of the sermon this afternoon is the leaven of fornication the leaven of fornication and fornication is not adultery I just want to make that clear 19:01.000 --> 19:27.000 fornication is when individuals have it's not relations outside of marriage but they're not married right adultery is when you basically decide to be with someone else while you're married you decide to just engage in that activity with somebody else but when you do that before marriage or even after marriage and you're just moving like you're just partner after partner that's fornication but the Bible is actually really it's a really interesting 19:27.000 --> 19:57.000 it's a really horrible sin for two reasons number one it's a sin of the flesh right it's a sin that affects us personally but also there's a spiritual application where we then fall into committing fornication spiritually against God against the church against the Lord Jesus Christ the Bible gives us not just a couple of verses it's a rampant problem throughout the entire Old and New Testament and it's a rampant problem 19:57.000 --> 20:27.000 both the physical act of fornication and the spiritual act of fornication we'll touch on that here today but something really stood out to me here today as we were reading this is right there in verse number nine it says I wrote unto you an epistle not to accompany with fornicator you know and I've preached that obviously this is the sin of the believers and the sins that certain believers are doing but here he says to fornicators just general he says 20:27.000 --> 20:57.000 yet not all together with fornicators of this world and notice how he said of this world so he's talking to everybody in general right he says or with covetous or extortioners or with idolaters for then must he needs go out of the world but then in the verse 11 now he says but now I have written unto you not to keep company if any man that is called a brother so he's saying hey this is a problem with the idolaters because then you must need to go out of the world but then he says you know what it's gotten so bad that even your brothers if they meet this criteria you should keep company with God mortified the law so that we would be free to serve the Lord Jesus Christ. 01:11:28.140 --> 01:11:36.140 That's what it's saying here, right? For we were in the flesh, the motions of sin, which were by the law did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. 01:11:36.140 --> 01:11:45.140 But now we are delivered from the law that being dead, we were held that we should serve in newness of spirit and not in the oldness of the letter. 01:11:45.140 --> 01:11:49.140 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. 01:11:49.140 --> 01:12:13.140 God forbid. 01:12:13.140 --> 01:12:16.140 The Bible saying here, hey, that's what God said. 01:12:16.140 --> 01:12:25.140 Remember, the law doesn't in other verses, it says that the law no longer applies to not that we shouldn't obey the law, but we now. 01:12:25.140 --> 01:12:29.140 But the Lord Jesus Christ, so we should remain faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ. 01:12:29.140 --> 01:12:32.140 That's why we don't want to engage in sin. 01:12:32.140 --> 01:12:42.140 I mean, obviously we're sinners, but the harder we try not to engage in sin, then the sin that we are committing shouldn't be as. 01:12:42.140 --> 01:12:46.140 As fornication or covetousness or something like that, right? 01:12:46.140 --> 01:12:50.140 Rampant drug use, things of that nature. 01:12:50.140 --> 01:13:01.140 For the sake of time, just go to Ezekiel 16 and I'll start to close this thing out right there in Ezekiel 16. 01:13:01.140 --> 01:13:06.140 When Christians love the world more than God, what do they do? They're committing spiritual fornication. 01:13:06.140 --> 01:13:19.140 In 16 verse 27 says, Behold, therefore I have stretched out my hand over thee and have diminished thine ordinary food and delivered thee unto the will of them that hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, which you're ashamed of thy lewd way. 01:13:19.140 --> 01:13:30.140 Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou was unsatiable, yet thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied. 01:13:30.140 --> 01:13:39.140 Thou hast moreover multiplied thy fornications in the land of Canaan unto Chaldea, and yet thou was not satisfied herewith. 01:13:39.140 --> 01:13:49.140 How weak is in thine heart, saith the Lord God, seeing thou doest all these things to work an imperious whoreish woman. 01:13:49.140 --> 01:14:00.140 In that thou buildest thine enemies' eminent place in the head of every way, and makest thine high places in every street, and thou hast not been as in harlot, in that thou scornest higher. 01:14:00.140 --> 01:14:14.140 But as a wife that committed adultery, which taketh strangers instead of her husband, they give gifts to all whores, but thou givest thy gifts to all thy lovers, and hires them that they may come unto thee on every side of thy hoard of... 01:14:14.140 --> 01:14:16.140 Man, that's some pretty rough words. 01:14:16.140 --> 01:14:23.140 And it's talking about both the physical and the spiritual fornication of the church. 01:14:23.140 --> 01:14:26.140 God doesn't like that. 01:14:27.140 --> 01:14:33.140 Right? Go over to Revelation 2. 01:14:33.140 --> 01:14:37.140 So we have the spiritual fornication. 01:14:37.140 --> 01:14:41.140 It carries over to the church. The church is spiritual fornication. 