All right, we're back in Exodus, chapter 29, after about a three-week break there. 32:40.000 --> 32:45.000 And the title of the sermon tonight is The Consecration of the Priest. 32:45.000 --> 32:52.000 Now, last time we were here, we went kind of meticulously through the outfit of the high priest. 32:52.000 --> 32:56.000 And if you remember, the high priest's outfit was a little bit different, 32:56.000 --> 33:02.000 because they had the ephod that they wore with the different jewels, and represented the different tribes. 33:02.000 --> 33:05.000 And they had, like, the shoulder pieces on that said holy to the Lord. 33:05.000 --> 33:10.000 And so they had a different, they had the same outfit, but different things on it. 33:10.000 --> 33:15.000 And they had the, what seemed to be like an extra pocket within there, 33:15.000 --> 33:22.000 that they put the Urim and the Thumen in there, and the breastplate, all that different stuff. 33:22.000 --> 33:30.000 And we kind of went through what some of that stuff might represent, and what I thought for sure represented. 33:30.000 --> 33:35.000 But all this is really meticulous stuff that's going on here. 33:35.000 --> 33:41.000 And you'll notice that, you know, God goes through great detail to give all these instructions to Moses. 33:41.000 --> 33:49.000 And so we know a lot of the things that God has said, and we're like, really, we're still kind of in this pause situation, 33:49.000 --> 33:54.000 where God is just telling Moses all the things that they have to gather just to do the service of the Lord, 33:54.000 --> 33:58.000 all the things that they have to make to do the service of the Lord, 33:58.000 --> 34:04.000 and then all the outfits that they have to wear to be the priest, the high priest and the priest of the Lord, 34:04.000 --> 34:10.000 and then what Moses has to do to even let those priests serve before the Lord. 34:10.000 --> 34:19.000 So now, Moses being told what to do when it comes to, he's having to put all their clothes on him, if you didn't notice that. 34:19.000 --> 34:24.000 He's having to kill the bullock. He's having to kind of walk them through all this stuff, 34:24.000 --> 34:29.000 and then this is kind of like the ordination process that they have to do. 34:29.000 --> 34:33.000 And he's just explaining what he has to do in order to get all this started, 34:33.000 --> 34:40.000 because remember, this is like basically he's starting this new congregation basically out in the wilderness. 34:40.000 --> 34:48.000 It's not like people have never worshiped God before, but this is under the covenant that they agreed to at Mount Sinai. 34:48.000 --> 34:51.000 So let's look at verse number one. The Bible says, 34:51.000 --> 34:59.000 And this is the thing that thou shalt do unto them to hallow them, to minister unto me in the priest's office, 34:59.000 --> 35:03.000 take one young bullock and two rams without blemish. 35:03.000 --> 35:08.000 So this is what the word hallow means. 35:08.000 --> 35:15.000 And hallow and consecrate and set apart and all these different words, 35:15.000 --> 35:21.000 a lot of times they kind of have similar meanings, but hallow means to make holy or consecrate. 35:21.000 --> 35:28.000 So a lot of times they're dual meanings, but they have to hollow them or make them holy. 35:28.000 --> 35:36.000 So Moses' job is to make sure that they're cleansed properly to minister to God in the priest's office. 35:36.000 --> 35:39.000 You can't just come willy-nilly to God. 35:39.000 --> 35:46.000 And you know, like Jeroboam, one of the sins that he did when he decided to just kind of go off on his own 35:46.000 --> 35:52.000 was that he took priests from the lowest of the people, and that was like a smash in the face of God. 35:52.000 --> 35:56.000 God did not do that. He said they have to be this specific people, 35:56.000 --> 36:00.000 and these are the things you have to do in order to be a priest unto me. 36:00.000 --> 36:06.000 And then they had to take one young bullock, which is like a big cow or bull or whatever, 36:06.000 --> 36:10.000 and then two rams without blemish. 36:10.000 --> 36:16.000 So I don't know necessarily why it's one and then these two other types of animals, 36:16.000 --> 36:20.000 but there's definitely three of them. Connect that with the Trinity, I don't know. 36:20.000 --> 36:27.000 But to make them consecrated, they had to make this sacrifice. 36:27.000 --> 36:32.000 And notice you're going to get a lot of the same imagery going on with all these things. 36:32.000 --> 36:37.000 And I don't want you to get lost in the details, but look at verse 2. It says, 36:37.000 --> 36:44.000 And unleavened bread, and cakes unleavened, tempered with oil, and wafers unleavened, 36:44.000 --> 36:49.000 anointed with oil, and wheaten flour shalt thou make them. 36:49.000 --> 36:54.000 So specific ingredients, specific things that have to be done. 36:54.000 --> 36:59.000 And God is really specific. We talked a lot about order and all these things this morning. 36:59.000 --> 37:03.000 Well, God's really getting down to the details and what has to be done. 37:03.000 --> 37:10.000 And this is not a suggestion. It's not, well, you can use rice instead of wheat to make your bread. 37:10.000 --> 37:17.000 You're not making barley. He said specifically the things that they have to use. 37:17.000 --> 37:19.000 Because it represents something. And it says, 37:19.000 --> 37:27.000 And thou shalt put them into one basket, and bring them in the basket with the bullock and the two rams. 37:27.000 --> 37:32.000 And Aaron and his sons, thou shalt bring unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, 37:32.000 --> 37:35.000 and shalt wash them with water. 37:35.000 --> 37:39.000 So to hallow the ministers, this is the beginning of the whole thing. 37:39.000 --> 37:43.000 You take the sacrifice, you take the bread, these different types of bread, 37:43.000 --> 37:49.000 anointed with oil in different ways, wheat is what you make the cakes out of. 37:49.000 --> 37:51.000 You take them and put them in one basket. 37:51.000 --> 37:55.000 You bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, 37:55.000 --> 37:59.000 which is what? Basically where their church services are, right? 37:59.000 --> 38:02.000 Where everybody comes together as the congregation. 38:02.000 --> 38:05.000 And then what? Wash them with water. 38:05.000 --> 38:08.000 So what would the unleavened bread represent? 38:08.000 --> 38:12.000 Well, obviously, the body of Christ, okay? 38:12.000 --> 38:16.000 And so that's what you see the picture of in the New Testament. 38:16.000 --> 38:22.000 So when we eat the unleavened bread at the Lord's Supper, that's what we eat, right? 38:22.000 --> 38:25.000 Unleavened bread. What does the oil represent? 38:25.000 --> 38:27.000 Well, the oil represents the Holy Spirit. 38:27.000 --> 38:33.000 And how you, you know, it says that you have to, you take it and temper it with oil. 38:33.000 --> 38:39.000 So the person that's saved is filled with the Holy Spirit when they get saved. 38:39.000 --> 38:43.000 So it's tempered with oil, representing the Holy Spirit. 38:43.000 --> 38:47.000 And then the rams and the bullock, death is required for redemption. 38:47.000 --> 38:52.000 And blood of a perfect sacrifice without blemish is required for redemption. 38:52.000 --> 38:55.000 This is pictured in the death of these beasts. 38:55.000 --> 38:59.000 They're supposed to be without blemish, picturing Christ. 38:59.000 --> 39:02.000 And then the washing with water. 39:02.000 --> 39:07.000 You know, modern day New Testament, what is that pictured in? Baptism, right? 39:07.000 --> 39:15.000 And baptism doesn't wash our sins away, but it is like the first command that we do afterwards. 39:15.000 --> 39:20.000 And notice that, you know, this is representing people that are saved, okay? 39:20.000 --> 39:27.000 And then they get, what, they get washed with water in front of the Lord at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. 39:27.000 --> 39:35.000 Okay, so all these pictures are pictures of things in the New Testament that we already, that we have in place now. 39:35.000 --> 39:40.000 So in the New Testament you're saved by the blood of Christ and dwelt by the Spirit of God. 39:40.000 --> 39:43.000 And then you're supposed to be baptized. 39:43.000 --> 39:47.000 Then you serve Christ as a priest in your temple, which is your body, right? 39:47.000 --> 39:49.000 That's what the New Testament teaches. 39:49.000 --> 39:53.000 As a living sacrifice, you know, which is your reasonable service. 39:54.000 --> 40:00.000 So you see how the priest order is picturing what is going to come in the New Testament? 