Now on Wednesday night, we're going through the book of Ruth, and last week we 00:32:15.470 --> 00:32:22.630 talk about Ruth chapter number one. Basically the story was about how this guy, Elimelech, 00:32:22.630 --> 00:32:29.690 took his family to Moab, because there was a famine in Judah, and his two sons took two daughters 00:32:29.690 --> 00:32:40.420 of Moab to wife, and Elimelech and his two sons died in Moab, and Naomi, which is Elimelech's 00:32:40.420 --> 00:32:47.330 wife, and Ruth, which is Naomi's daughter-in-law, came back to Judah. Okay, so that's chapter number 00:32:47.330 --> 00:32:53.530 one, and today we'll be in chapter number two, and the title of the sermon tonight is "Stay in the 00:32:53.530 --> 00:32:59.900 Field." "Stay in the Field," and probably going to be a shorter sermon. So point number one tonight 00:32:59.900 --> 00:33:06.720 is a providential encounter, a providential encounter. Look at verse number one, Ruth chapter 00:33:06.720 --> 00:33:13.130 two, verse number one. The Bible says, "And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of 00:33:13.130 --> 00:33:19.710 wealth, of the family of Elimelech, and his name was Boaz." Now the word "kinsman" means a relative, 00:33:19.710 --> 00:33:28.140 someone who is near of king. And here we have this person, Boaz. Boaz is a kinsman to Elimelech, 00:33:28.140 --> 00:33:33.620 verse number two. "And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, 'Let me now go to the field 00:33:33.620 --> 00:33:40.350 and glean ears of corn after him, in whose sight I shall find grace.' And she said unto her, 00:33:40.350 --> 00:33:44.770 'Go my daughter.'" Now I wanted to pay attention to the attributes of Ruth. 00:33:44.770 --> 00:33:53.690 And we have all heard about Proverbs 31 and how that is a chapter of a virtuous woman. But do you 00:33:53.690 --> 00:33:59.330 know that Ruth was the only person in the Bible that was called the virtuous woman? Go to Ruth 00:33:59.330 --> 00:34:08.020 chapter three. Look at verse 11. The Bible says, "And now, my daughter, fear not. I will do to thee 00:34:08.020 --> 00:34:13.610 all that thou requirest for all the city of my people that know that thou art a virtuous woman." 00:34:13.610 --> 00:34:18.630 So Ruth was referred to as a virtuous woman. Obviously we have Proverbs 31. The whole chapter 00:34:18.630 --> 00:34:26.920 is talking about the virtuous woman. But Ruth was the woman that was given this title. Keep replacing 00:34:26.920 --> 00:34:39.850 Ruth, go forward to Proverbs 31. And my point is that Ruth is not lazy. Ruth did not sit around 00:34:39.850 --> 00:34:48.080 and wait for some miracles. Instead, she went to work. Because Ruth told Naomi, "Let me now go to 00:34:48.080 --> 00:34:57.670 the field and glean ears of corn." Ruth is a hard worker. Obviously we think it's ideal for women 00:34:57.670 --> 00:35:02.410 to stay home. But if they are widows or if they have real financial struggles, maybe their 00:35:02.410 --> 00:35:07.240 husbands left them or something like that, I don't think it's really wrong for them to work. But 00:35:07.240 --> 00:35:14.670 ideally they should be centered around the home, having their family, husbands, providing for them. 00:35:14.670 --> 00:35:23.970 But Proverbs 31, women is a hard worker. Look at Proverbs 31, verse number 13. The Bible says, 00:35:23.970 --> 00:35:30.350 "She seeketh wool and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchant's ships. 00:35:30.350 --> 00:35:35.440 She brings her food from afar. She rises also while it is at night, and giveth meat to her 00:35:35.440 --> 00:35:40.460 household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field and bithith. With the fruit 00:35:40.460 --> 00:35:44.770 of her hands she planteth a vineyard." Okay, obviously we can read more, but the point is, 00:35:45.410 --> 00:35:54.380 a virtuous woman is also a hard worker, right? In this chapter, she is making sure that her 00:35:54.380 --> 00:36:01.250 family is provided for. She's making clothes. She even plants things, providing things, 00:36:01.250 --> 00:36:08.320 buying a field. She's just trying to figure out ways to provide for her family. That's why I 00:36:08.320 --> 00:36:15.950 believe every single lady should be hard workers, okay? Even if you are blessed to stay home, 00:36:15.950 --> 00:36:22.660 don't just sit around and do nothing. Find some work to do. Find some things to do, especially if 00:36:22.660 --> 00:36:30.790 someone is not married and they still live at your parents' house. Stay at your parents' house. 