WEBVTT 00:00.000 --> 00:04.400 Matthew Stuckey here and I'm giving you another soul winning tip and in this video I want 00:04.400 --> 00:09.920 to talk to you about the example of being born again that is mentioned quite a bit in 00:09.920 --> 00:15.460 John chapter 3 where Jesus told Nicodemus, except a man be born again, he cannot see 00:15.460 --> 00:16.940 the kingdom of God. 00:16.940 --> 00:21.160 But also this spiritual birth is referenced in John 1 in a lot of places really every 00:21.160 --> 00:24.400 time it talks about everlasting life and eternal life. 00:24.400 --> 00:28.500 And so the Bible teaches that to be saved we need to be born into God's family. 00:28.500 --> 00:32.720 So it's important for people to understand everybody was created by God but it doesn't 00:32.720 --> 00:34.240 mean that we're all his children. 00:34.240 --> 00:36.700 That's something Catholics oftentimes struggle with. 00:36.700 --> 00:40.300 So that's one thing we might want to mention as we mention being born again because some 00:40.300 --> 00:43.860 people might not feel the need for it because they think they're already a child of God. 00:43.860 --> 00:45.140 So you might want to mention that. 00:45.140 --> 00:49.080 But let me give you four other things you can quickly mention about being born again 00:49.080 --> 00:50.740 and why it's such a great example. 00:50.740 --> 00:56.060 And realize everybody's been born and everybody has at least a little bit of an idea of what 00:56.060 --> 00:57.520 takes place at birth. 00:57.520 --> 01:01.440 So it's an example that people, that really resonates with people that they can really 01:01.440 --> 01:02.440 understand. 01:02.440 --> 01:06.160 And one thing you can mention when it comes to the spiritual birth is this. 01:06.160 --> 01:11.200 You can ask people, well when a baby is born, who does the work? 01:11.200 --> 01:13.720 The mom or the baby? 01:13.720 --> 01:16.360 And they're going to say, the mom does the work. 01:16.360 --> 01:19.240 Well when it comes to the spiritual birth, who does the work? 01:19.240 --> 01:21.520 Do we do the work or did Jesus do the work? 01:21.520 --> 01:22.960 Jesus did the work. 01:22.960 --> 01:27.920 So just as a mom does the work for a baby to be born at a physical birth, God did the 01:27.920 --> 01:30.220 work for us to be born at a spiritual birth. 01:30.220 --> 01:32.440 Of course we must believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. 01:32.440 --> 01:33.440 We're not Calvinists. 01:33.440 --> 01:36.320 But what I'm saying is, Jesus did the work. 01:36.320 --> 01:37.320 Salvation is not of works. 01:37.320 --> 01:38.320 He died on the cross for us. 01:38.320 --> 01:42.000 So one thing you can mention is the fact that, you know, just as a baby does not do the work 01:42.000 --> 01:45.560 to be born, we don't do the work to be born into God's family. 01:45.560 --> 01:50.100 Another thing you can mention is this, well how many times were you physically born? 01:50.100 --> 01:51.100 One time. 01:51.100 --> 01:53.740 How many times do you need to be spiritually born? 01:53.740 --> 01:54.740 One time. 01:54.740 --> 01:55.740 Right? 01:55.740 --> 01:56.740 Not that complicated. 01:56.740 --> 02:00.460 Another thing is this, you know what, well does a loving parent ever take their child 02:00.460 --> 02:04.900 and throw them in a burning oven or throw them in a volcano or throw them in a lake 02:04.900 --> 02:05.900 of fire? 02:05.900 --> 02:07.980 They're going to say, no, you know, I would never do that. 02:07.980 --> 02:11.060 And this is a great example to use if people have kids and they're like, no, I would never 02:11.060 --> 02:13.340 take my child and throw them in an oven. 02:13.340 --> 02:17.380 Well then if you're God's child and God is more loving than you, would he ever take you 02:17.380 --> 02:19.060 and throw you into the lake of fire? 02:19.060 --> 02:20.780 Well, no, no, he wouldn't do that. 02:20.780 --> 02:23.580 So that makes perfect sense to people. 02:23.580 --> 02:26.860 The other thing is this, you can mention the aspect of discipline. 02:26.860 --> 02:31.260 Eternal security is hard for people to comprehend because they hear it and they think we're 02:31.260 --> 02:35.300 saying they can get away with whatever they want and nothing ever happens for your sin, 02:35.300 --> 02:37.820 but the reality is God disciplines us. 02:37.820 --> 02:43.180 And so here's the thing, just as a loving parent will discipline their children, God 02:43.180 --> 02:47.780 will discipline you here on earth if you break his rules. 02:47.780 --> 02:51.580 And as the Bible says, you know, for whom the Lord loveth, he chasteneth and scourgeth 02:51.580 --> 02:53.300 every son whom he receiveth. 02:53.300 --> 02:57.540 And so explaining how God will discipline you on earth and how much he disciplines you 02:57.540 --> 03:01.500 is how much did you do wrong and how bad was it that you did. 03:01.500 --> 03:03.020 Well, the same thing with God. 03:03.020 --> 03:07.700 The bigger the sin, the bigger the punishment, but you're still a child of God just as you're 03:07.700 --> 03:10.540 still a child of your parents if you do wrong and disobey them. 03:10.540 --> 03:13.060 So four things that you can mention when it comes to this. 03:13.060 --> 03:17.660 One thing you can mention as an overview is the fact that we have to be born again because 03:17.660 --> 03:20.900 we're all created by God, but we're not God's children. 03:20.900 --> 03:24.540 We can mention that when a baby's born, a baby does not do the work. 03:24.540 --> 03:26.340 Same thing for us, the spiritual birth. 03:26.340 --> 03:27.340 We don't do the work. 03:27.340 --> 03:28.480 Jesus did the work. 03:28.480 --> 03:31.580 We can mention that, you know, how many times were you physically born? 03:31.580 --> 03:32.580 One time. 03:32.580 --> 03:34.500 How many times do you need to be spiritually born? 03:34.500 --> 03:35.500 One time. 03:35.500 --> 03:38.720 We can mention that a loving parent never takes your children and throws them into a 03:38.720 --> 03:40.260 burning oven. 03:40.260 --> 03:42.660 They discipline, but they don't throw them into a burning oven. 03:42.660 --> 03:43.940 Same thing with God. 03:43.940 --> 03:46.060 And then also, as I just mentioned, the discipline. 03:46.060 --> 03:48.240 A loving parent, though, will discipline their children. 03:48.240 --> 03:50.020 So we're not saying it's okay to commit sins. 03:50.020 --> 03:53.060 We're just saying he will not take away eternal life. 03:53.060 --> 03:55.820 He will not take away everlasting life. 03:55.820 --> 03:58.860 So those are four things that you can mention, and these are some of the reasons why God 03:58.860 --> 04:03.860 gave us such a great example to use when we preach the gospel of being born again. 04:03.860 --> 04:05.300 Anyways, thank you, and God bless.
