbage What language do you speak a lot of times when you back them into the corner? Here's what to do I've they'll say I don't know what language I speak, but I heard it's like a distant African language It always goes back to Africa right because they know we're not gonna go down there and try to find out We try to find out well, which is I like to you, you know What you should do is say, I don't know maybe call up a language expert or find somebody that speaks this and say hey I just want to put your gift to the test, right? You're pretty bold Are you you're pretty confident in your your gift of the Holy Spirit? Let's let's go take your tongue and let's go to a language specialist. Somebody who actually speaks different dialects of Afrikaans go talk to brother skulk and you see if you can communicate with them See what let's see what happens. They're gonna shy away from it every single time and then they're gonna go back Well, it's a prayer language. It's like wait a minute I thought you I thought it was an unknown tongue like an unknown language. Well, it depends on what the spirit does, right? They're always gonna play that garbage at you and don't let them don't let them don't let anybody back out of this corner here This is the Bible. They claim to be Christians. They claim to be Bible believing Christians They claim to read the Bible and that's their authority, right? So make them stick to the authority Don't let them bring you outside The box there because that's when it can get dangerous. You always go back to the verses This is the authority never let somebody take you away from that because that's how people wind up getting their clocks cleaned Okay Verse number seven and they were all amazed and marveled saying one to another behold are not all these which speak Galileans, right? So these guys are like what's going on here? Aren't these just Galileans? How do we hear them in our own language our own tongue verse 8 and how we hear every man in our own tongue We're in we were born and then in verse 9 it explains that it says Parthians and Medes and Elamites and dwellers of Mesopotamia and in Judea and Cappadocia and Pontius and Asia verse 10 in Phrygia and Pamphylia in Egypt and in parts of Libya about Cyrene and strangers of Rome Jews and proselytes Right proselytes, so they're converts as well verse 11 Crete's and Arabians. We do hear them speak our tongues What are they speaking the wonderful works of God? That's what they're hearing. They're not hearing a message about needing $1,000 to feed people ham sandwiches or malt oatmeal, which they're not giving out by the way They're just taking the money and buying jets buying cars trying to live the Todd White lifestyle right growing their dreadlocks out That's all it's about. It's about the physical appearance. It's about the cash. It's a money grab. It's what it is It's a hypnotic money grab. These people are professional liars. They're professional Hypnotists, they're very good at what they do They're very good at controlling people and getting people to do what they want them to do, which is give me the dough man Just give me all your toe All right verse 12 It says and they were all amazed and were in doubt saying one to another what meaneth this Others mocking said these men are full of new wine now these people that are mocking They're not mocking because they don't understand the words that are being spoke because everybody here Here's their own tongue being spoken by the Galileans. Does that make sense? Right? That's what they're hearing, right? They're mocking the message They're mocking the wonderful works of God. They're mocking this this this thing that it is foreign to them, right? These people have traveled afar. They haven't heard what's gone on yet. Maybe and and here they're there. They're preaching the gospel They're telling about the wonderful works of God which by the way is the resurrection right the death barrel and resurrection of Jesus Christ You don't think that was being spoken of here. You're out of your mind You are out of your mind But what they'll do is they'll say see here in verse 13 which says other mocking they were mocking because they didn't understand a gift They didn't understand that prayer language man. That's why they were mocking. No, they're mocking the message They're speaking languages that are known on this planet Right, what are they speaking the wonderful works of God see the Holy Ghost is basically Summarizing an event that happened here and we have to understand it. Let's move on here verse 14 But Peter standing up with the 11 lifted up his voice and said unto them ye men of Judea and all that dwell at Jerusalem Be this known unto you and harken to my words for these are not Drunken as you suppose seeing it is but the third hour of the day verse 16 He explains but this is that which is spoken by the Prophet Joel See it always goes back to the Word of God That is their authority not some bozo that just pops up in a service starts rambling something off, right? It always goes back to the written word the authority of God verse 17 And it shall come to pass in the last day say if God I will pour out of my spirit Upon all flesh and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy and your young men shall see visions and your old men shall dream dreams and on my On my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my spirit and they shall prophesy and I will show Wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath blood and fire and vapor of smoke The Sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before that great and notable day of the Lord come And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved look at verse 22 It says he men of Israel hear these words Jesus of Nazareth a man approved right a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and Signs which God did by him in the midst of you as ye yourselves know now Go back to Hebrews chapter 1 I should have told you to keep your place there But we already already read these verses, but let's let's read them again here With verse 22 in mind, so what is Peter telling them? He's saying hey you men of Israel hear these words, right? Hear these words what