out there and believes he's been going for six years. 13:54.440 --> 14:01.960 And then God just blessed First Works Baptist Church and pastor with just even more on this 14:01.960 --> 14:04.520 trip by getting us into the schools. 14:04.520 --> 14:09.000 And so we go to a school, 190 or so kids. 14:09.000 --> 14:11.960 And I think we recorded one hundred and eight salvations. 14:12.680 --> Brother Marcel presented the gospel. 14:25.640 --> 14:31.080 They didn't like how we had talked about eternal security and proving it's eternal 14:31.080 --> 14:33.720 by using the illustration of suicide. 14:33.720 --> 14:38.440 But oh, that's just way too taboo to be talking to kids about stuff like that. 14:39.000 --> 14:47.400 So apparently a coalition of false prophets, false teacher going to be talking about covetousness if you notice some of these sins are worse than others but some of these are easier for us to fall into than others as well right and covetousness is one of those sins that actually starts out you know probably as a child. 27:49.480 --> 28:04.440 And so the children in here or anybody even the teenagers this applies to everybody I mean the Bible always applies to everybody but there are times where we're touching on subjects that you know it's not until you've lived it or you've come into it that you understand those things. 28:04.440 --> 28:34.360 But this is one of those things where everybody at any age can understand it because at some point in our life we have felt like we were owed something or we needed something that wasn't ours that we felt like it was owed to us right it's called the entitlement as a matter of fact America struggles with the sin of covetousness because it's an entitlement that doesn't belong to you and what it does this like slippery slope but let's go in there and look and the Bible says there in verse 3 of first Corinthians 5 the very first thing I want to point out is it says for I barely as absent in the Judas. And what ends up happening to 30:54.640 --> 30:59.320 Judas? He ends up dying right? He hangs himself so he took it unworthily of 30:59.320 --> 31:05.240 course he was already a son of perdition but in addition to that he 31:05.240 --> 31:09.840 didn't follow the rules and because of that you know it caused him you know to 31:09.840 --> 31:17.880 be to basically cease to exist. Let me just make that very clear because there's a group 31:21.040 --> 31:23.800 of people that don't believe that. This is the command for church discipline. The reason this 31:34.080 --> 31:39.820 is so important is because you know as the church or as an individual even as 31:39.820 --> 31:43.500 a pastor I can't just be arbitrary about what I like and dislike about 31:43.500 --> 31:47.420 people and I can't just like go around you know shutting people out of my life 31:47.420 --> 31:51.460 just because you know they rubbed me the wrong way or vice versa. These are the 31:51.460 --> 31:55.340 sins that cause us to stop having fellowship. So what I'm trying to say 31:55.340 --> 31:59.060 here first of all is if there's something that you've got an issue with 31:59.060 --> 32:04.340 a brother or they rub you the wrong way figure it out because it's it's biblical 32:04.340 --> 32:07.740 you know you have no foot to stand on. God said you better love your brother 32:07.740 --> 32:12.980 you're like I don't like the way that he does these things. Tough cookies I don't 32:12.980 --> 32:16.700 know what to tell you. You know so the very first thing here we notice is that 32:16.700 --> 32:23.700 covetousness is in the same list as what fornication and drunkenness which are 32:23.700 --> 32:26.860 probably some of the more common sins that we see here what in our country 32:26.860 --> 32:31.300 right now. Fornication is rampant, drunkenness is rampant, and you know what 32:31.300 --> 32:35.940 also is rampant? Covetousness right. I mean you could almost make the case that 32:36.420 --> 32:40.700 our president, our illustrious president, is a little covetous of all the oil and 32:40.700 --> 32:43.980 money that's out there in the world. He feels like it belongs to him and his 32:43.980 --> 32:49.180 family right. And if you notice God doesn't downgrade this sin but you know 32:49.180 --> 32:54.340 what we do see is a lot of churches, a lot of pastors, they just play this off. 32:54.340 --> 32:57.460 They don't deal