While I sit and learn at Jesus' feet, I am free as free indeed. It is joy unspeakable and full of glory, full of glory, full of glory. It is joy unspeakable and full of glory, for the half has never yet been told. I have found the pleasure I once craved. It is joy and peace within. What a wondrous blessing I am saved from the awful gulf of sin. It is joy unspeakable and full of glory, full of glory, full of glory. It is joy unspeakable and full of glory, all the half has never yet been told. I have found that hope so bright and clear, living in the realm of grace. For the Savior's presence is so near, I can see His smiling face. It is joy unspeakable and full of glory, full of glory, full of glory. It is joy unspeakable and full of glory, all the half has never yet been told. I have found the joy no tongue can tell, how it waves of glory roll. It is like a grain or flowing well, springing up within my soul. It is joy unspeakable and full of glory, full of glory, full of glory. It is joy unspeakable and full of glory, all the half has never yet been told. Amen. Now if you would, go backward in your hymnals to 191. Just a few pages there. 191, in my heart there rings a melody. 191, in my heart there rings a melody. On the first, I have a song that Jesus gave me. It was sent from heaven above, there never was a sweeter melody. Tis a melody of love, in my heart there rings a melody with heaven's harmony. Rings a melody of love, I love that Christ who died on Calvary, for He washed my sins away. He put within my heart a melody, and I know it's there to stay. In my heart there rings a melody, there rings a melody with heaven's harmony. In my heart there rings a melody, there rings a melody of love. Tis will be my endless steaming glory, with the angels I will sing. Tis will be a song with glorious harmony, when the courts of heaven ring. In my heart there rings a melody, with heaven's harmony. In my heart there rings a melody, there rings a melody of love. All right, well good evening. Welcome to Shield of Faith Baptist Church. If you need a bulletin or a pen, just raise your hand and we'll have somebody come get you one. All right, front page of the bulletin, weekly church service time, Sunday mornings at 10.30, Sunday evenings at 6, and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Underneath there's a list of our soul winning times. We've got Saturday mornings at 10.30, except for this Saturday there won't be any soul winning because of the wedding. Sunday afternoons at 2 with Brother David, Mondays at 6.30 with Mauser, Wednesdays at 11 with Brother Briley, and Thursdays around 6.30. And again, tomorrow I won't be going, so if you're going to go soul winning tomorrow, just let me know and I'll try to find somebody that you can go with and give you a location. So don't forget to just let me know if you're going to go soul winning tomorrow. Again, if you're running late, you got any questions, 208-391-5323 is the number to call. All right, praise report. So we are at 11 Salvations for May. It's 54 year to date, and last week we had 21 soul winners out in the community, so praise God for all of that. Back page, so this Sunday evening we'll be in 2 Samuel chapter number 2. And don't forget about the wedding on Saturday, June 5th at 3.33 p.m. Let's see, next up is the Father's Day BBQ. That'll be June 20th after the evening service. And we'll have hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, and if you'd like, please bring a dish to share. Birthdays for May are all gone. It's now June, so they almost rolled right through it. All right, so we are in June. I don't know who's got a birthday in June. Nobody wants to admit it? Somebody does. Joey does? Joe Boo? Oh, nice. Oh, your mom? Mo? All right, well we got some people to sing to then, so that's good. All right, this week's memory verse is Ecclesiastes chapter 10 verse 8, which says, He that diggeth the pit shall fall into it, and whoso breakth in hedge, a serpent shall bite him. We are a family integrated church, and what that means is children and infants are always welcome in the service. So we have a mother baby room right across the hallway there, all ready to go for you. Daddy baby room is over here. If you need to use it, just knock on the door, let Jessica know, and she'll come out. Don't forget to turn your phones off or place them on silent so they're not a distraction. And the very bottom line of your bulletin says, The perverse traits of the house of Ahab are contagious. Christians are not immune, and God's word is the antidote. And that's from brother Jeff, three Sundays. Three Sundays ago? Yeah, three Sunday evenings ago. So, this one's next. All right, so did everybody get one of these handouts here? Chorus of the week. Rejoice in the Lord. Did you get one, Kakes? All right, you got one? All right, so we're going to sing the handout, and then we'll receive the offer. All right. If you don't have a handout, just raise your hand and someone will get you one. It's the side with Rejoice in the Lord. We're going to sing Rejoice in the Lord. The chorus is there at the bottom, so we'll sing that after every stanza. Rejoice in the Lord. God never moves without purpose or plan When trying his servants and molding a man Give thanks to the Lord, though your testing seems long In darkness he giveth a song Or rejoice in the Lord, he makes no mistake He knoweth the end of each path that I take For when I am tried and purified I shall come forth as gold I could not see through the shadows ahead So I looked at the cross of my Savior instead I bowed to the will of the Master that day Then peace came and tears fled away Or rejoice in the Lord, he makes no mistake He knoweth the end of each path that I take For when I am tried and purified I shall come forth as gold Now I can see testing comes from above God strengthens his children and purges in love My Father knows best and I trust in his care Through purging more fruit I will bear Or rejoice in the Lord, he makes no mistake He knoweth the end of each path that I take For when I am tried and purified I shall come forth as gold All right, well, let's go ahead and pray. Thank you so much, Lord, for bringing us here this evening. Just pray that you would continue to bless our offerings, Lord, bless our service, and just be with us as we go throughout the rest of the week. Lord, please minimize distractions for us as well. Thank you again, Lord, for all that you do. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen. Amen. Amen. All right. Will everyone grab your Bibles, please, and turn with me to the book of Judges. Judges chapter 4. Judges chapter 4. And when you get there, starting in verse number 1 where the Bible reads, And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord, when Ehud was dead. And the Lord sold them into the hand of Jabin, king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor, the captain of whose host was Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles. And the children of Israel cried unto the Lord, for he had nine hundred chariots of iron. In twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel. And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidus, she judged Israel at that time, and she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in Mount Ephraim. And the children of Israel came up to her for judgment. And she sent and called Barak, the son of Abinoham, out of Kadesh, Naphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the Lord God of Israel commanded, saying, Go, and draw toward Mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali, and out of the children of Zebulun? And I will draw unto thee to the river of Qishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin's army, with his chariots and his multitude, and I will deliver him into thine hand. And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go. But if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go. And she said, I will surely go with thee notwithstanding, the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honor, for the Lord shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kadesh. And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kadesh, and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet, and Deborah went up with him. Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab, the father-in-law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zeinam, which is by Kadesh. And they showed Sisera that Barak, the son of Abinom, was gone up to Mount Tabor. And Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Herosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of Qishon. And Deborah said unto Barak, Up! for this is the day in which the Lord hath delivered Sisera into thine hand. Is not the Lord gone out before thee? So Barak went down from Mount Tabor and ten thousand men after him. And the Lord discomfited Sisera and all his chariots and all his hosts with the edge of the sword before Barak, so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot and fled away on his feet. But Barak pursued after the chariots and after the hosts unto Herosheth of the Gentiles, and all the hosts of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword, and there was not a man left. Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, for there was peace between Jabed and the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite. And Jael went out to meet Sisera and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn into me, fear not. And when he turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle. And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink, for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk and gave him drink and covered him. Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man doth come and inquire of thee and say, Is there any man here, that thou shalt say no. Then Jael, Heber's wife, took a nail of the tent and took a hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him and smote the nail into his temples and fastened it into the ground, for he was fast asleep and weary, so he died. And behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him and said unto him, Come, and I will show thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples. So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel, and the hand of the children of Israel prospered and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan. Brother Moses, will you pray for us please? Amen. Well, we've been preaching about soul winning on Wednesdays, and a few weeks ago, to start the sermon off, or the series off, if you will, I preached a sermon about soul winning, about what the Bible teaches regarding that subject. We talked about a lot of people, you know, they have this idea that what we do is like so extra, right, it's just extra credit, or they think that we stole the idea from the Mormons or the Jehovah Witnesses, and we prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that that is not true, that is not the case at all, there are several, several points in the Bible that commands us to go soul winning, it shows us examples of it, and so it is what the local New Testament church is supposed to be doing, without question. And then the second part in that series was soul warning, and we talked about, you know, the attitude that we can get sometimes when we're going through these neighborhoods, and nobody's getting saved, and it's just, you know, it can just get discouraging. And so we talked about, you know, the Bible teaches this principle that even if we don't win anybody, as long as we went out there ready, willing, and able to preach the gospel to