40:00.000 --> 40:05.000 And actually it's, when it talks about how it's supposed to be something that's forever, 40:05.000 --> 40:11.000 our priesthood, the priesthood of the Lord Jesus Christ is going to be something that lasts forever, 40:11.000 --> 40:14.000 and us serving him is going to last forever. 40:14.000 --> 40:21.000 So Moses is now to sanctify and cleanse the priest before they even begin to do the service. 40:22.000 --> 40:28.000 So all this stuff has to happen in this chapter before they can even start doing what they're doing. 40:28.000 --> 40:30.000 It's a pretty exhaustive process. 40:30.000 --> 40:37.000 I'm glad that it doesn't take that much effort on our part, you know, to get saved and baptized. 40:37.000 --> 40:46.000 I mean, obviously, a lifelong learning from the Bible and sanctification for the rest of our lives, 40:46.000 --> 40:50.000 those things are true, and that's a lot of what's being pictured here also. 40:50.000 --> 40:55.000 Because they continuously have to do what? Cleanse everything. 40:55.000 --> 40:59.000 And it's like every day there's sacrifices, you know, our lives. 40:59.000 --> 41:04.000 Every day there's supposed to be sacrifices that we give up in our lives so that we can serve him. 41:04.000 --> 41:07.000 Every day we're supposed to kind of try to clean up our life. 41:07.000 --> 41:13.000 You know, if we failed yesterday, or if we got dirty yesterday, hey, let's get clean today. 41:13.000 --> 41:16.000 Let's clean up our act today. 41:16.000 --> 41:22.000 So these are pictures about how we are supposed to live as priests to the Lord 41:22.000 --> 41:24.000 and how we are supposed to serve God, 41:24.000 --> 41:29.000 and these picture our lifelong service to God as New Testament believers. 41:29.000 --> 41:39.000 So now Moses then begins to be told some other directions here about the holy garments that we talked about last time. 41:39.000 --> 41:44.000 I'm not going to cover all those details, but I'm going to speak about this a little bit more now. 41:44.000 --> 41:46.000 Look at verse 5, it says, 41:46.000 --> 41:51.000 And thou shalt take the garments, and put upon Aaron the coat and the robe of the ephod. 41:51.000 --> 41:57.000 So there was a coat, remember, and then the robe of the ephod, and the ephod. 41:57.000 --> 42:03.000 So there was three different items there, and then the breastplate that goes over the top of it, 42:03.000 --> 42:08.000 and gird him with the curious girdle of the ephod. 42:09.000 --> 42:14.000 So all those items were part of the outfit for the high priest. 42:14.000 --> 42:18.000 And thou shalt put the mitre upon his head, and put the holy crown upon the mitre. 42:18.000 --> 42:23.000 So the mitre was like this hat, and then the crown went over the top of it. 42:23.000 --> 42:25.000 So it's also called a bonnet. 42:25.000 --> 42:27.000 And then verse 7, 42:27.000 --> 42:32.000 Now shalt take the anointing oil, and pour it upon his head, and anoint him. 42:32.000 --> 42:37.000 So again, this is the consecration service, this is the hallowing that they're doing, 42:37.000 --> 42:40.000 and so this nice, brand new, clean outfit, 42:40.000 --> 42:46.000 Moses is going to take oil, and pour it upon his head, with this brand new outfit on. 42:46.000 --> 42:50.000 You know, and to me that just, like that would go, like, 42:50.000 --> 42:55.000 maybe God just gave me this, this afternoon, but my truck that I drove here, 42:55.000 --> 42:59.000 it was like dead, dipstick dry, out of oil. 42:59.000 --> 43:03.000 Like it had been sitting for six months, and I turned on my truck to go soul winning, 43:03.000 --> 43:08.000 and it was like, when the oil light's on, it's not going off, that means there's a problem. 43:08.000 --> 43:11.000 So, I left it running, I shouldn't have done that, 43:11.000 --> 43:16.000 but I went to put the oil in, and Sean's standing over here with like the rags, 43:16.000 --> 43:22.000 and the blower blew the oil right in Sean's face. 43:22.000 --> 43:24.000 I'm sorry brother Sean. 43:24.000 --> 43:28.000 It didn't get him that bad, but it got over my watch and some stuff like that, 43:28.000 --> 43:30.000 and I was just thinking, like, obviously I'm not a mechanic, 43:30.000 --> 43:35.000 but I thought I was smart enough to put the oil in, but apparently I failed. 43:35.000 --> 43:37.000 I failed before I even got here. 43:37.000 --> 43:42.000 So, anyway, but that oil got on him, and like, you know, 43:42.000 --> 43:45.000 you don't want to go out soul winning with oil all over you. 43:45.000 --> 43:49.000 So, I was just thinking, you know, you put on a brand new outfit, 43:49.000 --> 43:52.000 and then oil gets dumped on top of it, 43:52.000 --> 43:59.000 but this oil is that special anointing oil that God said had to be that certain type of oil, 43:59.000 --> 44:02.000 and that represents the Holy Spirit of God, 44:02.000 --> 44:06.000 and the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon the life of the believer, 44:06.000 --> 44:10.000 and so that had to be put upon that brand new outfit. 44:10.000 --> 44:11.000 And it says in verse 8, 44:11.000 --> 44:14.000 And thou shalt bring his sons, and put coats upon them, 44:14.000 --> 44:18.000 and thou shalt gird them with the girdles, Aaron and his sons, 44:18.000 --> 44:19.000 and put the bonnets on them, 44:19.000 --> 44:24.000 and the priest's office shall be theirs for a perpetual statute. 44:24.000 --> 44:27.000 Now, again, that pictures the future, 44:27.000 --> 44:30.000 because these guys died, and new priests would rise up, 44:30.000 --> 44:33.000 and so on and so forth, so they didn't live forever, 44:33.000 --> 44:36.000 because we don't live forever until we get our new bodies, right? 44:36.000 --> 44:39.000 As far as, like, our human bodies. 44:39.000 --> 44:41.000 But there will come a time, and well, 44:41.000 --> 44:44.000 Jesus Christ is a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek, 44:44.000 --> 44:46.000 so he's a priest that will never die. 44:46.000 --> 44:49.000 He's always going to be our high priest forevermore, 44:49.000 --> 44:55.000 and, you know, we're going to serve him forevermore as people that live forever. 44:55.000 --> 44:56.000 So, it says, 44:56.000 --> 44:59.000 And thou shalt consecrate Aaron and his sons. 44:59.000 --> 45:03.000 So that word consecrate means to make or declare sacred, 45:03.000 --> 45:08.000 to dedicate formally to a religious or divine purpose, 45:08.000 --> 45:11.000 to ordain to a sacred office. 45:11.000 --> 45:17.000 So this is an ordination service where they're pouring the oil upon them. 45:17.000 --> 45:20.000 This was something that was done symbolically in the Old Testament. 45:20.000 --> 45:22.000 Now, when I was ordained, 45:22.000 --> 45:24.000 Pastor Jimenez laid his hands upon me, 45:24.000 --> 45:26.000 and that's also done in, 45:26.000 --> 45:28.000 Moses does this with Joshua, 45:28.000 --> 45:31.000 and this is done in the Old Testament also, 45:31.000 --> 45:33.000 but he didn't pour oil on my head, 45:33.000 --> 45:36.000 but he asked that God would fill me with his Spirit, 45:36.000 --> 45:40.000 and give me, you know, the ability to lead, 45:40.000 --> 45:43.000 and that God would, you know, bless me in a special way 45:43.000 --> 45:45.000 to be able to lead the people here. 45:45.000 --> 45:48.000 So, this is a formal ordination, 45:48.000 --> 45:50.000 this is a formal consecration, 45:51.000 --> 45:56.000 and they had to be in a special, specific outfit to do this. 45:56.000 --> 46:00.000 Now, people say that clothing isn't important, 46:00.000 --> 46:04.000 and of course, you know, when it comes to church work and things like that, 46:04.000 --> 46:07.000 they'll say there's no thing in the New Testament that says 46:07.000 --> 46:09.000 what we're supposed to be specifically wearing, 46:09.000 --> 46:11.000 and I agree with that. 46:11.000 --> 46:14.000 You know, and culturally, people, 46:14.000 --> 46:19.000 like Pastor Stuckey wears that Filipino style, 46:19.000 --> 46:21.000 I don't, what do you call those things? 46:21.000 --> 46:23.000 Anybody know? 46:23.000 --> 46:25.000 No? I don't know. 46:25.000 --> 46:27.000 But anyway, I was wearing a tie the other night 46:27.000 --> 46:30.000 that wasn't exactly a Northerner style tie, 46:30.000 --> 46:33.000 I was wearing like a bolo, like a, you know, 46:33.000 --> 46:35.000 Southwestern style tie the other night, 46:35.000 --> 46:38.000 and I'm just saying that there's different styles 46:38.000 --> 46:41.000 in different places, and like in Hawaii, 46:41.000 --> 46:45.000 like the style is the Hawaiian shirt, 46:45.000 --> 46:50.000 the aloha style shirt or whatever. 