Now throughout the book of Proverbs 03:20.920 --> 03:27.320 we're actually given a lot of clear insight to various types of people that we can become and 03:27.320 --> 03:33.560 people that we can encounter in life as well these distinctions are not merely for observation 03:33.560 --> 03:39.720 God obviously wants us to apply it to ourselves to avoid being certain people and to strive to be 03:39.720 --> 03:45.160 like others okay and when you look at it we see that the Bible actually provides three primary 03:45.160 --> 03:51.000 categories the first one being the wise men right this is probably the most famous one in the book 03:51.000 --> 03:56.680 of Proverbs the wise man is one who knows what the word of God says and does it you know they 03:56.680 --> 04:04.920 hear the preaching of God's word they read their Bible on a daily basis and once they adhere to 04:04.920 --> 04:10.360 knowledge they actually put it into practice in their personal lives this is a wise individual 04:10.360 --> 04:16.440 they hear what the word of God says and they are a doer of the word as well and so and by the way 04:16.440 --> 04:22.280 the root of wisdom of course is fearing the Lord right it is the beginning of wisdom the second 04:22.280 --> 04:29.560 category that we see in the Bible is the simple and the simple person is one who simply lacks 04:29.560 --> 04:34.040 understanding another word for simple believe it or not is just stupid believe it or not you know 04:34.040 --> 04:40.040 we think of stupid as like man that's such a harsh insult but really it just means someone who is 04:40.040 --> 04:47.880 void of understanding someone who does not possess the necessary knowledge or wisdom 04:47.880 --> 04:53.160 to make certain decisions and unfortunately you know the simple is not necessarily that they're 04:53.160 --> 04:59.320 wicked they're not evil they're just simple but because they're simple they end up suffering the 04:59.320 --> 05:04.280 consequences that the fool would often suffer because of their rebellion so the Bible tells us 05:04.920 --> 05:10.360 that the simple are passed on and are punished why because of the fact that they don't possess 05:10.360 --> 05:15.640 knowledge they don't possess prudence or understanding and so the simple does not possess 05:15.640 --> 05:22.280 the knowledge or prudence necessary to make sound decisions this individual is not necessarily wicked 05:22.280 --> 05:27.960 malicious or rebellious they're just vulnerable to making bad decisions right let me just be 05:27.960 --> 05:34.600 honest with you all of us once we first get saved we start off simple okay why because we don't come 05:34.600 --> 05:40.280 into the Christian life already having accumulated spiritual knowledge and wisdom and prudence 05:40.280 --> 05:45.480 that's something that is gained over time you go to church you hear preaching you read the word of 05:45.480 --> 05:53.160 God you hang around wise people and you accumulate knowledge and wisdom and Lord willing you graduate 05:53.160 --> 06:00.040 from being a simpleton to being a wise individual right that is the goal for all of us is to leave 06:00.040 --> 06:07.320 simplicity and graduate to being a wise person but a simple person lacks discernment he suffers the 06:07.320 --> 06:13.240 consequences of his poor actions and the danger of being a simple person is not necessarily 06:13.240 --> 06:21.080 outright rebellion but it's actually remaining in ignorance so again we all start simple but if you 06:21.080 --> 06:26.520 don't learn from your mistakes if you don't apply the preaching of God's word if you don't learn from 06:26.520 --> 06:34.040 the consequences of your actions you actually are in danger of becoming a fool so you can either 06:34.040 --> 06:40.120 graduate to being a wise person or you can regress to becoming a foolish individual so the first 06:40.120 --> 06:45.560 category is the wise man the second category is the simple and then the third category is the fool 06:45.640 --> 06:52.360 this is the person that knows what the Bible says he understands cause and effect he knows 06:52.360 --> 06:57.160 biblical doctrines he knows what he's supposed to do to avoid the consequences of his actions 06:57.800 --> 07:04.280 yet he refuses to change you know what