words the words that he's saying which come from God But he's they're also supported by the written word in Joel, right and he says Jesus of Nazareth a man Approved of God among you so our source of truth our source of revelation should always come from Jesus Christ Right who is the Word of God, which is the Bible? Not some pastor not Russell Nelson Not the Pope not the watchtower society or or the seventh-day Adventist headquarters. No, it's Jesus Christ It's the written word That's what is approved for your truth, right? That is the source that is the source of truth and Peter's saying that hey hear these words Hear these words a man approved of God unto you. Okay now first number one Hebrews 1 1 again says God who has sundry times and in diverse manners spake in times past unto the fathers by The prophets hath in these last days spoken unto us by his son whom he hath appointed heir of all things by whom also he made the world verse 3 who being in the brightness of his glory and the expressed image of his person and Upholding all things by the word of his power When he had by himself purge our sin sat down on the right hand of the majesty on High you could leave your place there and go to John chapter 1 So what does the writer of Hebrews tell us is our source of truth. It's the Word of God He says the Word of God has power. He says that Jesus upholds all things. That means the preservation of his word Right. That's what it's talking about. The written record is powerful These words have power this this the stuff that these people in these meetings claim to say in their new revelation Do they write that down? No, I asked the Mormon that on Saturday. I said so you get you I said, alright So look, let me just get this straight. You're claiming you get new revelation from Russell Nelson, right? He said yes I said, where does it come from? He says it comes from God the Father comes from Elohim as what he said, okay I said so, you know back in the Old Testament and when God spoke through these prophets I mean they they wrote this stuff down I mean Do you guys keep track of these new messages that you get and he says yeah through newsletters and I said does that Trump the Bible? He said yes, it does That's what he said. Yes, it does and I will tell you the charismatic is no different. It's just a different Avenue It's just a different Avenue of approach. It is no different Right the goal of the charismatic movement this ecumenical garbage is to get you away from that which is approved Which is the written word, that's the goal It's to steal your heart your mind and your soul away from God's Word So while you're turning to John chapter 1 I'm read for you a verse out of John 15 Which says this but when the Comforter is come whom I will send unto you from the Father even the Spirit of truth Which proceedeth from the Father he shall testify of me So Jesus said that the Holy Spirit is going to testify of him We know that he is the work. We know that he is this written record here that we have today But what does the charismatic say? What does the tongue talker say? They say the exact opposite right and what they do is they elevate the Holy Ghost above Jesus Christ But the Bible says very clearly that the Holy Ghost will point you back to Jesus and in these Pentecostal services That's not what you find. That is not what you find Everything's old Holy Ghost the the Holy Ghost hokey pokey, right the Holy Ghost heavenly prayer language The Holy Ghost is everything's about the Holy Ghost and they they distract you from the truth their Holy Ghost What they claim as a Holy Ghost does not point you to the Bible It does not point you to Jesus Christ does it which is another violation of Scripture? John chapter 1 quick review look at verse 1 in the beginning was the word and the word is with God and the word was God Jump down to verse 14 and the word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory The glory as of the only begotten of the Father full of grace and truth So very clearly the Bible teaches that Jesus is the word we have the word today To say otherwise to say that he can't preserve it means you're denying so many scriptures you denying Hebrews chapter 1 You're denying all of John you're denying the whole book Okay That's what you're doing And that's what these people do when they claim that we have the heavenly prayer language the Holy Ghost comes and takes over our services And gives them what gives them new revelation Yeah, you know and I've been I've seen so many of these things and what do they always do? I'll tell you they always lift up the Holy Ghost above Christ. That's every single time every single time Hey, do you got the spirit? Do you have the indwelling do you have the baptism in the Holy Ghost? Well when you get it saved and you turn from all your sins you get the baptism of the Holy Ghost But now you got to get the baptism in the Holy Ghost. That's what they'll tell you again complete ignorance complete Stupidity so real quick. We're almost done here I just want to quickly take a look at the purpose of tongues go back to 1st Corinthians 14 Go back to 1st Corinthians chapter 14 real quick Let's take a quick peek here and like I said we're gonna review a lot of this stuff next week because it's gonna be important What are the purpose of Tom we already saw in Acts chapter 2 the purpose was to magnify Jesus Christ It was to proclaim the mighty works of God Not this secret language between man and God that only the that you and him know and the devil doesn't get not in the Bible Anywhere, right? The devil's not on my present. Okay, he's not everywhere all the time He can't be he can move pretty fast and we don't get it We don't understand the mechanics of that right but nonetheless, he's not everywhere all the time He's not gonna be at Moses's house and brother Adrian's house at the same time. It's not gonna happen. Okay, it doesn't work like that. So What is the purpose 1st Corinthians 14 look at verse 21 It says in the law it is written with men of other tongues and other lips Will I speak unto this people and yet for all that will they not hear me saith the Lord? So what was the point right? Well, it says right here It says in