46:50.000 --> 46:52.000 But anyway, so yeah, I mean, 46:52.000 --> 46:57.000 but I still think that we should be presentable at church, you know. 46:57.000 --> 47:01.000 And people will disagree with that too, and whatever, 47:01.000 --> 47:07.000 but the fact remains that they did have to wear specific clothing here, 47:07.000 --> 47:12.000 and one thing I do know for sure is that God wants us to be covered 47:12.000 --> 47:14.000 and look decent. 47:14.000 --> 47:20.000 He doesn't want us to look like harlots or whoremongers 47:20.000 --> 47:24.000 and be dressing inappropriately with God's people 47:24.000 --> 47:28.000 or even outside of these walls, you know. 47:28.000 --> 47:30.000 We shouldn't be wearing one thing 47:30.000 --> 47:35.000 and then dressing inappropriately outside of God's house. 47:35.000 --> 47:38.000 I'm not saying wear a suit and tie outside of God's house. 47:38.000 --> 47:40.000 We have to do that. I'm not saying that. 47:40.000 --> 47:44.000 I'm just saying that clothing is important in the Bible, 47:44.000 --> 47:48.000 and it specifically is in this instance. 47:48.000 --> 47:52.000 So you're like, well, in heaven that's not going to be the case, 47:52.000 --> 47:54.000 but I don't think that that's true 47:54.000 --> 47:59.000 because there's specific verses that talks about clothing that's worn in heaven. 47:59.000 --> 48:04.000 There's specific verses that talks about clothing that Jesus actually wears himself. 48:04.000 --> 48:07.000 And so Jesus wears clothing. 48:07.000 --> 48:11.000 He's not just appearing with nothing on, folks. 48:11.000 --> 48:13.000 It talks about his clothes. 48:13.000 --> 48:17.000 So to say that we're not going to wear clothes is just ridiculous, 48:17.000 --> 48:21.000 but I want to take you through some passages here real quickly. 48:21.000 --> 48:25.000 I just kind of want to go on this little clothing rabbit trail real quick 48:25.000 --> 48:30.000 because I do think that, I mean, I talked about this kind of in my last sermon 48:30.000 --> 48:34.000 and kind of talked about the difference between men and women's clothing 48:34.000 --> 48:38.000 and stuff like that, but I do want you to go to Genesis chapter number three. 48:38.000 --> 48:42.000 Genesis chapter number three, and we see that Adam and Eve, 48:42.000 --> 48:45.000 they were naked before they sinned, 48:45.000 --> 48:49.000 and when they realized that they were naked, 48:49.000 --> 48:55.000 they realized it because they realized that they were sinful. 48:55.000 --> 48:58.000 And they're walking around with no clothes on, 48:58.000 --> 49:00.000 and verse seven says, 49:00.000 --> 49:03.000 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked, 49:03.000 --> 49:08.000 and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons. 49:08.000 --> 49:12.000 So Adam and Eve, the first thing they thought about was taking plants 49:12.000 --> 49:17.000 and covering themselves up with leaves. 49:17.000 --> 49:20.000 Now, vegetables. 49:20.000 --> 49:24.000 And it's kind of like, you know, Cain makes his offering with vegetables. 49:24.000 --> 49:28.000 And it kind of seems, you know, God doesn't want us to wear, 49:28.000 --> 49:32.000 you know, in the Old Testament it talks about not wearing clothing with mixed fabrics 49:32.000 --> 49:37.000 because it's a picture of works and face out, you know. 49:37.000 --> 49:41.000 It's talking about two different types of salvation, mixing salvation with works. 49:41.000 --> 49:47.000 So I think it's interesting that they picked, you know, fig leaves to do that. 49:47.000 --> 49:53.000 But they want to clothe themselves, and they want to hide themselves in the way that they want to, 49:53.000 --> 49:59.000 but God has different ideas of how we should be dressed than how we think that we should be dressed. 49:59.000 --> 50:00.000 Look at verse 8. It says, 50:00.000 --> 50:04.000 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, 50:04.000 --> 50:10.000 and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. 50:10.000 --> 50:14.000 So here they are, they already clothed themselves, though. 50:14.000 --> 50:16.000 They made themselves aprons. 50:16.000 --> 50:19.000 And if you know, what's an apron look like? 50:19.000 --> 50:26.000 It has something in the front and nothing in the back but maybe a string to tie around, right? 50:27.000 --> 50:29.000 That's not really necessarily covering everything up. 50:29.000 --> 50:31.000 I don't know exactly what these aprons look like. 50:31.000 --> 50:35.000 But when I think of an apron, I think of like a cooking apron, don't you? 50:35.000 --> 50:37.000 Maybe that's not what it looked like. 50:37.000 --> 50:41.000 But, notice that they're still hiding. 50:41.000 --> 50:43.000 Why are they still hiding? 50:43.000 --> 50:48.000 Because maybe their idea of being covered up wasn't God's idea of being covered up. 50:48.000 --> 50:53.000 And then, you know, it's kind of like people will dress how they want, 50:53.000 --> 50:55.000 and, you know, it's like, have you ever knocked on someone's door, 50:55.000 --> 50:59.000 and then they open the door, and they realize that you're someone from church, 50:59.000 --> 51:02.000 and then they start to cover up? 51:02.000 --> 51:08.000 And it's like, well, if I was just some rando stranger, 51:08.000 --> 51:11.000 you're just going to just sit in there and let it all hang out? 51:11.000 --> 51:14.000 Because that's kind of what they do. 51:14.000 --> 51:20.000 And so, but like when they think that someone, a Christian's at their door, 51:20.000 --> 51:22.000 then they want to cover up. Why is that? 51:22.000 --> 51:24.000 I don't know. That's kind of funny, though. 51:24.000 --> 51:27.000 But look at verse, skip down to verse 21. 51:27.000 --> 51:35.000 So, it says, unto Adam also, and to his wife, did the Lord God make coats of skins and clothe them. 51:35.000 --> 51:41.000 So, it's interesting, God made coats of skins, so that means that something had to die 51:41.000 --> 51:43.000 in order for them to get covered. 51:43.000 --> 51:48.000 Which, this is a picture of Christ, you know, who would later be slain, 51:48.000 --> 51:54.000 and, you know, it pictures some kind of animal had to die as an atonement 51:54.000 --> 51:56.000 for what was going to come later on. 51:56.000 --> 52:02.000 So, but he made coats of skins, and that word coat, what do you think, 52:02.000 --> 52:07.000 you know, obviously when we think of coat, like I'm wearing like a jacket or a coat, right? 52:07.000 --> 52:11.000 And jacket is kind of some French word that became an English word or whatever. 52:11.000 --> 52:16.000 But coat is like kind of an older English word, but there's two meanings for coat. 52:16.000 --> 52:19.000 What is the first meaning for coat that you think of? 52:19.000 --> 52:23.000 You probably think of a coat, right, like a coat that you would wear outside, 52:23.000 --> 52:28.000 but what else is coat? Coating something with something is to cover it with something, right? 52:28.000 --> 52:31.000 This has like, what did you coat this with, CJ? 52:31.000 --> 52:36.000 Varnish. This is coated, this wood is coated with something. 52:36.000 --> 52:38.000 So, it means to cover something, right? 52:38.000 --> 52:43.000 So, God covered them up, because what they made wasn't good enough. 52:43.000 --> 52:48.000 What they made wasn't covering them. Their aprons out of fig leaves wasn't good enough. 52:48.000 --> 52:51.000 And so God said, you know what, you need to be covered up. 52:51.000 --> 52:55.000 And so this, physically, they need to be covered up better, 52:55.000 --> 53:01.000 but also this is a spiritual picture of the fact that their sins need to be covered by the blood. 53:01.000 --> 53:07.000 And in this case, it's an animal that pictures the covering that they would need later. 53:07.000 --> 53:15.000 And so, our righteousness, being clothed in righteousness is, you know, being clothed in the righteousness of Christ, 53:15.000 --> 53:19.000 is, you know, it's a spiritual thing, but it's also a physical thing. 53:19.000 --> 53:26.000 So our clothing is kind of a picture of us being, you know, not being found naked, I guess. 53:26.000 --> 53:30.000 Now, I'm not going to have you, I've gone to this verse lots of times in our studies, 53:30.000 --> 53:34.000 but go ahead and turn to Revelation 1, I'm going to read Revelation 19, 8, 53:34.000 --> 53:35.000 where the Bible says, 53:40.000 --> 53:43.000 And the fine linen is the righteousness of the saints. 53:43.000 --> 53:48.000 So, in heaven, it talks about this fine linen that we're going to be clothed with, 53:48.000 --> 53:51.000 and it's the righteousness of the saints. 53:51.000 --> 53:56.000 And this is represented in the tabernacle, which I don't have the tabernacle out here today. 