anyways let's get into the message here and we're there in Amos 5 and the title of 03:47.720 --> 03:53.720 the sermon this afternoon is Stop Loving What God Hates. 03:53.720 --> 03:59.440 Stop loving what God hates and we're there in verse 6 and I've got a little bit of an 03:59.440 --> 04:02.600 intro and then we're just going to get into the points but right there in verse 6 we 04:02.600 --> 04:04.400 see a couple of things that are contrasted. 04:04.400 --> 04:09.160 Verse 6 says, seek the Lord and ye shall live, lest ye break out like a fire in the house 04:09.160 --> 04:14.280 of Joseph and devour it and there be none to quench it in Bethel. 04:14.280 --> 04:20.120 Ye who turn judgment to warm wood and leave off righteousness in the earth, seek him that 04:20.120 --> 04:25.160 maketh the seven stars and Orion and turneth the shadow of death into morning and make 04:25.160 --> 04:31.640 it the day dark with night that calleth for the waters of the sea and poureth them out 04:31.640 --> 04:33.040 upon the face of the earth. 04:33.040 --> 04:38.560 The Lord is his name that strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong so that the spoiled 04:38.560 --> 04:40.840 shall come against the fortress. 04:40.840 --> 04:47.040 They hate him that rebuketh in the gate and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly. 04:47.040 --> 04:50.520 So we see first of all someone has hated for being righteous right? 04:50.520 --> 04:55.640 And then let's go there verse 14 says, seek good and not evil that ye may live and so 04:55.640 --> 05:00.080 the Lord the God of hosts shall be with you as ye have spoken. 05:00.080 --> 05:04.120 Hate the evil, love the good and establish judgment in the gate. 05:04.120 --> 05:08.640 It may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph. 05:08.640 --> 05:14.680 Therefore the Lord the God of hosts the Lord saith thus, Wailing shall be in the streets 05:14.680 --> 05:17.760 and they shall say in all the highways, 06:16.400 listening to the Lord and doing the things that the Lord asked he's going to hate those 06:16.400 --> 06:17.640 things right? 06:17.640 --> 06:22.560 But just real quick because Amos is not something that's preached out very often. 06:22.560 --> 06:27.560 So just to give you a little bit of context Amos is taking place during the time of Jeroboam 06:27.560 --> 06:31.720 the second Jeroboam you know these names get like, who's ever read through the Old Testament 06:31.720 --> 06:35.280 and you're just like is that the same guy or who is this you know who's done that? 06:35.280 --> 06:41.440 Okay this is Jeroboam the two of Israel and Uzziah king of Judah and the prophets that 06:41.440 --> 06:47.800 are alive during this time also are like Hosea, Isaiah in his early ministry and Jonah and 06:47.800 --> 06:52.760 he was a herdsman actually he's not a prophet he's asked to go prophesy and we see that 06:52.760 --> 06:58.520 actually in Amos 8 so turn your Bibles there to Amos 8 and basically what he's asked to 06:58.520 --> 07:04.120 do is he judged them because they were basically empty and wicked you know the judgment on 07:04.120 --> 07:09.200 them is because they're just you know they've got a lot it's kind of like the US right? 07:09.200 --> 07:13.660 We have a lot of the comforts and we have a lot of opulence and wealth and you know the 07:13.660 --> 07:19.320 things are they come easy to us but spiritually we're just desolate as a nation right? 07:19.320 --> 07:25.000 And he's chosen there go to chapter 8 and right there in verse let me find it here this 07:25.000 --> 07:34.240 is my wife's Bible so sometimes I and it says in verse 11 wait hold on a second I think it's 07:34.240 --> 07:41.240 in verse 7 where he says oh yeah in verse 7 of chapter 7 verse 14 he says then answered Amos 07:41.240 --> 07:45.840 and said to Amaziah because Amaziah is actually telling him like you need to stop talking like 07:45.840 --> 07:51.040 this and he says I was no prophet neither was a prophet's son but I was a herdman and gatherer 07:51.040 --> 07:56.200 of sycamore fruit right and the Lord took me as I followed the flock and the Lord said unto me go 07:56.200 --> 08:01.640 prophesy unto my people Israel so the prophecy because the Lord think about it how sad is that 08:01.640 --> 08:06.480 the prophets are failing so he just picks a guy who's actually faithful to the Lord a herdsman 08:06.480 --> 08:11.400 and says hey you need to go do this job and even the man of God supposedly Amaziah here he's like 08:11.400 --> 08:14.880 you know I don't really like this I don't like what you're saying but one thing that really stood 08:14.880 --> 08:19.760 out because I was reading through this is I before I came here go to verse 11 of chapter 8 that's 08:19.760 --> 08:23.840 where I wanted you guys to go and then we'll get into the message that says there in verse 11 says 08:23.840 --> 08:30.080 behold the days come saith the Lord God that I will send a famine in the land and pay attention 08:30.080 --> 08:37.460 says not a famine of bread nor a thirst of water but of hearing the words of the Lord and they shall 08:37.460 --> 08:43.000 wander from sea to sea and from north and from the north even to the east they shall run to and fro 08:43.000 --> 08:48.720 to seek the word of the Lord and shall not find it in that day show the fair virgins and young men 08:48.720 --> 08:54.760 faint for thirst that's talking about the thirst of the word of God it says they that's where by the 08:54.760 --> get a word