kind of person would do that a fool right or it's just 07:04.280 --> 07:08.440 like didn't you learn from your mistakes don't you know you're going to damage yourself by 07:08.440 --> 07:14.440 participating in this particular action by saying this particular word by hanging around with these 07:14.440 --> 07:19.000 kind of people and they're just kind of foolish it's not that they don't know they obviously 07:19.000 --> 07:24.600 understand and look folks we've all met someone who is a very foolish person right and it's just 07:24.600 --> 07:31.160 like bro why do you keep doing this why do you keep you know smoking marijuana why do you keep 07:31.160 --> 07:35.560 drinking why do you keep going back to the whore why do you keep doing this and it's just i don't 07:35.560 --> 07:41.320 know i just can't control no you're a fool because you know the cause and effect yet you refuse to 07:41.320 --> 07:47.880 change according to the biblical standard you are a fool and a fool is far more dangerous obviously 07:47.880 --> 07:55.320 than the person who is simple why is that well because over time the rejection of truth produces 07:55.320 --> 08:03.800 wickedness rebellion and even corruption and so you know many fools begin as simpletons but because 08:03.880 --> 08:12.600 they refuse correction refuse to learn refuse to repent they descend into a hardened foolish person 08:12.600 --> 08:19.000 and we want to avoid that you know part of being a wise person is being humble being able to be 08:19.000 --> 08:24.520 corrected when we are wrong doctrinally we are wrong in our conduct maybe we're involved in a 08:24.520 --> 08:29.880 particular sin and you know i get up and preach about it or you read about in the bible so a brother 08:29.880 --> 08:35.240 or sister admonish you in the faith and to correct you in that area if you are a wise person you 08:35.240 --> 08:40.440 would take that correction and not say well i know more than this person that doesn't apply to me 08:40.440 --> 08:45.480 well you're sounding like a fool at that point because you're refusing to get that right you're 08:45.480 --> 08:50.840 refusing to be humble and therefore you will suffer the consequences of your actions as christians we 08:50.840 --> 08:58.520 must refuse to remain simple and guard ourselves from becoming fools and again we all begin simple 08:59.000 --> 09:03.800 none are born with biblical wisdom but the bible tells us that wisdom is the principal thing 09:04.520 --> 09:11.160 therefore get wisdom our goal should be that when we come to church we learn wisdom either by the 09:11.160 --> 09:17.480 preaching of god's word or just by fellowshipping with other wise individuals and look if you want 09:17.480 --> 09:23.240 to accelerate your accumulation of wisdom aside from just reading the bible and hearing preaching 09:23.320 --> 09:29.320 just hang around wise people make sure your friends are wise make sure they're not 09:29.320 --> 09:37.000 foolish individuals right giving bad advice bad counsel bad admonishments make sure that they are 09:37.000 --> 09:42.280 centered in god's word that they have the bible as their centerpiece that they're actually giving 09:42.280 --> 09:47.560 biblical counsel and things that can be seen in the word of god and you know you'll become a 09:47.560 --> 09:52.120 wise individual if you want to accelerate your growth in wisdom just make sure you hang around 09:52.120 --> 09:58.200 other wise people and so we're to grow from simplicity into wisdom and never regress into 09:58.200 --> 10:03.400 foolishness now with that being said i want to go through proverbs chapter 26 here and the first 10:03.400 --> 10:11.400 12 verses of proverbs 26 deals with the fool and it gives us just a lot of good advice and things 10:11.400 --> 10:15.960 that we should avoid and things that we're to look for in others in order to avoid the fool look at 10:15.960 --> 10:24.840 verse number one it says here as snow and summer and as rain and harvest so honor is not seemly 10:24.840 --> 10:31.400 for a fool so what is the same well the basic principle that the the uh that solomon is laying 10:31.400 --> 10:39.880 out here is that honor and fools are mutually exclusive meaning they don't go together just 10:39.880 --> 10:44.280 like you don't see