53:56.000 --> 54:02.000 It looks like I have a spa set out here, but I'm going to show you why I brought that here in just a few minutes. 54:02.000 --> 54:09.000 But I'm not having a spa day, I'm just going to do a demonstration, and it might get ugly, I don't know. 54:09.000 --> 54:12.000 But, hopefully not. 54:12.000 --> 54:22.000 But, anyway, Revelation 1, 12, it says, and this is a description of what John sees when he looks at Christ in the Revelation. 54:22.000 --> 54:27.000 And he doesn't look like he did when he knew Jesus on the earth. 54:27.000 --> 54:28.000 It says, 54:45.000 --> 54:48.000 So, was Jesus wearing clothes when he saw him? 54:48.000 --> 54:49.000 Yes, he was. 54:49.000 --> 54:52.000 Now, obviously, it goes on to describe what his eyes looked like, 54:52.000 --> 55:00.000 his feet, and his hair, and his head, and white as snow, and white like wool, and his eyes were a flame of fire, 55:00.000 --> 55:03.000 but it says that he's wearing a garment. 55:03.000 --> 55:06.000 And garment is just, you know, it's clothing. 55:06.000 --> 55:08.000 It doesn't say what type of clothing it is, 55:08.000 --> 55:14.000 but most people in 2023, because of all the flannel graphs they've seen, 55:14.000 --> 55:17.000 because of all the Sunday School pictures and drawings, 55:17.000 --> 55:22.000 and all the coloring books that they've gotten at Walmart and Dollar Tree or wherever, 55:22.000 --> 55:25.000 they think that Jesus looks like a woman. 55:25.000 --> 55:28.000 They think that he wears a long dress, 55:28.000 --> 55:33.000 and a long, flowing robe that goes all the way down to his feet, 55:33.000 --> 55:41.000 and long, flowing arm, you know, these long, flowing bell-style arm things, 55:41.000 --> 55:46.000 and then he's got this long hair, skinny, stick-like figure, 55:46.000 --> 55:51.000 and a beard, which that's about the only part that I would agree with. 55:51.000 --> 56:01.000 And he's white, as the Driven sees, white as Dylan, like Casper the Ghost. 56:01.000 --> 56:06.000 He says his pronunciation, by the way, is not like a gringo. 56:06.000 --> 56:10.000 Anyway, I don't know, I'd have to hear him speak a little more. 56:10.000 --> 56:15.000 But, anyway, so what I want you to notice, though, 56:15.000 --> 56:18.000 is that he's clothed the garment down to the foot. 56:18.000 --> 56:23.000 Now, he's wearing something that covers down to the bottom of, you know, 56:23.000 --> 56:27.000 down to his foot, and then gird about his paps. 56:27.000 --> 56:33.000 Your paps are like, this is your paps, like where the nipple line is right here. 56:33.000 --> 56:36.000 So, with a golden girdle. 56:36.000 --> 56:40.000 So, some kind of like, you know, whatever, I don't know. 56:40.000 --> 56:44.000 I don't know exactly what that looks like, but that's what it's describing, 56:44.000 --> 56:47.000 and he's got some garment that goes down to the foot, okay? 56:47.000 --> 56:52.000 Now, I want you to look at Luke chapter 20, because, I mean, 56:52.000 --> 56:58.000 I just get so tired of people describing, or these pictures of Jesus that aren't accurate, 56:58.000 --> 57:02.000 and then people are saying, no, Pastor Thompson, you're crazy, 57:02.000 --> 57:07.000 because you think that Jesus wore pants, or you think that he wasn't wearing a robe, 57:07.000 --> 57:10.000 or you think that he didn't have long hair. 57:10.000 --> 57:14.000 It's like, you're just, dude, you're just, you're brain-defiled. 57:14.000 --> 57:18.000 Like, we're not supposed to draw pictures of Jesus, 57:18.000 --> 57:23.000 and we're not supposed to make pictures of God, and so, but what do people do? 57:23.000 --> 57:28.000 They do it anyway, and then the ones that they make, we get etched into our mind, 57:28.000 --> 57:34.000 and even we can't help but think those pictures, 57:34.000 --> 57:38.000 and so that's something that we have to bring into captivity, 57:38.000 --> 57:44.000 and that has to be something that we have to just kind of just not allow ourselves to think, 57:44.000 --> 57:48.000 because we've seen it so much that you can't almost help it. 57:48.000 --> 57:51.000 Now, and then we almost are not offended by it. 57:51.000 --> 57:55.000 You know, you see it, and instead of ripping it up and throwing it in the garbage, 57:55.000 --> 57:59.000 you're just like, eh, not a big deal. 57:59.000 --> 58:02.000 But Luke 20, verse 45 says, 58:02.000 --> 58:06.000 Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples, 58:06.000 --> 58:08.000 so what's Jesus about to do? 58:08.000 --> 58:11.000 He's saying in front of a whole bunch of people, 58:11.000 --> 58:13.000 he said unto his disciples, 58:13.000 --> 58:17.000 Beware of the scribes which desire to do what? 58:17.000 --> 58:24.000 Walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, 58:24.000 --> 58:27.000 and in the highest seats of the synagogues, 58:27.000 --> 58:31.000 and the chief rooms at feasts. 58:31.000 --> 58:35.000 So he's saying beware of them. 58:35.000 --> 58:37.000 This is what they like to dress like. 58:37.000 --> 58:40.000 They like to wear long robes. 58:40.000 --> 58:44.000 And then, you know, you'll take a verse like Revelation chapter one, verse 13, 58:44.000 --> 58:47.000 where it says he's cold with the garment down to the foot, 58:47.000 --> 58:50.000 and you automatically assume that's a robe. 58:50.000 --> 58:53.000 Why would you think that? 58:53.000 --> 58:55.000 It says in verse 47, 58:55.000 --> 58:59.000 Which devour widows' houses, and for a show make long prayers. 58:59.000 --> 59:02.000 So not only do they like to wear long clothes and long robes, 59:02.000 --> 59:05.000 but they like to do long prayers too. 59:05.000 --> 59:09.000 They go back to Genesis, they hit Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. 59:09.000 --> 59:13.000 They're saying the most eloquent long prayers, you know. 59:13.000 --> 59:16.000 They're saying, you know, just everything. 59:16.000 --> 59:18.000 They're just like, dude, would you ever shut up? 59:18.000 --> 59:20.000 I'm ready to go. 59:20.000 --> 59:24.000 But anyway, which devour widows' houses, and for a show make long prayers, 59:24.000 --> 59:28.000 the same shall receive greater damnation. 59:28.000 --> 59:32.000 So Jesus said this in front of a whole bunch of people, didn't he? 59:46.000 --> 59:48.000 Well, I'm just, I'm tired of it. 59:48.000 --> 59:50.000 I'm tired of the false teaching. 59:50.000 --> 59:53.000 I'm tired of the false doctrine about it. 59:53.000 --> 59:56.000 It just annoys me. 59:56.000 --> 59:58.000 It says, Mark 12, verse 38 says, 59:58.000 --> 01:00:01.000 And he said unto them, this is a parallel passage. 01:00:01.000 --> 01:00:04.000 He said unto them in his doctrine, 01:00:04.000 --> 01:00:08.000 Beware of the scribes which love to go in long clothing. 01:00:08.000 --> 01:00:10.000 So this is a parallel passage. 01:00:10.000 --> 01:00:16.000 So long clothing can be translated as long robes, right? 01:10:21.000 --> 01:10:23.000 It's like, these are Roman soldiers. 01:10:23.000 --> 01:10:26.000 They probably got more money than Jesus. 01:10:26.000 --> 01:10:27.000 So what does this tell you? 01:10:27.000 --> 01:10:32.000 That the clothes he was wearing, he wasn't wearing rags. 01:10:32.000 --> 01:10:36.000 He wasn't wearing Walmart fall-aparts. 01:10:36.000 --> 01:10:38.000 He was wearing decent clothes. 01:10:38.000 --> 01:10:44.000 Decent enough to where they're ready to gamble for his clothes. 01:10:44.000 --> 01:10:45.000 So what does that tell you? 01:10:45.000 --> 01:10:50.000 That Jesus is not just dressing any willy-nilly way. 01:10:50.000 --> 01:10:53.000 And so clothing is important. 01:10:53.000 --> 01:10:55.000 And I'm not saying it's the most important thing, 01:10:55.000 --> 01:11:00.000 but this is part of the story and part of the persecution of Jesus. 01:11:00.000 --> 01:11:03.000 The fact that they took his clothes, 01:11:03.000 --> 01:11:05.000 and this special coat that he has, 01:11:05.000 --> 01:11:07.000 and remember Joseph had a special coat 01:11:07.000 --> 01:11:11.000 that was divided and torn up by his brothers. 01:11:11.000 --> 01:11:13.000 And it says, and said therefore among themselves, 01:11:13.000 --> 01:11:16.000 let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, 01:11:16.000 --> 01:11:19.000 whose it shall be, that the scripture might be fulfilled, 01:11:19.000 --> 01:11:24.000 that they saith, they parted my raiment among them, 01:11:24.000 --> 01:11:27.000 and for my vesture they did cast lots. 01:11:28.000 --> 01:11:31.000 The other thing that proves to me that that part, 01:11:31.000 --> 01:11:35.000 the vesture is something you'd wear on your upper body, 01:11:35.000 --> 01:11:38.000 is because the coat is what they're talking about here, 01:11:38.000 --> 01:11:41.000 and it says my vesture they did cast lots. 01:11:41.000 --> 01:11:42.000 That's what they cared about. 