with it. As a matter of fact most churches probably don't even 32:57.460 --> 33:02.100 implement church discipline and if they do it's because it became so egregious 33:02.100 --> 33:05.900 they were left no choice. It's not like they took it on themselves they just 33:05.900 --> 33:09.740 had to deal with it. But you don't have to turn there really quick. Go over to 33:09.740 --> 33:13.300 Luke 12. Go over to Luke 12. I got a lot of scripture for you today so I'll give 33:13.300 --> 33:16.660 you the ones that I'll try to have you keep up with. But in 1st Corinthians 5 33:16.660 --> 33:21.940 or 6 the Bible says, your glory is not good, know ye not that a little leaven 33:21.940 --> 33:27.700 leaveneth the whole up. This is a really important reminder that we 33:27.700 --> 33:31.660 need to keep this top of mind. And you say man it feels like lately maybe I 33:31.660 --> 33:35.020 might be repetitive. Of course the Bible is really repetitive. As a matter of 33:35.020 --> 33:39.220 fact I keep trying to find like nuanced ways to preach. I'm trying to get through 33:39.220 --> 33:42.660 the book of Leviticus with you guys. We're not even going chapter by chapter and 33:42.660 --> 33:45.860 you know but at the end of the day it's just repetitive because that's the way 33:45.860 --> 33:49.580 the Lord wants us to learn. And you know why? Because as humans we're stubborn. 33:49.580 --> 33:52.740 You know everybody that has a child in here and there's a lot of children here 33:52.740 --> 33:57.660 what's the one common theme of parents dealing with their children? Repetition. 33:57.660 --> 34:04.660 Right? Don't do that. Don't do that. Stop it. Stop it. Don't do it. Why did you do 34:04.660 --> 34:09.220 that? Why? Don't you know who feels like you sound like a broken record just 34:09.220 --> 34:13.860 about every day? Right? At least I know I do. Romans 16 verse 17 the Bible says, 34:13.860 --> 34:18.620 now I beseech you brethren mark them which cost divisions and offenses 34:18.620 --> 34:24.820 contrary to the doctrine which you have learned and avoid them. So it's not just 34:24.820 --> 34:28.340 that we're calling it out but then we also avoid it right? And then 2nd 34:28.340 --> 34:31.420 Thessalonians 3 verse 6 is a way of introduction here it says, now we 34:31.420 --> 34:34.540 command you brethren in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that ye withdraw 34:34.540 --> 34:39.820 yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly and not after the 34:39.820 --> 34:44.740 tradition which he received of us. And notice the tradition is the biblical 34:44.740 --> 34:48.500 tradition right? Now there's things that we do here in church that might or might 34:48.500 --> 34:53.340 not fit everybody's else agenda but the one thing we can all agree is that we 34:53.340 --> 34:57.180 have to stick to what the Bible says and if they don't the Bible says hey you 34:57.180 --> 35:02.180 want to you want to stay as far away from those people as possible. Right? So 35:02.180 --> 35:04.380 what does it mean to covet? Well I'm going to give you the biblical definition 35:04.380 --> 35:09.900 but before that let me just the the worldly definition lines up right? And 35:09.900 --> 35:15.180 the word covet just means to desire wrongfully, inordinately, or without due 35:15.180 --> 35:20.500 regard for the rights of others. To wish for especially eagerly. So it's not just 35:20.500 --> 35:25.660 like we all want things but it's you want what you can't have and what others 35:25.660 --> 35:31.340 have. And the most the best example the most agree like the most like I guess 35:31.340 --> 35:35.820 red flag example is when you covet somebody else's wife right? Because 35:35.820 --> 35:40.980 obviously she's married to another man it's for life you can't have that right? 