snow in the summer and you're not supposed to see rain in the harvest well in 10:44.280 --> 10:50.600 like manner a fool should never be respected or honored what does it mean to be honored it means 10:50.600 --> 10:58.120 to have high respect uh to be someone of worth or someone who merits your respect and your reverence 10:58.120 --> 11:04.600 this is what it means to honor someone right and so and let me just make it very clear that this 11:04.600 --> 11:10.760 obviously does not apply in marriage okay meaning that you know a wife can't look at her husband 11:10.760 --> 11:18.600 and be like well he's a fool so i'm not going to honor him but let me let me riddle me this though 11:19.880 --> 11:24.600 okay who's more of a fool the one you married or the one who decided to marry a fool 11:27.240 --> 11:34.280 gotcha okay and so you know it's important to understand that the principle applies but there's 11:34.280 --> 11:38.920 exceptions to the rule the exception would be obviously in marriage you got to honor your 11:38.920 --> 11:45.560 husband okay well he's not worth honoring well too bad the bible doesn't say honor him because 11:45.560 --> 11:50.520 he's worth honoring it says honor him because you should do it as unto the lord and guess what the 11:50.520 --> 11:56.360 lord is always worth honoring and so if your husband or should i say when your husband falls 11:56.360 --> 12:02.360 short when he makes bad decisions when he makes foolish decisions at that point you resort to 12:03.000 --> 12:11.240 because you want to honor the lord if not you are a foolish woman okay you're not a simpleton you are 12:11.240 --> 12:17.960 a foolish woman if you're not willing to honor your husband despite the fact that he falls short 12:17.960 --> 12:23.240 the point being here is that in general the bible is teaching us that foolish people should never be 12:23.240 --> 12:30.120 regarded or esteemed as being intelligent individuals people who are worth any wisdom or 12:30.120 --> 12:37.160 the people that you know this should be followed or honored or respected why because just like 12:37.160 --> 12:42.520 snow doesn't go with the summer rain doesn't go with harvest honor does not go with the fool in 12:42.520 --> 12:47.400 fact when you honor a fool it's actually more detrimental to them they become more prideful 12:47.400 --> 12:52.120 they become arrogant and they don't learn from their mistakes let me read you a couple verses 12:52.120 --> 12:57.960 here turn with you if you would to proverbs 15 hold your place here in proverbs 26 proverbs chapter 12:57.960 --> 13:06.680 3 verse 35 says the wise shall inherit glory but shame shall be the promotion of fools what is it 13:06.680 --> 13:13.000 saying the only promotion that a fool should get is not honor it's actually shame why because in 13:13.000 --> 13:16.920 order for people to change they need to be shamed of the things that they do in order for them to 13:16.920 --> 13:21.240 change but a fool because they've rejected the clear teachings of the scriptures because they 13:21.240 --> 13:27.640 rejected the clear commands of the bible they should be as far away from honor as possible 13:27.720 --> 13:32.040 because they will not repent they will not get right if you honor them they will actually become 13:32.040 --> 13:39.880 more emboldened to be a fool okay proverbs 15 verse 33 says the fear of the lord is the instruction 13:39.880 --> 13:45.960 of wisdom and before honor listen to this is humility so what is the bible saying you know one 13:45.960 --> 13:51.800 of the best ways for you to obtain honor is by being humble being humble before the lord being 13:51.880 --> 13:58.360 humble before others boast not you know let another man praise thee and not thine own lips 13:58.360 --> 14:03.560 making sure that you're not just boasting and bragging about your accomplishments how great you 14:03.560 --> 14:09.480 are what your talents are let other people honor you in that area right the fool on the other hand 14:09.480 --> 14:15.400 loves to brag about their accomplishments most of the time they're not even accomplishments they like 14:15.400 --> 14:21.320 to boast of a false gift they like to talk about how great they are when in actuality those around 14:21.320 --> 14:27.640 them know