01:11:42.000 --> 01:11:43.000 They cared more about the coat. 01:11:43.000 --> 01:11:46.000 They said, let us not rend it. 01:11:46.000 --> 01:11:49.000 Let's gamble for who gets the coat. 01:11:49.000 --> 01:11:51.000 And that is the vesture. 01:11:51.000 --> 01:11:54.000 And these things, therefore, the soldiers did. 01:11:54.000 --> 01:11:56.000 So I know that was a long rabbit trail, 01:11:56.000 --> 01:12:00.000 but I mean, to say that clothes are not important at all 01:12:00.000 --> 01:12:02.000 is just not true. 01:12:02.000 --> 01:12:05.000 And Jesus is not wearing some hobo outfit. 01:12:05.000 --> 01:12:08.000 He's wearing actually a nice outfit. 01:12:08.000 --> 01:12:12.000 He probably had that specially made or whatever, 01:12:12.000 --> 01:12:16.000 but he's not wearing the worst clothes he can 01:12:16.000 --> 01:12:18.000 or dressing and rags. 01:12:18.000 --> 01:12:20.000 He's wearing a decent outfit. 01:12:20.000 --> 01:12:25.000 And the fact that he's covered in the verses that it shows 01:12:25.000 --> 01:12:28.000 proves that it does matter what you're wearing. 01:12:28.000 --> 01:12:31.000 The fact that he made coats of skins for Adam and Eve 01:12:31.000 --> 01:12:34.000 and covered them because they weren't covered good enough. 01:12:34.000 --> 01:12:36.000 You know, there's tons of other verses that I could go to, 01:12:36.000 --> 01:12:40.000 but I'm not going to because it's really out of the scope of this sermon. 01:12:40.000 --> 01:12:47.000 But I did kind of want to put the stamp on the whole robe thing. 01:12:47.000 --> 01:12:52.000 And I want to show you that, yes, they do actually make robes that have shorts. 01:12:52.000 --> 01:12:54.000 And you could wear that, and it's not... 01:12:54.000 --> 01:12:56.000 I mean, I wouldn't wear that at a house necessarily. 01:12:56.000 --> 01:12:58.000 It's just not really... 01:12:58.000 --> 01:13:00.000 But it is shorts. It is a robe. 01:13:00.000 --> 01:13:02.000 It's not technically... 01:13:02.000 --> 01:13:05.000 I mean, would you consider that pajamas? 01:13:05.000 --> 01:13:08.000 I mean, if I wore that to Walmart, pretty ghetto, right? 01:13:08.000 --> 01:13:11.000 But that's why I didn't want to put the shorts on. 01:13:11.000 --> 01:13:14.000 Anyway, so anyway, let's move on with the rest of the sermon here. 01:13:14.000 --> 01:13:17.000 Exodus 29, verse 10. 01:13:17.000 --> 01:13:21.000 So Moses puts the special clothes on them, 01:13:21.000 --> 01:13:23.000 the way that God said to do it. 01:13:23.000 --> 01:13:24.000 And it says, 01:13:24.000 --> 01:13:28.000 Now shall cause the bullock to be brought before the tabernacle of the congregation, 01:13:28.000 --> 01:13:32.000 and Aaron and his son shall put their hands upon the head of the bullock, 01:13:32.000 --> 01:13:38.000 and thou shalt kill the bullock before the Lord by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. 01:13:38.000 --> 01:13:43.000 So they specifically had to kill this bullock in a specific spot 01:13:43.000 --> 01:13:47.000 that is by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. 01:13:47.000 --> 01:13:51.000 And of course, Jesus has the famous I Am statements that he said in the book of John. 01:13:51.000 --> 01:13:54.000 And one of those things is, I am the door. 01:13:54.000 --> 01:13:58.000 So he's the door of the congregation. 01:13:58.000 --> 01:14:01.000 This bullock pictures Jesus being killed by the door. 01:14:01.000 --> 01:14:05.000 And go ahead and turn to Ephesians, chapter 5. 01:14:05.000 --> 01:14:08.000 Because I thought this is interesting that it kind of... 01:14:08.000 --> 01:14:14.000 In Ephesians, chapter 5, it kind of uses a lot of the things that's happening in this chapter, 01:14:14.000 --> 01:14:16.000 which I find very interesting. 01:14:16.000 --> 01:14:18.000 Ephesians 5, 25. 01:14:18.000 --> 01:14:22.000 This is the famous marriage passage. 01:14:22.000 --> 01:14:28.000 It's a great passage for teaching on marriage, but it is talking about Christ and the church. 01:14:28.000 --> 01:14:32.000 That's the main passage that it's supposed to be used for. 01:14:32.000 --> 01:14:36.000 But it says in Ephesians 5, 25, husbands love your wives, 01:14:36.000 --> 01:14:41.000 even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it. 01:14:41.000 --> 01:14:45.000 Where's Aaron and his son supposed to put their hands on the bullock? 01:14:45.000 --> 01:14:48.000 The door of the tabernacle of the congregation. 01:14:48.000 --> 01:14:55.000 And it says that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of the water by the word. 01:14:55.000 --> 01:14:57.000 So what is going on in this chapter again? 01:14:57.000 --> 01:15:00.000 They're being sanctified, they're being cleansed, 01:15:00.000 --> 01:15:05.000 and they're washed with water by Moses right before this happens, right? 01:15:05.000 --> 01:15:09.000 And that he might present it to himself a glorious church, 01:15:09.000 --> 01:15:12.000 not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, 01:15:13.000 --> 01:15:17.000 but that it should be holy and without blemish. 01:15:17.000 --> 01:15:21.000 And so this sanctification process that's going on, 01:15:21.000 --> 01:15:26.000 ultimately the blood of Christ is going to be the fulfillment of what's going on here, 01:15:26.000 --> 01:15:29.000 but back in Exodus 29, 12 it says, 01:15:29.000 --> 01:15:32.000 And thou shalt take of the blood of the bullock, 01:15:32.000 --> 01:15:35.000 and put it upon the horns of the altar with thy finger, 01:15:35.000 --> 01:15:39.000 and pour all the blood beside the bottom of the altar. 01:15:39.000 --> 01:15:42.000 What does this kind of make you think about? 01:15:42.000 --> 01:15:48.000 Well, it's the altar, and he has to put the blood with his finger on it. 01:15:48.000 --> 01:15:51.000 And what does Jesus do after he dies on the cross, 01:15:51.000 --> 01:15:54.000 and all of his blood is poured out upon him? 01:15:54.000 --> 01:15:58.000 He resurrects from the dead, and Mary comes and tries to touch him, 01:15:58.000 --> 01:16:00.000 and what does he say to her? 01:16:00.000 --> 01:16:03.000 He says, Touch me not, for I have not yet ascended to my Father. Right? 01:16:03.000 --> 01:16:05.000 Now turn to Hebrews chapter 9. 01:16:10.000 --> 01:16:14.000 So they had to pour all the blood beside the bottom of the altar. 01:16:16.000 --> 01:16:19.000 They had to touch the altar with his finger, 01:16:19.000 --> 01:16:22.000 pour the blood beside the bottom of the altar. 01:16:25.000 --> 01:16:27.000 And then Hebrews 9, 12 it says, 01:16:27.000 --> 01:16:30.000 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, 01:16:30.000 --> 01:16:36.000 but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, 01:16:36.000 --> 01:16:40.000 having obtained eternal redemption for us. 01:16:40.000 --> 01:16:45.000 Now I realize that this is talking about the holy place that's inside the tabernacle, 01:16:45.000 --> 01:16:52.000 but the blood being shed on the altar is where he gets the blood. 01:16:52.000 --> 01:16:55.000 You know, Jesus dies on the cross. 01:16:55.000 --> 01:17:00.000 That is the picture, and then going to hell for three days and three nights. 01:17:00.000 --> 01:17:03.000 So the wood he's placed upon is the cross, 01:17:03.000 --> 01:17:07.000 but the altar itself is how do they cook things on it? 01:17:07.000 --> 01:17:10.000 How do they roast these offerings with fire? 01:17:10.000 --> 01:17:14.000 Well, they put the wood on top of it, then they put the sacrifice on top of it. 01:17:14.000 --> 01:17:17.000 They burn it, and then they take the blood in, 01:17:17.000 --> 01:17:20.000 and Aaron has to take that blood, and it has to be on his ear. 01:17:20.000 --> 01:17:22.000 It's going to go through that here in just a minute, 01:17:22.000 --> 01:17:25.000 but he has to take that in and put that on the mercy seat. A sin offering. 01:17:49.000 --> 01:17:52.000 So, I mean, they're going through this whole process. 01:17:52.000 --> 01:17:55.000 I mean, this whole chapter, again, is this whole process 01:17:55.000 --> 01:17:58.000 of just being able to serve God in this capacity. 