35:40.980 --> 35:45.640 It's over like you can't be like you know people love this term right? The one 35:45.640 --> 35:51.420 that got away she got away it's over right? You can't have it move on but if 35:51.420 --> 35:54.620 you still have that like desire in your heart or you're you're thinking about it 35:54.620 --> 35:59.420 that's covetousness and the Bible says it's a sin not only is it a sin it's a 35:59.420 --> 36:03.380 penalty is that you get church discipline you get kicked out and you 36:03.380 --> 36:07.460 lose all your friends in the in the church right? Covetousness is basically 36:07.460 --> 36:11.860 the same thing but it's more of an adjective inordinately or wrong wrongly 36:11.860 --> 36:16.620 desirous of wealth or possession you're greedy synonyms of this word is like 36:16.620 --> 36:22.660 rapacious or grasping eagerly desirous so it's not it's when you it's not just 36:22.660 --> 36:26.060 that you want things it's like you want everything everybody else has right? We 36:26.220 --> 36:30.020 have good examples in the Bible and I have other ones but the one that I can 36:30.020 --> 36:34.340 think of also is like Ahab he throws a fit because he can't have the the land 36:34.340 --> 36:39.980 that's right next to his kingdom the guy owns the kingdom he's the king and he's 36:39.980 --> 36:44.980 mad about this one plot of land this guy won't give him right? Point number two so 36:44.980 --> 36:47.540 the first thing is we know this is a command for church discipline point 36:47.540 --> 36:52.260 number two go to Luke 2 12 right there number 15 now I gave you the world 36:52.260 --> 36:55.540 definition like you can go to dictionary.com you're gonna find this in 36:55.540 --> 37:00.620 most dictionaries but what does the Bible say about covetousness? What is 37:00.620 --> 37:04.900 covetousness? Well the biblical definition here in Luke 12 15 the Bible 37:04.900 --> 37:10.940 says and he said unto them take heed and beware of covetousness for a man's life 37:10.940 --> 37:15.820 consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth so it's like 37:15.820 --> 37:20.700 when you can't get enough right? Where you're where you're trying to just get 37:20.700 --> 37:24.140 treasures on earth and you're just trying to get more and more and more you 37:24.140 --> 37:28.060 know I've been in the business world all my life and now even with social media 37:28.060 --> 37:31.580 you know your algorithm it's weird my algorithm some days it's like all 37:31.580 --> 37:34.620 preaching and then other days it's all like how do you make money? How do you 37:34.620 --> 37:38.660 become a millionaire today? You know so it's I think the algorithm knows to 37:38.660 --> 37:41.660 split it up for me or whatever some I feel like some days it's it's geared 37:41.660 --> 37:45.500 one more than another and the one thing you notice is like I was watching these 37:45.500 --> 37:49.100 clips there's this guy by the name of Alex Hormozi who's like a hundred 37:49.100 --> 37:52.500 millionaire or whatever and he goes around coaching other businesses and I 37:52.500 --> 37:55.460 thought it was crazy these guys get up there and they're asking him questions 37:55.460 --> 38:00.540 on how to improve their business right and they're like hey Alex we made seven 38:00.540 --> 38:04.660 million dollars last year and we're trying to 10x that what do I need to do 38:04.660 --> 38:08.620 to do I'm like dude seven million dollars if you only paid yourself ten 38:08.620 --> 38:12.660 percent that's seven hundred fifty thousand dollars a year like most of 38:12.660 --> 38:16.300 you if I said hey your salary is gonna be seven hundred fifty thousand dollars 38:16.300 --> 38:20.220 you're like great where do I sign right and these people are like that's not 38:20.220 --> 38:24.100 enough right you got guys that are like oh we make you know ten million dollars 38:24.100 --> 38:28.060 a month and we just want to get to a hundred million a year how do I do it 38:28.060 --> 38:33.140 and it's just around in a private jet he probably wants another private jet 39:10.940 --> 39:14.300 you know he fly he has all these homes he probably wants more homes he literally 39:14.300 --> 39:18.980 has a company named acquisition.com which means that all he's doing is 39:18.980 --> 39:25.740 acquiring more businesses it's like a never-ending cycle of greediness right 39:25.740 --> 39:31.100 Colossians 3 verse 5 if you want to turn there for the sake of time but if not 39:31.100 --> 39:34.620 I'll read it for you Bible says mortify therefore your 39:34.620 --> 39:40.260 members which are upon the earth fornication uncleanness inordinate 39:40.260 --> 39:46.380 affection evil concupiscence and covetousness which is idolatry which is 39:46.380 --> 39:50.340 interesting because in that list idolatry is one of the sins but you know 39:50.340 --> 39:54.740 what covetousness is also a form of idolatry right because what you're