01:14:41.140 --> 01:14:52.140 In Revelation 2, verse 20, the Bible says, Now, withstanding, I have a few things against thee, because thou supparest the woman, Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, 01:14:52.140 --> 01:14:59.140 to teach and to seduce my servants, to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. 01:14:59.140 --> 01:15:02.140 And what's interesting is we don't even have time to go into it. 01:15:02.140 --> 01:15:15.140 Just in the book of Revelation alone, fornication is mentioned ten times, most of it dealing with the spiritual state of the church or the people or the nation. 01:15:15.140 --> 01:15:24.140 You know, we're basically committing fornication when the lusts of Christianity in America are for war. 01:15:24.140 --> 01:15:29.140 Where we're so war-hungry, it doesn't even satisfy us. 01:15:29.140 --> 01:15:32.140 What do we read in Ezekiel? It's like, you are unsatiable. 01:15:32.140 --> 01:15:38.140 Don't we have this unsatiable appetite as Americans to just go out and war? 01:15:38.140 --> 01:15:44.140 I've seen more clips that I care to think about with this little, you know, what is it? 01:15:44.140 --> 01:15:48.140 Number one, you know, start, what is it? And they show like this picture of Donald Trump sending all of his troops to war. 01:15:54.140 --> 01:16:01.140 And they're building up the music. War, war, war. From church. 01:16:19.140 --> 01:16:25.140 The right-wing Christian Republicans are like, yeah, kill them all! 01:16:25.140 --> 01:16:35.140 Calm down, brother. I mean, seriously, it's like, I keep seeing all these videos about, they keep showing a, 01:16:35.140 --> 01:16:40.140 like these videos about how many planes like Iran has and then how many planes the US has. 01:16:40.140 --> 01:16:45.140 You know, what a powerful, you know, army we have. Yeah, we get it. We're powerful. 01:16:45.140 --> 01:16:49.140 It doesn't mean we that just because of that, we just do whatever we want. 01:16:49.140 --> 01:16:53.140 We're not a dictatorship. Well, that could be argued. 01:16:53.140 --> 01:17:00.140 You know, think about the last month, we just took some guy, some president from Venezuela, which is like, hey, we don't like you. 01:17:00.140 --> 01:17:05.140 Take him and his wife. We just randomly decided to attack our ramp. 01:17:05.140 --> 01:17:10.140 And all the surrounding areas just because they said so. 01:17:10.140 --> 01:17:13.140 And not only that, every time we get it, we hear the news. 01:17:13.140 --> 01:17:18.140 They're like, oh, it's going to get worse. And then the last point, I have one minute. 01:17:25.140 --> 01:17:30.140 The last point is why even preach on all this? 01:17:30.140 --> 01:17:34.140 Well, because the purpose of church discipline is to get these people out. 01:17:34.140 --> 01:17:39.140 But you need to know as a church if that action is taken, why has been taken? 01:17:39.140 --> 01:17:43.140 It's not a light manner. I mean, a light matter, right? 01:17:43.140 --> 01:17:49.140 The goal of the church is to grow. And if there's issues, we need to restore and purify the church. 01:17:49.140 --> 01:17:52.140 God says to constantly be sanctifying. I mean, read the Old Testament. 01:17:52.140 --> 01:17:59.140 Everything they did, you know, all the sacrifices, all the offerings, all the atonement was for what? 01:17:59.140 --> 01:18:02.140 Purification and sanctification. 01:18:02.140 --> 01:18:05.140 Go to Galatians 6 and I'll close there. 01:18:10.140 --> 01:18:12.140 The aim of church discipline is for a couple of reasons. 01:18:12.140 --> 01:18:16.140 Number one, we want to protect the church. 01:18:16.140 --> 01:18:19.140 Look, I'm not just so selfish that I just want to protect my children. 01:18:19.140 --> 01:18:24.140 I want to protect your children. I'm not so selfish. I want to just protect my marriage. 01:18:24.140 --> 01:18:28.140 I want to protect your marriages. Right? We need to protect the church. 01:18:28.140 --> 01:18:31.140 And I want to protect the integrity of our doctrines. 01:18:31.140 --> 01:18:35.140 I believe we preach the best doctrines in this area. 01:18:35.140 --> 01:18:38.140 I want to protect that integrity. Right? 01:18:38.140 --> 01:18:43.140 We want to protect the spread of sin. And if possible, we do want to restore the sinner. 01:18:43.140 --> 01:18:48.140 Because in 1 Corinthians 5 later on in Corinthians, that sinner does get restored. Right? 01:18:48.140 --> 01:18:51.140 We don't want to just beat them down. 01:18:51.140 --> 01:18:53.140 Go to Galatians 6. The first one, the Bible says, 01:18:53.140 --> 01:18:58.140 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, 01:18:58.140 --> 01:19:03.140 Restore such a one in the spirit of meekness, considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted, 01:19:03.140 --> 01:19:10.140 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 01:19:10.140 --> 01:19:16.140 For a man thinks himself to be sinful. 01:19:16.140 --> 01:19:22.140 Another reason these sins are so bad is because they puff you up. Right? 01:19:22.140 --> 01:19:26.140 I mean, the world promotes this thing, especially in this double standard world, 01:19:26.140 --> 01:19:31.140 Where a man who fornicates is a man's man. 01:19:31.140 --> 01:19:34.140 But the Bible says there's nothing manly about that. 01:19:34.140 --> 01:19:36.140 There's nothing cool about that. 01:19:36.140 --> 01:19:40.140 Nowadays, they're trying to make it to where the women are like that, too. 01:19:40.140 --> 01:19:47.140 I don't believe it.