01:17:59.000 --> 01:18:02.000 Hebrews 13, verse 11, you can turn there if you want to, 01:18:02.000 --> 01:18:04.000 or just keep your place in Exodus, 01:18:04.000 --> 01:18:06.000 but just listen if you're not going to turn. 01:18:06.000 --> 01:18:07.000 Hebrews 13, 11 says, 01:18:07.000 --> 01:18:09.000 For the bodies of those beasts, 01:18:09.000 --> 01:18:12.000 whose blood is brought into the sanctuary 01:18:12.000 --> 01:18:14.000 by the high priest for sin, 01:18:14.000 --> 01:18:16.000 are burned without the camp. 01:18:16.000 --> 01:18:17.000 Wherefore Jesus also, 01:18:17.000 --> 01:18:20.000 that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, 01:18:20.000 --> 01:18:22.000 suffered without the gate. 01:18:22.000 --> 01:18:26.000 Let us therefore, let us go forth therefore unto him 01:18:26.000 --> 01:18:28.000 without the camp, bearing his reproach. 01:18:28.000 --> 01:18:31.000 So, a lot of these things are directly correlating 01:18:31.000 --> 01:18:34.000 to the book of Hebrews to help us understand 01:18:34.000 --> 01:18:36.000 what the meaning of these things are. 01:18:36.000 --> 01:18:39.000 Exodus 29, 15, 01:18:39.000 --> 01:18:42.000 Thou shalt also take one ram, and Aaron, and his sons, 01:18:42.000 --> 01:18:44.000 and put their hands upon the head of the ram. 01:18:44.000 --> 01:18:46.000 And thou shalt slay the ram, 01:18:46.000 --> 01:18:48.000 and thou shalt take his blood, 01:18:48.000 --> 01:18:51.000 and sprinkle it around about upon the altar, 01:18:51.000 --> 01:18:54.000 and thou shalt cut the ram in pieces 01:18:54.000 --> 01:18:57.000 and wash the inwards of him, his legs, 01:18:57.000 --> 01:19:00.000 and put them into his pieces, and unto his head. 01:19:00.000 --> 01:19:03.000 And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the altar. 01:19:03.000 --> 01:19:05.000 It is a burnt offering unto the Lord. 01:19:05.000 --> 01:19:07.000 It is a sweet savor, 01:19:07.000 --> 01:19:10.000 an offering made by fire unto the Lord. 01:19:10.000 --> 01:19:13.000 So, I mean, just think about having all this, 01:19:13.000 --> 01:19:15.000 having to do all this work. 01:19:15.000 --> 01:19:19.000 And at this point, Moses is the one doing all this stuff. 01:19:19.000 --> 01:19:21.000 And they're kind of, you know, 01:19:21.000 --> 01:19:23.000 they're putting their hands on everything, 01:19:23.000 --> 01:19:26.000 but Moses is the one chopping them all up. 01:19:26.000 --> 01:19:29.000 Moses is the one that's doing all the things. 01:19:29.000 --> 01:19:30.000 And it's kind of like, 01:19:30.000 --> 01:19:33.000 because Moses really does picture Christ, 01:19:33.000 --> 01:19:35.000 and he's the one that does all the work, 01:19:35.000 --> 01:19:38.000 and then he's the one that sanctifies us. 01:19:38.000 --> 01:19:41.000 And so, really, I think that's why 01:19:41.000 --> 01:19:43.000 God is having Moses do all this stuff. 01:19:43.000 --> 01:19:45.000 Because Moses is not the high priest, 01:19:45.000 --> 01:19:47.000 but Jesus becomes the high priest 01:19:47.000 --> 01:19:50.000 after he does all the work, right? 01:19:50.000 --> 01:19:53.000 So, Jesus becomes the high priest 01:19:53.000 --> 01:19:55.000 after he does all this stuff, 01:19:55.000 --> 01:19:57.000 and then becomes the high priest. 01:19:57.000 --> 01:20:01.000 So it makes sense that Moses is doing all the work 01:20:01.000 --> 01:20:04.000 because Christ did all the work for us. 01:20:04.000 --> 01:20:07.000 And then he consecrates us, he sanctifies us, 01:20:07.000 --> 01:20:09.000 he cleanses us, and cleans us up, 01:20:09.000 --> 01:20:12.000 and then, you know, then he makes us suitable 01:20:12.000 --> 01:20:14.000 to serve with him by this cleansing. 01:20:14.000 --> 01:20:17.000 So, it's really a cool picture, I think. 01:20:17.000 --> 01:20:20.000 But, you know, then it says it's a sweet savor, 01:20:20.000 --> 01:20:25.000 an offering made by fire unto the Lord. 01:20:25.000 --> 01:20:28.000 Now, I'm gonna have you go back to Isaiah 53. 01:20:28.000 --> 01:20:30.000 I know we looked at it, you know, 01:20:30.000 --> 01:20:32.000 multiple times in the last couple weeks, 01:20:32.000 --> 01:20:37.000 but, again, Isaiah 53 is the passage 01:20:37.000 --> 01:20:39.000 about how Christ is gonna suffer for us, 01:20:39.000 --> 01:20:41.000 and did suffer for us. 01:20:41.000 --> 01:20:46.000 But, you know how it says that it's a sweet savor? 01:20:46.000 --> 01:20:48.000 When the burnt offering goes unto the Lord, 01:20:48.000 --> 01:20:53.000 it's a sweet savor, an offering made by fire unto the Lord. 01:20:53.000 --> 01:20:56.000 You know, a sweet savor means it smells good. 01:20:56.000 --> 01:20:59.000 When you make a steak on a barbecue, 01:20:59.000 --> 01:21:01.000 what does it smell like to you guys? 01:21:01.000 --> 01:21:03.000 It's a sweet savor, isn't it? 01:21:03.000 --> 01:21:05.000 It smells good. 01:21:05.000 --> 01:21:09.000 This is animal flesh cooking on a barbecue, 01:21:09.000 --> 01:21:11.000 and it smells good. 01:21:11.000 --> 01:21:16.000 And so when it smells good, you wanna eat it, don't you? 01:21:16.000 --> 01:21:19.000 I mean, you're like, man, that steak smells great. 01:21:19.000 --> 01:21:24.000 Medium, medium rare, or who likes rare? 01:21:24.000 --> 01:21:25.000 Y'all weird. 01:21:25.000 --> 01:21:27.000 Anyway, I'm just kidding. 01:21:27.000 --> 01:21:30.000 But, you know, however you like your steak, 01:21:30.000 --> 01:21:32.000 it smells good, right, when you cook it. 01:21:32.000 --> 01:21:37.000 But it's weird how it's likened unto, you know, 01:21:37.000 --> 01:21:42.000 God smells this smell, and he thinks it smells good. 01:21:42.000 --> 01:21:44.000 But what is it picturing, though? 01:21:44.000 --> 01:21:47.000 It's picturing the fact that when Christ 01:21:47.000 --> 01:21:51.000 actually makes his atonement and sacrifice, 01:21:51.000 --> 01:21:56.000 that what he does, not just the fact that he's in hell, 01:21:56.000 --> 01:21:59.000 not just the fact that he died, 01:21:59.000 --> 01:22:03.000 but the perfect life, like everything it took 01:22:03.000 --> 01:22:05.000 to purchase our salvation, 01:22:05.000 --> 01:22:07.000 once it finally culminates in everything, 01:22:07.000 --> 01:22:11.000 that is the sweet savor that God smells, 01:22:11.000 --> 01:22:13.000 that this is picturing. 01:22:13.000 --> 01:22:16.000 And that God is satisfied, 01:22:16.000 --> 01:22:20.000 because you're satisfied when you finally get the steak. 01:22:20.000 --> 01:22:23.000 You're satisfied when you smell the smell, 01:22:23.000 --> 01:22:25.000 and you're like, oh man, that smells great. 01:22:25.000 --> 01:22:27.000 But when you finally get to have the steak 01:22:27.000 --> 01:22:29.000 when it actually becomes a reality, 01:22:29.000 --> 01:22:32.000 that's when really the whole thing is complete, right? 01:22:32.000 --> 01:22:35.000 Look at Isaiah 53, 10, it says, 01:22:35.000 --> 01:22:37.000 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him. 01:22:37.000 --> 01:22:39.000 He hath put him to grief, 01:22:39.000 --> 01:22:42.000 when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin. 01:22:42.000 --> 01:22:45.000 He shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, 01:22:45.000 --> 01:22:49.000 and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. 01:22:49.000 --> 01:22:51.000 He shall see the travail of his soul, 01:22:51.000 --> 01:22:53.000 and shall be, what's it say there? 01:22:53.000 --> 01:22:55.000 Satisfied. 01:22:55.000 --> 01:22:59.000 So he's satisfied with what's happened with the sacrifice. 01:22:59.000 --> 01:23:01.000 By his knowledge shall my righteous servant 01:23:01.000 --> 01:23:05.000 justify many, for he shall bear their iniquities. 01:23:05.000 --> 01:23:08.000 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, 01:23:08.000 --> 01:23:10.000 and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, 01:23:10.000 --> 01:23:13.000 because he hath poured out his soul unto death. 01:23:13.000 --> 01:23:16.000 Now when you think about pouring out your soul unto death, 01:23:16.000 --> 01:23:20.000 the Bible says that in the blood is the life. 01:23:20.000 --> 01:23:23.000 And when his soul is poured out, 01:23:23.000 --> 01:23:25.000 obviously it's talking about the anguish 01:23:25.000 --> 01:23:28.000 that it goes through, and it's talking about him, 01:23:28.000 --> 01:23:31.000 his soul definitely goes to hell, 01:23:31.000 --> 01:23:34.000 but his blood also is poured out. 01:23:34.000 --> 01:23:38.000 And so it says he hath poured out his soul unto death. 01:23:38.000 --> 01:23:40.000 You know when all the blood leaves your body, 01:23:40.000 --> 01:23:41.000 guess what happens to you? 01:23:41.000 --> 01:23:43.000 You die. 01:23:43.000 --> 01:23:46.000 And it says, and he was numbered with the transgressors, 01:23:46.000 --> 01:23:48.000 and he bared the sin of many, 01:23:48.000 --> 01:23:51.000 and made intercession for the transgressors. 