people, we at least warned them, you know, and so we always win, because we're out there warning. So if we don't win anybody, we at least warn them. And that's the goal, that's the idea, is to get through as many doors, as many people as possible. And look, we don't live in a place where, you know, it's just gonna be months where we don't get anybody saved. If we go, we will get people saved, okay? And then part three, we talked about the importance of having our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace, right? Obviously if you're saved, you have the gospel, because that's what you trust it on. So you have the gospel of peace, but the question is, are your feet shod, are your feet clothed? Have you made preparation to actually go out with your feet and preach the gospel to other people? And we talked about that last week, and we'll get into what we're talking about right now, but what I want to do is I just want to go through this situation here in Judges. And so we're gonna pick it up about where verse 19 is, and so the situation here is God is finally delivering the children of Israel again, and the men during this time frame, if you read the chapter and you just kind of study this out, they're not actually being real men during this time period, are they? You know, Barak's like, I don't know if I really want to go. He's like, Deborah, if you won't go to Baal, then I'm not gonna go, but if you go, then I'll go, right? And then we get to this story here, and we learn about this woman named Jael. The Bible says that her husband was a man by the name of Heber. Now, he was friends with King Hazor, who was obviously the enemy, so he was a Kenite. The thing about that is that she's the one that seems to have the plan. She's the one that seems to have the preparation. She's the one that's gonna nail her point down. So let's read verse 21 and verse 22 real quick. It says this, verse 21. It says, Then Jael, Heber's wife, took a nail of the tent and took a hammer in her hand and went softly unto him and smote the nail into his temples and fastened it to the ground, for he was fast asleep and weary, so he died. Verse 22, And behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him and said unto him, Come, and I will show thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples. And I've talked about this before. She goes out there. She invites him into the tent, and so he kind of feels comfortable. I think he feels a little bit too comfortable, because if somebody invited any of us into another person's house, I wouldn't just start telling the wife, hey, give me something to drink, and just start barking orders. But that's what this guy does, and that's just kind of how it was during this time frame here. And she's fine with it, because she has a plan. You've got to keep in mind, she is prepared. She doesn't skip a beat at all. She's a quick thinker, because I mean, think about it. She hears this guy's coming, and she goes out, and she's like, hey, why don't you turn in here, and you can find refuge. You can get some rest. I'll give you some milk and some cookies, and it'll be all good, right? And I wanted to just kind of illustrate this here before we get too far. All right, Kaden, I'm going to turn this microphone. I want you to make sure, give me a thumbs up if you can't hear, if it starts going crazy. All right, so this is Cicero's brain, okay? Look at this. This is a point, okay? This is what Jael wants to get into the head of Cicero. She wants to make a point. She wants to make a statement, okay? Now watch how the story reads, right? So what does she do? She comes up to him softly, oops, and she just gets it done. It's a little, it's not as ripe as I thought it would, right? But she basically makes the point, okay? Now the title of my sermon is Get to the Point. Now what I want to do is I want to talk about the importance of getting to the point outsole, not dancing around the points, not beating the points until the person's like, oh, what? Can you just stick me with another one of those, please, so I can go back to sleep? Okay, because here's oftentimes with some people, and I'm not saying people here do this, but we can all have a tendency to kind of go like this, right, where you kind of want to make this point here. You're like, okay, you're a sinner, right? You know that, huh? You get that? You get that? Oh, you know, I still don't think you understand. I hear you telling me yes, okay? Let's go through the commandments, okay? And commandment number one, two, three, four. Oh, by the way, do you go to church? Do you feed malto meal to the kids downtown? Does your church prepare ham sandwiches? Huh? Huh? Or worse, you get the guy who says, hey, you know, do you go to church anywhere? And they're like, no, no, it's okay. Well, we're just out in the area inviting people to church, and our church, you know, we pass out these documentaries, and by the way, last week I went to the store, and oh, but anyways, back to the documentary here. Do you use the NIV? Do you use the NIV? Because if you do, guess what, you're going to hell. Do you believe the Jews are God's chosen people? Oh, you do? Okay, well, we need to talk about that. Okay, but anyways, you know, Romans 3.23 says, for all sin it comes short of the glory of God. Do you understand what that means? Oh, you do? Okay, but anyways, back to, you get the point, right? Beaten around the bush. That's not the way we do it, right? We want to take the points that we want to make, like jail did, get them right into the brain, and then once it sticks, we get the second point, right? So you're a sinner. They've admitted it. That's stuck in there. They've told you that. Okay, now what's the next point that we want to make? That they deserve hell, right? So you take your point, and you drive that sucker in there, okay? What's