out to the entire world the entire nation right you know the 09:59.680 --> 10:04.600 way that I look at it is I know that we're not going to stop the end times right and obviously we 10:04.600 --> 10:09.960 talk about how cool it would be to you know maybe get the crown of life for martyrdom and stuff like 10:09.960 --> 10:14.840 that but I'm gonna be honest with you if I don't have to die I'd rather just die of natural causes you 10:14.840 --> 10:19.040 know I think Paul it's rumored that he might have died of natural causes right some there's an 10:19.040 --> 10:25.960 argument going on out there but I think about Josiah he was a young king and the Lord held off 10:25.960 --> 10:30.680 the judgment of Manasseh to the people because Josiah did such a good job and I just keep thinking 10:30.680 --> 10:36.160 how many generations of Josiah's could we have before the end comes unfortunately there will 10:36.160 --> 10:42.720 come a time where a generation will have to face that hard you know tribulation and that hard 10:42.720 --> 10:48.520 persecution but you know if we can avoid that for some time then let's do it and if not then two 10:48.520 --> 10:54.320 things are we need to accomplish number one we need to preach hard just in case the Lord stays off 10:54.320 --> 10:59.160 that judgment but number two if he doesn't we're ready for it right so either way we're still 10:59.160 --> 11:03.360 winning because we're ready for the battle but if the battle doesn't come to us with that judgment 11:03.360 --> 11:07.160 then you know at least we know we did something right you know that's the way that I look at it and 11:07.160 --> 11:12.440 the doctrine of hate or you know hating those things that God hates is a really important doctrine 11:12.440 --> 11:17.600 right the world especially America has done a great job of trying to convince you that hate is a bad 11:17.600 --> 11:24.600 word right and every word can be a bad word if it's used in the wrong context but biblically hate is a 11:24.600 --> 11:30.800 righteous word and has its place and its time in life right what is doctrine right doctrine is just 11:30.800 --> 11:36.920 what we teach it's a particular principle or position or policy that is taught or advocated in 11:36.920 --> 11:42.680 religion in religion or government right it's it's something that we teach or a body of system of 11:42.680 --> 11:48.080 teaching so no matter where you go somewhere somehow you're always being indoctrinated you know 11:48.080 --> 11:52.400 we're talking about Red Bull and the indoctrination of Red Bull and all the marketing that you've done 11:52.400 --> 11:56.560 behind it right and the reason we're talking about so much is because in case you didn't know when I 11:56.560 --> 12:01.800 --> 12:48.800 to dislike intensely or passionately right to feel extreme aversion for an or an extreme 12:48.800 --> 12:57.880 hostility towards towards something to detest right to be like to dislike or be unwilling to feel 12:57.880 --> 13:04.000 an intense dislike or extreme aversion hostility if you notice I'm giving you other definitions 13:04.000 --> 13:09.240 but they're basically the same right intense dislike extreme aversion or hostility the object 13:09.240 --> 13:13.880 of extreme aversion or hostility right you're nothing related to the acts that are motivated 13:13.880 --> 13:20.080 by hatred so basically hate is what an aversion you don't like something it's it's kind of gross you want 13:20.080 --> 13:26.760 to stay away from it and God hates a lot of things that means he has an extreme aversion or what 13:26.760 --> 13:33.120 hostility towards certain things the Bible tells us and people say well I thought God was a loving 13:33.120 --> 13:39.080 God that's why he hates certain things you know and I like the God of the Bible because God is 13:39.840 --> 13:44.680 merciful and he's gracious and his mercy endureth forever but I also like when you get to Revelation 13:44.680 --> 13:50.880 and Jesus comes down with a sword out of his mouth and his eyes are aflame and he's taken out all the 13:50.880 --> 13:55.280 people that wronged not only us but the future Christians and the past Christians and those that 13:55.280 --> 14:00.200 serve the Lord faithfully right I mean at least I know I can sleep well at night that no matter how 14:00.200 --> 14:05.640 people treat me the Lord's gonna avenge me right and then actually it's great if you come to terms 14:05.640 --> 14:09.280 with that that the Lord's gonna avenge you because it's so much better than whatever you could come 14:09.280 --> 14:15.600 up with anyways right I mean you think about it they're gonna burn in hell for all eternity the 14:15.600 --> 14:22.000 guy Luke 16 the rich man and Luke 16 is still burning in hell today right he's still saying hey 14:22.000 --> 14:26.520 if somebody could dip you know their their finger in water and quench my thirst it's not gonna 14:26.520 --> 14:33.580 quench anything it's just so extreme and he's doing it right now we were preaching this message he is in 14:33.580 --> 14:40.460 hell suffering the pangs of eternal punishment forever right so this is a serious thing we need 14:40.460 --> 14:46.140 to learn to hate and you know just like love hate is also a choice right you know I remember growing 14:46.140 --> 14:50.940 up I've never liked queers I'm never like sodomites you know or the gays as we used to call them right 14:50.940 --> 14:56.100 the gays I don't know whatever I don't know that was horrible but they had