01:23:51.000 --> 01:23:55.000 So I mean when that sweet saver comes up, 01:23:55.000 --> 01:23:57.000 like when God asked him to do these sacrifices, 01:23:58.000 --> 01:24:02.000 he's helping us to understand kind of 01:24:02.000 --> 01:24:05.000 when the ultimate sacrifice is made, 01:24:05.000 --> 01:24:07.000 that to God that is well pleasing, 01:24:07.000 --> 01:24:09.000 and satisfactory to him. 01:24:09.000 --> 01:24:13.000 And so when we smell this smell, 01:24:13.000 --> 01:24:16.000 it kind of makes us understand a little bit 01:24:16.000 --> 01:24:20.000 that it's pleasing, that that smell is pleasing to us. 01:24:20.000 --> 01:24:23.000 That's why they probably have to burn the skin 01:24:23.000 --> 01:24:25.000 outside of the camp, because you know what? 01:24:25.000 --> 01:24:28.000 Burning skin and hair doesn't smell good at all, does it? 01:24:28.000 --> 01:24:29.000 It smells disgusting. 01:24:29.000 --> 01:24:32.000 That's why they burn that outside the camp, right? 01:24:32.000 --> 01:24:37.000 But Exodus 29 verse 19 says, 01:24:37.000 --> 01:24:39.000 And thou shalt take the other ram, 01:24:39.000 --> 01:24:41.000 and Aaron his son shall put their hands 01:24:41.000 --> 01:24:43.000 upon the head of the ram, 01:24:43.000 --> 01:24:45.000 and thou shalt kill the ram, 01:24:45.000 --> 01:24:46.000 and take his blood, 01:24:46.000 --> 01:24:48.000 and put it upon the tip of the right ear of Aaron, 01:24:48.000 --> 01:24:52.000 and upon the tip of the right ear of his sons, 01:24:52.000 --> 01:24:54.000 and upon the thumb of their right hand, 01:24:54.000 --> 01:24:57.000 and upon the great toe of their right foot, 01:24:57.000 --> 01:25:01.000 and sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about. 01:25:01.000 --> 01:25:03.000 So they kill the ram, 01:25:03.000 --> 01:25:05.000 and they put the blood in all these different places 01:25:05.000 --> 01:25:07.000 on the right-hand side every time, 01:25:07.000 --> 01:25:09.000 not on the left-hand side. 01:25:09.000 --> 01:25:10.000 If you're left-handed, you're wicked. 01:25:10.000 --> 01:25:12.000 That's just all there is to it. 01:25:12.000 --> 01:25:13.000 I'm just kidding. 01:25:13.000 --> 01:25:15.000 But it does picture something. 01:25:15.000 --> 01:25:16.000 What does it picture? 01:25:16.000 --> 01:25:20.000 Well, in the Bible, the right hand 01:25:20.000 --> 01:25:23.000 is pictured as the righteous side, 01:25:23.000 --> 01:25:26.000 or the right-hand side of God. 01:25:26.000 --> 01:25:28.000 Who's at the right hand of God? 01:25:28.000 --> 01:25:30.000 Jesus Christ. 01:25:30.000 --> 01:25:31.000 Romans 8, 34 says, 01:25:31.000 --> 01:25:33.000 Who is he that condemneth? 01:25:33.000 --> 01:25:34.000 It is Christ that died, 01:25:34.000 --> 01:25:36.000 yea, rather that is risen again, 01:25:36.000 --> 01:25:39.000 who is even at the right hand of God, 01:25:39.000 --> 01:25:43.000 who also maketh intercession for us. 01:25:43.000 --> 01:25:46.000 So what is this picturing here? 01:25:46.000 --> 01:25:48.000 Well, it's picturing the fact that Aaron 01:25:48.000 --> 01:25:51.000 is gonna be playing that part of the high priest. 01:25:51.000 --> 01:25:52.000 He is the high priest. 01:25:52.000 --> 01:25:57.000 And all that blood is being on the right side of him, 01:25:57.000 --> 01:26:00.000 picturing the fact that he's gonna make intercession 01:26:00.000 --> 01:26:01.000 for the children of Israel, 01:26:01.000 --> 01:26:04.000 just like Jesus Christ is literally going to do it 01:26:04.000 --> 01:26:06.000 for the children of Israel, 01:26:06.000 --> 01:26:08.000 and he's gonna make intercession for us, 01:26:08.000 --> 01:26:11.000 and he is at the right hand of God. 01:26:11.000 --> 01:26:12.000 He is the right hand of God. 01:26:12.000 --> 01:26:16.000 So, Exodus 29, verse 21. 01:26:16.000 --> 01:26:18.000 And thou shalt take the blood that is upon the altar 01:26:18.000 --> 01:26:20.000 and of the anointing oil, 01:26:20.000 --> 01:26:22.000 and sprinkle it upon Aaron. 01:26:22.000 --> 01:26:25.000 So here's where it starts getting gross, all right? 01:26:25.000 --> 01:26:29.000 This is, it's not just fake blood. 01:26:29.000 --> 01:26:31.000 This is real blood, right? 01:26:31.000 --> 01:26:34.000 Thou shalt take the blood that is upon the altar 01:26:34.000 --> 01:26:36.000 and of the anointing oil, 01:26:36.000 --> 01:26:38.000 so it's oil mixed with blood, 01:26:38.000 --> 01:26:40.000 and sprinkle it upon Aaron 01:26:40.000 --> 01:26:43.000 and upon his garments. 01:26:43.000 --> 01:26:45.000 The brand new clothes that he just got 01:26:45.000 --> 01:26:47.000 that already have oil on them now, 01:26:47.000 --> 01:26:51.000 it's blood and oil being sprinkled upon him, right? 01:26:51.000 --> 01:26:55.000 And upon his garments, and upon his sons, 01:26:55.000 --> 01:26:58.000 and upon the garments of his sons with him, 01:26:58.000 --> 01:27:00.000 and he shall be hallowed, 01:27:00.000 --> 01:27:02.000 and his garments, and his sons, 01:27:02.000 --> 01:27:04.000 and his sons' garments with him. 01:27:04.000 --> 01:27:08.000 So, everything has to be cleansed with blood. 01:27:08.000 --> 01:27:11.000 Everything they're wearing themselves, 01:27:11.000 --> 01:27:14.000 and really, what is this picturing? 01:27:22.000 --> 01:27:25.000 And we also have to have the Holy Spirit. 01:27:25.000 --> 01:27:28.000 And thou shalt take the ram of the fat, 01:27:28.000 --> 01:27:31.000 the ram, the fat, and the rump, and the fat 01:27:31.000 --> 01:27:33.000 that covereth the inwards, and the call above the liver, 01:27:33.000 --> 01:27:36.000 and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, 01:27:36.000 --> 01:27:40.000 and the right shoulder, for it is a ram of consecration. 01:27:40.000 --> 01:27:44.000 This is a special type of offering for this consecration 01:27:44.000 --> 01:27:47.000 for the high priest and for his sons. 01:27:47.000 --> 01:27:51.000 And one loaf of bread, one cake of oil bread, 01:27:51.000 --> 01:27:55.000 and one wafer of the basket of the unleavened bread 01:27:55.000 --> 01:27:57.000 that is before the Lord. 01:27:57.000 --> 01:28:00.000 And thou shalt put all in the hands of Aaron, 01:28:00.000 --> 01:28:04.000 and in the hands of his sons, and shalt waive them 01:28:04.000 --> 01:28:07.000 for a waive offering before the Lord. 01:28:07.000 --> 01:28:09.000 You're like, what in the world is going on here? 01:28:09.000 --> 01:28:11.000 This is kind of tough. 01:28:11.000 --> 01:28:13.000 What does this mean? 01:28:14.000 --> 01:28:15.000 I don't know. 01:28:15.000 --> 01:28:20.000 I mean, they're waiving this in front of the Lord. 01:28:20.000 --> 01:28:22.000 I don't know if they're waiving it like this. 01:28:22.000 --> 01:28:25.000 It kind of seems like they're waiving it like this. 01:28:25.000 --> 01:28:27.000 They're just waiving it before the Lord. 01:28:27.000 --> 01:28:29.000 So what are they waiving? 01:28:29.000 --> 01:28:31.000 Well, the bread. 01:28:31.000 --> 01:28:33.000 Well, these three different types of bread, 01:28:33.000 --> 01:28:35.000 out of that basket, remember the basket, 01:28:35.000 --> 01:28:40.000 and the right shoulder of the ram. 01:28:40.000 --> 01:28:41.000 And they're waiving this. 01:28:41.000 --> 01:28:42.000 It's in the hands of Aaron. 01:28:42.000 --> 01:28:43.000 He's waiving it. 01:28:43.000 --> 01:28:44.000 And it says in verse 25, 01:28:44.000 --> 01:28:47.000 and thou shalt receive them of their hands, 01:28:47.000 --> 01:28:50.000 and burn them upon the altar for a burnt offering 01:28:50.000 --> 01:28:52.000 for a sweet savor before the Lord. 01:28:52.000 --> 01:28:54.000 It is an offering made by fire unto the Lord, 01:28:54.000 --> 01:28:57.000 and thou shalt take the breast of the ram 01:28:57.000 --> 01:28:58.000 of Aaron's consecration, 01:28:58.000 --> 01:29:02.000 and waive it for a waive offering before the Lord, 01:29:02.000 --> 01:29:04.000 and it shall be thy part. 01:29:04.000 --> 01:29:07.000 So we don't have time to go to all the scriptures about it, 01:29:07.000 --> 01:29:09.000 but it talks about it in other passages 01:29:09.000 --> 01:29:13.000 like in Leviticus and other spots and numbers. 01:29:13.000 --> 01:29:17.000 And specifically, when his sons offer strange fire, 01:29:17.000 --> 01:29:20.000 Aaron's sons, and they die before the Lord, 01:29:20.000 --> 01:29:24.000 he doesn't eat this offering 01:29:24.000 --> 01:29:27.000 at the specific time that he's supposed to, 01:29:27.000 --> 01:29:29.000 and Moses gets on his case about it. 01:29:29.000 --> 01:29:32.000 And maybe when it covers it again in Exodus 35, 01:29:32.000 --> 01:29:33.000 we'll go to that passage, 01:29:33.000 --> 01:29:36.000 but tonight we're not gonna do that for sake of time. 01:29:36.000 --> 01:29:39.000 But anyway, it says in verse 27, 01:29:39.000 --> 01:29:42.000 and thou shalt sanctify the breast of the waive offering. 