the next point? We're saved without works, okay? And then you start working on that, you know, and sometimes it takes, you know, one verse, two verse, three verse, right? Sometimes it does, okay? And then what? Eternal security. That's right. And you want to make sure you get these things in there before you move on, okay? Now this person's saved. Got the points. And I think we might need to buy a new table, too. Don't tell Jessica. She's going to get mad. All right, so the title of the sermon is Get to the Point. Get to the Point. And look, this goes beyond soul winning, too. This will help you in conversation. This will help you in your relationships. This will help you at work. This will help you in every area of life. Because look, I will be honest with you. We live in a society today where people do not want to offend other people. And so they hold back, and they're afraid, and they think, well, if I just hint around long enough, they'll eventually get the point. Look, jail, she understood. That's not the case. I want this guy to understand something, and he's going to understand it one way or the other, right? Now think about this. She would not have been able to make that point if she had not been prepared mentally and physically, right? I think we can all agree on that. And again, that's the same thing for us today. We need to make sure that we are prepared. And so we want to be clear and concise with our gospel presentation. We want to know the exact points that we want to make. We want to make sure that we have the verses to support those points. But also, we want to have the discernment to understand when they get the point, it's time to move on, okay? Move on to the next point. Now the reason why I say that is because today's day and age, most people's attention spans are very small. Let's just be honest. They are very short. I mean, think about it. You're out there in the community. Most of these people go to public school or they go to the college or they're, you know, working a job. And what's the main way that we learn today? You know, when you go to work and they want to teach you something, they're going to give you this multimedia presentation. They try to make it as entertaining as possible. Lots of changing screens real quick. You know, they're doing all of these different things to try to keep your attention. I mean, that's what Hollywood does, right? I mean, they design these movies and these programs to be flashy and to be catchy. And so these people's minds, they get into that pattern, okay? And you have to understand that and you have to be aware of that. I read this study that was talking about people's attention spans. Oh, it's only like 12 seconds now and blah, blah, blah. You know what? It might be for some people. But I believe if you get somebody saved and you get them coming to church, you get them reading the Bible, that attention span is going to broaden out greatly and you're going to have no problems at all. So I'm not saying trim your message at all. But what I am saying is we need to make sure that we get to the point because when we start losing track, we start going down these rabbit trails and we start talking about all these other things that are cool, you know, guess what happens? We can lose interest. Or guess what else happens? More often than not, somebody else comes home and they don't like what you're doing. Everything I talked about last Wednesday about all the distractions, the dog, the crazy neighbor, the kids on bikes, all of that stuff happened to us. In that order. In that order. There were kids riding their bike up and down the street, eh, what are you talking about? And then we had the crazy guy like, oh, you're trying to interrupt David while he's giving the gospel. And then we had the little lady come home, oh, you're reading the Bible? And David's trying to get this lady saved. And guess what? She lets the dog out and the dog's jumping all over us. And so me and Steven were having to play with this dog and we're like, David, hurry up. No, I'm just kidding. He didn't really take that long. She was low-hanging fruit. But if he would have been like, okay, I know you get the fact that we're saved without works, but have you seen this documentary? And it went on a rabbit trail, man, he would have lost her. You get what I'm saying? So we need to make sure we stay focused and save all those questions that they have for the end. You know, say, hey, remind me about that at the end because more than likely you're going to forget about it, especially if they get saved, right? You're going to be so excited. You're going to move on. And you want to answer those questions. And if you've been coming to this church long enough, you can answer those questions, okay? So just keep that in mind. People's attention spans are not where they used to be. And so you got to take the moment and the time that they give you. And you have to understand that it's precious and you need to act quickly but clearly, okay? So real quickly before we move on here, I want you to look at verse number 23. It says this, so God subdued on that day, Jabin, the king of Canaan before the children of Israel. So as you're reading this story, Jael did a great work, right? But it was through the grace and the power of God that that even happened. The Bible is very clear that it is God who is ultimately responsible for delivering the children of Israel. And we understand that, right? That's exactly how it is out solely. None of us are better than anybody else. We go out there, we water, and we plant, and God gives the increase, okay? So let's keep that in mind here. Now, what I want to do is I want you to turn to John chapter number 4. John chapter number 4, and we're going to take a look at the conversation between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well