exactly who they are and how they lack humility and therefore are not honorable the bible 14:27.640 --> 14:32.920 is telling us here that if we want to receive respect and honor from others it starts off with 14:32.920 --> 14:38.200 humility it starts off with fearing god look at proverbs chapter 12 if you would proverbs chapter 14:38.200 --> 14:45.240 12 i'm going to read to you from proverbs 20 it says it is an honor for a man to cease from strife 14:46.200 --> 14:53.080 meaning that you know according to god's economy if you find yourself in an altercation with an 14:53.080 --> 14:57.960 individual who wants to fight you they want to get down with you they want to throw hands or 14:57.960 --> 15:03.960 something like that it's actually more honorable for you in god's eyes to cease from that strife 15:03.960 --> 15:10.200 it is a glory for you to pass over the transgression so in other words you know a wise person an 15:10.280 --> 15:17.800 honorable person actually likes to reduce conflict and walk away from fights and not make it worse 15:18.360 --> 15:23.080 now we can apply this just with some random dude who's out in the street but this also applies 15:23.080 --> 15:28.360 within the context of marriage it applies within the context of just friendships and relationships 15:28.360 --> 15:33.000 don't be the person who's just the instigator now i gotta be careful here because our church is 15:33.000 --> 15:40.680 filled with instigators okay and it see perfect example right there you know he just he just 15:40.680 --> 15:47.000 instigated adam right now okay you know we have a lot of instigation in our church but obviously i 15:47.000 --> 15:51.560 believe it's in good fun these are brothers and so they treat each other like brothers like really 15:51.560 --> 15:55.800 like brothers you know i mean the only the only thing they don't do as brothers is throw hands 15:56.360 --> 15:59.400 your rights but how about your biblical right to be an honorable person and to cease from strife 16:26.360 --> 16:34.600 you know it's just like oh you know what what right do you have you don't have in and the bible tells us here in proverbs 20 verse 3 it is an honor for 20:15.720 --> 20:22.680 a man to cease from strife but every fool will be meddling meaning that he just wants to he just 20:22.680 --> 20:28.280 wants to instigate he wants there to be conflict he wants there to be strife you know this is just a 20:28.280 --> 20:33.480 person who's just a foolish individual you know i thought as christians we are seeking for peace 20:34.360 --> 20:41.320 reconciliation peace and so forth that should be our objective as christians proverbs 12 verse 9 20:41.320 --> 20:48.920 says he that is despised and hath a servant is better than he that honored himself and lacketh 20:48.920 --> 20:54.840 bread i love this verse because it's saying like you know you may not like this guy but he's a boss 20:54.840 --> 21:01.240 and he has employees whereas this other guy he speaks so greatly of himself but bro lacks bread 21:02.040 --> 21:07.160 he's not making any bread he's not making any money right he doesn't know what he's talking 21:07.160 --> 21:12.200 about but this is exactly the disposition of a fool honors himself and this kind of like reminds 21:12.200 --> 21:17.800 me of people who dm me you know they're trying to educate me in the bible educate me about 21:17.800 --> 21:24.200 replacement theology and they know so much of the word of god but then you go on their profile 21:24.200 --> 21:28.680 and i'm not saying the followers playing a role in it but then why do you have pictures of you know 21:29.400 --> 21:34.920 drinking alcohol clubbing being all types of women but you're you're gonna you're gonna school me on 21:34.920 --> 21:41.160 bible doctrine you're trying to remove the the moat out of my eye which there is no moat because 21:41.160 --> 21:48.360 i'm right about the bible all the while you have this massive beam in your eye of lewdness and sin 21:49.160 --> 21:54.840 you're honoring yourself yet you lack bread okay you are a fool in the eyes of god but this is the 21:54.840 --> 22:02.040 character trait of a foolish individual go back to proverbs 26 if you would proverbs 26 22:03.400 --> 22:11.400 and so we see here that just as snow does