01:29:42.000 --> 01:29:44.000 So there's the shoulder of the ram, 01:29:44.000 --> 01:29:47.000 and then the breast of the waive offering, 01:29:47.000 --> 01:29:50.000 and the shoulder of the heave offering, 01:29:50.000 --> 01:29:54.000 which is waived, which is heaved up. 01:29:54.000 --> 01:29:58.000 So it's waived and heaved up. 01:29:58.000 --> 01:30:02.000 So you got this waiving motion, 01:30:02.000 --> 01:30:04.000 and then you gotta heave up. 01:30:04.000 --> 01:30:06.000 What do you think that that means? 01:35:32.000 --> 01:35:35.000 It just shows how holy God is. 01:35:35.000 --> 01:35:43.000 And without Christ, without his special atoning and perfect life 01:35:43.000 --> 01:35:46.000 and all the things that he did, 01:35:46.000 --> 01:35:54.000 this is how that you can even come close to getting close to God at all. 01:35:54.000 --> 01:35:56.000 And these were the priests. 01:35:56.000 --> 01:35:59.000 The regular people, they couldn't do this. 01:35:59.000 --> 01:36:01.000 It was only the priests. 01:36:01.000 --> 01:36:06.000 And so before the New Testament came, people couldn't just approach him to God however they wanted. 01:36:06.000 --> 01:36:12.000 They had to go through all these special cleansing rituals and all this stuff 01:36:12.000 --> 01:36:21.000 and it shows just how set apart and how holy you have to be to even appear before him to just serve him at all. 01:36:21.000 --> 01:36:27.000 And that just shows, I mean think about having to do all that stuff before you come to church. 01:36:27.000 --> 01:36:32.000 Think about if I had to do all that stuff before we, I mean there'd be a lot of people just not coming to church. 01:36:32.000 --> 01:36:38.000 It'd be pretty, I mean to have to kill all these animals and pour blood all over you. 01:36:38.000 --> 01:36:44.000 I mean because remember I think it was a few chapters back where Moses is having to sprinkle the people with blood. 01:36:44.000 --> 01:36:51.000 Remember at Mount Sinai he's having to sprinkle the people with blood, sprinkle the Bible, everything. 01:36:51.000 --> 01:36:56.000 Everything that they use in the service of the tabernacle, they have to pour blood all over everything. 01:36:56.000 --> 01:37:09.000 And so, and only after doing all these things and being of the right tribe, of the right family of that tribe, 01:37:09.000 --> 01:37:17.000 and then being ceremoniously purified and cleansed could they even come close to God at all. 01:37:17.000 --> 01:37:27.000 And if everything was not specifically carried out to the T, you were risking your life to even mess up one little detail of this whole process. 01:37:27.000 --> 01:37:35.000 I mean God killed Aaron's two sons and it says that they offered strange fire to the Lord. 01:37:35.000 --> 01:37:44.000 It doesn't say what that meant exactly, but right afterward it said you shouldn't drink alcohol and go into the house of the Lord. 01:37:44.000 --> 01:37:49.000 My guess is that's what they did and God was not very happy about that. 01:37:49.000 --> 01:37:59.000 And so, but you do one thing back then in the service of God that you weren't supposed to be doing like this and you're out. 01:37:59.000 --> 01:38:04.000 And just remember the bells in the outfit a few weeks ago? 01:38:04.000 --> 01:38:09.000 They had to put the bells and the pomegranates on the hems of their outfits 01:38:09.000 --> 01:38:17.000 because if you didn't have a sound going before you into the holy place, then God could possibly kill you for that. 01:38:17.000 --> 01:38:19.000 I mean this is how holy God is. 01:38:19.000 --> 01:38:27.000 And just the fact that we have Jesus and it's this easy for us to come in and meet with God, I mean it's pretty amazing. 01:38:27.000 --> 01:38:32.000 And really all this wasn't even good enough what these guys had to do. 01:38:32.000 --> 01:38:39.000 This was just kind of like a here's what I'll let you work with until Jesus comes. 01:38:39.000 --> 01:38:43.000 This is how I'll let you even serve me and be with me at all. 01:38:43.000 --> 01:38:50.000 And it's all symbolic of just how perfect and holy Christ is and everything he had to do to redeem us. 01:38:50.000 --> 01:38:58.000 And what he accomplished was and is good enough for all times. 01:38:58.000 --> 01:39:06.000 I mean I just think that's pretty amazing because that was a grueling chapter of all the things that they had to do. 01:39:06.000 --> 01:39:14.000 And you got all these clowns out there thinking that they're going to be able to do enough to earn their own salvation. 01:39:14.000 --> 01:39:21.000 I mean just think about this chapter the next time somebody at the door tells you that they're going to heaven because they're a good person. 01:39:21.000 --> 01:39:31.000 And it's like even the priest that loved God in the Old Testament couldn't even come close to him without carving up an animal. 01:39:31.000 --> 01:39:40.000 Seven days offering all these offerings, putting them on an altar that had been cleansed for seven days. 01:39:40.000 --> 01:39:46.000 And then you're going to say you're a good person while you're smoking a cigarette and drinking beer balls all over the front of your house. 01:39:46.000 --> 01:39:52.000 Really? I mean they need to realize just how holy God is. 01:39:52.000 --> 01:39:54.000 And sometimes we just got to put the fear of God into them. 01:39:54.000 --> 01:40:01.000 Without Jesus imputing the righteousness to us, we could never even be in his presence at all. 01:40:01.000 --> 01:40:08.000 But when the veil was rent in twain at his death, when Jesus took on the role of our high priest forever, 01:40:08.000 --> 01:40:18.000 making us clean enough by his applied blood, there was no longer the need to wash ourselves in these kinds of ceremonies. 01:40:18.000 --> 01:40:25.000 For days on end and sprinkle blood and kill animals and drain their blood and burn them and clean them over and over again. 01:40:25.000 --> 01:40:29.000 Because if you notice they had to clean the altar every time that they used it too. 01:40:29.000 --> 01:40:33.000 So it's just like you know guys you clean your barbecues. 01:40:33.000 --> 01:40:35.000 You know some people are more meticulous than others. 01:40:36.000 --> 01:40:41.000 Sometimes you like to have those grunnions left over to kind of flavor it up. 01:40:41.000 --> 01:40:46.000 What do you call that ladies when you leave the cast iron skillet? 01:40:46.000 --> 01:40:48.000 You call it the seasoning. 01:40:48.000 --> 01:40:51.000 Yeah I call it leftover grease. 01:40:51.000 --> 01:40:57.000 But they had to clean everything. 01:40:57.000 --> 01:41:02.000 It was like they didn't, you know, it was a big deal. 01:41:03.000 --> 01:41:07.000 The New Testament is just so much better. We're so much more blessed to live in this testament. 01:41:07.000 --> 01:41:10.000 And it's so weird how people want to go back to the Old Testament. 01:41:10.000 --> 01:41:15.000 And you know these Jews that want to live by this it's like they're not even doing it. 01:41:15.000 --> 01:41:18.000 They're not doing any of this stuff. 01:41:18.000 --> 01:41:26.000 Like how do they think that they're going to go to heaven and they don't even do any of this stuff that they think requires them to go to heaven? 01:41:26.000 --> 01:41:29.000 They don't have altars. They don't have the animals. 01:41:29.000 --> 01:41:35.000 If they tried to put these animals on an altar right now PETA would be over them so fast their heads would spin. 01:41:35.000 --> 01:41:41.000 That's going to take a special covenant to even allow that to take place. 01:41:41.000 --> 01:41:45.000 They'll probably have to do like clone animals or something. Who knows? 01:41:45.000 --> 01:41:47.000 The world's getting so weird. 01:41:47.000 --> 01:41:52.000 But we're saved and sanctified by Jesus Christ's blood alone. 01:41:52.000 --> 01:41:56.000 He went up there one time, put his blood on the altar, saves us forever. 01:41:56.000 --> 01:42:00.000 We're sanctified by the word of God. 01:42:00.000 --> 01:42:06.000 And we're baptized once. We don't have to do it over and over again every week. 01:42:06.000 --> 01:42:10.000 And you know Jesus went to the altar for us. 01:42:10.000 --> 01:42:13.000 He was the burnt sacrifice for us. 01:42:13.000 --> 01:42:16.000 God provided himself a lamb for the burnt offering. 01:42:16.000 --> 01:42:19.000 And so that we never have to see that place one time. 01:42:19.000 --> 01:42:22.000 And you know that's a great blessing. 01:42:22.000 --> 01:42:28.000 And so we get to be as kings and priests forever without having to do all that stuff. 01:42:28.000 --> 01:42:30.000 Praise God for that. 01:42:30.000 --> 01:42:34.000 Alright let's pray.