00:36:30.790 --> 00:36:36.360 You know, they need to stay busy, right? Take some classes online. Learn how to cook. Learn how to do 00:36:36.360 --> 00:36:43.210 housework. Read books, right? Pick up a musical instrument because you need to saturate your life 00:36:43.210 --> 00:36:49.150 with quality things to do, right? You know, you can find a lot of things to do to plan your schedule 00:36:49.150 --> 00:36:55.600 out while at home, okay? And if you're married but don't have kids yet, you know, still find 00:36:55.600 --> 00:37:01.570 some things to do. Set a schedule when you are going to read your Bible, pray, read other books, 00:37:01.570 --> 00:37:08.020 right? Cook. Practice musical instrument. Research things to make your family better. Don't just be 00:37:08.020 --> 00:37:13.520 on your phones and scroll through Instagram real, okay? You know, find something productive. You know, 00:37:13.520 --> 00:37:19.590 if you feel like you are idle at home, just set a schedule. Hey, from, you know, eight to nine, 00:37:19.590 --> 00:37:25.240 read your Bible, pray, maybe practice an instrument for like an hour or two, research a subject, 00:37:25.240 --> 00:37:30.730 trying to learn something new every single day, every week, right? Saturate your schedule with 00:37:30.730 --> 00:37:36.400 quality things. Go back to Ruth chapter two. And if you are married and have kids, you know, 00:37:36.400 --> 00:37:42.610 you will be busy, okay? Now in that case, you know, learn to manage your time so you can get things 00:37:42.610 --> 00:37:47.220 down. Especially if you have three, four kids, you know, some of those kids can be overwhelming. 00:37:47.220 --> 00:37:54.030 Schedule things out, learn to manage your time, okay? So be like Ruth. But Ruth chapter two, verse three, the Bible says, "And she went and came and gleaned 00:38:20.850 --> 00:38:27.590 in the field after the reapers, and her hab was to lie on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, 00:38:27.590 --> 00:38:35.650 who was of the kindred of Elimelech." So notice the wording here. The Bible says, "her hab was to," 00:38:35.650 --> 00:38:43.160 okay? The word "hab" means "happened." It means to "before," "event," "change." Basically, 00:38:43.160 --> 00:38:49.420 the word "hab" means "chance." So the Bible is saying that Ruth, by chance, came to the field 00:38:49.420 --> 00:38:55.680 which belonged to Boaz. She just happened to end up at Boaz's field, okay? Don't miss the 00:38:55.680 --> 00:39:04.100 wording here. Her "hab," she by chance, you know, came to Boaz's field. By the way, her job was not 00:39:04.100 --> 00:39:11.860 to light the field on fire, okay? To light on means to come upon or to arrive at. That just a, you know, 00:39:11.860 --> 00:39:16.710 old expression, right? It's not lighting field on fire like Joab, you know, people in the book 00:39:16.710 --> 00:39:23.480 of Judges, okay? And I like the wording in this verse because the Bible says she, by chance, 00:39:23.480 --> 00:39:31.070 came to the field. To me, that's providential because from a human perspective, this is a 00:39:31.070 --> 00:39:38.120 coincidence, right? But from God's perspective, this is providence because it looks random. 00:39:38.120 --> 00:39:45.480 And the text makes it seem to be a, seem to be random, but it wasn't really random. And Ruth may 00:39:45.480 --> 00:39:52.910 have thought that it was chance, but God was, you know, planning her future, right? And, you know, 00:39:52.910 --> 00:39:59.630 I've heard this quote spoken by several preachers that there are no accidents in the Christian life. 00:39:59.630 --> 00:40:06.430 There are no accidents in the Christian life. The Bible says in Proverbs 16 verse 9, "A man's heart 00:40:06.430 --> 00:40:13.810 divides his way. See, man plans, but the Lord directeth his steps." See, what looks like 00:40:13.810 --> 00:40:20.050 chance to us is God's plan behind the scenes. Think about this, you know, you think you just 00:40:20.050 --> 00:40:26.880 took a job. You applied to multiple places and just one random employer called you back and you end 00:40:26.880 --> 00:40:33.960 up working with someone who later invites you to church and just get you saved, right? You know, 00:40:33.960 --> 00:40:40.030 all these events may seem to be chance, but it's really, you know, God directing the steps. And you 00:40:40.030 --> 00:40:47.170 may just, you know, think that you just bought a house due to price or due to price or location, 00:40:47.170 --> 00:40:55.280 and one deal falls through and another deal, you know, opens up last minute and then you move in 00:40:55.280 --> 00:40:59.500 and then you meet a neighbor and you share the gospel with her and she gets saved, right?