the lot is written with men of other tongues and of other lips. Will I speak unto this people yet for? All that will they not hear me saith the Lord Real quickly jump down to verse 22. It says wherefore tongues are for a sign Not to them that believe but to them that believe not But prophesying serveth not for them that believe not but for them which believe so the Bible is very clear Paul's very clear here what the purpose of tongues is for a sign. Is that not what Peter said? Hey, this is a sign This is what was spoken by the Prophet Joel Very clear. It was a sign to the Jews at this time So you say show me in the Bible where these things ended because that's what they're gonna do They're gonna say well, okay fine. You show me where it where it says these things ended in the Bible Well, is there a need? To speak in this unknown tongue today to the Jews in a miraculous way And the answer is no because that nation of Judea was conquered in 70 AD by the Romans Okay, they were scattered throughout the whole world and then obviously even before that those of us who are saved are the Israel of God Okay, and I'm not saying we shouldn't preach the gospel to Jews. We love Jews We'll preach the gospel to Jews any day of the week, you know, it's it's I'm just simply saying what Paul said What's the purpose of tongues there for a sign not to them that believe right? It wasn't to them to believe but to them that believe not God was simply saying hey Guess what? Guess what your days as a nation are over you're done. You won't hear my words, right? You won't hear my doctrine. You won't hear my statutes. You won't hear my laws So you're finished and this is a sign confirming that right because the Bible says that the Jew requires a sign That's not a good thing, right? They require a sign because they're a wicked and adulterous generation. Jesus said so And by the way, Paul's quoting Isaiah 28 11. You don't have to turn there. I'm just gonna read it for you real quick It says for with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people verse 12 to whom he said This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest and this is the refreshing yet They would not hear so that is what Paul is quoting in first Corinthians chapter 14 Let's see here. Let's move on here. We're almost done first Corinthians 14. Look at verse number 34 again He says let your women keep silence in the churches for it is not permitted unto them to speak But they are commanded to be under obedience is also sayeth law verse 35 if they will learn anything Let them ask their husbands at home for it is a shame for women to speak in the church verse 36 Paul says this he says what came the Word of God out from you or came it unto you only So I love this here because Paul's being sarcastic. He's like what are you? The only one that's getting the Word of God now What does the charismatic say? We're special, right? We're blessed above all the other denominations because we have this special revelation the Word of God came only to us You see it's the exact opposite of what the Bible says just about everything you hear at one of these churches is gonna be well 180 from what the Bible says a 180 degree turn from what the Bible says if you want back up to verse 19 real quick. We're almost done First Corinthians 14 19 says this yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding that by my voice I might teach others also than 10,000 words in an unknown tongue So he's saying hey I'd rather speak to you five things that would help you five things that would edify you then speak to you in 10,000 words In Spanish or Hebrew or Greek or Chinese or Italian or a Greek or whatever language? That's what he's saying He's not saying I'd rather speak five words to edify you other than my heavenly prayer language. There's only me and God know Right, that's not what he's saying That's not what he's saying at all and I just want to leave you with a thought Here real quick turn to Luke chapter number 11 Luke chapter number 11 Last thing last thing right here So the Pentecostal the charismatic the ecumenical the liberal the people that support this stuff They're not gonna they're they're gonna go down swinging. They're not gonna let this die out easy, right and it's kind of funny They just keep wanting to push this heavenly prayer languages tongues is a gift It's a it's a prayer language or sometimes it's it's another language depends on how the spirit leads and this and that well, the problem with that that I see is You know, the disciples clearly asked Jesus. Hey teach us to pray If you don't believe me look at verse number one Luke chapter 11 verse number one Look what it says It says in it came to pass that as he was praying in a certain place when he ceased one of his disciples said unto him Lord teach us to pray as John also taught his Disciples now, let me ask you this if a heavenly prayer language was something that was true and honest and in doctrinal Right a language that only you and God knows that gets given to you when the Holy Ghost possesses you if that was true This would be a pretty good place to insert that right? This would be I mean this would be a magnificent place to teach that doctrine But what does Jesus say he didn't say anything about a heavenly prayer language, right? He gives a model example of how we should pray Nothing to do with a heavenly prayer language nothing at all I mean think about that teach us to pray and he leaves out a heavenly prayer language I mean that would be pretty important if that was true, wouldn't it? But he doesn't mention it because it's false. It doesn't exist It's a lie from hell and this is where we're gonna leave the sermon for tonight. And again next week, we'll do part two we'll go over some of the Calmly twisted scriptures. We'll do a quick review and then hopefully move on from there. So let's pray Thank you Lord for your word and for your truth I thank you for all these people Lord did I came here to sing praises unto you and learn out of your word Lord Please bless the fellowship after the service Lord the soul winning tomorrow and the rest of the week Lord And please bless those that are traveling to visit us in Jesus name. I pray amen