because I think we can learn a lot of great insights here from that conversation in regards to getting to the point, okay? Now, again, I'll say this. I don't put a time limit on, you know, make sure if your gospel presentation's 11 minutes, it's too short, okay? If it's 7 minutes, it's too short. Now, obviously, if it's like 3 or 4, we, you know, we probably have an issue, okay? But some people just take longer than others. It's just the way it is, especially around here, because a lot of people go to church around here and they have these weird doctrines that have been implanted in their head and they have so many questions. And so you're having to really fight through that stuff, but you've got to remember to stay on task and you have to remember you need to get your points into their heads as quickly and as clearly as absolutely possible, okay? And so, again, let's take a look at this conversation here between Jesus and the Samaritan woman. John chapter 4, look at verse number 7. It says this. It says, There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. And verse 8 informs us that the disciples are not there. Look at verse 9. It says, Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? For the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. Jesus answered and sent unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith unto thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. Now, what does Jesus say right off the bat? Obviously, he's worried, he's tired. The beginning of chapter 4 talks about how, you know, John's disciples were baptizing less than Jesus, although Jesus didn't baptize with his disciples. And so he's departing, and he says he has to go through Samaria. So they go through there, and he's worried. He wants something to drink. So he asks this woman at the well. The problem is, in that day and age, the Jews and the Samaritans, they did not get along at all. So you have an issue of racism going on here. So he says, hey, get me to drink. What does she say? She says, how come you being a Jew are asking me to get you something to drink? I'm a Samaritan. So what does she do? She tries to play the critical race card, right? She starts throwing up all this racism stuff, you know? She's like, wait, don't we like hate each other? Don't our people like not get along? Why are you even talking to me? This is crazy. Notice how he responds here in verse 10. Jesus answered and said unto her, if thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. What does he do about her race question? He completely ignores it, because that has nothing to do with the point that he wants to make. Everybody see that? He's not there to debate the cultural issues of the day. He's not there to talk about Fox News and all this garbage that's going on. Now, does he have an opinion on all this stuff? Of course, he's God. He knows the truth. He understands the predicament that they're in and why they're in the situation that they're in, but he doesn't go back to the days of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, and start going through all the kings all the way on down past Ahab until the Assyrian captivity. He doesn't do all that. He could clearly do that and completely roast her, but he doesn't do that. He gets right after a point, and what is that point? Look at the first part of that verse again. It says, if thou knewest the gift of God. So you have to understand, this is a conversation here. This is basically a soul-willing experience that we get to witness pre-cross, and notice what he says, that salvation is a gift, but what other point does he make in the statement here? He makes it a point to let her know that the message that he has, she doesn't understand it, because think about it. If thou knewest, what does that imply? That means you don't know what I'm about to tell you. You need to understand what I want to tell you, right? And that's exactly what we need to do right off the bat. If at all possible, when you are talking to somebody about the gospel, you have got to nail down what they believe, because you're gonna need it at the end, because how many times have we gotten to the end of the gospel, and somebody's like, that's exactly what I believe. I already believe that, right? But it's like, wait a minute, dude. You told me you had to repent of your sins. You had to do all of these works, and you had to follow the commandments, get baptized in water, and then pray to Mary and do all the stuff. Now all of a sudden, we believe the same thing? Right? This is why it's so important to make sure that they understand, hey, you don't know the gift of God. You don't understand what a gift is. And what you believe is different than what I believe. You have to make these points right off the bat, okay? Now obviously, we don't follow the same order here. I mean, what's he gonna do? Shower John 3, 16? I mean, we're only in John chapter four. It hadn't even been written yet, right? But it's very important to understand it. Very important to understand it. If thou knewest the gift of God. So he bypasses the issues. And look, people got great questions. Oh, what about the sodomites? Love to talk with you about that, but let's get you saved first, okay? Then we'll go ahead and show you what the Bible teaches about that subject. Then we'll teach you what the Bible says about racism. Okay? And so he gets right to the point. He wants this woman to understand she's not saved and that she needs to get saved and that it is a free gift, no works involved. Now, look at verse number 11. It says this. The woman saith unto him, sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. From whence then hast thou this living water? So what do we see by this statement here? She doesn't get it. Her mind is in the physical. She does not know that. But he's already established the point that she doesn't know the message that he wants to give her, right? And so it's important to read this and understand that discernment, right? We need to be paying attention to the answers that these people give us because what they tell us is literally a cry for help. They are basically telling you what they believe. The Bible says that, you know, from the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh. So when you ask them these questions and they answer them, pay attention to what they say because that is valuable information that you can use to help this person understand that you know what? They're not saved. They don't understand the gift of God. Now, look at verse number 12. This is what she says further. Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us this well, or gave us the well, and drank thereof himself and his children and his cattle? Right? So what is she doing here? This is pretty interesting. She brings up the old, you know, she brings up Jacob and how this well came to be and she's basically telling him, hey, I've got a part in this Hebrew culture too. I've got a part, I've got a stake in this. You know, how does that translate into today? Well, I go to church. I go to the journey. I know it's a free gift. Yeah, it's without works. So what do you have to do to go to heaven? Well, you've got to live a righteous life. You know, you've got to do all this stuff, right? So they mention the same things, don't they? They talk the same language we do and that's what she's doing to him. She's speaking the same language. She's saying, hey, I'm Hebrew, you know, even though you guys don't regard us as this and I know we got carried away into captivity, right? But she understands her history. She understands it. She's trying to make a relation. This is what people often do because it gives them an out. They feel like, okay, well, I can always bring this around later because guess what? You know, it's embarrassing to go to church for 20 years or however many years and have somebody come up to your door and all of a sudden you realize they know way more Bible than you and you realize, you know what? You're not saved. And so these people are starting to just grab on for dear life and they're just starting to throw Bible verses at you. You gotta have the discernment, though, to pay attention to their answers and realize, hey, this person I'm dealing with is not saved because they didn't give me the right answer. They didn't tell me the right thing. They don't understand the gift, right? And her answers are clearly communicating that fact, right? And so people will say this, though. Well, I go to church, right? Yeah, we got Sunday school right now. We're going through the book of Jonah, right? And you know, I know I'm saved. God forgives everybody. You know, if I miss a sin, I'm sure at the judgment seat I'll get forgiven. You know, they'll say things like that to try to make it seem common. But you have to tell them again, hey, no, you're not understanding this. You're not saved. Look at verse number 13. Jesus answered and said unto her, whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again. So what is he doing? He's nailing down the point, hey, woman, you don't understand what I'm talking about here, right? But again, he doesn't get wrapped up into this Old Testament argument about whose well this is and all the history that belongs to that. He gets right back to the point that he wants to make. So it says again, Jesus answered and said unto her, whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again. Look at verse 14. But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Now, when do you get that well? When do you get that water? As soon as you take a drink, as soon as you're saved, as soon as you call upon the name of the Lord after you understand, you know what, I'm a sinner. I deserve to go to hell. I'm just learning now that the gospel is very easy. It's salvation without works and once I'm saved, I am saved forever. And once you call upon the name of the Lord, believing that in your heart, the Bible says you are saved and inside of you is the Holy Ghost now. The Holy Ghost comes inside and indwells inside of you and Jesus is basically saying that even though that hasn't happened yet. He says, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Right, so he's trying to separate the eternal from the physical because her mind is stuck on the physical. Just like most people that we talk to today, they'll at some point bring it right back around to the physical. Well, it's about the commandments. You know, they'll say anything that they think you want to hear, but it's always going to come back out. If that's what they're trusting, if their trusting works in any capacity, it will come up and you have to be aware of that. You have to listen for the little things that they say. You know, like, well, I would never lose it. Okay, we had a guy from Treasure Valley tell us that several years ago. Said, well, you know, I would never lose my salvation. I don't know, but then he actually said this. He said, I don't know about other people and this guy was on staff down there. On staff down there. And he said, well, I couldn't, but I can't speak for other people. Well, what are you trying to say? What exactly is that guy saying? He's saying he doesn't know the gift of God. And that is what we are up against, right? I mean, we talk to people that have, that go to church that has Baptist in the name, and they are not saved. They do not understand the gospel. And we need to make sure that we catch those little things and that we make the point. You're not getting it. You don't understand this gift and you need to change your mind. But whosoever drinketh the water that I shall give him shall never thirst. Never thirst. What is that? That's