doing 39:54.740 --> 39:59.660 is you're worshiping the thing that you want and you can't have right let's go 39:59.660 --> 40:04.180 to a really clear story here in Exodus 20 turn to Exodus 20 we're gonna be there 40:04.180 --> 40:12.260 for just a little bit in Exodus 20 right there in verse 17 I think it's verse 19 40:12.260 --> 40:19.660 yeah verse 19 right God defines it here really clearly what covetousness is you 40:19.660 --> 40:25.220 know obviously it's idolatry but also we see here that in the ministry of God God 40:25.220 --> 40:28.580 cannot deal with this right even from the Old Testament so this is not just 40:28.580 --> 40:32.140 the New Testament thing this is just a Jesus is the same yesterday today and 40:32.620 --> 40:37.900 in Exodus 20 right there in verse 19 what's going on here Moses is now judging 40:37.900 --> 40:43.260 the people and because he's judging the people he's taking it all on I like the 40:43.260 --> 40:47.620 story because I can relate because when we were much smaller and I mean I'm not 40:47.620 --> 40:51.420 even in comparison Moses is dealing with the people of Israel and the Bible says 40:51.420 --> 40:56.660 they were you know it's like the sand so but at one point you know was handling 40:56.660 --> 41:02.060 all the bulletins and the audio and visual and cleaning the church and 41:02.060 --> 41:06.420 writing the servants and you know doing all that and then you know it just gets 41:06.420 --> 41:10.020 to be a little and Jethro comes here and he's like Moses stop doing all that like 41:10.020 --> 41:13.540 you're cleaning the toilets and you're fixing the things and you're doing this 41:13.540 --> 41:17.300 it's gonna wear you out and so he says here in verse 19 says hearken now unto 41:17.300 --> 41:19.980 my voice this is Jethro his father-in-law he says I will give thee 41:19.980 --> 41:25.420 counsel and God shall be with thee be thou for the people to Godward that thou 41:25.420 --> 41:29.620 mayst bring the causes unto God and thou shall teach them ordinances and 41:29.620 --> 41:34.780 laws and shall show them the way wherein they must walk and work that they must 41:34.780 --> 41:40.820 do moreover thou shall provide out of all the people able focus on in verse 25 we see that word able right and it's not 43:13.940 --> 43:17.140 talking about able like you know they're able to walk and talk and all this he's 43:17.260 --> 43:22.300 given the definition he says moreover thou shall provide out of all the people 43:22.300 --> 43:26.700 able men and what did he say this is the definition of what he means by that such 43:26.700 --> 43:33.300 as fear God men of truth hating covetousness not just they're displeased 43:33.300 --> 43:38.300 with it they're uncomfortable they hate it and place such over them to be rulers 43:38.300 --> 43:42.660 right and why is this important because covetousness is that kind of thing where 43:42.660 --> 43:47.300 you will compromise the Bible when it talks about don't be a respecter of 43:47.300 --> 43:50.740 persons it doesn't mean to be disrespectful actually you should risk 43:50.740 --> 43:54.140 like children you need to respect your parents it's talking about how you 43:54.140 --> 43:58.420 shouldn't manipulate those that are in authority and then you guys you know you 43:58.420 --> 44:01.900 basically you scratch my back and I'll scratch you and everything else I'll 44:01.900 --> 44:06.060 turn a blind eye you know it's kind of like remember Bill Clinton everybody's 44:06.060 --> 44:09.820 like well what he does in his personal life doesn't affect what he's doing for 44:09.820 --> 44:13.900 the country that's a respecter of person that's a covetous attitude because what 44:13.900 --> 44:18.300 he was doing is he's basically buying everybody off right I mean Mexico is 44:18.300 --> 44:22.780 infamous for that it's such a corrupt country even foreigners know that they 44:22.780 --> 44:26.100 need to just carry cash with them so that if ever get stopped they just give 44:26.100 --> 44:29.940 them what's called a more diva you know a little bite right you just give them a 44:29.940 --> 44:34.380 more diva I mean this is a very common thing like people carry more diva money 44:34.380 --> 44:39.300 like you know hey how can we take care of this matter cop you know I know I 44:39.340 --> 44:44.780 broke the law but what do we got to do here you know and
