chapter 1 02:04.940 --> 02:08.900 and if you remember the apostle paul is instructing titus 02:08.900 --> 02:12.300 on essentially setting things which are that need to be 02:12.300 --> 02:14.660 set in order to things that are wanting 02:14.740 --> 02:19.500 and also ordaining elders in every city part of ordaining the elders 02:19.500 --> 02:23.580 aside from the fact that he is laying out the qualifications of a pastor 02:23.580 --> 02:25.060 he's also explaining 02:25.060 --> 02:26.140 to titus 02:26.140 --> 02:29.460 that these elders need to be able to preach the word of god 02:29.460 --> 04:53.420 what they believe is concerned but when we look at the context of chapter two 04:53.420 --> 04:57.740 we see that sound in the faith or having sound doctrine 04:57.740 --> 05:01.340 is actually closely tied into their behavior right 05:01.420 --> 05:06.700 to their conduct to their conversation and so tides chapter two begins with him 05:06.700 --> 05:09.100 talking about you know preach the things which become 05:09.100 --> 05:12.540 sound doctrine and then he addresses four different groups 05:12.540 --> 05:17.660 he addresses the aged men the aged women and although it's not explicitly 05:17.660 --> 05:20.380 mentioned we can say the younger women as well 05:20.380 --> 05:24.540 and then the younger men you know obviously that would include 05:24.540 --> 05:29.020 the young people just in general and then of course the servants as well 05:29.020 --> 05:33.580 and he goes into just explaining how they should conduct themselves 05:33.580 --> 05:38.460 how they should have their conversation what their behavior should be like 05:38.460 --> 05:42.620 and it's obviously tied into chapter one of not allowing these 05:42.620 --> 05:45.900 false prophets to speak anything evil about them because 05:45.900 --> 05:49.340 they're christians these are believers and if they believe the right thing but 05:49.340 --> 05:52.780 they're living a certain way they can cause the word of god to be blasphemed 05:52.780 --> 05:56.460 and obviously the principle that we can learn here is that you know god wants us 05:56.460 --> 05:59.900 to believe the right things but good work so two things there is that god is saying hey 07:03.180 --> 07:06.060 i want you to behave the right way because if you're going to be a 07:06.060 --> 07:10.540 peculiar people unto me you know obviously you need to adopt 07:10.540 --> 07:13.020 these characteristics and attributes because this is obviously 07:13.020 --> 07:16.380 different from what the world proposes right 07:16.380 --> 07:19.500 living soberly righteously having good conduct 07:19.500 --> 07:23.820 is different from the behavior than the world promotes and he says here 07:23.820 --> 07:27.100 to be zealous of good works and when we think of 07:27.100 --> 07:31.180 good works in the bible we obviously associate it with preaching the gospel 07:31.180 --> 07:33.020 right like what are some of the good works do 07:33.020 --> 07:37.020 you do well i like to preach the gospel i like to get other people saved i like 07:37.020 --> 07:39.980 to go soul winning and these are definitely good works but 07:39.980 --> 07:44.140 in the context of the chapter the good works are what the behavior 07:44.140 --> 07:47.580 right so it's showing us here that we as 07:47.580 --> 07:51.740 christians yes we preach the gospel we go so winning in order to get people 07:51.740 --> 07:55.660 safe to do good works but good works are also tied into the way 07:55.660 --> 07:59.740 we act and the way that we behave as well okay and the bible says here that 07:59.740 --> 08:04.300 we need to be zealous of these things so just as zealous as you are for soul 08:04.300 --> 08:07.900 winning god wants you to be zealous and being submissive to your husband 08:07.900 --> 08:15.100 right in being a an honest employee right to be sober not to be a slanderer 08:15.100 --> 08:18.700 these are actually good works in the eyes of god so don't think to yourself 08:18.700 --> 08:21.820 well you know the only good works that i need to make sure that i'm doing 08:21.820 --> 08:26.220 is soul winning is preaching the gospel well it's a great chapter here and i 08:51.020 --> 08:55.340 love preaching from this chapter because of the fact that it addresses 08:55.340 --> 08:58.540 a lot of different types of behavior but it seems to spend a very 08:58.540 --> 09:03.660 significant amount of time on women and specifically you know obviously 09:03.660 --> 09:07.340 it's a good chapter to use to preach against feminism right 09:07.340 --> 09:10.380 because a lot of the behavior that god proposes here 09:10.380 --> 09:14.220 is contrary to the behavior of those who are feminists 09:14.220 --> 09:17.580 you think to yourself well are you talking about feminists the blue-haired 09:17.580 --> 09:22.140 you know liberal democratic feminists well obviously but the most common one 09:22.140 --> 09:24.780 that we're the 10:07.020 --> 10:11.020 and don't be offended if you're 30 it's just it is what it is 10:11.020 --> 10:15.100 the age of men he says they need to be sober grave and temperate 10:15.100 --> 10:18.620 and the one word that i want to focus on there is temperate right 10:18.620 --> 10:22.780 what does it mean to be temperate discipline those who have self-control we 10:22.780 --> 10:26.060 need to be grave and temperate sound in faith 10:33.340 --> 10:36.540 in charity and patience in other words you know the aged men 10:36.540 --> 10:40.780 should not be characterized by being you know having the emotions of a younger 10:40.780 --> 10:44.220 person having the disposition of a younger person 10:44.220 --> 10:47.340 not having the control of an age and man but rather 10:47.340 --> 10:51.340 having the the the recklessness of a younger individual 10:51.340 --> 10:55.100 meaning you're supposed to be mature not just in body but also in mind 10:55.100 --> 11:01.340 and in spirit as well right be grave be temperate be sound in faith and have 11:02.300 --> 11:06.060 in other words as age and men we should be characterized by love 11:06.060 --> 11:09.500 charity is just another