eternal security, right? People want to say, oh, you know, you don't have to have them believe eternal security. They can just call upon him, Lord, in the middle of the night without hearing the Bible. I saw a bright light. That's not what the Bible teaches. You have to believe the word. You have to have had that seed go into you at some point. It is very clear, but he says, whosoever drinketh of this water that I shall give him shall never thirst. Once you are saved, you are always saved. There is nothing you can do to lose your salvation. Think about it. There's nothing you can do to earn it, so there's nothing you can do to maintain it, and there's nothing you can do to lose it. That's exactly what he's saying. Now look at her response. The woman saith unto him, sir, give me this water that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw. Where's her mind frame? Carnal. Carnal. Still physical, right? And so he's going to get out another stake and be like, you just aren't getting it, right? But he doesn't give up on her. He's paying attention to what she is saying. He's gauging her knowledge. He's basically saying, you're just not catching on to what I'm trying to communicate to you here. So look at verse 16, Jesus saith unto her, go call thy husband and come hither. It kind of seems like he's changing gears, right? But he's not. He's actually stepping it up. Go call thy husband and come hither. The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Right? Think about this conversation. He's talking to her, and she's like, I don't have a husband. And that's where it stops. Right? And he's looking at her. Look at the rest of the verse. Jesus saith unto her, thou hast well said, I have no husband. For thou hast had five husbands, and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband. And that saidest thou, truly. Turn to Hebrews chapter number four. That will wake you up. That would wake anybody up. You know, and I, you know, the Bible doesn't record every single detail of this conversation. It doesn't record all the conversations that he had with other people, but I wonder how many times he did this to other people. You know, and just told them things, and they were like, oh, I'll just go ahead and back on out of here right now. I'll just go ahead and be careful. You say, well, how does this apply to us? Because obviously we don't have this kind of insight into most people's lives. I try to get it sometimes, right? I'll go on Facebook if I get an opportunity. You know, I told you guys this before. If somebody's weird on the phone and I'm about to go fix an appliance, I go right on Facebook and I try to find out as much information as I can about them because I want to know if I'm dealing with somebody that's absolutely crazy, right? I can't read people like Jesus can. He's the word of God. He knows everything you've ever done or ever will do, right? We don't have that exact insight, but this does get our attention. So how do we do this same thing today with the word of God? Very simple. Look at Hebrews chapter four, verse 12. For the word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit and the joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. So for example, you know, sometimes you read to them Romans 3 10. You read to them Romans 3 23, right? And they're still like, okay, I get it. Yeah, I'm sinning while sin is, but I'm still good as long as I try, right? You go to 6 23, but really what gets them, right? Usually the deal breaker is when you start getting into Revelation 21 8, right? But the fearful and the unbelieving, the abominable, and the murderers, the hormonal sorcerers, and the indulters, you know, you start going down that list and talk about all liars, right? Shout out of their partner language, burn of the fire, and burn of the stone, which is the second death, and you start telling them that, you know, that still hits them the same way. You're making the point It's like, look, I don't have the same insight into your life, but the word of God does, and this is why you have to use the Bible out so many. You have to sow the seed. You have to preach the word. There's no other way to do it. Otherwise, why do we have this story in John chapter 4 if you don't need the Bible? If you could just walk around with note cards and just talk to people about documentaries all day long, or just ask them questions, or just say, I just want to tell you that Jesus loves you. You can tell people that that are hurting till they're blue in the face, but until you read the word of God to them, which discerns their thoughts and the intents of their heart, they will never change. They will never even come close to changing. Sure, they might put on a smile. They might fake it for a little while, but you know what? It's never going to happen. They have to have this experience that this woman has here in John chapter 4, verse 18. So, turn to, go back to John. Go back to John, and we'll keep moving on here. Look at verse 19. There's a change in tone here. The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. You know, and sometimes, you know, when you get to Revelation 21, 8, and you hit them, and you're basically saying, hey, Revelation 21, 8 is just a summary of Romans 3, 23. It's just, you know, broadening it out, because we can all find ourselves on that list somewhere. We're not all murderers. We haven't all committed, you know, these, you know, sorcery and all these other things, but we've all been fearful. We've all been unbelieving. We've all lied. We've all done something on this, right? So, it's a great opportunity for you to show, hey, you know what? You and I, we're the same. We have to be saved, right? And a lot of times, people at that point will be like, ooh, I get it. Now, they might not say, like, I perceive that thou art a prophet, right?
